  1. Sadly...all the options SUCK...lol

Good thing I have 3 giant dogs to cuddle with.

There are a MILLION desperate lonely women in the US...he seriously couldnt have raised the bar one notch? Or 12?

However millions are not on the web looking at men of another faith for whom they will eventually need governmental approval to be with.

  2. Captain America The First Avenger should not have white washed America's racist history with integrated war Bond Tour audiences and Army units in Italy. All there was shown was one character being suprised by a Japanese American soldier. By making Hydra the big bad with an IQ prejudice you got little sense of Nazis being Nazis and the racial prejudice of the era which the Captain surely would have fought against at home as well as overseas

  3. I usually don't let myself get too frustrated with the characters (it's more trouble than it's worth!), but I was sooooo mad at Russell when they realized who the second shooter was and he said, all indignantly, "SWAT let this guy go!" No, Russell, SWAT did not. YOU told them to turn him loose based on Sara's observation that the shooter didn't match his description. She wasn't wrong, that was a different shooter, but it just ticked me off that he said that!

I hate that they had to go to the idiotic actions to make the plot work. Cut a civilian loose with a possible gunman and bombs still in the hotel to fend for himself without having a SWAT or follow up deputy escort him to a safe zone? A saw the twist coming a mile away, the only surprise was that they were not making a coordinated attack. Then have an unguarded CSI go to a crime scene while the building was being cleared. At least in the very first scene of the franchise the killer came back to a cleared crime scene

  4. I have a question for those of you who've done all the digging and research: Are there gigolo guys like Mo in Afghanistan? I just saw a friend post about her long-distance fiance there and i'm wondering. PM me if you know anything. Thanks.

Because The Taliban haa a worse reputation than the Muslim Brotherhood and there are safer areas of Nigeria where Boko Hareem are not really feared when Afghanis engage in this it is for money not a green card. Very few unaccompanied women will visit Afghanistan to qualify for any spousal visa so they would have to meet in a third country
  5. Danny said that he and his family, and I think Amy too(?) are Mormons

I don't remember that and in form they talk like evangelicals from choosing a venue to meeting at a Bible College in Australia. In the end seeing where they met it is almost impossible that one would be Mormon and the other Protestant.

edit to add: according to starcasm.com it was a Hillsong International Leadership College, the big Australian megachurch and CCM musical ministry

  6. Sleepy Hollow plays like Grim with famous American Revolutionaries sometimes being brought in as a back story as playing a roll in the supernatural big battle of which the American Revolutionary War was a side show. And now the big battle is back on in present day Sleepy Hollow.

  7. In my experience, a lot of times, if the intent (to look like a lynching or to reference an atrocity) isn't there in the initial brainstorming, it doesn't ping to the creators afterward.  If the goal was "Steve escapes and kills the antagonist in the process", then that's all they'll see.

The question becomes how did they choose her as the antagonist? It was. truly a could have been anyone role. How did a fugitive former Chinese agent find her to be his minion? When she first appeared, showing my age now, I thought of the Asian, White and African American torturers interrogators from the blaxpoitation era.Three The Hard Way

  8. Lieutenant Mills may not have been with Ichabod Crane yet. But look at her known history. A Hispanic ex boyfriend and an Asian co worker with a crush. Her sister had a friends with benefits relationship with the new White guy introduced as the third side of a triangle. I think Captain Irving, being from the previous generation is the only black man with a Black woman on the show.

  9. Isn't there also one once they apply for the green card?  It's not automatic that once you get married that you'll get the greencard.  You still have to apply, non?

True but as we are seeing from last years couple who have not gone through an adjustment of status yet the process can be delayed. Mohammed will just be further away from having his conditional residence restrictions removed. The big by now date is the 90 days to get the legal marriage.

  10.   The US military did not segregate Hispanic troops from white troops

The US Military only segregated African Americans with the exception of Japanese during WWII. If there was no suprise attack on Pearl Harbor the Japanese most likely would have stayed integrated into the rest of the army. Hence every WWII platoon of the movies, which were also propaganda pieces had their Hispanic or Native American character. Early in WWII someone thought it would be a good ideal to send troops of Chinese heritage  to China India Burma so about a third of the first draftees ended up there in what looked like racial segregation before the Army decided that segregating them  for the Chinese theatre war effort, sort of like Green Berets are suppose to have language skills to work with local populations, was not worth the disruptions it caused the total war effort and the later Chinese American recruits and draftees went into the general replacement pool and were as likely to be sent to France and Germany as any other soldier. With Black soldiers they accepted all disruptions until after the Battle of the Bulge when a few volunteers were accepted in what was called experimental integrated combat units.  African American was different then just a racial minority in the American racial caste system

  11. Perhaps, but OTOH Michael Scofield isn't obviously an ethnic name either, but because people know that Wentworth Miller is bi-racial it doesn't really have to be. Obviously Prison Break was a very different kind of show than Saved By The Bell, but maybe the same logic kind of applies.

