  1. I was given a heads-up about the purple indicators before the show so they really stand out whenever they're used (which is why I was wary when Trish had a purple bag). I don't buy Luke's reasoning for not believing in mind control. Yeah, his skin is tangible but that doesn't explain why it's indestructible. Can he explain the science experiment that caused his ability? Even if he could, why can't another experiment exist to cause telepathy?
  2. Heh. Same here. While it's obvious to viewers that the cop was sent as an assassin, I didn't buy a lone patrol cop doing detective work and fetching warrants. I also wondered why Jessica didn't try to get the drugs when she was with that former doctor before he fled. I'm not into Luke yet. The actor is too one-note for me. I've always liked Rachael Taylor; she's always convincing as an American. Glad to see her in something high profile.
  3. It's still a bit worrying. The nosebleed could be from a mind control situation. I'm particularly concerned after seeing Trish carrying that purple bag (like Hope's backback) and hearing Jessica's comment about Trish needing to control things. I don't think those are throwaway elements.
  4. Not a huge Ritter fan but she's doing a nice job. I already like the show a lot more than Daredevil. (Yay for no superhero costumes!) Procedurals put me to sleep so I'm glad the missing girl case ties in to her backstory.
  5. I remember renting "King of the Gypsies" as a kid. It's an over-the-top melodrama from the 70s (Eric Roberts causes drama when he dates a "gadji" and tries to save his baby sister Brooke Shields from being married off to some fat kid). It now seems like a documentary after seeing the Romani in Arranged. Nina sounds just like Susan Sarandon in that movie ("dem, deez, doze peoples").
  6. Scripted or not, Josh gets more and more unlikable with each episode. He lacks a sensitivity chip and always need to be right, which are horrible traits for a doctor. (Would he ever admit to giving someone the wrong diagnosis?) It seems like he was the most popular guy in high school and it went to his head. So now he's having an identity crisis because he's getting fat, losing his hair, and his wife has a life. And don't get me started on him using sex as a weapon. Dude is clueless. I feel for Meghan.
  7. Nora leaving (and without Jill) seemed so out of character that it pulled me out of the show. Theroux is awesome. He and Nora are the only reason I got through the draggy season one. If he stays dead my interest in the show will drop dramatically. (First Glen on TWD and now this.) If he only comes back as a Patti-like spirit to haunt Nora, that'll suck too. When Laurie was explaining the psychotic break, it bugged me that Kevin didn't mention Michael who knew Kevin was talking to a woman dressed in white. If Michael learned this fact through Virgil (after Kevin's first visit), he wouldn't need to introduce Virgil and give directions to his house. Laurie's info dump of exposition about the scam was just lazy writing. Did they gain more followers? Did the scam threaten the GRs? What was the last straw to make Tommy bail? Did Laurie come clean with the followers? The promo for next week only seems to show Tommy after he bailed.
  8. My guess is that the dad created the whole mess. His abuse caused the kids' emotional dysfunction that led to the baby.
  9. WTF was that? I was pretty much enjoying this off-book season but that ending just made no sense to me. I hope it's not the beginning of Lindelof losing his way again.
  10. I think it was the baby's hospital bracelet.
  11. Yup, that pretty much covers it. Though I'm calling bullshit on how that high ponytail cut resulted in a trendy lob (a low, nape-level ponytail cut would do the trick).
  12. Mame was def. playing up her reaction to the mom surprise and trying to force a "big moment" for the cameras. She's not a hostage being released to her family after years of captivity, and I'm sure they communicated regularly in the last few years. She can reconnect with her mom after the taping of the show; the situation didn't need to be hashed out and instantly rectified for the episode. Mame using a loved one to create an on-camera moment for the win was a huge turnoff. She seems to be pretending to have human qualities. It's a bit weird.
