The relevance is someone asked why there are mor penalties this year and I was pointing out the main rules changes that had been made which could result in the increased penalties.
-
It was a bit more than that. They changed the places where those players with an eligibile number (1-49 and 80-89) could line up along the line of srcimmage if they are considered inelligable receivers. They can't line up outside the tackle box. And I have seen more illegal formation calls on offenses this year. I don't know thats the reason but its the only change to the formation rules for offense. Also defenses can't stack 6 players on one side of the ball during a kick. I saw this called as well. 4th missed kick for the win in a week. But Drew Brees save the game for the kicker this time
-
They specifically changed the rules based on the formation the Pats were using in the playoffs. You can not like it if you'd like, but thats a simple fact.
-
There are a lot of illegal formation flags. They tweaked the rules based on NEs (in this case) legal exploitation of the rules last year and I think its creating more of these calls.
-
Seems the kickers are having a much harder time this year than previously and not just because of the extra length on etxra points.

S07.E02: The Day Alex Left for College

I would assume Cam probably was making a joke originally when he brought up "French toast" to Mitch, because they are french, and Mitch took it literally. Just a misunderstanding. -
I was shocked by the poor play calls by both coaches. Everyone focuses on Tomlin, but I have no idea why Harbaugh tried that fake FG and didn't just take the 3 points. Heinz field though is probably the hardest stadium in the NFL for kickers. Not sure why, but anything over 45 yards becomes pretty iffy. You don't see many 50+ yard FGs like it seems is routine in other stadiums. I think the longest ever there is like 52 yards. And both teams missed on 4th downs. Ravens had 2nd and 1 and run three times and can't gain a yard. That was just a poor play call in my opinion by the Steelers if you are going for it on 4th down. Its a great play call if you have Big Ben. That is not a throw Vick could ever make routinely. Do a fake handoff and role him out. quick slant to WR or use Miller on a quick throw. Something. Mostly this game pointed out big problems for Pitt without Roethlisberger and for the Ravens in general, unable to pick up critical 4th and short plays.

S02.E01: Is There Anybody Out There?

Good to have the show back even if it did end up being somewhat of a downer. Wondering while Phil's brother apparentley looked everywhere BUT the USA for life? Why save that for last? I didn't see all of last season, it may have been explained. The White House sex scene was funny Will be curious to see what happened to the others and why/how the house burned -
Already seeing serious overreaction to the Pats start. Mention of them going 16-0, being better than in 2007, just pencil them in for the AFC title game, etc. Just like last year when they strarted slow and everyone overreacted, so this year. Its crazy to talk about a team going undefeated after 3 games. Especially when two of those games were over traditionally bad teams, even if Buffalo is better this year. Pitt and Dallas found out quick how things can change.

Colts looked horrible even in a win. Pep Hamitlon is clueless how to run this offense or how to combat a blitzing team with a bad a OL. They play better when behind and desparate. The pass D was bad as well but at least there is an excuse for that, have many injuries in the secondary. Yes bengals will never get another chance like this. They should cruise to the division title if Ben is out long (guessing he will be ) and should have a chance for a top seed in the AFC. AFC just looks incredibly weak. The team that looks best so far is Arizona. Crushing San Fran. Good on offense and defense.

The Dunphys: Phil, Clare, Alex, Haley, and Luke

I heard that interview as well with Ty. He comes across as very down to earth and likeable. -
I don't think the fat suit was funny at all, just creepy and weird. And the more I think about this, Andy kind of brought this on himself. He is not married, he is engaged, and he just got engaged shortly before he overheard how Haley felt. Its a difficult but fixable or amendable situation at that point. He could have a conversation with his girlfriend that he is having second thoughts, he isnt ready for this comittment. ANd have a conversation with Haley about how she feels. MANY people end engagements. The longer it goes on, the harder it becomes. In fact I stand up comedy does a bit about exactly this situation, basically saying the longer an engagement goes on, the harder it is to end and the bigger the consequences. He found out right after the engagement. He's an adult. Plus I would think his fiance should be able to figure out something is up seeing him gain a ton of weight after they are engaged.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
DrSpaceman73 replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
thats interesting.....I had honestly never noticed or thought about this before. Luckily my 13 year old daughter does not talk like this and while I know who they are, I have zero interest in the Kardashians. I would rather rip out my own eyes with a dull knife than watch any show involving them or about them. -
S09.E01: The Matrimony Momentum

Penny seemed completely "meh" about the entire wedding. And the whole relationship, despite what she says. Always has been that way from what I've seen. As for Leonard sleeping with a total stranger and some of the other things he has done, those aren't GOOD decisions, but they are decisions that are consistent with a 20 or 30 something year old single male. Especially in a Chuck Lorre comedy. We've seen the same things out of Raj and Howard at times. Sheldon is the only one who truly deviates from typical young single male sexual behavior. -
Interestingly, I forget who it was, but someone on the sports radio circuit was saying players like Thursday games because there is not as much gameplanning, its more just go out there and play. My suspicion as well though is the quality is low from lack of preparation. We saw this last year for several weeks in a row at the start of the season.

