The Paris Olympics: General Discussion And Anticipation
Daisy replied to CM-BlueButterfly's topic in 2024 Paris Olympic Games
Ah i see again. sorry i didn't respond to this. I saw you tag me [but edited it out] in the gymnastics discussion. but for whatever reason i never got the tag for this one. (or if i did it was buried) honestly in this case, i think i would have just moved everyone up. I really don't get how it was rejected to be deda honest w/you. but thems the breaks. in happier news this is Canada's winningest Olympics with 7 Gold Medals. (23 overall, and 2 guaranteed medals coming so we've tied Tokyo) - Good Job, Canucks! -
CANADA!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! it's tradition. If it's not the men, it's the women. and it's not a relay race if someone from Team USA doesn't screw it up. I think it's more rarer that it doesn't happen than when it does.
-
yeah. i think if this was said by someone not Anna it might have actually had more weight. a LOT of people who had this dream of putting Sonny away has ended up being just as corrupt or ended up broken and Sonny keeps walking away.

I am not going to speak for everyone else, but I'm not saying we need to go back to the 10.0 system. Gymnastics/Figure Skating made it extremely flawed. (esp. because it was basically common knowledge you had to hold back on scoring in the first flights because the last flights were coming up - since Tara v Michelle was brought up, I watched their two performances again and Scott Hamilton flat out stated - he wonders what Michelle's score would be had she been later into rotation. Elvis Stojko always made comments about this as well, like if you were earlier - you had the pressure of not only going early, but being a lot better because the room for error was smaller vs going later. Diving - i feel due to there being 6 dives - can still get away with 10.0 scoring because there's six attempts at 6 different dives and there's never been an Olympic diving meet that I've watched where someone hasn't moved from like near the bottom to a medal position - or vice versa - off their last 2 dives. including this Olympics where Canada splashed their medal away instead of splish). I am personally saying that i feel that it doesn't have to be one or the other (which is how FIG is doing it now). I feel it should be weighed equally. It just seems to me that Every Olympiad (and I follow a very informative gymnastics youtube channel) - every COP continues to lower the demand for artistry - and amps up the athletic component and in a sport that should be about blending the two - that doesn't sit right. there's always going to be a gymnast who is a lot more dominant in the athletic portion - there's also going to be some more dominant in portion, and I think if the artistic aspect was a bit more favoured - we'd see a lot more taking risks artistically and see a blend of the two together. right now the risk to be artistic is not there and that's sad for me. I also know they won't bring back compulsories for a huge myriad of reasons. i just simply liked them and it's a wish that they could somehow make it work. that's all. I really don't have a horse in this race mostly because Canada is a non entity at the Olympics when it comes to Gymnastics so this isn't me being oh grumble grumble it's not benefiting MY country. I'm usually team USA for the most part in competitions (depending on the sport. lol its a complicated process haha) - and my desires/wishes wouldn't help Canada either. I think i'll just leave it there, because ultimately, I know everyone watches the Olympics for a lot of different things so even though there are some things that I could go "well who cares" - well you care and that's important LOL so it doesn't matter if I get it or not. I just wanted to clear things up on my end.

yeah probably!

i'm so irritated. i missed Equestrian again. grrrrr. CBC didn't really air it/speak about it at all.

and it's not even taking anything away from her either. like she's doing really hard crap which good for her for pushing the bar, we need those people. we always need more "Korbuts" (as she did it first!) but i totally agree with you. like @surfgirl said it. when someone [even Simone] takes a large jump, and the commentators are going crazy, and even in 2008, 2012, you could hear Al [shut up Al!] Elfie & Tim go, oohh that landing though, ooh just a tiny hop on the landing. that's the litmus test. I know part of it now too is that FIG changed it so that you can't do a stag landing (i call it - your feet aren't together, but you still land firm without taking a step forward/backward to the to side), that basically protects your knees/ankles - so i think a lot of gymnasts just take the extra hop or whatever, and get docked for points for healthy joints. which i can't get mad at - but at the same time that should be penalized too. honestly, I think a lot of the ladies (and men for that matter) need to take a hard eye on rhythmic gymnastics. the connections and movement these girls do is breath taking. and i am just imagining some of those turns in combination with tumbling passes would be fire.

