  1. Totally agree with this. Gabby may be more commercial but Maddie is way better IMO. I love her style of singing, her arrangements and she actually has a great voice. A lot of singer songwriters don't. She reminds me of Colbie Callet and I definitely think there's a lane for her in today's music. And Gabby is a lot like Carrie, or she wants to be so badly, and we already had her as a winner. I don't care if another guy wins if the alternative is Gabby as the winner. I think Caleb is much better than Scotty whereas Gabby will never be as good as Carrie. Agree. She is technically a good singer but she does nothing for me. As one poster said, she's not original at all. Do we really need another Carrie? Maybe I'm just tired of over the top belters. But her personality irks me. I thought the same thing. Kind of ironic that's the night he gets sent home. To bad we couldn't have seen this side of him earlier but it was time for him to go.
  2. This is exactly the top 3 I predicted. Good job all three of you. Hope finale is Gabby 3rd, Caleb 2nd and Maddie the winner. Gabby, Maddie and Caleb. Cade and Michael went home.
  3. Thanks @llewis823. Guess my memory didn't fail me completely. I thought I had seen him perform it somewhere. I just assumed from that that he had wrote and sung it as well. After looking up the video by Morris Day I remembered then that it was sung by someone else.
  4. That would be me. I honestly thought he sung it as well. I could have swore I remember Prince performing this on something. Oh well..my memory failed me on that one. Sorry for misinforming anyone.
  5. Another thing I noticed that they've changed this year, and I don't think it's been mentioned, is that only the top 7 will be going on tour this year. It used to be the top 10. That means Dennis, Ada/m, and Michelle will not be joining them. ABC has really made a lot of changes. I wonder if they will keep everything the same next year or change it up even more.
  6. I remember seeing her judge on a episode of XFactor UK. I specifically remember it because of an audition where she was the last judge to speak and out of 4 judges the count was 2 yes and 1 no to send him through, so her vote was critical to whether he went home or not. It was a lot of pressure on her and she was torn. She talked about being 15 when she started and sometimes it took years to make it and then she said, "do I think you have talent..yes you have a seed of it". She waited a few more seconds then threw her hands in the air and said, "yes why not". Turns out the contestant was Niall Horan who went on to fame in One Direction and is now having success as a solo artist in the singer/songwriter vein. Years later she was able to present him (and the band) an award for best video IIRC, so it kind of came full circle. And I agree she was very laid back but serious in her critiques. None of this OTT antics. But as you said she hadn't blown up real big yet. I think the superstardom has went to her head.
  7. He not only wrote it but sung it as well. This. She has talent and stage presence but I just can't warm up to her. I think it's because her confidence sometimes comes across as cocky and arrogant. When they crown winners they always seem shocked and humbled to varying degrees. She strikes me as if she would act shocked but not really mean it because she knew all along she was the best. Or like she was entitled to it. Just my opinion.
  8. Does it go now to one eliminated per week or are two more eliminated next week to get the final three? I think the top 5 will go as follows bottom to top: Cade, Michael, Gabby/Caleb or vice versa with the final two being Caleb/Maddie or Gabby/Maddie. The winner will be Maddie. I can't decide how second and third place will fall. Caleb and Gabby are both good and both have large fan bases I'm sure. Could go either way. Of course that's just my opinion. I totally expect there could be some surprises.
  9. Absolutely. She sung both of her songs well and I think she's been the most consistent throughout the show. She's the best of the remaining five and really hope/expect her to win.
  10. Nice summary of Cade @TVFan17. I agree with your assessment that he isn't ready to win American Idol. I think it's possible he could have a career if a producer wanted to capitalize on his popularity and guide him until he's ready. Watching his You Tube channel I see he is more versatile than what's been shown on AI. I thought he was good playing piano and singing ballads. I was hoping he would show that side of him on AI but we still might see it yet. I honestly expect him to go home next week though. He's had a nice run but the remaining 4 are better than him and I don't think he needs to take any of their spots. I wouldn't be mad if he made it next week but I don't think it would be fair. Unless he has an awesome night and someone else bombs badly. I don't see that happening though.
  11. Regarding Jurnee I agree she wasn't connecting. If you put her against Maddie and Gabby it's easy to see the difference. They are always smiling and really seem to enjoy performing. Their passion, playfulness, and sass make them easier to relate to. Jurnee almost came across as if performing was a job she had to get done but with no real desire to do it. Maybe she will loosen up more when she is in front of a live crowd. But she was singing in front of live audiences the last few performances so I don't know.
