  1. Seeing the dress now, I can see how the alterations could have been made, but it probably took at least two dresses. You could have easily cut the skirt for the flounce and that's why the older girls dresses were taken in and not flared. (Which would give the fabric for the small capped sleeve). The first flounce cut would go to Johanna's dress which stayed flared and some of the top of the dress worked for her sleeve. It wouldn't take much fabric for the capped sleeve. The fabric looks like the stretchy kind of lace you see on t-shirts type tops. It's really a cheap fabric and doesn't really hold it's shape for longer styles. I don't think it's easy to sew on a regular sewing machine either (You can, but since it's a lightweight and lacy it's not easy). It's a stretch knit so it would have been better to use a serger. But I don't think the Duggar girls have had that much practice in using that kind of fabric. Those dresses should also have steamed or pressed because something looks off about the way they hang.
  2. Before my sister married her husband, they had been together for awhile when his father died. She was listed as a "Special Friend." It was nice she was listed, but you'd think that titles would catch up to modern times. LOL!
  3. It depends on where the stores are located. In DC, since there are a lot of bases, and people move around a lot, I've found some great bargains from France, Germany, Japan and Korea. Some with the store tags still on them. Stores near the wealthier sections are also great. Anna and the girls probably have a great time shopping in thrift stores in the area. My sister found a pair of Heidi Daus earrings for five dollars. Not that the Duggars would buy anything like those, but still great bargains. You just need to know where to go. Hopefully Anna does, but maybe she's buying new?
  4. You have to read the whole article to see how each charity lines up with the original email. Goodwill does do good and no reason to feel guilty shopping there and if the Duggars shop there, at least their money is doing something good.
  5. That's why I think some of the clothes she wears at openings, award shows, etc. aren't hers. They're on loan. Hopefully if they were hers she would get a seamstress and do the clothes right. With all the money she supposed to have, she can't hire anyone that would know how to hem cuffed pants? Or how to fit an out fit so she can still have her small waist and not stretch the seams to breaking point around her ass? Proof money doesn't buy class. It's true, can't fix stupid.
  6. Yes, in the book, it was common for high born women, wedded or not, to have lovers and to be patrons to them. Unwedded had to be more discrete because they still wished for a good marriage (good meaning one to a rich high born husband). Apparently in those days, soldiers had to outfit themselves with arms, horses, etc. Aramis had Madame de Chevreuse, Porthos had his rich (albeit lower ranking) mistress (and at that time not a widow), d'Artagnan had Constance (although the money came indirectly from the Cardinal not Constance.). Athos had no mistress and in one part of the book while the rest were getting their equipment , Athos did nothing and said if the equipment didn't come, he'd start a fight with a Cardinal guard and commit suicide that way.
  7. Depends on what part of the Mid-Atlantic region and what time. There used to be a time when there was themed showers for the bride, back when she truly was setting up house for the first time. Kitchen showers, usually the centerpiece was a mop dressed in kitchen items such as a apron, rubber gloves etc., household where the bride may have been lucky enough to get an upright vacuum (Or an ironing board) dressed in yes, an apron and other items needed for the house, which you usually forget to get until you move in. There were some personal items also, but mostly the showers were for setting up house as the bride should have been getting the personal things as she was preparing her trousseau. Then when women began moving out earlier, with or without partners, room mates, etc. the more personal items came in for showers. Now it's anything goes. and apparently for Wedding gifts also. But, I'm wondering if some of the gift cards that are on Jessa's list are because they know they are going to get gifts from fans and have the gift cards so fans can buy something and easily mail it to them without breaking the fan's budgets. I'm sure they've gotten things for birthdays, etc. so they know they have some people out there who want to be a part of it no matter what.