Anna: "What is the nature of your relationship with Ava Jerome." - answer. None of your business. moving on. and also Anna. shut up. John spoke some truth, calling her an apologist for Sonny [and Valentin. so yeah shut up Anna]. "Do you know how many law officials crashed against the rock that's sonny?" Donna: "am i in trouble for eating Daddy's vitamins?" Sonny: nope. Me: this is why Donna ate said vitamins. my mom would have given me what for. Portia: shrieking and raving at Heather who is clearly in police custody, hancuffed and in a wheelchair. that's real hospital care for you. lol Trina basically says the same thing. hahah. Also Portia - when Ryan Chamberlain was a patient in the hospital, Felicia wasn't a patient care advocate so again shut up. I feel sorry for Kristina Wagner in that scene because of her son :( I'm seeing John being set up to be The Evul. so there's no picture of Ava PUSHING Kristina but everyone is just ignoring that. ahuh mhm.

pretty much. i honestly think the easiest thing needs to be this. You have Execution Difficulty [Tumbling] Difficulty [Artistic]. have them weighted the same. if someone can do a Biles 1 in competition and it's sloppy. but someone can do a DaisyKittykat (and it's the best darn artistic move/combination series ever made). that should have same value. because what's the point of doing a Biles 1 on floor if it looks so janky and you take a massive leap forward - but you can do a perfect DaisyKittykat. back in my day grr grr grr (old woman shaking fist at clouds). if you fell off - that was it. hell if you took a massive step forward that was it. I still remember Shannon's sobs because she took that step out [DAMN YOU STEVE NUNNO!!]. and she knew her Olympic dreams were over. just like that. Now it's like you can touch the beam, can jump way out of bounds, and stuff and it feels you can still contend for a medal. why? because you are throwing all these massive tricks in the air and it doesn't matter if it's neat, you just did it. just doesn't jive for me. but i'm with you. I think i remember (it was in Beijing) - it also costs money to file an appeal. so maybe they weren't dead sure and they didn't have the money (it sounded like it was a costly amount and you had to pay cash, you couldn't say "Charge it to my RomEX"). so they didn't want to risk it. then they realised they SHOULD have. (but that's too bad so sad on you). Blaming Jordan is wrong. and I'm not American so i have no skin in this fight at all. (but i'm with you - even if i was, i'd say the same thing if it were reversed) see you in Milan & Cortina my friend. we can grouse about it then hahaha ohhh. yeah. that was drama and a half

COME JOIN ME ON MY ISLAND! I HAVE BABKA! (raspberry and apple cinnamon, fresh out of the oven with blueberry lemonade). and yes. and that's something I feel a lot of girls tend to neglect and it shows in their routines. i remember that in figure skatings a big reason why some were super medal contenders wasn't because of the short (which was more athletic) - but because of the compulsories. and then the free was go time and hope you were able to make the 4 minutes count for something. same with gymnastics. and you saw the technical shine through the other events. the more FIG makes it all about tumbling and screw everything else is the more i just don't like gymnastics as a whole. I'll watch it but i don't have the same zest for it as i did in 92 through 08.

