  1. Hey gang! Trying to listen but the audio won't play. Is there some issue? First day back in the office after Christmas break and I need to hear the gals salt Dylan as he deserves!
  2. I am so happy that Dave liked Teen Titans Go! My 6 year old loves it and it is one of my favourite things to watch with him, along with Bob's Burgers.
  3. The fact that Tara references Bart the Bear in this episode gives me so much joy. My husband and I have a running joke about him and the fact that casting directors typecast him into bear only roles. "He could have been a goldfish, he could have been Jean Valjean, but he's always a bear!"
  4. Sarah, I am right there with you with Witches of East End. Freddie Prinze Jr. was a shirtless butterfly scientist! The world needed more of this show!
  5. With regard to Game Time answer Neil Hope a.k.a. Wheels on Degrassi . . . he is not so much working at Tim Hortons . . . http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/2012/02/17/degrassi_star_neil_hope_aka_wheels_died_a_lonely_death_unnoticed.html
  6. Exactly! I know people who have been in that situation with "whoops!" vasectomy babies. Also, I do agree that it was wrong for Sookie to force Jackson off to have a medical procedure without talking to him about it beforehand. If their relationship was supposed to be one of the healthier ones on the show, why couldn't we have seen them have a conversation about family planning?
  7. Oh! And Tara, the nonvasectomy plot was also an issue in the last season of Gilmore Girls where Jackson didn't get one after Davey and Martha were born and then Sookie got pregnant again. Again, this was presented in an "Oh Jackson!" sort of way and everyone just kind of let it go and Sookie resigned herself to being a mother again against her will which is such insane bullshit, it still makes me angry to think about. Also, please note that I say this as someone who birthed a tiny human. I love my kid but I hated being pregnant and if my husband did that to me, I would be absolutely furious/leave his body in a swamp.
  8. Very minor correction - John Cusack's character in Better Off Dead is Lane, not Lloyd. Lloyd is from Say Anything. The only reason I make this correction is that both of these were made during the period that I still loved John Cusack as he was at his most Cusackiest/was still making decent movies*. Nowadays, the Cus is like someone's ponchy dad, ruining ladyboners everywhere with his poor filmography and weird old man twitter account. Dear God, that man and his spelling! Also, if you're talking about a slogan for Spike, it should be "The Face-Punching/Star Wars Channel!" Anyway, keep up the good work, TV Cops! I appreciate you keeping our streets safe! *This period extends to High Fidelity in 2000. Nothing after that was any good (and no, Serendipity, while sometimes a rainy Sunday afternoon time sink, is not an exception).
  9. Tara - I love John Mulaney too but I am so scared. I saw a trailer a while back for it which feature a dog on a skateboard wearing a rasta hat and it looked like this was one of the big jokes of the episode*. I seriously cringed all the way through the 2.5 minutes. So awkward. *It looks like the production team cut new trailers that don't feature the dog anymore, but YIKES!
  10. I have a 19 month old little boy and I have to say Batman: The Brave and the Bold is kind of fantastic. It is so aware of how ridiculous its history is and how lame some of its villains are and openly makes fun of itself. For example - Kiteman's origins: Also, the Batman in this version is made of snark which I enjoy and the supporting characters are pretty funny. John Dimaggio (the voice of Bender) does the voice of Aquaman and his pomposity is hysterical. The episode where he goes on vacation with his family across America to see things like The World Biggest Ball of Yarn and is bored out of his mind is kind of amazing.
  11. I just finished reading Sex Criminals and am hoping to meet Chip Zdarksy at TCAF tomorrow! I will report back if/when I do!
  12. I'm jumping in! The Dragonfly! I want to ride Cletus the horse! WYR do Europe witn Emily or Lorelai?
  13. I agree that this maybe wasn't the best episode of Clone High, but I still say the worst episode of Clone High is better than a lot of show's best episodes (I'm looking at you, Two and a Half Men and According To Jim!) Plus, I will admit that I love the reference to the sunny beaches of Canada and the Buddy Holly plane joke pretty much always makes me laugh. (As a sidenote, my husband works with the guy who directed Clone High and he (the director) said working on that show was an absolute nightmare. So sad to hear!)
  14. Whoops! Fair enough! I nominate Fables then. I have been playing "The Wolf Among Us" and it is making me want to re-read the books.
  15. I finally have brain power! Of the things already suggested: Fray (Just bought this and haven't dug into it yet!) Y: The Last Man Birds of Prey Runaways Other things that I like that could be good: Fables Chew The Unwritten I am pretty flexible about title so I am interested in seeing what wins!
