  1. I think there's quite a bit of "Music Man' mentality in Jimmy where for now, we'll use the 'think method' with little thought of a nuts and bolts plan for actual action. I'm not sure any of these ideas are going to be revolutionary--people have been building little microcosms of this idea in their homes for years. (admittedly my ability to think outside the box is limited by age and experience) OTOH it is fun to watch these young idealists be given a think tank -- it seems it is only the very wealthy who have the priveleged time and money to do this --even these kids are in that category to some extent-- but the young educated mind is a great resource if you can catch them before they are put in a cubicle so they can pay their car payments. So you never know. They themselves will likely benefit if nothing else--for various reasons--even witnessing the 'dirty' side of real estate investing. This is an interesting show all around for me. I don't think Jimmy can escape his roots from the 'dirty' business of real estate and bankers and investors. That is where his mind goes is despite the front of community and planet welfare. That idea is getting 5k'investors' though so .... Honestly some of the descriptions sound like a pleasant senior citizen community where they have activities and can walk around little ponds and take the bus into town. Medicare for health care.. where "they can pay their bills' with pensions and SS. Just throw in a farm/ranch and it sounds complete to me. Is concrete sustainable? I don't know about living in bamboo but I'd give it a whirl.
  2. Tough to watch all the way through ep. because of the impending goat slaughter. Not really problem with the idea, Jus.t not my thing to watch. So kept FF'ding when probably didnt need to. Interesting how we don't get much of the story when people leave. The staff member who was apparently fired in Ep1 or 2--then then the recreation girl Paige leaving after a hike. Not sure if she was tired of the wet conditions and hikes to probably more of nowhere, or if the staff guy made her feel inadequate somehow because of her hip problem, but I'm pretty sure there are No Refunds. Allergy girl--hasta la vista sweetie. You can't expect to be catered to in this setting. I get that you felt that you were not 'supported' but it was a need that did set you apart from the others. This isn't the place where they must accommodate your special needs AND coddle your feelings. I know you likely grew up where everyone was mainstreamed, accommodated, and big sensitivity to making sure you didn't feel different but it's not always that way in the big wide world. Almost thought I was wrong about Jimmy not being around much but then I realized "the press' was there so he needed to make his pitch. I get the impression that he and that main guy are getting cockier by the minute-- more and more seeing these idealistic young kids as just dumb suckers who will pay a lot to get very little--so pile them in-- and they will stop attending much to the 'education' and brainstorming element and see them all as just dollar bills. This is one sweet pile they stepped in. All good points. enjoyed your post. True--doesn't seem the charleston model makes sense unless they are going to cram these houses in. Who wants to look at a blank wall with all that space.
  3. If I was paying 5 grand for 10 weeks i.e. 500 bucks a week--and sleeping in a hammock under some leaves--I would want a decent amount of food. IIRC they listed their expenses in a way that these other things were the priorities, and well, what's left over is the food budget. Ummm..that doesn't work for me. Lose some staff, actually--stop inflating your costs...whatever. It doesn't matter what else they need to spend on, food should be a priority. It's a huge red flag that (well of course) they are being bilked. I don't blame any of the participants for going--it's an adventure. But it sounds as though ol' Jimmy realized these interns are a great cash cow to finance this land venture. If something actually comes of it-- not with any help from him obviously, then fine. but meanwhile Jimmy can jet around on their dimes high and dry. He tries hard to project that he believes his own bullshit for this idea, but as someone pointed out above, he can barely stand to be near the place.
  4. That choreography was a shame. Especially compared to some of the great choreo we had tonight. She is such a great dancer but none of her choregraphy has showcased her very well. I missed Nick's dance but he is really handsome without the facial hair. I never thought he was much in the looks dept. before this. I was shocked at how well Nancy K did. I had to give it to her even though I'm not a fan. She needs to lighten up. Gawd..all that plotzing and misery. Almost makes me miss Kate (plus 8.)
