Yeah. I just wanted to type the fewest words possible last night :D

Oh wow. This felt like a season finale to me. welp

Today my mom was reading the newspaper, saw an article about the Hindenberg - and noticed a picture from the pilot. Thought it was cool. http://www.app.com/story/news/history/2017/05/04/hindenburg-haunted-nazi-legacy/101294136/

That episode was good. JJ & Caroline was good together. Though I want to know what Disco Mode would look like - I imagine it would be a disco ball instead of that multi-color LED ball thing. It seems in addition to Architecture, Jimmy has some engineering skills. The thing with Ray and the people in the Reagan masks was a bit odd, but it made me laugh a lot when it appeared in the tag. It was just the right amount of odd.

Yeah, we have great stuff here in the northeast. When I was in college (2008-2013) studying special education, one of my professors mentioned that a colleague of hers was doing a study regarding autism incidence rates - apparently it is much higher in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic States (CT, NY, and NJ) than the rest of the country - with NJ having the highest diagnosis rates among school-aged children.

Transition planning is required to start by 16, but most places start it at 13/14, because starting it at 16, two years before HS graduation "typically" happens is just silly. You can be fully mainstreamed and have an IEP. I am assuming that since JJ has an aide, that he has an IEP - Maya isn't stupid, she wouldn't let him lose the protection that an IEP (/IDEA) provides. And well, JJ *needs* and IEP, he can't go without one, since he needs an aide - Kenneth could have a dentist appointment and need the morning off, so they'd have to get a substitute para for the morning, for example.
-
I want them to do an episode next season where they can somehow do a portion of the episode animated like an 80s or 90s cartoon - like Captain Planet. Just so we know that the show accepts that it is pretty much a live action saturday morning cartoon at this point.

Yeah, it was a way for the kids to ask questions and get answers about the possibilities without JJ sitting there the whole time feeling like everyone is either over or under-estimating him. There are times where you can talk about a person's future without them present - it wasn't like they were making plans, they were simply broaching the subject in earnest for the first time.

That was a good episode - I liked that we got to see JJ's conversation with Kenneth and we got to see how the family dealt with JJ reacting to it. I really liked JJ yelling at them. Learning Kenneth's backstory was good - but I hope next season, they flesh out Dylan more, she needs to be worked on a bit. The Jimmy/Ray plot felt a bit weak, but it was after a big episode, so they had to deal with that. Personally, I think that the family talking about JJ's future without having him in the discussion is something that was fine to do - Dylan and Ray want the chance to be completely frank with their parents, since they wouldn't want to offend JJ. I imagine that if they knew JJ were home, they would've invited him into the conversation and continued it with him present. Ray asked about it, so they had the conversation - it would've been weird for Jimmy/Maya to go "Nah, let's wait for a time when JJ is home, then we'll talk about it." as they are a family that seems like if it comes up and they are up for talking about it, they will talk about it.

That was bugging me the whole episode. THAT'S where I recognized her from.

Could he use adapted clothing? I have different limitations, but when I was doing student teaching - my mom bought me dress pants and sewed a little thing I could just slide a clasp into, instead of a button - then she'd button a dress shirt up halfway, then I would walk out of the bathroom and she would button it up the rest of the way. Then the reverse when I got home (she'd unbutton it halfway, then I would slip out of the shirt).

Let's have it be totally bonkers and it is Ralph speeding off. Or Walter invents a self driving car to speed off for him. Though yours makes sense.
-
The only thing I was wondering at the end of the episode is if the season finale will continue the trend of Scorpion season finales with Walter speeding off somewhere.

Telekinesis!

I took Dylan's comments in "Date?" as more biting sarcasm than disrespect - as Jimmy and Dylan have their own relationship (as shown in Raycation, with the toys)

Yeah, affordable and accessible section 8 housing is very, very rare. I remember reading that Micah got the news of being cast on his 18th birthday, so he's at least 18 - i'd guess 18 going on 19, if not 19. The thing with the professor was the professor genuinely being an uneducated ass along with the LD services office not understanding the law (and making it so the college was 3 hours away from me notifying the federal Department of Education of a FERPA violation) - the professor expecting me to have "someone at home" do the bulk of the "assignments" (Like arts and crafts) was just nonsensical. The following semester, I had the only other professor who taught the course - I was very frank with him when I went up to him at the end of the first day of class and he was like "Okay okay, slow down. I am not like her, the way she teaches this course doesn't jive with a lot of people. I do not do any of the ridiculous shit she does. I actually *teach* in this class." Oh, yeah, it was a course on how to teach elementary social studies. I wonder if when JJ goes to college, we'll have him encounter a professor who isn't like "OMG UR SO INSPIRATIONAL" like the teachers at his high school - could make for a fun little introductory plot. Yeah, Jimmy seems a lot smarter than he did at the start of the series, which is a very good thing (Remember the 2nd episode's B-Plot?). I hope that after this episode, Ray starts to view Jimmy differently.