  16. Thanks for the tip-off Willowy! I have never read Fray so I will give it a go! (Also, it turns out I had a credit on my Amazon account so it only cost $0.46 - awesome!)
  17. I am in for this! I am slightly brain dead right now so I will return to this thread later with suggestions. :)
  18. This. Yes. That movie was overall forgettable, but that scene was great. Apparently, Carano was supposed to miss him when she threw the vase at him, but she got so into it, she smashed it against his head. Awesome.
  19. Yay! They are giving Cynthia something to do! I have a soft spot for her because she looks eerily like my mother as a young woman.
  20. This is my cat Bettie (we call her Beebs or Beebee for short). I got her a few months after my now-husband and I started dating - she will be 10 this year! Another picture of her with my son Savi a few hours after he was born and we brought him home from the hospital. They are great pals now (he has been taught to be very gentle with her as she still has claws), but in the beginning, she did not like this screamy pink intruder. Suspicious cat is suspicious!
  21. Oh man, Dave! I freaking LOVED Dave Rygalski! When I did my last rewatch, the Dave season was my favourite. By far, the best GG boyfriend! He ate horrible sandwiches and played Christian music and read the bible in one whole night! The fact that he didn't just Google that quote blew my mind but maybe the internet didn't exist in Stars Hollow at that time as Kirk/Mick messed up the wiring? I don't know. Anyway, I am still sad about this too (although real life Lane Helen Pai DID end up with her Dave so at least The OC didn't completely screw up the love story. ;) )
  22. If you could live in a world as featured in a movie, what movie's world would you like to live in? Movies I would love to live in: 1) The Brothers Bloom - I like the kind of wacky caper factor of everything. 2) The Royal Tenanbaums/Moonrise Kingdom/Wes Anderson anything - The colours and the style and the fact that everything about his movies feels so lived in is something I really like. 3) Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - I live in Toronto so I sort of do this anyway, but the heightened video game reality is awesome. 4) High Fidelity - I would enjoy hanging out and talking about pop culture all day. And go!
  23. I really liked this series over all (save for the ending - I always feel a little disappointed in BKV endings for some reason). I actually made my new husband stop on the way to our honeymoon in Muskoka at the comic store so I could get the last Y: The Last Man trade which had just come out. The talk of the movie adaptation of this title always bummed me out. I don't understand why everything has to be a movie and can't be a minseries or a short run television series like True Detective. I feel like being such a slave to the movie format makes them cut too much stuff out and abbreviate plotlines that should have been given room to breathe. This is one of the things that bummed me out about the World War Z adaptation which is a book I LOVED. If they had made that thing into a Werner Herzogian documentary style series with each episode focusing on a different country or group of survivors that would have been amazing. But instead it was a vehicle for Brad Pitt and wasn't halfway as effective. Also, Shia LeBoeuf is a dick smack and needs to take up less space in the universe. I enjoy Genius' idea of Chris Lowell. I think he could be good.
  24. I wouldn't say it is a con in the traditional sense but the Toronto Comic Arts Festival or TCAF is pretty great. For one, it is free to attend and they actually get decent names to come - I have met Bryan Lee O'Malley and Daniel Clowes this way and hope to meet Ed Brubaker this year! Mother's Day weekend at the Reference Library. Do it, Canadians!
  25. Just watched the finale. There were parts I liked but ultimately, I felt like the creators got so caught up in their "this is the plan!" Plan that they kind of forsook any of the things that they had established/made work in the later seasons in favour of it. It smacked of a child using a hammer to smash awkward puzzle pieces together to make the picture they want ("this looks right, right?"). The longer the seasons went on, the more obvious it was that Robin and Ted shouldn't be together but they forced it and ended up with a fan service ending. IMHO, the show should have ended one of two ways. 1) Ted concludes the story about the mother (who should have had WAY more screen time this season!) with the idea that sometimes, the road to love is rocky and plans don't always go the way we hope, but love is an adventure and something to be grateful for, no matter how we get there and no matter how it ends. 2) Robin goes after Ted. Honestly, after all his romantic gestures, I feel like it might have gone over better for me if she did the chasing this time. Even a subtle gesture like have it be his birthday and have her give him a framed map to Argentina or something (a place that they had talked about going to back in the day) with a note that reads "I'm game if/when you are" and then maybe they stand looking awkwardly at it for a minute before he clumsily takes her hand or something? I don't know but something to change their dynamic a bit. I used to love this show but I feel like it will be a while before I revisit it.
