You know what's really interesting? Nadiya kept going "One of the girls," Josh goes "if there's one thing I hate...but I'll go along with it." but I think that would have been something had Josh said, "I just need to say something - i get what you mean, and I'm with you and everything, but I don't like being referred to as one of the girls." Simple, sweet, not confrontational. I didn't even see it as casual homophobia or what a lot of people were calling it out to be, because Lordy, have I been called one of the guys" because I'm a tomboy, love my sports, and all of that jazz. Two of my guy friends, one whom is gay, one whom is not. has always been referred to as one of the girls - because they hang out with my good girlfriends all of the time.. As well as - usually on Survivor, (Colton non withstanding), a few of the gay guys on the tribe do tend to gravitate towards the women. off the top of my head: Brandon (season 3) comes to mind (there was Chett who hung out Tracey and the rest on FvF (season 16). etc). Again - it's not excusing the behaviour, if it was intended to be wrong, and maybe this is a "the more you know" moment. Nadiya's comments saying that if he was straight I may not say it, didn't help her and maybe that's where it's coming from -but for me, it simply is seen as a turn of phrase. (I don't know them on TAR so maybe it's simply just linked to her seemingly homophobic behaviour there) that's my two cents on that. I have to say this was a very enjoyable premier. But, boy howdy - one of these days someone is going to go to Jeff and call him out on his everlasting bullcrap, or simply chew him out and it will be a glorious day indeed. "Move, woman?" not even "Val, you've got to pick it up" not "Val, you have to hustle!" not "Val - move it, you're falling behind." but "Move, Woman?" May the Brandon/Taj idea of an Exile Island alliance take place here. (and actually stick) that will be great. I like everyone. I really have to say. I have a grasp on all, everyone is funny, and genuine and there's no "I'm gonna be a douche so i can get ALL the camera time"

That was so dumb. Spinner lost a year, didn't Jay drop out/get kicked out? Alex - nothing.

I don't know if this is because I just watched 10 episodes of The Musketeers or this performance, but I have a feeling that I'm going to love Twelve (regardless of Moffatt's writing. I hate him. I hate him so freaking much.I don't know why I thought we were getting a new show-runner, but I was like for the love of GOD when I saw his name come up. So if we're running down the Doctors. I like all of them that i've seen but one. (One-Two, Eight, Nine, Ten, War). Eleven (or Matt) never did it or me. He peeked my interest a lot in season Five, and then it just dropped right off a cliff. So When we had A Christmas Invasion like opening, that we're already in the middle of the story, who knows how they found the dinosaur, and Clara has the rare duty of explaining to the audience "This is the New Doctor." I liked it. It forced me to to hop a long (unlike Eleven where we had to get to know a new companion And a new Doctor - which is why I loved the "Hello, I'm the Doctor Speech." So I find it very interesting that Twelve... really didn't have one? (I'm going to have to rewatch), but instead is begging Clara (and the audience) to see him as he is. An alien that we've traveled with and got too comfortable and he's changed. Because this is Moffatt, I'm not even going to get my hopes up, but this is my feeling on things 1: I'm wondering if Twelve is suffering from something more than Regeneration-itis. ie: he's been reset (a new set of... 12/13 regenerations), and maybe this is impacting him a lot more than we realize - ie: maybe this is the Valeyard's personality starting to shine through between cracks of the Doctor's muddled brain? 2: This is just the Doctor. He's cranky. And Scottish. (now imagine if we got a Companion who was Welsh? hehheh). those are just the two i have floating in my head. there could be more. In Regards to But He's So Old!! Thing. It actually... worked. Even though they took a hammer and smashed flies with it. The thing with Nine-Ten-Eleven is that they all looked young but i you looked into their eyes they were old. Twelve just doesn't look old behind the eyes, he's literally. Old. And even with throwing Three and Seven in there, generally speaking the Doctor has looked relatively young. So I could see why Clara (with her fragments of shattered life in there) would be thrown that at the very least, Twelve doesn't look as young as say, Eight. Or Nine, ie - keeping up the appearance of youth. Though I find Peter Capaldi very dashing. And old is very relative. I am very much married to Star Trek's Jean-Luc Picard and Sean Connery. Old is very sexy given the right package.(and the thing is too. thinking about on my love of Ten.... his being 'pretty' never really had anything to do with it. (It was actually the Glasses that first sold it). it was just... Ten. and his toothy.. "hello" Capaldi had me with his intensity and darknesss. Like I said I'm intrigued. Also, I think while Clara knows all the faces, she's never been part of a regeneration experience and had to deal with regeneration-itis. Ergo, this is her first rodeo, and we have a man who is all about the kidneys, doesn't know how to drive the TARDIS (we don't know how they found the Dinosaur), and JUST realising that he has a new set of regenerations. I think it was overwhelming for her. With that being said. I still don't like Clara, because I don't know Clara. And it's very obvious that Mofatt isn't going to let us know her. I hate Missy on Principle. (Boyfriend?)

and the weight loss was totally unmentioned, you'd think ther would have been a shout out to his heart attack or something. I think he changed his name to honour his grandmother.