JJ will only have the related services if he chooses to delay his graduation - IDEA covers until 21 or the student's graduation. I imagine that if JJ has an IEP, the state agency (or agencies) are, involved in his IEP meetings if they haven't already been involved in transition planning. A lot of states have different "tiers" of supports for people with disabilities - some of them just go by the SSA regs, so if the SSA considers the individual disabled, that is good enough for the state agency. Even if they get resources or income beyond the SSA limits, as long as they are still disabled by the SSA's guidelines, they qualify. And, honestly, JJ would have a *lot* of Impairment Related Work Expenses, which could be in his favor. Section 8 has one of the longest waiting lists around - it'd be easier for him to just get a lot of PCAs, maybe find someone with needs similar to his - or someone who just needs a PCA. They also have Micah Fowler to consult This theme will definitely be interesting. Yeah, that professor was pretty disgusting - she did a lot more than that, which led to me getting an emergency withdrawal from the course. The state office of civil rights refused to take up my complaint, even though I had recordings of her telling the class in vivid detail about what I can't do because of my disabilities. Yeah, being independent has a lot of meanings. Honestly, I don't see myself living alone - I will probably need to start looking into PCAs, because I cannot drive, cook (Can't cut food!), or write (Makes doctors appointments super fun). I can't button shirts either, but that isn't that bad, I just avoid things that need to be buttoned. The most important part of being independent is being able to direct your care. I think they were holding that scene in their back pocket - maybe they thought of the idea for it wen they were writing Hero, but wanted to make it a bigger plot if they had a back 9. I don't think they would have Jimmy quit - he wouldn't quit because that could hurt JJ. On the other hand, he could start to draw in his free time, maybe start to take some architecture classes at a community college, just to get back in the groove of things. They said he was going for a masters in Architecture, so I am guessing he has a Bachelors. He could take some courses just to get a feel for the new stuff in the field of architecture, then pursue it. I think it will pick up where it left off, because it would be odd to just skip over JJ and Kenneth talking. However, I could see it starting in media res, with Maya and JJ in some situation, then FIVE HOURS AGO

I filed a complaint against her with the university, they determined that she did not commit acts that were discriminatory under the law, but she was required to take sensitivity courses. It also led to the learning disability services office (Yep, a separate office, for some reason - was a professor's pet project) being eliminated and rolled into the disability services office (So no more need for students with LDs to coordinate every single thing with two different offices!). *** I think it was intentional to show how Ray's thinks. You get to see how he views the family and his role in it. He wants to succeed, but he wants to succeed with a purpose in mind.

I was thinking the same exact thing

That's why I loved that episode where JJ went to the mall - it let the viewers sort of get a glimpse into things that they take for granted - things that might be difficult for some people with disabilities. I once had to tell a college professor that I could not drive because of my disabilities, so I couldn't bring in a milk crate that she *demanded* had to be brought in (She wanted us to put her handouts in it to keep at home), she yelled at me to get one of my parents to take off work and drive me to campus with it.

I am guessing that the door is slow to close (so it hadn't closed yet) - or maybe it is easier to open from the inside. I think we can forgive Maya for not noticing because that was a *big* conversation. She was also probably expecting Kenneth to bring JJ in and be like "Okay, bye DiMeo's! See you tomorrow!" so they would have a few seconds of warning so they could stop the conversation for a minute, then involve JJ in it. JJ is probably viewing it as his family deciding his life for him without letting him have a say in it - despite Maya championing his independence. Did all of you see the AV Club's review of this episode (First episode that they have reviewed!) - it was very good, and we've been having great discussions about the show in the comments section. John Ross Bowie loved their review (and the comments section) so much, that he tweeted it out, even saying that the comments are great! (Here's the tweet, which links to the review)

Those programs usually have limits for hours a week provided. JJ does need assistance with activities of daily living - he needs help with using the bathroom (And bathing, I imagine) - right now, when Kenneth isn't around, I imagine his parents and siblings help him, but when they are older, a person in that situation would need someone there all the time, not saying they'd have to be doing stuff all the time, but just in case. Not saying a group home like a nursing home, but more what @joanne3482 was saying - a supportive environment. When he turns 18, if he is still in school - Maya can still have the same influence - in some places, the child hasn't reached the age of majority until the end of the school year that they turn 18 - at least in terms of IEPs (which I assume JJ has). But I imagine JJ values Maya's advice, but would be happy that her word isn't law - and would involve her (and Jimmy, I imagine) in decisionmaking.
-
There are those programs - but they can be difficult to locate (and then get into). I think JJ being part of a program like that would be more of a longterm goal for the DiMeo's - and even if they have that, Maya and Jimmy would need to have things in place. The severity of JJ's disabilities might be best served in a supportive/group home, where he can have the assistance that he needs.

That episode was great. I loved how it handled things - and that they had a discussion about JJ's future. Looking at JJ's search history, Dylan starting a fashion trend, and the return of that teacher - all amazing. The way Kenneth was scribing for JJ reminded me of a scribe I had once for a standardized test - I think I posted about that scribe in one of the topics here, but they acted just like Kenneth did, without anything really motivating them to do so, like that was with the relationship of JJ & Kenneth (which just made it weird!)

It did seem to indicate that Kate was staying with Rebecca - in the episode where they visited the weight loss doctor. I don't know about Toby, but that sounds right. We have no idea where Rebecca & Miguel are living, but it seems like a reasonable distance from NYC - but Pittsburgh seems a bit too far. Maybe they moved near Harrisburg (Closer than Pittsburgh, which is like a 6 hour drive from the city) when Randall settled in North Jersey - I assume Kevin was in the city until 22 or 24 or whenever he left for LA - did Kate come with him right away, or did she stay in the city for a while? I'd like to see some young adult flashbacks next season - could show how they adjusted to the first few years of Miguel and it would allow them to jump around Jack's death for a little while longer.
