Refresh, my thoughts exactly. I was all about the three Ms. Still am. I still think Marcio should have made it through those last two song choices did him in (It's A Miracle? REALLY? I would have actually loved to hear him do Daybreak if he had to do Barry Manilow). And I am worried about him ... I think I love him even more as a person/dad (from what we've seen) than a singer and hope that he has enough fans and support now to help him through this ... his voice is beautiful and with the right people and production he could go far. But Maddie and Michael, for me, both have what it takes ... they are both unique and have terrific voices and are really likable. Going for the M&M!!!
-
IMHO Maddie SHOULD win which means she probably won't ... she is not only an amazing singer, she's unique in that as far as I can remember, they've never had a winner remotely like her (Carrie was a straight out country girl and Kelly was a belter) ... her voice is like molten gold. I believe she's actually modern and relevant and could be a HUGE star if handled right (not that they ever handle things right but ...)
-
I've been thinking that EVERY time I see him! Also ... so I'm guessing now that the contestants who go early have a HUGE advantage over those who go late other than anyone with already-ingrained superfandom. Seems unfair unless they have a foolproof method of limiting repeat votes and they won't do that because they want their vote numbers to be big. So we'll know who their favorites are very early on. Is there a judge's save for each one this year maybe?

The Looming Tower - General Discussion

And why was there no one behind him? I know it's ridiculous to think about something like that but was he like the last guy who got on the GWP? It seemed like ever shot of him after all that time there was NO ONE behind him. I know there's a CIA entrance/exit on there somewhere (I only drove it for my commute for 20 years LOL) but still ... -
Following a few of the contestants on Twitter and I gotta say Marcio won me over BIGTIME when he posted that his favorite musical is "Ragtime" and his favorite song from it is "Make Them Hear You" and how much he wanted to perform it on the show if he had the chance. As a longtime musical theatre geek, that is my absolutely favorite musical and my favorite song from a musical ... I can't necessarily see a situation where he'd get the chance, especially since it's not really a well-known song AT ALL ... but if he does it I will vote my ass off for the entire time allotted. While I was crying. I'm still bitter that Dominique Posey didn't make it through. LOVE his voice. Of the girls, my favorite is definitely Maddie because she reminds me so much of my daughter in her old-time singer-songwriter-guitarist-quirky-song-choice days (in fact, DD interrupted her set list of originals to do an acoustic version of "Rainbow Connection" at a WeHo club gig she had as a birthday present to me!)

Gabby reminds me too much of Jax. The whole "I'm blonde and I sing loud and I'm trying really HARD and I'm cool and blonde and I can turn a single note into five different notes and I'm shouty and did you notice my blonde hair?"

The Looming Tower - General Discussion

Yes, Annie Parisse is Valerie James and Diane Marsh is Alfreda ... I couldn't remember the real names ... did NOT know that she and Scheuer married ... I wonder if she had some input on the scripting here to get that "twoo love" angle ... And no, that angle was not addressed AT ALL (as far as I can remember) and would be fascinating to me ... the book really focused on O'Neill. To a lesser extent on Coleman. Very little on Scheuer. Sounds like you should be writing the next installment! I'd watch your version for sure ... -
The main reason I'd see where Maggie was coming from on this was the way April phrased it ... "I jumped his bones." I would probably take that to mean more than "I tried to kiss him and he resisted" ... I think of "jumping one's bones" as it going a lot farther than that but obviously YMMV.

The Looming Tower - General Discussion

Exactly .. I definitely remember there was a 20th hijacker and now I'm guessing it was him because of this ... but according to the book there were additional backup hijackers here because the original plan also included Los Angeles and I think the Sears Tower in Chicago. It's a VERY good book ... only the last half or even maybe just 30-40% is where the series picks up. Interesting to see which people in the book have their real names used in the series and which don't ... for example, "Chesky" (Bill Camp, not sure if I'm spelling his name right) is allegedly a composite of a few people but clearly, reading the book, primarily based on a man named Dan Coleman. Martin Schimdt is definitely Mike Scheuer (that's confirmed). Some of the women (the FBI woman, can't remember her name in the show but it's Gina Corso IRL) ... can't remember the names of O'Neill's many girlfriends in the show or whether they change them from the book. -
I THINK it's because she is really worried about his being in danger (hello, firefighter) and after the day he'd had (won't go into details because spoilers even for another show) he didn't want to worry her more by telling her what actually happened. I really hope they don't "go there" with the other female firefighter. I've been a huge Bailey and Ben fan from the get-go (Bailey and the Chief are my favorite characters) and the passion still seems to be there and I would hate to see that happen to her. But it's Grey's (and/or a closely-enough related show) that I suspect it might ... boo.