The just did not give Clare a baby. If we follow this right.... Spike had her baby Manny aborted Mia (has a kid) Jenna + Liberty have had the kids, but put them up for adoption. Dallas has his kid. Ali had a pregnancy scare So i think maybe we'll be seeing a Clare faces abortion storyline. And truthfully, I didn't see this coming at all. I thought they were going to have cancer come back. Poor Tristan :( I know that Yates was a douche, but i just felt that they made him an uber pervy teacher and pushed it to the side. it was a bummer that's all we're going to get. Becky and Drew. Meh.
-
i think - what really threw me off this episode - was how happy Tristan was. Like... points for him being a supportive friend, but there wasn't any inclination, indication - nada ziich.. that he was upset about Yates, still p.o.ed regarding Maya. (I think that threw me more than anything else on the show this week).

Especially considering that's not how it works in Canada - at all. Our legal system is very much based on the UK system - complete with black gowns and the like. This was very law and order-y. I do find it interesting that Becky's parents are like "perjure yourself it's quite okay.. Though i loathe how television portrays Christians too - so i'm not surprised.

Marco was a degrassi teacher (only a Sub though).

I think my one problem with the New Degrassi (and it's really my only problem) - is how 'Americanized" the show has gotten. Everyone who graduates is going to Stanford, Yale and no mentions for Canadian colleges and/or universities. All the 'money' issues that people have, there's OSAP etc. but no one ever brings this up. And I agree - I liked the hiring of normal teenagers fresh out of school over hiring the models.