Ty was on Mike and Mike on ESPN a few weeks ago making weekly NFL picks, went 3-0. Seems like a nice guy in interviews. He worked as a struggling actor for about 15 or 20 years before getting this role, so you can tell he appreciates all of it
-
But Kevin did win a title.....sort of, a few seasons ago, depending on if it counted. The EBDB and "Forever unclean!!:" saved this episode for me. I don't know why I find that phrase so funny, but especially when Ruxin says it, it cracks me up. (Like Dee's "God Damn it!" on Its ALways sunny)

Odell is fun to watch. Don't have to be a fan of the Giants to love him. Great talent. Giants will be right back in the thick of the NFC east race, it seems. Though 'race' may be a stretch of the term

S09.E01: The Matrimony Momentum
DrSpaceman73 replied to photo fox's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
I have never found Penny and Leonard as a believable couple. And it goes beyond just their different personalities. I just don't think they have any chemistry together Which is sad because I know they once dated in real life, so......what sense does that make? Episode was pretty weak I agree with whoever said Leonard really had no reason to say anything about kissing the girl. Especially then. And then he doesn't know when to stop or how to handle it afterwards and continues in his annoying way to say more that just makes it worse and worse -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
DrSpaceman73 replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I didn't realize that was Christy Brinkley in the commercial Probably because of the fact that she is now 61 years old and WAY too old to be a mom, which just makes the commercial even more creepy since, as pointed out already, she is truly old enough to be her "husband's" mom. (He is late 30s) Still just bad writing and seems like they leaned too heavily on creepy ironic stunt casting irony with little creativity in the writing department or the acting department from Christie Brinkley. I would have had kept Christie Brinkly but still have her in the red convertable. You use Beverly DeAngelo as the grandma in the back seat, the son, now older, is driving. As Christie dives by Beverly comments something like "some people never grow up. Every damn year". Or -
Not overly impressed with the opener The kids school storyline was not that funny They have already done this story with Cam and mitch, the exact same story. Still don't care much for Haley and Andy, don't really care if they end up together. And insulting or not, I found that fat suit on Andy just distrubing and weird looking more than anything. Not funny, just creepy. I almost couldn't watch. I don't care for Alex and Sanjay either. They don't seem to have any chemistry together, seem more like brother/sister. it had its moments, but nothing special I did like seeing Justin Kirk again. I wish he would become a regular and Mitch would work for him just so he could be on the show more

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
DrSpaceman73 replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I hate the commercial where they recreate the scene from National Lampoons Vacation with the hot girl in the convertible driving by the guy in the minivan or SUV, then his attractive blonde sees it and points out how that the young blond is cliche. First of all the wife is overacting horribly when she says her line. Second while I understand the intended irony, he is looking at a yougner hot blonde when he has a hot blonde wife, somehow the the whole thing falls flat. Its like an unfinished joke or seems like there should be more. -
I didn't think it was possible but the Colts offense lost them this game I can't even count the number of ways they are managing to screw up on both sides of the ball. AT this rate Pagano will not last until the end of Septermber. Just pathetic in every way. Unprepared, poor game plan. Pep Hamilton has absolutely no idea how to combat a pass rush. They don't use the hurry up offense like they should to slow the rush. Luck makes bad decisions and bad throws. They aren't using Andre Johsnon at all despite signing him this offseason. End of the half, Jets about to try a 48 yard FG, if they miss Colts could get the ball with 30 seconds left if they call a time out. Still a chance to score, they just needed 30 yard to be in FG range. Nope, let the clock run down. Just stupid. No pass rush. Didn't help that Vontae Davis was injured, concussion, hope he is back soon. And surprisingly the one GOOD thing about the team has actually been the run D by the front 3 or 4. I know it didn't look like it by the stats last week, but the run D is actually stopping the runners up front on almost every play. And despite all that, now they go against the pathetic AFC south three straight games and I won't be surprised if they win all 3. They are just lucky they are in a bad division. Pagano in my opinion though can't be fired soon enough. If he is back next year I will be shocked. I won't be surprised if he is fired before the end of the year if this continues.

The Annual Primetime Emmys - General Discussion
DrSpaceman73 replied to susannot's topic in The Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys)
I doubt it has ever happened but I don't know for sure. The categorization kind of bugs me too. Why was she a "guest actress" one year and a "supporting actress" a different year? Same thing with Margo Martindale on The Americans this year. why is she now a "guest actress". She has a regular role on the show. I realize the roles changes and the parts change in terms of how much they may be on the show year to year, but I don't consider either Martindale this year or Uzo Aduba in prior years a guest actress. I think both are and always have been supporting actresses on the shows. Has nothing to do with their work on the shows in questions. They both performed magnificentally. But there are just so many shows on now and many, many actresses and actors that not only go unrecognized in terms of wins but often just in terms of nominations. Its bad enough that the nominations often seem to be based on past success and popularity. Add on top of that the academy is pretty nondescript many times with what constitutes being in which category and it causes I think problems with the nomination and voting process.
