The Chiefs made us forget all about the Giants stupid ending. Eli should thank them Just....pitiful. Wow. I don't like or dislike the Chiefs. If anything I want them in the playoffs vs. the Colts because the Colts have a 20 year streak of never losing to them in the playoffs, beat them 4 or 5 times. that was just pathetic though. Not just the end of the game, end of the half, you think they will be up by 7 at least, Smith throws that awful pick and lets Denver tie it End of the game, HOW do you let that happen? I feel sorry for their fans. They consistently find a way to lose games, not just this one but over many years. They have good games and can never capitalize on them. As for Manning, it is true he does not have the arm he used to, but he made the throws needed when it counted. And the problem with the team is not Manning. That OL is AWFUL. Doesn't matter who you have back there, with no time they can't make plays. And the run game is nonexistent. ANd its not just the line. The play calling is bad. Just kick the FG in the first half, you don't need to go for it on 4th down there early in what will obviously be a close game, take the point. You have not once but TWICE to think about it, still do it. Hillman is a far superior runner to Anderson. In the next few weeks i expect Hillman will be getting most of the carries. Its not even close, Hillman is in and the run game is much better. He is the one that did the damage last week on the long 4th quarter drive. And while Manning does not have the arm strength, Sanders dropped an easy long pass in the first half and the offense looked much better when they sped up the game and let Manning run things from the line out of the shotgun. That was not their plan this year, but the offense has been pathetic with him taking snaps behind center and trying to do the ball control/run based game. They just don't have the team to do it, and that is not on Manning. As bad as his arm strengh is, he is STILL the better option for that offense over the run oriented game they had planned to use. on the other hand Denver is also stupid, way too many stupid defensive penalties for late hits and crap. The D is good but has to play smart.

I don't think TO will get in anytime soon. The HOF is weird with WRs, there is a backlog it seems and they make them wait to get in. Marvin Harrison has been eligible a few years and is not in, and I don't think it has anything to do with his post playing troubles and rumors. Cris Carter got in before Marvin Harrison, I don't think anyone would argue Carter was the better player. he just had been waiting several years to get in Art Monk waited a long time. Marvin should get in before TO. Comparable career numbers and Harrison has a title, TO does not, and at least during his playing time Marvin Harrison was a great teammate, never caused locker room trouble My favorite Marvin Harrison-Manning memory is when they broke the record for TDs by a WR-QB duo, afterwards they each kept trying to give the other person the TD ball to kept. It wasn't an act, they each wanted the other to have it. Tim Brown as well waited a long time to make it

Yes it was. Not a single red zone play for either team until the last two minutes of the game. Very boring game. It was like I think it was the LSU-Alabama game where it was like 6-3, except each team had an INT returned for a TD Either both offenses are very bad or both Ds are very good. Except Baltimore now lost suggs for the year ANd Ronnie Hillman looked much better than CJ anderson running the ball. You could say Manning didn't look good and doesn't have much arm strength, but then what was Flacco's excuse?

Rams finish off the game. Big win. I like Fisher as a coach. teams always play tough. He has had the unfortuneate situation of playing against Manning for years in his division and now against Seattle in his new gig. He is the only coach since 2002 to beat Manning for a division title in a year where Manning was active.

Good game by the Bills. Pathetic by the Colts. Once again they come out unprepared. Deserved to lose Will be interesting to see Bills now play NE. Much harder match up for NE than the awful Pitt D. St Louis might knock off Seattle, up by 3 in OT Good news for Colts is Houston and Jax also lose, Tenn plays later Completely agree with the last part. I don't trust much either the NFL or the NFLPA says or claims about anything anymore.