ask any Toronto Maple Leafs fan - people still bring up Wayne Gretzky's missed call on Doug Gilmore but thems the breaks. I'm sorry that the Romanian girl got penalized for something she didn't do but obviously you didn't know this until after it was shown a few days later. it sucks. you can even be mad, but be gracefully mad.
-
yeup. exactly. but again the show has its fallback. Sonny isn't "bad" because he's having an episode. he is always there making pancakes for Avery. pretty much another Ward Cleaver here folks. this is the way i see it. and right now everyone is going to "she pushed" so she's in *defend* mode. again it's not helping her because it's just making her look more guilty.
-
and I wasn't saying she was a victim or anything. I'm just looking this strictly at Kristina's side. even if you think Ava was being a hypocrite because of her history (and acknowledging that having Sonny having zero lithium in his system was a danger to Avery and Donna etc) I'm not saying Ava should win (or Kristina should side with Ava) because Ava's "Mommy". I"m saying regardless of the fact that she doesn't like Ava and Sonny is her father Kristina should be thinking about this like a mother [or someone who should be in deep nesting right now]. In a vacuum, Ava and Sonny are basically two sides of the same coin - cruel, manipulative and vindictive but when push comes to shove - Ava will always put Avery's safety first. [i will acknowledge the fact that being off his meds did put Avery in danger because you never know when you'll have an attack). When Ava's stalking became more dangerous, Ava not only gave up Avery (to Carly which had to have sucked) - she was going to leave town and be away from Avery further. No hesitation. Sonny never does that. He'll send them to the "island" and hire more bodyguards but he never puts his children first. (and let's never forget, Sonny dove to protect Kate not Michael when he saw a gun). Kristina could air out all of Ava's dirty laundry (go for it). but to not even have any come to Jesus moment about what Sonny truly is again as a mother to be is crazy. The only difference between him beating up Dex at the wedding is that Sonny usually does his torture in private (so yeah no one would know he had Dex on a meat hook ready to be carved up). if she was thinking about changing her surrogate agreement because Tolly might break up and what would happen to the baby why isn't she thinking okay my dad is really not the most stable of people even when he's ON his meds, is this the healthiest thing for Avery? If i was a mom to be (or at least in full nesting mode) - no matter how much Ava was twisting the situation that is what was - all of that would be in my head. (I'm not sure if Kristina had that "what if" if ever, to be fair) - but that's where i was going of it. not "BE TEAM AVA because i like her or anything" but more "Be Team Ava, because she's got kinda a point." i hope that's a bit more clear. boy did she lol

the thing is it used to look so natural. I mean i agree with you - that it just looks perfunctory in a okay here i am, i'm doing something artsy, now i tumble wheee! Some girls though (in this era) do make it look very natural. there was the Italian girl I wanna say Manilla? all of her arm movements just flowed and it looked natural like everything had a purpose and it moved into and out of her routine and it was just a treat to watch. in Rio the girl who won on beam [she was Dutch if i recall rightly] her routine was also a treat to watch because - again flowed. Shannon Miller's 96 beam routine popped up on my youtube, and i just watched it because it was just... butter and the beam was her roll. I honestly wouldn't remove it but imo they need to make it more seamless rather than "checking off boxes." my personal waterloo here is that compulsories should come back in this and in figure skating - you don't even need to air it (though i enjoyed watching it LOL) but i feel that helps enhance free routines a bit more. but that'll never happen so. again. my waterloo lol

Because Morgan's dead, Byran. that's why they didn't recast.

i get what you mean. like people are saying Kristina should dump Blaze because she wasn't right there at her bedside. and I'm like. but didn't Natalia say her bloodsugar was low - thus meaning if she has a glycemic episode or something what use is Blaze going to be for anyone? (not to mention i get it, Natalia is a big ist & phobe - but what she said wasn't wrong - right now her family is worried about Kristina and mourning a baby - let the family have their moment then come back and be there for Kristina). and i've always say that. people grieve in weird ways. I'm very pragmatic when people are hurt/ill/die, I don't shed tears (even if it's someone close to me). it doesn't mean I don't hurt or i'm sad- i just don't emote it the way people tend to want to see people grieve. that's why i am always like let's see how it boils down - a few days/a week later. (it's hard when it's soap beacuse 1 day can be like a month LOL). but if things really start to crater then we can be all kick and whack them with spoons
-
that's what drives me insane. I've been on iron for my anemia for about 3 years now. and it still doesn't feel like it "kicks in" and these people make it sound like ooh yeah right dose, right off the bat? WOOOSSHH thanks much :) i'll comment once the yT clips start rolling in she was at carly's too. so why was his meds at carly's? Where was pilar? why were the meds... why am i even asking these dumb questions. they need to move the plot along lol
-
and you know, if Nina was still owner, they would be fitting her for a noose right about now. what did she do? wait what's wrong w/Donna?
-
yeah i just rewatched it. actually you know what it doesn't even really look like Ava touched Kristina. like she was about to, and Kristina pulled back or maybe they just couldn't get a good block for it because she yanks back and says don't touch her but she doesn't really force her arm FROM Ava's hand if that makes sense?