  12. Yes and can anyone imagine how betrayed and guilty they must have felt. He was someone the family trusted and believed was a good kid. I'm sure they've many times wondered why they couldn't see he could not be trusted or that they would have been more aware of and less lenient of her activities. Some have thought he panicked and it was a shame he thought he couldn't be a father and Marine at the same time. But I don't see it that way. I believe he was a sociopath who cared about no one but himself. If he had truly just panicked in the moment than I believe he would have caved long before he did. But he was one cool customer who thought he would never get caught. If Dani had never told him she was pregnant and they had stayed together I believe his ruthlessness would still have manifested itself at some point. Teenagers think they are invincible and the pregnancy tactic has been used more than anyone might think. Even by adult women. Yes a dangerous game but the majority of these situations work themselves out when the girl/woman tells the truth or can no longer keep up the charade. Most don't end up with someone being killed. Unfortunately for Dani she was dealing with a sociopath.
  13. Yeah that bothered me. I realize she loved her son but at least he was still alive and she would be able to visit him. And it was almost like she was preaching to Dani's family. Her tone was as if they owed her son something. The nerve of her. I too was glad Dani's mother was able from the depths of her soul tell his mother, "Mercy??... You speak of mercy when my daughter was never allowed it". Did anyone notice the look on Je'Michael's face as she was saying that? There was only what looked like a few feet that separated them and he looked terrified she was going to come over the partition wall and jump him. I never bought that whole account for a second. I have seen so many times, and am getting tired of, killers trying to blame the victim to garner some sympathy for why they did what they did. According to him she initiated it by slapping him, then jumping him beating him so bad that he had to fight back to save his life. Then he "blacked out" and when he woke she wasn't breathing. I don't believe that he couldn't have quickly overpowered her if she had initiated it, but even if she had the fact that he had an accomplice right there with him who could have easily pulled her off (if he had truly met her with good intentions and she became violent) or help him get the upper hand and finish her off, makes that story laughable. She stood no chance against the two of them. I do wonder though if the fact that he had someone with him, when I'm sure she thought they were meeting privately, raise any red flags with her. I guess there's always the possibility that she had met him with his friend before but I don't really think so.
  14. I liked Cade's arrangement on, 'Kiss The Girl" but I wasn't familiar enough with the song so it was hard for me to understand what he was saying. Granted his voice isn't the best but after I watched the original on YouTube I completely understood everything he was singing. I think any song, even with the best voice, sounds better if you know and are familiar with it. Totally agree. He left me with the same impression. Nice voice but his performances didn't stick with me. Michael's performances, on the other hand, made an impression. Nice phrasing, great buildup from low to high register, and lots of energy. It didn't help Dennis that he went last but like you I don't think it would have mattered what order he sung in ultimately. The writing was on the wall.
  15. If the show allows it (and I don't see why not considering it's technically a Prince song) then I can totally see her singing that. The only drawback I see to it is some people may think it's a little repetitive since she just sang another Bangles song just a few weeks ago with, "Walk Like An Egyptian". I'm sure whatever she picks she'll do a great job.
  16. I was responding with my opinion on things you said in your posts. Same as you are doing with me. You think he's confident/arrogant (as you stated above) and I think he's confident yes, arrogant no. That's why I said your opinion may differ. I mean that is what the board is about..to discuss and give our opinions. Even if it differs from someone else. Happens all the time. I agree with many of your points in the post above. I think Cade can be successful if surrounded by people who believe in him and can blend some original current tunes in with the classics. I can see your point also that he could potentially get a spot as musician for a top artist, if not a solo career. I think his guitar skills are solid. And I too think Maddie will be the winner. Not only think but hope she's the winner.
  17. Catie is the only contestant I have heard in the history of this show say when asked if they think they can win the show, "honestly not really". Given her quirky/offbeat personality I didn't take it seriously. Cade was asked this question it wasn't something he volunteered. As they have asked many contestants over the years and 99% of the their responses have been, "yes". And honestly what does anyone expect them to say? If they say no they come across as not confident or weak. If you say it with a, "yes I absolutely think I will win this" attitude as opposed to, "yes I think there's a reasonable possibility" than that can be perceived in different ways. Most contestants fall in the second category I think. Including Cade. Your opinion may differ of course.