  8. My sister starting showing early and everyone on base in Japan were taking bets she was having twins or more. It was only one very big boy. She also had really bad morning sickness and was very sensitive to smells. Her husband would put Clearasil on at night and she had to leave to throw up. She was also very petite like Jill, so as everyone said every pregnancy is different. A coworker at work was also very petite and didn't show until the eighth month. That's when she started to wear maternity clothes. When we asked when the baby was due, she answered, "next month!" We were floored. We joked she was carrying it in her handbag for the previous months. I think the twin quote isn't anything to get excited about. It's just like saying, "Or one of each at once!"
  9. Not only is the dress not right for her body, Kim has no idea how to pose artlessly for the camera. She has no poise in the picture shown; she's just standing there looking very awkward. The GQ cover photo didn't look like her. Hated her blonde hair.
  10. Yes, she's forgotten by her family enough, don't forget her!
  11. Interesting ep. Loved the scene with Marie and Richelieu because in real life he gained favor in the French court through Marie. He was even banished with her at one time, but Louis and Marie reconciled and Richelieu was back in favor. He then won the King's support. Marie and other nobles were jealous of his power and tried to get rid of him, but Richelieu won. The scene could have gone so much further with this back story. I wonder if they are going to bring in Louis' other (real) brother Gaston d'Orléans. He really brought about a revolt which was quashed. Don't mind the baby going to Spain, it was the only way. They had to keep Louis on the throne in the show and couldn't kill the kid... I'm still liking the four eye-candy. My favorite changes with the scene...
  12. I'm wondering if Mary on the cross is actually a cult; the same as Santa Muerte. It's worshipped by some, while not sanctioned by the Catholic Church. If you were not knowledgeable about the Catholic church and went to Mexico and saw Santa Muerte all around, you would probably think it's not uncommon for all Catholics. Ben is just a kid, with all the enthusiasm of youth, is spouting what he has heard all his life and now, people are listening. He hasn't had any life incidents that make him question or even try to learn more. It's a shame that he has no intellectual curiosity about other beliefs or why someone may want to believe differently. I thought if you understand why someone believes the way they do, it may give you a leg up if you were trying to convert them to your way of thinking...
  13. @LittleIggy I wonder if BBC has some sort of sideline or has heavily invested in leather somehow or another. Most of their action shows has an immense amount of leather! Beautifully done, I have to admit, but why? and it isn't just recently, a lot of their shows in the past had at least one person head to toe in leather.
  14. An American here, do we get any of the Anne and Duke of Buckingham? It's in the book, or are they going to substitute Aramis with the Duke's role?
  15. Actually, de Bergerac was in the King's Guards. (a scene which is usually cut from the play is a brief cameo of d'Artagnan congratulating Cyrano after the famous sword fight in the first act.) It wasn't addressed in the book, but only because no one thought it needed to be. They are part of the King's special guard, but not any religious or special forces as we see them. As with any soldier, marrying/adultery/courting, etc is up to their own conscience. I've read the books, including the four volume Vicomte de Braggelone Or Ten Years Later and loved them. Raoul, seen as Athos' ward in the sequel Twenty Years After is revealed to be Athos' son in Ten Years later. (A one night stand between Madame Chevreuse (in the books, a one time mistress of Aramis.) She thought he was a priest and thought it would be fun to seduce him and have the story to tell when she got older.) I haven't really seen any new adaptions after the 1973. I really like that one, which followed the book as close as any I've seen and I like Gene Kelly's adaption, because well, Gene Kelly and it's the first adaption I saw. I usually hate the newer ones because they not only don't follow the book, I can't even recognize the characters. I didn't think I was going to like this version, but even if they don't follow the books, the do have the essence of the characters, so I guess I'm hooked. . Doesn't bother me too much, in the book he's not really that big and besides, Tom Burke is cute. What does bother me is Milady is supposed to be blonde! Nice that they're going against type and putting any pretty woman with blonde hair in characters, but in the book that was one of her glorious features was she was so blonde. I wonder why they also took out the her branding?
  16. Early this morning was the "Friendship" duet with Lucy and Ethel. While not their musical best, it's one of my favorites. The actions and facial expressions are priceless.