they lodged it. they lost. (we always lose our protests LOL) yeah. it's just pants. -
i still don't get why Ava made such a stupid story. just tell the truth. Kristina came, she got pissed off that she had to testify, [insert your white lie here that she reached out to comfort her] - but Kristina yanked back, screamed don't touch me, and tripped over a bag. yeah that makes so much sense. Jagger was fire when he first came on. man, I wish Mo would just retire already

i love your whole post, but this is what really bothers me. and they use this all the time for everyone. For the life of me I do not understand why Dante love Sonny. He felt 100 percent that he deserved to go to jail for the rest of his life because of the crimes he committed. then he was all "Oh he loves Morgan and Michael." but he still felt like he needed to defend Mr. Poletti. Then Sonny goes if someone took out Mr. Poletti - he deserved it. (why? because Sonny SAID SO). didn't even have the balls to look him in the face before he shot him dead blank in the chest and would have shot him dead in the head had Olivia not screamed at him that it's his son. And the thing is why does that matter. if it hadn't been Sonny's. but Sonny obviously cared for Olivia & Kate at that point - is the show telling us he would have spared Dante anyway? No. He would have arranged for Dante to be taken care of after. Everyone else be damned. And I've noticed for a while this is their new battle cry. Sonny's Son. Carly can never go to jail because her kids need her. Jason is strong, noble and true because he sacrificed his happiness and his time from his children to protect fair Carly from her dumbass decisions. And no one - not once ever claps back at them about how asinine that alll is. AJ wanted to be with his son. who cares what he wanted, just shove him on a meat hook, call him a pathetic bastard every time he drew breath and then murdered him in cold blood. (But it doesn't count, it never counts because Sonny was off his meds). Alcazar just wanted to be with his kids, everything he did was in retaliation to Sonny's actions, but - he was evil and Skye was perfectly okay to have Lorenzo shot down in cold blood. Their actions led to Diego to go on a murder spree and they never go "wait WE Caused this." no. it's everyone else's fault. Everytime Sonny goes unhinged, it's because he's off his meds. and they do this basically so everyone [except Mac] can be all "it's okay he IS a criminal but he was only really bad THIS time because of his meds. quite frankly, regardless of how she feels about Sonny, the fact that Kristina was about to be a mother. the fact that her father could beat up someone almost to death at a wedding should pretty much have her think "Is this what I would want for my sister? or MY kid?" and she should be on Ava's side. not all. "how could you have me testify the truth about my scum bag dad." I truly thought Jagger was going to be the chosen one because he came out hurling the truth bombs at Sonny but the show is going out of their way to make the federal agent be the big bad for you know - putting the criminal in jail. As they always do. they have to bend backwards to make someone look bad or cut corners so they look "justifiably" wrong. Ie: Jagger knows about Sonny's pills but didn't say anything so when it comes out and he knows - Jagger is the evul. And the thing is this too shall pass and everyone is going to love Sonny [except for Mac]. Jason will just stand there looking like a stone, and Carly is going to thirst after Jason while having sex with Charles Mesure. like. this is known. this show couldn't soap opera to save its life even if Agnes Nixon came back to earth to haunt these people. Honestly i've said this constantly, ABC cancelled the wrong dang show. OLTL was on fire when it got cancelled and AMC was getting it back together. but we kept the Sopranos Wannabee.

Canada gets tripped in 5000m. appeals and gets denied. this seems like a record. lol

kay thank you for clearing that up... Okay I have to be consistent here. [damnit lol]. if she was the only one cheating and not the entire team - then I think that's fair that she got stripped of her medal [and her points]. and not the entire Russian team. they didn't cheat. so i don't think they should be punished. it's only fair. However. in OTHER sports if ONE member of the team was caught w/a failed drug test - the entire team gets dinged [most notably track and field relay teams]. so i guess it could go any way here. What really makes it hard for me. [not just because i'm Canadian etc so obviously it's yay for my country]. i always like to give people/countries whatever the benefit of the doubt but it burns my biscuits tremendously when it's countries with statewide doping and they get caught over and over again. it actually hit me - that Russia actually isn't in Paris. like at all. probably because of the doping violations. It makes me wonder if they'll boot out China if they keep failing drug tests too.