  13. Seriously. I got whiplash on that one. Mame is gorgeous and dynamic but her photos lack warmth and emotion. I love Nyle to pieces inside and out (I can stare at him all day long) but he needs more experience so he can develop some range. Mikey also lacks dimension and would be lost without that hair. Lacey's go-to move and haircut make her seem like a one-trick pony but she's got ideas (when they're not edited out to create drama) and could break out big when she's styled outside of Tyraland. I can't remember another season where I thought the top four all deserve careers, but I can see them all making good eventually.
  14. I've never seen White Fang, but Brian's demanor changed when Claire said that she needed him to see the performance so her new life in NYC can feel real. He didn't want her to be emotionally independent, so he did a 180 and decided to bail so Claire would remain stuck in their dysfunction, hence he's a monster. Lashing out about their baby, etc. was her monsterous way of striking back. I kept noticing a slight wobble whenever Ross had to balance on one leg, like in the equivalent of yoga eagle or tree poses (I don't know ballet terms). He was the only one so it stood out. The cinematography was strong throughout the series. It was one of the reasons I kept watching.
  15. ITA. The characters were definitely uneven, so I was less invested with each episode. When the sexually adventurous Mia freaked out with that guy in the bathroom stall after her night(mare) with Brian, I thought, "Wait, isn't that Claire's issue?" A tightly scripted show would avoid that overlap.
  16. It's lovely but not that impressive. I thought it would be more outside the box after all the hype about the choreographer. Lots of full frontal on TV lately. Paul is a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen. I'm still marveling on Ben Daniels' performance. He's so reserved on House of Cards; it's like night and day.
  17. I was wondering about this too. It can't be just because he loves ballet. And since Daphne knows a lot about Sergei, why wouldn't she think twice about getting in so deep? Odd. And the sex slaves on the yacht! That was intense. The girls were so young, wobbly and scared. Can't Claire give the cops an anonymous tip? It may not shut Sergei down but it's a start.
  18. I had a feeling that Claire was willingly sleeping with Brian when she wouldn't hang up while he was having phone sex in the pilot ep. While I buy the incest backstory and Claire anguish/guilt/sexual issues, the character arcs aren't strongly developed. Brian comes off as two different people instead of as a complex/layered character (I also blame the one-note actor). The vagueness of Claire's emotional needs can make it harder for viewers to sympathize but I get the idea: the abused siblings needed each other as emotional anchors which led to sex as a source of comfort. That said, the premise is a yawn. I'm more interested in seeing how Claire navigates friendships (did she have any friends in Pittsburgh?).
  19. This ep saved the series for me. The first two eps didn't make me laugh so I almost bailed (his parents clearly aren't actors). I love Aziz's standup so it's cool to see how the eps elaborate on each bit.
  20. I don’t think so. I believe it was only after her waking up (whether real or only imagined) that Matt started running the camera all night. I didn't think that he taped the rape. I meant that he was reminded of it when he saw himself in bed with Mary (e.g. a mirror would have the same effect). That's what I thought too.
  21. I am all over this if the entire series is as dark and yummy as the pilot. It's predictible and over the top (think Flashdance) but also well acted, directed, choreographed and gorgeously shot. And I love that the dancers are real dancers.
  22. Is it me or is this season less funny than the first? It's also much more stylized. I'm s-l-o-w-l-y getting invested but thought I would care more about the characters by now. Nick Offerman was great. More of him, please. Yeah, that was too instantaneous for me. He's super creepy too. Where is his family? That rabbit flashback didn't tell us much.
  23. It's almost as annoying as "The Affair" theme song, which I skip past every time. Same here. A Matt standalone ep made me sigh heavily after the slow-dragging standalone Morgan ep on TWD. I'm only watching for Kevin, Nora and John's storylines at this point. Still waiting on Meg's situation. I'm thinking that he raped her. At first I didn't understand why he closed the laptop cam when he was upset, but now I think that he felt guilty about the rape when saw the image of himself with his catatonic wife in bed.
  24. Not a Lennie fan, so I wasn't excited to spend 90 minutes watching him. I do like Lynch but this ep was too predictable. I kept wondering why he didn't commit suicide. Did the writers ignore that obvious question or are we supposed to know why Morgan can't kill himself?