Xena: Warrior Princess - General Discussion
Daisy replied to David T. Cole's topic in Xena: Warrior Princess
Ohooo. Season One: Prometheus: Xena and Hercules having some moments, and the girls are all like - things to do, people to see while the boys look love struck behind them. Hooves + Harlots: Ephany (love), and the setting up that Gabrielle will always have a family who will love/accept and want her but in a sense - Xena only really has Gabrielle (and her mother) but she always has a sense that she's not good enough for either of them. The Greater Good/Calisto: (Xena's first 'death' Gabrielle's determination to get her to be buried next to Lycus as well as, well. Callisto). Is there a Doctor in the House: hi Ephany again! - and the exclamination point that Gabrielle means something to Xena (BFF at this point I feel... man - we had so many discussions on this at TWOP). Season Two: Orphan of War: i always loved the whole "Xena's history" episodes, and the fact that she had a son mind blown. Destiny: Xena dies (for real this time), but we get to see what put her on the path of vindictive evilness. (the end where we see M'Lia die and Evil Xena be born gives me chills all the time). Day in the Life: obvi. The Price: the first glimpse that Gabrielle gets to see Evil Xena.... (her (Xena's) speech is so epic. slow and seductive, into a rousing course of.... KILL THEM ALL! KILL THEM ALL! KILL THEM ALL!). Season Three Been there done that: hehe The Deliever through to The Debt + Maternal Instincts: I always found it so interesting that a lot of people didn't like "the Rift" - I rather enjoyed it (but then I am one of those few that don't like Gabrielle. At all. I have some of my favourite Gabrielle episodes, but i couldn't stand her). but Basically from Xena - shoving aside everyone to get at Caeser (ergo: missing the obvi. signs that the Dahak guy was shifty) Gabrielle killing and being Fire-Raped, to having a baby, losing her baby, Xena finding out that Lau Ma was dead, being betrayed by Gabrielle (because Gabrielle was uber-jealous - (I always felt as well as some others that between Gabrielle's hope-the Debt that this is where Xena + Gabrielle were intimate-ish). cultimating into Gabby's lie and Solon's death. Boooo. (and so very very good). (I do not though, like Bitter Suite. Or i would have liked it if we had had some more episodes with Xena and Gabrielle apart. Also - it emphasizes the fact that Xena had zero to turn to - while Gabrielle had the Amazons...and her parents had she chosen to go back to her family) One against an Army. When in Rome: I think Steven L Sears is one of my favourite writers, and I think all of his (historical) stories had this perfect blend to what the show was actually wink-wink/nudge-nudging about: Xena did everything, but she was cut out (Hence Gabrielle's stories, telling 'the truth').This one focused on Gabrielle - but i love how she made decisions and judgements and how she decided that Crasus should be killed (by refusing to give the ring back to him). there were some great season six episodes as well - (whose Gurkhan? the Rheingold triology, Dangerous Prey, Helicon and Back, Fates collide.). love xena lol Sacrifice: Gabrielle's Dead! (i think everyone's mouth was like. they killed her?) Season 4 A Good Day: I love all the Roman storylines for the most part. Locked up + Tied Down: Crusader/Convert: I don't know why I love this episode so much - or why I liked Najara so much. She was very interesting. Like... who is the jin? Is she crazy? or there's really much a jin? This one was a thinker episode = and I added Convert there too because it brings up everything. back again, as well as - Joxers first kill. You're reminded again that Joxer is full of poop, but when he's not utalised for comic relief, he's very easily someone you could love and root/cheer for. It pissed me off that he never got as much serious as he did comedy (which annoyed me). Past Imperfect: (another Xena's history. and it was so sad). Endgame-Ides of March: I would have been 100 percent happy, and okay had the season ended here. Season 5: Seeds of Faith God Fearing Child: this was so awesome. (and as someone who liked Hercules a lot, this was an amazing way to end that series for me as well). Amphipolis under Seige: first time we see Athena, (who is very much Xena-esque). Antony and Cleopatra -
Xena: Warrior Princess - General Discussion
Daisy replied to David T. Cole's topic in Xena: Warrior Princess
I love Xena - I usually do a re-watch every year - i love just seeing it turn from this Camp-y show to a serious drahmah. hmmmm. it's awesome. -
As "duh" as this may seem, her death probably threw things into flux a lot. I know that there is still a lot of debate if Andrews really wrote Garden of Shadows. It's written very much in Andrew's voice, but there are some things in there that makes you go ... hmm.... was this ghost written? Was this one of the books that Andrews had almost completed but died, so the ghostwriter just finished it? And the reason why i bring that one up - is that Olivia's story in Garden of shadows pretty much becomes part of the "Paint by Numbers" we have now. (ie: 12 year old story, 16 year old story, Adult Story, Kid Story, Grandma). But like you said. Cathy had boys. Even though she adopted Cindy later we never hear her voice. We see Cindy through Cathy's eyes only. And she died writing Heaven and Dark Angel so who knows? I personally think we may have gotten Drake Casteel's story instead. (or Luke... or both) instead of Heaven's daughter Annie. But I like your theory - ElectricBoogalo... maybe the publisher said just write about girls. My biggest sadness was, I wish that the ghostwriter saw what the book was - and then write about what naturally made sense. In Dollanganger - knowing Olivia's story - completely solidifies why Olivia (as zealot-like as she became) fought every single inch of loving the children. Sure, you can go ehhh on the 1/2 uncle, 1/2 niece bit. Cousins get married (even 1st cousins, so why not), but then you get that hammer of. wow. that's why. And Cathy and Chris perpetuate it even further. In the Casteel series - we learn about Heaven etc - and then, pretty much we learn about Leigh through everyone's story - so in essence... why are we getting a whole book about Leigh again? We didn't learn anything new...(for me - it would have been something had another twist popped up. ie: Leigh was a lolita like type of person or she and Tony actually did fall in love etc). I personally would have much preferred to learn about JIllian. In the Cutler series - we Learn about Lillian's backstory, when everyone (I knew screamed to know about Laura Sue. who cared about Lilian). and the Landrys - we didn't even really need to learn about Pearl (Ruby's daughter), we needed to know about Grandmere Catherine. so even when we did get the grandmother story - we never got the right grandmother story. It's actually kind of funny too. I think anything after Dollanganger could very easily fit in a Lifetime Movie 2 hour constraint because the complexness of the story isn't really there. But with the Dollangangers... they really needed more time to get every nook and cranny twist in there and explain why that was so, and we're not getting it.

Since the hidden immunity idol has been in play (Survivor 11), Jeff has always said when the last day was to play it. (Which has always been Final 5. There is one part that makes me want to say that Terry (Survivor 12) and Yul (Survivor 13) could play it at Final 4, but that doesn't seem right - and regardless - that's not the point). The point is - it's not calling out the bluff, it's not pointing out that the HII is a homemade fake. But the players from Season 11 on has known the last day to play it, and it would have changed the game, because I think Spencer/Woo/Kass votes for Tony or at least force a tie. Spencer/Kass's face said it all.