I had no ideal that he was until after his show was a hit and the Black media trumpeted him as one of us. Sort of like when Mariah Carey first hit she was a pop singer who identified her father as Brazilian and after her divorce she came out as Black and was featured in Black themed magazines
  12. Thanks for all the links!  I finally found someone better at Googling people than myself.  I consider it a hobby of mine! haha

Question, I noticed Daya's name was awfully close to Aya from last season.  Wonder if Aya gave herself that name too?

Since just about every Filipino family has a Maria as one or more of their daughters, most of those girls have to go by another name and many if not most Filipinos in general are known by a nickname or a just a title, "ate" or big sister, and "kuya" or big brother being the most common.Seeing the exposed pictures of Daya she would also be an ate in most situations. Daya itself would  be an odd name to choose, she would have spent her childhood being teased about it. Aya, is not uncommon.

I am surprised the TLC cameras have not caught either Aya or Daya calling their husbands dad or daddy as that would be the normal form of address for a bethrothed or mate.

  13. Did Brett and Daya ever state they were waiting until marriage to have sex?

from Daya's side, she wouldn't have to, Even if the Filipino single motherhood rate is near that of America's the default assumption is that she will be a virgin. Only a third trimester pregnancy or a baby in the face of others will break the polite assumption.

  14.

And I agree with others upthread that Amy is getting into a Fundie Lite situation.  The snickers and the fact that the wedding night question was asked at all makes me think so.  Same with the giant gathering of people, etc.  It's just a shame that things were so not thought out, but again, that seems to be the norm with Fundie Lite groups, who seem to fly by the seat of their pants frequently.

Didn't they say that they met at some Christian function in Australia? I would not say she was getting into some sort of situation but rather that is where she also came from like the Mormon couple from season one.

  15. To me, having a six year old serve as a chaperone is completely inappropriate (Looking at you, Duggar Family.) - just as inappropriate as having the kid share a bed with two unmarried adults (one of whom is a total stranger). If that's one of Brett's reasons for the arrangement, then he is more of a weirdo than I first thought.

Perhaps the adults would not need a chaperone if they didn't sleep in the same bed.

the chaperone is not there to physically step in the tradition is for the public perception of what is happening or specifically not happening because you are not alone. Older chaperones are easier to ditch but still the tradition persists

Other couples on the show reacted by proclaiming their faith and saying there will be no pre marital sex. Brett and Daya have his daughter to stand in as a culturally appropriate shield for her reputation

  16. OK, this is starting to sound like someone's weird fantasy, that's being posted to boost interest in the show. If you want to post links, that's fine, but I really think this has nothing to do with the show. Leave all the text out and let others read it if they are interested. Thanks.

It sounds like the how we met testimonials on Visa Journey and the other spousal visa sites. The show does have some fake but real people of different cultures are really marrying.

  17. An unmarried couple sleeping in the same bed with a small child is beyond inappropriate. Why would Brett choose to bring Daya to the US while his daughter is visiting for an entire month... and leaving her alone all day with Daya??? Recipe for disaster.

Cassidy seemed like she barely knew Brett. I saw no warmth between them at all. I hope Cassidy's mom is watching this show. I'm sure she'll be horrified that her daughter is sleeping in bed with two adults and is left alone all day with a stranger. What a trainwreck.

In one cultural mindset it is inappropriate. In the other half of the family the daughter services as the chaperone for the unmarried daddy and auntie
  18. In other news, there appears to be an interracial main OTP being set up on The Flash. I don't think I've ever seen a black female in an OTP in a primetime drama on an American network (save for Scandal, which I frankly refuse to count, because that mess is all kinds of gross and dysfunctional instead of romantic). Can anyone else think of one? Not one of the sidekicks, a main couple. And not one that's already established, one where we see the relationship develop and we root for them to get together. I hope it happens here, There's fan feeling already for the guy to get together with some other characters instead. I guess we'll have to see what happens.

I don't know if "we" will want to see them together. Those who know the comics know that they put them together but the TV show made the mistake of saying they were raised in the same home as kids pulling in an eeck factor. Just like a brother when you were raised together is just like incest