  5. LOL missed that one.. but my fave was during a bit of a male pissing contest on XL Jake said in his TH that the guy is probably intimidated by him because well.... (glancing back from his package with a knowing look)
  6. I don't remember Sally. I do recall his partner was pretty weak and had a negative attitude for the better part of the challenge--so thinking it's not her. Which one was Sally? Jake did have to medivac on his XL IIRC so maybe it is him!
  7. I can't think of any other incidences other than the Adam/Carole thing where Lu had an opinion on another's sexual behavior unless pushed ( as on the reunion telling B she was dating a married man) I'd like to take it to past episodes. Someone also asked why B hates Lu so much and I think I recall how they first met up and got off on the wrong foot there. Also the issue about the Beth/Jill fight where Lu somehow got in the middle. That is a murky incident where Jill claiming some behind the scenes stuff--IDK. I have Direct Tv and it seems to me my only re-runs are Atlanta (which I hate). I don't recall the recent run of an old season of NY--maybe I missed it . I think it's odd that I wouldn't catch it--unless it was just one day, and would think it very strange if DTV does different programming than Comcast. Anyway--would like revisit and hear opinions and recollections -- will see if something can get started in past episodes thread.
  8. I enjoyed their ep. too. Were they both single? They looked like a couple by the end. Honora.. was she the one who tore up the guys' camp on XL? Curious why you say she will be the "Honora" ? So far it looks like Lacey is the bitch. I don't recall Amber's personality from her eps. Great call about Laura and EJ on the raft. I think you're right. Those two can't seem to get enough of this, and they are fun to watch. I wish Jake the gay horse trainer would return--he kicked ass and was funny too. I remember him from "the Alaska Experiment". I don't have a problem with survival school teachers here as opposed to the ones we've seen on "Alone". I think it was Gabrielle who said it's not so much the skills but one's ability to deal with the 'suck' factor. Most of the self-promoters there didn't seem to have it, probably because that was their main motivation to show their skills off and then skedaddle. Also there is the 'alone' factor that cannot be discounted. I like the XL so much more than the regular show, but of course part of that is being familiar with the players before the XL. It's fun to see how they mix and more personalities to watch. IIRC they allowed them more gear this season--the bow and arrow, throw net etc. I do like that addition because it is more fun to see them possibly thrive. So far it appears Shannon is quiet and taking a bit of a back seat to her teammates so it will be interesting to see her personality when she is with more competent men.
  9. Yeah--I didn't realize that myself. but I'm glad at least that I can review the players and their episodes. Shannon the stone mason 'ballcrusher' is back. She is teamed up with two pretty capable men so it might go better this time unless she starts getting bossy and critical again. She is the one personality I remember the most as her episode was recent. If I recall, I liked the other three women on their episodes.
  10. I just noticed XL is starting tonight. I haven't been as into the regular N&A this season so I hope I know these people. I do enjoy the XL's far more than the regular season--I like the way they group them and then the interaction when they become one group.
  11. I noticed that are TH's are a lot softer in tone this year. (at least in this episode I noticed it.) There's a little sparkle in her eyes. My thoughts are that she's sitting across from an attractive male producer or whoever does that with them--she seems almost charming. It's odd. (II said almost.. I'm not a fan.
  12. Ohhh yes... that's right! Forgot about that. I recall Lu having a hard time masking a bit of delight. I'm sure it sounded better in french, but thankfully LuAnn could translate thoroughly so that there would be no confusion that the 'other woman' in the picture was not Avery.
