I don't have a problem with it. It's really 2 days off. One to travel/rest, and then one to rest/practice. Plus, you have to factor in the Stanley Cup Finals. While that gives the viewers 2 days of sports, and one day off before another 2 days (when necessary), I'm fine with it given the fact that we're heading into a 2-month period of no sports* before football gets going away. There used to be some structure with the NBA finals. No Monday or Saturday games, always Sundays, and everything else based on the network that had them. I believe it was Tuesday/Thursdays for ABC & CBS, and Wednesday/Friday for NBC. However, these were done with a 2-3-2 format. Now with 2-2-1-1-1 it's unique based on how many consecutive games & then travel. I guess the NBA Finals starting on Thursday instead of Friday didn't kill anyone, but I still do understand the frustration

It's 2-2-1-1-1 (tenth season in a row for it)

For me, it was no surprise that Miami would come back. They never gave up in Game 1 as the team that had played a game 3 days prior & 4 since Denver swept. Game 1 was too much to handle, and the Heat were down a lot more than 11. They've faced a lot of great teams in the East & persevered, plus the coaching & some of the experience is, IMO, slightly better. Not the talent, but people like Riley, Spoelstra, Butler, Love, Lowry, etc have been part of this highest level of play in the NBA. Helps to have a great culture especially with several undrafted people on the team. That being said, I don't think Miami will win the series. However, I can see it & believe it if the Heat do happen to knock off the Nuggets. Helps to have home court advantage now. Though really it helps that the Heat won Game 2 since Denver is more than capable of winning (at least) one game in South Beach. If there is a split in Miami, I'm not going to say that Miami is on life support again since I think 2-2 leads to Denver winning big in Game 5, Miami surviving in Game 6, and a true winner-take-all after that. Yep, I'm definitely not that guy saying must-win both games at home, but it does help to do so! I actually thought Murray's shot was going in. A 3 was needed to achieve a tie at best, but to be fair, they were fortunate to get to that point. From a 3 pointer to get to within 3, followed by a couple Heat clutch FF, then another Nuggets basket, before a stop to get one more chance. Good on Miami for not fouling up 3. That might've given Denver the chance at an outright regulation win. If it sounds stupid, then that makes 2 of us. Though there are a lot of things that make me stupid. I'm glad it's tied since I hardly think either team is winning 3 straight (4 for Miami). I don't know if I'd love to see a buzzer beater to end Game 7. That would be great. Except I'm getting Breen on the call over Harlan. However, I don't know if I'd love to see it since one of these 2 teams would be the victim of a painful series loss. I imagine afterwards, cooler heads would prevail & you'll see post series respect from both sides. Sorta like the 2016 Tournament Final to cap off the Final Four 7 years ago. IMO, the best ending would be a competitive Game 7 but then the eventual winning pulls away at the end to win by 4 or 5

Norma Hunt, Age 85, wife of the late Kansas City Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt. I never gave it a thought that she had attended all 57 Super Bowl. Mrs. Hunt was one of about 4 to do so, and the only women to achieve that mark. Probably not a surprise when I think about it. Nice that the last NFL game she saw was of her team winning (one of) the most important game(s) in sports back in February.

To be fair to Miami, they're pretty good at home. Not factoring in Scott Foster + 0.1 seconds, they're unbeatable at home too. Furthermore, Denver will be travelling East & playing in a different time zone. In addition, Games 3 & 4 is the only segment of the finals were there is only one day off between games. Maybe that helps the Heat; maybe not. Denver is undefeated at home, but not all of the games have been blowouts. I think it would help the Heat try to steal one on the road; while they'll be fine at home, Denver is more than capable of stealing one in South Beach to offset the possibility of Miami earning homecourt with a win tonight

With the talk of "storybook" stuff in the world of golf (from 2 weeks ago), it would be rather nice if Rory won today. The goat once mentioned McIlroy as the future face of the sport, I think, about 12 years ago. A post-round handshake would, IMO, be pretty iconic. Outside of that green jacket, not winning the Memorial would be a missing segment in the story of the PGA Tour. Come to think of it, there might be some surprise that Rory hasn't won the event. OTOH, it's not a shocker since McIlroy tends to peak after that period while sorta struggling before it. His surge over the past couple of days landed him in the final pairing with Si Woo Kim & part of a 3-way tie that includes David Lipsky

Maybe I'm boasting a little, but I think they still would've found a way to win in 1979 if the current FA rules existed at that time. While a QB is needed in a sport, nobody's winning a lot without a great coach & awesome culture

Looks like former Lakers HC Frank Vogel succeeding Monty Williams as Phoenix Suns HC

I wouldn't be surprised if they booted him for all of 2023-2024. I think I definitely agree that it's at least for the remainder of this calendar year; while 82-112 games might seem like it's a lot, it might take "a lot" for the guy to get the message & hold onto it

I would hope not, especially after having nine days off which started before the East champs had a chance at 8 days. Instead they travelled 3 times back and forth to the same cities, and they're no longer undefeated in the opening game of the series. That being said, all things equal, I still think Denver would've won Game 1. It is also possible that the West Champs win each of the next 3 games, but I think it's too early to think it'll be a quick series. Especially with a couple home games on the other side of the country, and we'll see how Herro's return makes a difference

