  1. Courtesy Grant Brisbee, my new favorite baseball writer, despite who his team is:
  2. Right before he appeared on the SATC ep today, I went, "Oh my gosh; Charles is David!!" -- the good-looking son of one of the women at the synagogue who strikes out with Charlotte just before Harry proposes. He has aged well, but dayum! he was always pretty.
  3. So Diana and Charles had a couple of slammin' rants that made me happy. Tonight I was going to write a sweet little paeon of praise to Kelsey, the Doctor BF, and New Guy -- as in: "Look!! Millennials I like! Who are charming and respectful and have some integrity!!" Then Kelsey shut the tram door on Roosevelt Island (like she should have done on married Bjorn Bjorn after *their* first time). And Bryce suggested the Gatsby rewrite (and I don't even like that book). So maybe I need another week.
  4. oops I'd like to make a formal request* that the MLB, NFL, & NHL threads be merged, solely for my benefit,as I appear to be unable to differentiate these before I hit "post" on a brilliant observation re: ARod...here in the football thread!! *I keed, I keed.
  5. Diana got some! Diana got some!! And he was hot. Okay. Because they went to a place that "even" SATC didn't visit, I may as well two-cents it. What was shockingly *not* mentioned is the real reason some women enjoy it: Orgasm relieves menstrual cramps. You're welcome.
  6. Now I Remember: Michael's mom taught the cooking extension course that Monica excelled at in Friends.
  7. Bleah. I feel...done with this show. When it looked like Michael was going to live, but the bullet was near his spine, I thought, Okay -- that's how they're going to keep Jane a virgin this season. This could work! But if the preview for next week was any indication, he bounces right back. Walking already?? unless it was meant to be a flashback, it looks like there was no point to this shooting. I'm so over bullshit cliffhanger season-enders. I'm Team Rafael all the way. I find Michael not at all attractive. And if they're not going there, I'm already bored.
  8. Nathan looks younger and thinner, and like he was having a good time. I appreciate the injection of energy, but him & Haley? kind of squicks me out.
  9. That "cradle" bit between Liza & Diana might be the sweetest moment on this show so far. Just loved it. And I was glad to see Liza with her "old world" friends, there at the end. Makes me feel like she's starting to reconcile those worlds.
  10. He can think whatever he likes. But that whole "You stink" speech to Diana was rude and unnecessary. He is doing nothing but confirming what people that age think of people his age. I thought immediately of one of my favorite movie lines (from The Sting): "Sit down! And try not to live up to all my expectations." At least Diana showed restraint by waiting a few hours before the termite comeback. Edited to add: Slightly cranky when I wrote this earlier (no kidding, rally!), and I need to amend my earlier statement with something I truly believe: That is, that no matter your age/sex/affiliation, it can be a tedious bore to conform to stereotype. That's the reason I despise women who wear sports team regalia because they "look good in that color."
  11. Oh, Christ! Between the Silicon Valley virgin calling Charles & Diana "dinosaurs", and the party of hipsters Modern Family's Hayley threw at her Dad's Open House, I despair, as an over-40-something, EVER EVER finding another job. Dear Show: Please let Diana have the idea that rescues Empirical. And then let her hose down that rude douchedork with a barrel full of Givenchy.
  12. Two years and two World Series? Two pennants and one ring? And then, in 2016: down goes the 3rd baseman, the left fielder, the centerfielder, the 4th pitcher, the 5th pitcher, the set-up guy, the closer... So the day we call "Mathematically" finally did come, and on the postgame show, I phoned in to say, "I call this: 'What would I give?' "What Would I Give, at the top of the 8th, during the Miracle at Minute Maid, when a ball off the bat of Kendrys Morales bounces under Carlos Correa's glove, causing Matt Vasgersian to exclaim, 'Kansas City has tied it in the 8th!!'*? "And What Would I Give, at the top of the 9th, Game 6, runners on 2nd & 3rd, 2 outs, when Wade Davis faces down Josh Donaldson? "And What Would I Give, at the bottom of the 9th, down 4-3, when Alex Gordon takes Jeurys Familia yard? "And What Would I Give, at the top of the 9th, when Eric Hosmer breaks for home as Salvador Perez is thrown out at 1st? "What Would I Give? Why, I give 2016, and I give it with both hands." Have a great off-season, my darling boys of summer. *my ring tone
  13. Cheered the drunken Diana sl...and that wedding dress out the window was exactly right. I've done...well, not that, but similar. Loved Liza shoving the "4th square" in her mouth. Have been through my share of corporate character-building bullshit, and I'm only sorry I never thought of resorting to that! Genius. And of course she can't have The Talk with Charles. The show has to do some ridiculous wanking to keep them apart. I get it. I don't like it, but I get it. And yes: Team Charles all the way!!
  14. What hideous, heartbreaking news to wake up to. He had such an inspiring story for such a young man. My thoughts & prayers are with his family.
  15. Seems like the THs on ESPN & the NFL are newly educated on this whole freedom of speech/1st Amendment thing, and I'm happy for them. Maybe going forward they'll stop being selective in their application of this defense. Free speech doesn't just apply to speech that you agree with.
  16. Christ. Bullpen giving up four in the 8th. *That's* a little thing I call, "Barfing without stopping".
  17. Mmmmm... That 8-run top of the 6th in Fenway tonight was a little thing I like to call, "Kiss on the lips with tongue".
  18. So during tonight's KC/Miami game, one of the Royals' beat writers tweeted a reference to Matt Christopher*. And I loved it! When I was a kid, I probably blew through 20 of his books in less than a month. My favorite? "The Year Mom Won the Pennant" -- because in those days, it was the only one of his stories where The Girl was the hero. * Our rookie 2B, Mondesi, was flying around 3rd, and as usual with this guy, his helmet blew right off. So the writer said it was like a Matt Christopher book: "The Kid Who Couldn't Keep His Helmet On".
  19. All hail Rally Mantis! ETA: crap!! I should have never introduced him!!! *sobs* He gave his life for a victory.... [runs off to weep in private & knit the "Mickey 'Rally' Mantis" Memorial Patch for the KC unis]
  20. Clap for the Duffman!! Yay for Danny Duffy, and those 16 Ks, and the 35(6?) swings & misses that ties with Kershaw...and for being your surfer-dude self, no matter what. There's a mug that that interview inspired ("It's a bear suit, Joel"), and I've got it, and it could be my favorite fan thing ever.
  21. I've been looking for an ESPYs thread, to no avail. So I just wanted to say, Yay Eric Berry!! You are the Comeback Player of Kansas City, the NFL, the ESPYs, and my heart. I bawled through the intro, his speech, all of it. What a man, what a man, what a man, what a mightymightygood man....
  22. Am I the only fan of Crown for Christmas?? I mean; come. ON!! Rupert Penry-Jones as the King???? He elevates the cliches (or makes me not care that they're there), & I like his chem with Danica McK & the actress who plays his daughter. And his last line?? ("You had me at 'sewing kit'!") *swoon*
  23. So very proud of my boys! And Kelvin, with that 1-2-3 inning...pretty sure as Herrera left the mound, Joe Buck said, "The bullpen is on for the Royals!" Indeed. *grins hugely* The only sad thing is that Cyborg wasn't there to close it out. Maybe Hoz'll let him drive the MVP truck around the Plaza.