  13. Thanks! I cannot access it-- it may need more time to download. But curious to see it again.
  14. I'm a big LuAnn fan. But one of the incidents her detractors cite was in an early season when Ramona was explaining to Lu that she had advised Bethenny to just go out and date a lot--date lots of different men (because this is what Ramona did in her single days) IIRC Lu got all haughty and naughty about the idea. I hope I'm recalling the event correctly that many feel showed a lot of hypocrisy in LuAnn because she indeed, has notches on her bedpost . ( I hope I'm expressing their argument correctly) But this is where I see that whole incident differently. First--just to say that Lu's teen daughter Victoria was there. And..I believe in Lu's mind (because Lu does enjoy a good romp) she may interpret 'dating around' a little more broadly. So with that mindset I think she was projecting a very sanctimonious view about it for the sake of her young daughter (which I agree with. I believe it's always a good idea to pretend you're the Virgin Mary to your budding teen until they well, don't believe it anymore) And-- like I said I think LuAnn probably doesn't think of dating generally as a 'kiss goodnight at the door' activity , which I think is what Ramona meant. So it seems somehow ironic or contrary or something.. but if you do assume your dates are going to end up in the sack, then yes--for heavens' sake keep it to one guy --(not counting out-of-the circle run-ins and any out-of-towners of course.) For Lu I think it's the old-school reputation idea. No shame in doing it--the shame is allowing yourself to be stupid --stupid enough to get a reputation. During that conversation Ramona said LuAnn's husband was "old.". She said it in front of Victoria too-- and LuAnn reamed her. Not sure if lLuAnn's put down of Ramona's dating idea came after that or not. But it was rude and insulting and Lu was pissed. I don't think acting 'coy' or keeping your sexual activity on the down-low is hypocritical. She has a "lady-like" code. Perhaps a lady does not show off her hickeys. She does not brandish her sex toys. When possible, she takes her indiscretions out of town. If one has a 'friends with benefits' agreement, you don't speak of this. If people think you're 'missionary mary' that's even better. Lu's would likely never deny that her mattress mileage could put the others to shame but it's nobody's business. One has nothing to do with the other. I don't see Lu pearl-clutching at Sonja's behaviour (more than anyone else) and I don't hear Bethy screaming at Sonja that she's a slut and a whore. Putting it all on display is a personal choice and so is keeping it on the down-low. One is not automatically a judgement or commentary of the other and I don't see it as hypocritical.
  15. Then Ramona, in her TH exalts her rude dismissive attitude by saying "I didn't remember her--I meet a lot of people" "Soorrrry Gigi!" I wished they had given Gigi her own TH telling Ramona not to flatter herself..that she 'took one for the team' in going out there for a 'pity greet' to nutso Ramona, and couldn't give a rats-ass less. No..but the party was to introduce Tinsley. So you say hello and ask a simple question.."Are you glad to be back in NY"--Or "I hear you're going to be staying with Sonja"--whatever. You feign some interest. It's obvious Bethy is there only under obligation to make an appearance-- and she did. We all do know by now that unless the segment is all about Beth that it's only fodder for ridicule, snipes and put-downs. Even if Tinsley should know this by now, it's still notably self-absorbed behaviour and poor manners. It seems little to ask of someone who has so much.
  16. Has anyone seen Jungletown? It's on Vice channel. There's no forum for it -- and not a general OT category here so posting it on this thread. Some guy (named Jimmy btw- a little creepy yes) wanting to build a self-sustainable town in the Panamanian jungle. Has some paid staff and interns (ages 18-24) that he charges 5 grand for a 10 week "semester' to brainstorm build etc. It is a docu-series. I think Jimmy has a little con-artist in him--vs. then the idealism of the project and the youth... kinda interesting.
  17. I went back to take a look. My guess is that she had eyelash extentions and also may have had them dyed. She also appears to have eyeliner --apparently tattood on. And--quite possible her brows were tattood as well.