Well, I wasn't supposed to watch these NBA Finals due to my earlier decision to stop watching. Except I inadvertently saw the score from Monday's game, and that led to me changing my mind (obviously). That's a great thing. While I think Denver will win (in Six) anything can happen. It's great & refreshing to see a couple stars in Jokic & Butler where I don't have to root against either one. Really the only thing I'm rooting against is a quick/ugly series. Miami has come a long way & are capable of beating anyone. No way Denver loses both of their first 2 games, but I actually think the matchup here is not too much for Miami to handle
-
We'll see. On the NBA front, no surprise that Denver is favored. It's by nine over Miami for Game One, where the over/under is 219. For the series, the Heat's chances to win are about 3.5 to 1. Of course, that's subject to change as the series plays out

100%. It's not even just the coaches; it's the culture. The Jets culture? Thanks but no thanks. The Steelers culture? Sure they've had some criticism recently & it's not as great as in the past. However, it's still tremendous, and that makes a big difference
-
It was just a matter of time before someone picked them off for starting off slow
-
Couldn't agree more. I mean, I guess this series was supposed to go 7 games. However, I figured that Miami would've been the one forcing it, after a back & forth series. The way this went down was just so bizarre
-
Even if it goes 5, I hope it at least looks competitive

I'm not a Boston fan, but that sucks. If they persevere in the aftermath, they would've earned it. BTW, Boston gets homecourt over Denver due to a better record (or a tie + head to head or other tiebreakers; both teams split BTW) Anyway, the final thing I'll say is that consequences are part of sports (and life really) so maybe don't boot a proven person. I've seen teams in all of sports die away for getting rid of a leader, because they were unable to recover. Philly had to make a change, but I don't think Phoenix needed to; Milwaukee didn't need to but it's no surprise. A valid reason nobody from the collegiate level is running to the pros
-
Maybe Denver can lie down & lose 3, before going on a 4 game winning streak. That would actually be awesome if that happened. Better record. FWIW, whoever wins the title (Miami, Boston, and Denver) would have beaten a team that fired its head coach in the aftermath. Man, sometimes the owners of the NBA suck

To be honest, the only comparison is the fact that they're from the same area. The Red Sox were the underdogs (though the Yankees/BoSox were closer in skill than Heat/Celtics). The Red Sox beat the defending league champions AND won both of their last two games on the road. Furthermore, New York has a ton more titles than Boston in MLB. Finally, the Yankees knocked off the Red Sox the year before in seventh game of the ALCS. Someone will opt out of keeping quiet if the Celtics win, before saying this is David beating Goliath. Um, no! The Celtics are the defending East champions, AND they beat Miami previously. Unlike the '04 BoSox, this Celtics team is much, much better than the Heat. TBH, Miami should've won Game six, but lost Game 2. We'd be in the same spot & it would be tremendous. Finally, the Celtics had more than a dozen more titles than Miami. At the end of the day, the comparison is NOT 2004 ALCS; it's Super Bowl 51

I know Scott Foster isn't really beloved, but I'd take him as the crew-chief than having Eric Lewis anywhere near this series. Things don't favor Miami when Foster officiates and that's too bad for them, but Lewis involved would have been worse. And bad for business. As for the BoSox, I'm with mojoween about the hope that they'll forever stop talking about it, but I also don't agree that they will. It's not going to matter if Denver wins the NBA Finals, and I don't think they will unless Miami wins tonight. However, the Celtics have to win the finals or else while history is just that, it'll be sorta meaningless. BTW, if they win, I'm not sure if I'll be more upset over a 4-game sweep or if they do nothing until they're facing elimination. I think definitely the latter. One of these days, they'll be in that situation where they'll be down 3-1 or 3-2 and have to rally, but instead it's against a team that has a better record.

FYI: Here are the teams that were in the minority when it came to the recent votes for the Thursday Night Football Flex as well as the fair catch rule: TNF Vote (Losing End): Giants, Jets, Packers, Bears, Raiders, Lions, Bengals and Steelers 25 Yard Start Vote (Losing End): Ravens, Patriots, Bengals, Bears and Lions Las Vegas abstained on the second one, which passed 26-5-1. The Raiders did not vote yes on either vote, nor did Chicago, Cincinnati, and Detroit (those 3 voted no twice). As mentioned, it's wait & see. For the TNF flex, those 8 teams that voted against it would have a valid reason to complain if New Orleans and Los Angeles got flexed out of TNF, but other than that, there really isn't too much to complain about. I'd rather it happen this year so that the chances of it being done forever are on the ASAP level. I still don't have a problem with the kickoff rule right now. Most people can kick it out of the endzone. Some might be skilled not to, and some can't (including Pittsburgh who I guess will catch a break with this rule change). While we're at least a year or two away from doing away with kickoffs, that would be my biggest issue down the road. The biggest example is 4th & 15 replacing the onside kick. I might not like it, but it'll depend on how a penalty is enforced. If the defense makes a stop, but they get called for holding, if the offensive team gets 1st & 10, that would not be cool. On the other hand, if it's a do-over, then the defensive team would intentionally cause a penalty. So I could see why the league would go with 1st & 10. Hopefully the NFL will make it so that 3 penalties on a 4th & 15 try results in a first down. Or, you keep the onside kick in, but the kicking team would have to notify the officials. When the ball is caught & secure, then the play ends immediately (at that spot). No chance to run it for extra yardage. Either way, it's a long way to go with that, but while I imagine I might not like the end of kickoffs I'll adjust & adapt to it