I was positive that Ruby is African-American. That is what confused me ... I remember the mom dying in childbirth and couldn't remember if the baby had died as well ... since I do have memory lapses (medical issues) I thought maybe there was an accompanying storyline where Matthew adopted an orphaned baby or fostered a child to fill the emptiness and share his love.
-
Unbelievably stupid question here so PLEASE forgive me (brain damage memory issues) ... re: Matthew Taylor's baby. Did his wife and baby both die in that big screw-up and he adopted another baby? Is he a foster dad (which inspired Owen to do same)? Or is Ruby actually his baby who survived when his wife died? Because ... well ... thinking she is adorable but doesn't really look like him or his wife. I'll actually miss Bello. I'm in the small minority I guess that has really been a fan of Jeannine (Mason Jeanine?) since her season on SYTYCD.

Thank you!!! I did remember it was Moussaoui (who was not one of the hijackers and maybe that's why) but I was surprised it was not in the book! Stunning. -

So I think this is the right thread here (because the only other option might be the one for book/spoiler but that has NO posts in it) ... anyway, in the most recent episode (Episode 7? Yesterday's episode?) there was a scene and a comment that both elicited huge "HOLY SHIT!" from Mr. Snappy and me where, if I have this right, during the clusterfuck that was people ignoring important possible hints of mass destruction in emails and memos, someone had noted that one of the students at the flying school in Minneapolis (I thought they had said Moussaoui but I don't think that would be correct) had said something to his instructor along the lines of "I don't have to learn how to land a plane because I won't be landing it" or something to that effect. Anyone remember that? That seemed ... just ... stunning. BUT ... I am concurrently reading the book "Looming Tower" and today just came to that section and in the book, while there are absolutely suspicious comments and weird things said and done by said student in Minnesota that was relayed to the NY office (can't remember if it was FBI or CIA) about him being especially interested in topics such as lower New York City air traffic and whether or not the pilots kept the door to the cockpit closed, there was NO MENTION AT ALL IN THE BOOK of the student saying they didn't need to learn how to land because they weren't going to need to land a plane. Is it even possible they put that part about not needing to land a plane into the show for (fictional) dramatic effect? Because we were both stunned to think that was actually reported and ignored. Also weird to be reading the book and realizing that it was written while bin Laden was still alive. -
A very brilliant former poster (who is also an awesome writer anyway) created Carmen's Diary (actually, "Carmen's DAIRY") posts that year ... all about Clay, her "secret heart." That was some of the best writing ever on any website. I also remember around the same time diary posts by "North," Joe Millionaire's horse. And don't get me started on the Showbiz Moms and Dads (and the call of doom to poor Glark) and Paradise Hotel threads. Our awesome TWoP mods (many of whom I believe somehow survived to mod another day here at PTV) had their hands full with us. We're much better behaved now (cough). But maybe we would have been better off sending flowers to our mods than roses to Charla (which one VERY active ex-TWoPer did for Charla of Paradise Hotel IIRC ... not too stalky or anything). But it was definitely the American Idol thread there that started it all ...

I still like to "make things my own dog." Also, let us not forget Ca-a-a-a-a-armen and Tsathy. (The good old days indeed).

Heavy with sharp metal edges for sure ... I had one as well and when I got into a car crash on the FDR (NYC), the third car in a five-car pile-up, it flew right off the casters into my knee. That hurt more than the concussion from hitting my head on the rear-view mirror (though the latter had MUCH longer after-effects). Totaled my poor sweet Chevy Citation (hey, laugh if you will, but I loved that car). Thank you for the enlightenment! Despite having lived in the general DC suburbs since 1989, I clearly do not venture into the city as much as I could/should!

S06.E12: History in the Making

Back in the day when you could buy garments made by the contestants with proceeds going to charity, I bought a dress that Fabio made which I thought was gorgeous even though I was pretty sure it wouldn't fit me (which it didn't because "the girls" were NEVER gonna fit into something made for a stick-thin model) but I still have it and love it like a work of art ... maybe someday when we move I'll get a mannequin (a flat-chested one) and put the dress on it as an actual piece of art ... it was a long off-white crepe dress with periwinkle and mauve "splatter" ... it even had a tiny bit of matte makeup from the model on it. I wish it had fit. I love his color choices. If you scroll way down to the Fabio dresses in this you'll see which one it is (pretty obvious). I LOVE it, though the writer of this blog/site hated it ... https://entertainmentrealm.com/2015/01/26/tv-project-runway-all-stars-s4-episode-10/ -
Damn, for everyone (myself included) having NO idea who Dominique Posey is, I went and found his audition on YouTube and he has a GORGEOUS voice ... we actually saw quite a bit of him in group shots (African-American guy with little red sorta short dreads and a bushy beard) but I guess I'm not alone in not having heard him at all (I missed a few episodes). Guessing this means they're pretty much throwing him to the wolves with no backstory, no voter familiarity, and that's a shame ... he seems really likable with great chops.
-
I realize that may have been taken the wrong way LOL ... I meant that I came out to LA ... not that there's anything wrong with the first context. YES!!!! (Hope PTV can connect this to my other post because I am technologically challenged). And knowing we're going to be subjected to people like Catie and Gabby for longer than we should because they've shoved them down our throats make me wish we could have the option of both voting FOR people and voting people off. I'd take that extra time to do it if I could.
-
That is super-adorable bowling alley ball cleaner/shoe sprayer/pizza cutter Michael Woodard. Best rendition of that "please oversing me every female singer ever" song that I have ever heard, and as a musical theatre major I've heard a lot of them.