S06.E04: Queer Studies & Advanced Waxing
DrSpaceman73 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Community [V]
I didnt really care for the bird plot. Seemed to much like a Phoebe move from Friends. Loved the rest though. ANd I do think its funny some people don't like Daniel in Karate Kid. I thought it was just a Barney thing from HIMYM, but apparentely some people seriously feel that way. I never did. I thought the story was about both him and Mr M, equally. Gary Gulman does a great bit about the Karate Kid and how the Crane is such a stupid move. In the first move Mr M says if its done right, no one can stop it. Then in the second movie, the one guy stops it pretty easily. Very funny commentary on the whole thing. -
How I Met Your Mother - General Discussion
DrSpaceman73 replied to nymusix's topic in How I Met Your Mother
Not a big fan of Robin Barney together either. I didn't mind them dating, but not marrying and being the central part to the crappy last season. I think that was some fanwanking earlier on in the show that for some reason the writers loved so much they took it WAY to far. I can't imagine that was a plan from the beginning, unlike the killing off the mother to be with Robin idea. -
Sports Illustrated's NFL preview issues, front and back covers, had Peyton, Eli, Romo and Luck from these commercials, each in both forms. At least I thought it was Peyton in it....maybe I am wrong. I still like the Rob Lowe one the best though. I love those commecials. Wouldn't mind seeing Luke Kuechly do one. He has done some local commercials in Charlotte for various products that are hilarious.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
DrSpaceman73 replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I hate the Chevy commercials. Did a 3rd grader come up with these? The 'who won this award. Would you believe Chevy' type ads? You paid some company to come up with that. Then all the "Oh, this is a Chevy" shocked results. Every 10 minutes during football games. This is quickly going to be worse than that "Zoom, zoom" little creepy kid. -
There is a specific reason this is mentioned about narcolepsy. Belsomra's novel or new mechanism of action is that its a hypocretin antagonist. Hypocretin is the chemical/hormone in the brain that when deficient causes narcolepsy. this is why they have to put that warning in there. Would be specifically contraindicated in narcolepsy for this reason. This is also the reason for possible hallucinations, i think. One of the lesser known symptoms of narcolepsy is sleep related hallucinations. (Though its actually not common even in those with narcolepsy). And yes, some people with narcolepsy do develop insomnia, as odd as that may seem. Its messes up the sleep wake cycle and causes fragmented sleep, so this can lead to insomnia. There is actually a drug for this some patients use, believe it or not, that most people would be horrified to learn about. Its not advertised, its called Xyrem by prescription. Its actually Gamahydroxybutyrate, which is Rohypnol, the date rape drug. Tightly regulated, for good reason. It helps not just insomnia but some symptoms of narcolepsy. Just be glad there are not ads for that one on TV. You can imagine the warning for that

GAry Gulman!!! Forgot about him, that would be great. He and Anthony could hold a competition, whose the bigger smug bastard. I think they are both hilarious, but they give off that vibe. I had forgot Lavell was in Breaking Bad. Also did a great episode of Its Always sunny in Philadpelphia, basically played himself, The Gang Breaks Dee

I wouldnt mind seeing a Last Comic Standing All Star edition. I would prefer that next year to another round of mediocre comics. Jeselnik can host again. Bring back Amy Shcumer, Kathleen Madigan, Rod Man, Lachlan, Alonzo Bolden......pick 25 of them and declare a grand champion.
-
I did not like Ralphie May at all during the show, but I have heard some of his stand up on Comedy central and he is OK. I don't like all of it, but some of it I find funny. I actually thought Rod Man last year was pretty original in his delivery and style. I don't view him at all as the same as Clayton, other than them both being African American I do certainly think they have demographics they look for though in who advances during the show

f I am not sure how he could have done worse than the guys Pitt had in their trying to score instead. Not really impressive goal line offense. Yes, the headset issues affect both teams and it happens everywhere, but far more stories like these happen at NE than anywhere else. This one was probably a fluke, but I doubt they all are. And I think the media and the league does need to keep after and will keep after looking into every little thing like this that happens in NE. Call it what you want, but the lack of real scrutiny and allowing them to dismiss and deny for years is what has allowed their tactics to go on for so long. If Kraft and the Pats thought that one overturned court decision would end the scrutiny and questions, I think they are badly mistaken.
-
Pats played better but I agree both defenses looked pretty bad. Pittsburgh had 3 scoring oppurtunities in the first half and scored 3 points. That lost the game for them. Two missed FGs and Darius heyward-bey screws up an easy TD by stepping out of bounds, which is typical for him. I watched him a whole season in Indy and he is completely worthless. He ended up on special teams by the end of the year, wasn't event being used as a WR. The in the second half another trip to the one yeard line and come away with a FG. 4 scoring zone opprtunities and 6 points......not beat the Pats that way. Not only do the Steelers lose, but Scobee misses two FGs, they go for two one another so he doesn't get the extra point and they take out DeAngelo Williams AT THE FREAKIN GOAL LINE after he runs up and down the field against them to prevent me from scoring about 20 fantasy points. Thanks Pitt. I go back to hating you now in every other game.