  18. Funny what you call confidence in Gabby is arrogance with Cade?? They both have a right to be confident of their talents and skills. I'm not an expert but I think Cade has awesome guitar skills. He's been playing since he was a young teen and won a competition as best guitarist in Texas. His singing is not the best but he still has time to hone it with the right people around him. Gabby is very confident of her skills, as she should be, but it sometimes borders on arrogance in my opinion. I think she was awesome when she did, "Little Red Wagon". No one can deny her talent. Maybe a lot of it is just her age but personally I prefer my stars to be more down to earth and self depreciating. Kelly Clarkson is a perfect example.
  19. I don't think Cade and Gabby are on the same level regarding their intentions though. For all the comments I've heard this season about Cade being arrogant I think the entire opposite. He comes across very humble, sincere and polite to me. Gabby on the other hand seems somewhat fake and calculating. Cade seemed so embarrassed by Katy's antics last night that he couldn't wait to get off the stage and shut her up. But for all her covering her face in horror when Ryan outed them I suspect Gabby was relishing the attention. There's a video on YouTube of them in which she is singing as he plays the guitar for her. It struck me very much that it's all about her and Cade seems smitten with her. I could be wrong but if she wins this thing or even comes close I predict she will forget him quickly. They may be riding off into the sunset but I doubt it will be together. ETA: Cade may have a sizable fan base and go far but I don't see him winning. I think Maddie will take the crown.
  20. I totally agree. I also believe of all the contestants left it will be hard to not like the eventually winner. And I totally forgot to add Michael to my favorites tonight. His singing was a little shaky but he corrected and delivered a awesome performance. His body of work so far has been very impressive and he is so darn likable.
  21. I actually liked his performance tonight. I looked the original Disney version up on You Tube and it made me understand and appreciate his performance more. His voice is so reminiscent of the 80's rocker and sounded very much like most of their rock ballad voices. Of course his voice isn't as good as most of the others. This has always been a show centered more on the pop, and to a lesser extent, country voices so theirs is always going to be more mainstream and focused on vocal ability. But in the rock world I can see him having a decent career. My favorites tonight were Maddie and Caleb. I fully expect to see these two in the top 5 and possibly the winner. I can actually imagine them being played on the radio and I would buy their CD's. Count me in the Katie is OTT and embarrassing group. I really hope if AI is on next season they don't bring her back.
  22. To me Jurnee doesn't look black but definitely Hispanic. And I could have swore when they showed her parents in the audience they were both white. Maybe she's adopted? And wouldn't it still be considered as "racist" if she identified as Hispanic and that's why people are complaining? Where did you get your info that she was mixed and part black? As I stated once before I think the judges put through Michelle and Ada because they wanted people with gimmicks who stand out, have an "act" and who they think are "the whole package". I may be wrong but I believe there aren't any current major female Hispanic artists like JLo and the judges think that's a wide open spot for Michelle to step into. And to my knowledge there has never been a transgender artist to make it big and wouldn't Al (and Katy Perry) love to say they were the first to discover him/her. They would love to take credit for it regardless if said him/her doesn't really have that much talent. Which accounts for a lot of artists in today's music scene. No need for a lot of talent just have a stand out/gimmicky persona and today's teens and young adults will eat that up. They are also the biggest music buying group I think I remember reading and that's what AI wants. Someone who they think will sell records, arenas, merchandise..etc.
  23. According to the Census Bureau there are 63% whites, 17.7% Hispanics, and 12.3% blacks in this country. We had 3 black people in the top 14. That runs pretty close to the national average. I agree with the poster who thought the votes might be skewed towards whites because of the percentage breakdown. But I believe people simply voting for who they like best and consider the most talented, regardless of race, is the single biggest factor in the results. Personally I think America got it right. I wouldn't care to bet that if we could have seen the top ten that America voted for Dennis would have been there. But of the three black men I most definitely thought Michael was the best. I also wouldn't think twice about voting for a black person over a white if I thought the black was more talented.
  24. And I'm worried about Cade on this one. I can't imagine how he's going to translate a Disney song to his rocker style. Unless he can pull off some David Cook arrangement with his version of "Hello". Will be interesting to see what he comes up with.
  25. I agree with you both. I was honestly shocked when they put her through. I wasn't even worried about her being picked. I thought for sure she was a goner. But unfortunately in today's music world they rely more on gimmicky acts and what they call "the whole package". I think Lady Gaga is talented but I wonder if she would have made it based on talent alone and without that hideous wacky persona she debuted with. And honestly Katy Perry herself has made it based a lot on her quirky, wacky persona. We all know she doesn't have that strong of a voice. Sadly a lot of today's music scene is full of these type of performers. Adele and ones of her caliber are in the minority.