I only took a second shot on this show (and those who knew me on TWoP as Jazzie Cazzie will understand how big a deal that is) because my daughter (fka Cazzie Lite) is watching and said it was a fantastic season so it's nice to have stuff to debate with her once a week by phone ... Hubby bailed about 15 minutes into this episode and I was close. EVERYONE was annoying me, not least of which Katy Perry. I know Gabby Bleach Girl (is her dad dying? Not being snarky, I just missed her back story) has already got every last nerve of mine and then some ... I get it. She's pretty and has a great voice but a) that deep diving scuba outfit and b) the way she turns every. single. note. into Whitney Houston's Star-Spangled Banner had me reach for the mute button. I COULD NOT STAND CATIE when I saw her in the first audition episode (which is what turned me off to the show) and she irks me more and more every time I see her ... and I suspect that will be a lot this season. So, yeah, I see those two going really far and me throwing my remote at the TV a lot. Toss up which one I detest more. Gabby is like bad Jax. I didn't see Maddie Poppe's solo audition but if she's the girl who did the acoustic guitar rendition of "Rainbow Connection" I like her quite a bit, but probably not enough to get passionate about (sentimental reasons, because when Cazzie Lite was doing the singer-songwriter scene in LA, she did all originals BUT would always do one cover and when I came out on my birthday, as a surprise for me, she covered "Rainbow Connection" because she knows how much I love it and if I do say so myself her version was better than Maddie's, MAINLY because she actually knew the chord changes LOL but also because ... kleenex). But I think Maddie's my favorite girl if I have to have one. I DID spoil myself on T14 strictly because there were only TWO PEOPLE I saw last night that I could totally get behind rooting for and figured if neither one made it through to that stage why waste my precious unemployed time when I could be bingewatching Grey's for the umpteenth time. As it turns out the ONE person I totally fell in love with (and I believe is a sleeper) DOES make it to T14 so just for that I'm in ... for now ... and for as long as that person sticks around. But I'm not optimistic. And obviously I will not say who it is or spoil it. And once they're auf'ed (early, I bet) I can return to my previously scheduled reruns of MAFS/LAFF/90DF and other Lifetime acronym-friendly crap. A few Qs if you'll bear with me a little ... who is the twin with the stage mother? Who are the others that everyone here already hates? I want to be in on the snark!!!

Ditto. The combination of his having a beautiful face, that sexy voice and a truly wonderful and sweet spirit (and great sense of humor) makes him pretty much the perfect mate. I DID NOT LIKE his design this week so was glad he escaped elimination but agree with all (most? all, I think!) of you that if there was going to be an elimination based strictly on what they did this week, he should have gone and not Ken. I think a lot of shows at this point, even if they're not SUPPOSED to, will still in the back of their minds find ways NOT to eliminate people they want to make it to finals and/or win. Loved Ken's redemption arc ... I think he still probably has the awesome snark but has found a way (therapy?) to channel it from snotty to tamping it down to reserved. And he's always been a good designer. By far my favorite final 3-4-5 ever (I loved Edmund too but he didn't really bring it). I'd be happy with any of the F3 winning. I wish there was a way to check this ... I remember during Stanley's first season, the very first episode where they showed the candidates for the show and had blips of their "audition collections" (can't remember what it's called), I got a glimpse of this one dress he had in it that was one of the most stunning I'd seen on the show ever ... the way I remember it, and again only a glimpse, was a simple olive-colored cocktail dress, just a swingy shift, with sequins. It was so pretty and a great color ... I tried to find it to see if he was selling it but never could. I've liked him ever since then ... he's always seemed classy and kind (and those shade looks he throws are gold). BTW ... which designers are the "sister wives"? -
Okay, so, I may be being a) completely anal-retentive about this or b) completely wrong or c) both, but all I could think in those scenes where Paige is walking in that neighborhood with the big modern office building with the number 55 is that as far as I know, there are NO buildings in DC like that which would have double-digit numbers.
-
Having lived here in MoCo (and first in NoVa) since 1989, so not that long after this season is taking place, I can't imagine Woodley Park/Cleveland Park even then being considered a "bad neighborhood." As long as I've been down here, AFAIK, it's always been one of the nicest areas of DC.