This was just a pretty dull season overall. I am fine with Clayton winning, but even he I did not think was that great. He was good, solid, that was it. That was not one comic the whole season that I thought had a great or amazing set start to finish even once. There were some great jokes. The best I still think is Sheng's credit card joke about buying marijuana. But no great sets start to finish. I liked Michael and Clayton last night. The rest really sucked Andi is officially my least favorite comic ever on the show. That was previously Jay London. She wins now though. Seriously I could just ask a 5 year old to tell me some jokes and get the same entertainment value and hear the same jokes with bad puns. Probably better ones, and with better delivery. I hope that is truly an act by her otherwise I think she much have some sort of mental disorder. Still think the best thing about this season was Anthony Jeselnik hosting. This show definetly works best when they give it 2-3 years in between "seasons". I think they were just short on quality stand ups to choose from. I hope that is the case. The alternative is that NBC is just really BAD at picking who to be on the show.

I am not a big fan of Caroll either for that reason. NCAA violations and NFL violations I think are very different though. The NCAA rules just border on ridiculous at times. Some may think its picky but there is at least good reason the balls should be within a certain pressure during a game, or at least before a game. Plus Brady can't complain much about the rules about the balls when he and Manning were two of the main QBs who pushed for the rules for the footballs in the first place. There is far more legitimacy to that rule than saying giving a recruit cream cheese on their bagel during a recruiting trip is an NCAA violation (thats an actual rule) But I agree, this LONG ago became about much more than just the pressure in footballs. The case is the culmination of a mutlilayered league power struggle that Goodell is at the very head of, front and center, and that he does not want to lose.
-
My general impression from all this, and what I think most fans will be left with as a lasting impression, is this : Goodell is power hungry and makes his decisions based on many things, including public perceptions, who is behind the scenes pushing him, the image he WANTS the league to project even if that image is false, many other factors beyond just the case and the facts at hand. I don't really trust him to make sensible decisions on these cases. Kraft, BB and the Pats in general cheat every way and every chance they get and will lie and deny it to the very end, then twist and manipulate there way out of things in whatever way necessary. This report did honestly change my view of Spygate. I readily admit I am one of the biggest Patriots haters, if you want to call it that. However I was never that impressed with SPygate or what we knew was true out of it all. This, however, confirmed many rumors that have been around the league for years that I never really believed. Before I just dismissed most of it as that, rumors. I don't think you can deny much of it though after this report. And yes, all teams cheat to some degree. There is cutting the corners and bending rules, though, and then there is just blatantly and obviously disregarding the rules you don't like and just daring the league to stop you and do something about it. The latter is what the Pats do, the league finally is calling their dare with deflategate. I don't trust either one of them. I don't assume anything either one of them says has an ounce of truth. My level of distrust of Goodell has reached the level it reached with Stern in the NBA after Tim Donaghy was found to be betting one games (one rogue ref, yeah, sure) and The Brawl, a complete spin job by the league to blame it all on the Pacers. With Tim Donaghy it was kind of the same way as Spyagte. Rumors for years of refs manipulating games one way or another, whether by the league pushing them or of their own doing. I never truly believed it, or at least most of it, it was just a rumor, suspicion. Then you hear he was ACTUALLY betting on games himself, plus I believe he wrote a book and you learn much of that was not just rumors, some of those things really did happen. DId it affect the outcome of any major series? Who knows, but it gives legitimacy to the questions. I don't seriously think anything will happen to either one of these as a result of this, though, other than them sniping and beating up on each other more. And I think the other owners are satisfied for the most part to sit back and let that happen. I think they (other owners) will be satisfied that if anything this has accomplished one thing : a huge rift bewteen Goodell and Kraft. SI did a cover a few years back of the most powerful people in sports and Goodell was on the cover sitting on the Iron Throne from the Game of Thrones. At the time I just thought it was just a symbolic picture based on a pop culture reference, appropriate but nothing more than a passing symbol of his power. Now, looking back at Deflategate and what this whole case has shed on the behind the scenes workings of the NFL front office, just based on what we DO know, let alone what we can imagine what else must be happening that we DON'T know, that cover seems much more apropo than it did when it first came out. Its not just that the Iron Throne is a symbol of power. It seems the show truly could be an allegory of what goes on with Goodell and the league owners.