  18. Carole was so pretty as a teen !But that's youth for you. I don't blame anyone over a certain age for getting a little help, and I'm a bit surprised that people still wonder (or care) if there's even botox at work. To me it's becoming like coloring one's hair or getting braces. I think getting wrinkled and saggy and heavy, sleepy eyes is worse (for my choice, anyway) so if you can afford it--by all means go for it. I see no shame in it *at all*. (and there's *alot* of cosmetic enhancement shaming out there--even tho signs of aging or being average or just plain not pretty is practically a disgrace and an affront to our senses nowadays. There's no winning. That said, I do think Carole looks different and not just older. The cheekbones are bigger and her face looks a bit frozen--but I think she looks pretty good overall. Good for her. Only she knows what lies beneath and if this is an improvement--and I bet it is-- then good
  19. Maybe i went into a sugar-coma at TC time but I'm finding them a little confusing lately. I was sure Sandra was going to rip Tai--tales of flipping and big mouths or whatever. She didn't. Then Tai himself exposes what a liability he is --and even calls out/.actually *whispers!*..to Sandra and Varner..and then to all.. Ozzy's name.! Now no one will convince me that they left some sort of blindside narrative in Tai's hands to put out there. he is too addle-brained to keep anything straight like that. So he appears to collude with Varner and Sandra..then full-on calls out Ozzy................................but somehow he doesn't think he needs to play an idol after that and he doesn't. And they indeed vote Sandra. I'm assuming TC went on for awhile and the editing is getting sloppier and less cohesive. Unless I missed something it made little sense to me. I am open to whatever I mighta missed in that if someone can make sense of it for me. And by the way Tai just annoys the hell out of me anyway.
  20. I'm no fan of Carole, but maybe I'm softening a bit. She does admit that her relationship is what it is for today--not a fairy tale romance but it fills a need for now. I dated a younger guy for a short bit and although he played drums on the dashboard of my car, he brought me coffee in bed so I dealt with it as long as possible. As for her plastic surgery --I'm a woman in my 60's now and I'm considering a little "updating'. It's between a rock and a hard place because the signs of cosmetic surgery does--in it's own way--betray one's aging. I spent much of this episode pausing and staring at their faces trying to see exactly what I was seeing. I enjoyed looking at Dorinda's face for its (I'm supposing) authenticity. A real face is so rare now. it's actually fascinating. I don't think Carole's surgery is about keeping Adam. Some people age with a beauty. I'm not in that category and either is Carole. There is 'ugly old' and I'd like to not deal with that. Even if people can tell I've had some work they're not going to see my 'Dorian Gray' side, so I'm okay with it. The sun sets regardless.
  21. I apologize for this but I seriously thought Prince Albert was (only) in a can.
  22. Sonja's show sounds like THE most disgusting and gross --pathetic "being a slob is the only angle I have left" display. I used to feel a bit sorry for her thinking perhaps her financial downfall caused delusions but she is a pig--point blank. And Andy and Bravo--hang that $$ carrot lower and lower and they continue to get on their knees with their tongues out convincing themselves it's fine and not totally degrading to one's humanity. Even barnyard animals have a sense of dignity. (My apologies to pigs -- I meant it in the human, slop-wallowing hog sense.) Ramona apparently got nothing this season except phony "dates' and Tom and Lu. . I'm surprised Lu didn't remind and thank Ramona --in the kindest sense of course-- about her own years of denial with her philandering husband Mario and how they were there for her own humiliation--especially since Ramona was so self-righteous and superior about her great marriage,. What @Sun-Bun said above re Luann's marriage are my thoughts exactly. She knows who he is. It's getting late. Let's travel and drink champagne.
  23. I enjoyed seeing Cochran--It was a 'no harm/no foul' choice better than any of the three "R"s many feared would return. But hey-- I'm thanking the Lord above that it wasn't one of Debbie's relatives! So yeah--I'll take Cochran.
  24. I'll take my response also to past seasons.,,,after the show--if there's time! Should be a crazy show tonight...
  25. wow--that is some amount of memory! Didn't they end up picking rocks and Paschall went--or was that Australia with the other spring/december friendship? Yes I suppose someone makes a huge move--or a stupid one and it turns that game upside down. I think that's harder to call, because that *is* the game and usually done to save your own ass or better position for the final-but I see the other side of the 'game-changers' idea as who made the moves that season. I would say JT should fit in that by giving opposing tribe an Idol. Colton gave up his whole tribe's immunity! But again those are some 'first time ever done' things. I think if we liked the persons it affected it would be a better memory. Mentioning Jerri brought back memories. I really miss the game when people got voted out just for being obnoxious and they cared less about goats and such when they got rid of her bossy ass in S2 Australia.