-
Oh I would not doubt at all that Goodell or the NFL fed this story to ESPN for that purpose. Still doesn't make it untrue In fact I would go so far as to say they likely told the Pats this when they were "negotiating" with Brady and Kraft over the 4 games. You admit what you did, this story dies. You don't, ESPN has an exclusive. You are right, they are all scum. If I had my choice, and if the other owners were smart, you hold two votes over this to end it : Fire Goodell Kick Kraft out and make him sell the team. The end. They can do both those things with enough votes. They did it in the NBA.
-
All this just proves what I have believed from the beginning (as DrSpaceman, re-registered as DrSpaceman73), which is this is a whole big pissing match and split between Goodell and Kraft. The sequence is pretty clear and starts with Spygate. Kraft is the one who helped get goodell elected Commissioner. Shortly after (a year or so), spygate happens. Kraft basically tells him sweep it under the rug, minimize it, otherwise I will back some other puppet commissioner. He obeys, despite a ton of complaints over five years by many NFL teams, not just the Colts and ravens, that a strongeer message has to be sent to the Pats. Slap on the wrist, BB "apoligizes" in his boldfaced lying manner, everyone moves on Continued complaints for years about the Pats continuing to cheat. Finally the owners gets sick of it, Deflategate comes up and they see their chance to put a real punishment on the Pats. The other owners make it clear to Goodell, you make a real penalty on the Pats or we can find someone else to do your job This all came to a head at the owners meeting. There was a well reported story I heard on ESPN that at a bigwig NFL party during the owners meeting after the Wells report and the suspensions came out, Goodell and Kraft were seen talking a LONG time during the party. I imagine the conversation went something like this, paraphrasing of course : Kraft : You can't do this, if you try, I will go to the other owners, I will have your job Goodell : you don't understand.......the other owners are the REASON for this, not me. I can't help you on this on and a big punishment has to occur Kraft : You have to squash this again like Spygate Goodell : Its not happening this time etc..... From then on it just escalated. So no, this was never about deflated footballs and no, if it was another team, that didn't repeatedly cheat, this would not have happened. This was Al Capone being caught for tax fraud. The deflategate is an excuse to punish the pats and send a message the other owners are sick of them cheating. And by now with ALL these reports coming out, if you STILL cannot believe any of it is true, despite NINETY people that work for the NFL including FORMER PATS EMPLOYEES in this new report surrounding spygate, plus Mike Martz publically speaking about it, well, I can't help you with your delusion anymore. You are basically on a vaccine autism link or 911 denier now in my view if you still deny this is all made up and they never did anything wrong, the ENTIRE league is all lying and making this all up. Yes the Pats have been a successful franchise for the past 15 years, but its not like they are winning titles every single year. The Colts, Saints, Steelers x 2, Buccaneers, Sehawks (almost twice), Ravens twice, Giants twice have all also won titles since the Pats first win. ANd you know what they all have in common? No one is claiming they did anyways close to the type of stuff the Pats are accused of over the past 15 years. Yes, bountygate, but bountygate is not cheating. A bounty is a safety precaution, its not cheating to help you win This is not Goodell punishing the Pats. If he had his way my guess is this again would have been a swept under the rug wrist slap, fire the two employees and a $25K fine or so. This is the owners drawing a line in the sand, their version of Captain Picard in Star Trek screaming "We must draw the line here" to stop the advance of the Borg. This is the other owners vs Kraft, has been from the beginning, not Goodell vs. Kraft So now Goodell and Kraft are split, they appear to be willing to do anything to destroy the other ANd I don't care about either of them, so just let them do it.
