That and it certainly would have helped to keep Hook relevant and interesting beyond his role as a sort of romance/shipping accessory if Milah/Shelley had been granted a bigger role and some of his centrics had at least been devoted to showing more of a consistent narrative regarding their pirate-y life together rather than propping up random one-off guest stars by repeating the same story of how Hook has wronged them in the past over and over. I don't have high expectations either way, but one good thing that *could* come out of Colin staying after JMo left is that his character's finally allowed to be a bit more fun again. I've said this a couple of times, I have nothing against the Hook/Emma pairing per se. But the way that story was told and handled ultimately didn't do Hook as an independent characters any real favors and I feel like he never really got to develop his own potential after the writers settled on making him and Emma TL.

Season Seven: The Reset Anticipation/Apprehension/Dread Topic
RedKeep replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Once Upon A Time
If they are indeed going for the Wish Realm scenario it would definitely make sense to bring back the version of Robin Hood that exists there as well, but I suppose it might be a budget question and if I were Sean... I'd think about joining that show again very, very hard before commiting to anything. He's friends with the remaining cast, but with the way they've treated him and his character before... -
Season Seven: The Reset Anticipation/Apprehension/Dread Topic
RedKeep replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Once Upon A Time
I admit, I'm at least curious what they've managed to cook up in terms of a new story scenario that sold ABC on a full season 7, so I do see myself tuning in at least for the first couple of episodes to satisfy that curiousity. I'm not going to pretend I'd be mourning Rumbelle/Belle or Zelena after the mess the writers have made with them and while it does suck that EdR and Rebecca weren't even asked back it always seemed kinda obvious they'd have to cut costs in order to squeeze out at least one more season. While I didn't mind them I was also never overly invested in Emma/Hook as a romantic pair and as long as they leave Emma alone and don't mess with the character off-screen after Jmo's final episode I don't have any issues with Colin returning full-time since his character barely got any development outside of the love interest role after season 3. -

This is actually a great idea, which likely means it won't happen. But an ability to stretch their acting muscles like that would be one reason why I could see certain castmembers sticking around for the reboot. -

That's some seriously questionable timing... Honestly, if ABC was serious about the reboot idea I imagine they're fine with this development, though. If it works and the show might even make it past a s7, they can use her 1 episode to write Hook out too in case CoD wants to leave after that as well and if it tanks they can bring her back for a series finale. -

This is the one thing I'll take away from the musical as well. Much of the press/promotion bits they've been involved in over the last couple of days have a "last hurrah" vibe to it as well, which makes it even more obvious how much the show is truly going to change at its very heart if ABC does decide to renew it. -
The Writers of OUAT: Because, Um, Magic, That's Why

I think it wasn't quite flat-out, but I remember a line of dialogue between Regina and Maleficent in episode 2 that heavily hinted at what would then be explored in The Stable Boy, yes. -
Same. Besides, I'm not sure there's much left to be spoiled as far as the wedding part of the episode goes. For better or worse (depending on where you stand, with regards to numerous aspects), I don't think it'll be that relevant and prominent a part of the episode beyond providing some sort of backdrop for the singing/musical numbers.

Same. And this is one example that makes me think actors being giving a lot of room to influence decisions made bts isn't always the smartest move. That instagram post only serves to underline the point that this is a Jennifer Morrison choice more than an Emma choice - even if she herself thinks of it as something that also works for the character. -
"Maybe there are no good guys.": Characters of the 100
RedKeep replied to Solace247's topic in The 100 [V]
Who is "everyone"? Generalizations like that don't help anyone in trying to have some sort of constructive discussion on here, to be honest. I'm sorry if you feel like your fav is not getting the treatment he deserves, but I'm really tired of having to argue against some vague, assumed mass of people outside of this board who may or may not be racist in their response to the show. The TV Guide blurp about Clarke certainly is debatable, but again... generalizations don't encourage actual, constructive debate, as far as I'm concerned. -

I really don't think storywise it was all that great. Which isn't surprising, mind you, since it's an aging show written by two guys who mostly ran out of original ideas long before season 5 rolled around and who are massively talented at wasting whatever interesting scenarios they (accidentally) come up with in their day-to-day writing. Much of what is happening with CS now strikes me as "fanservice" and I wouldn't count on that meaning great things for them if the show is indeed renewed. Snowing/GG and JD are great examples for what happens to characters/couples once the writers have officially lost interest and they feel like they've hit every relevant milestone with them. If they drop GG/JD or the two of them want to leave if the show's renewed, I'd bet on CS taking their place as the mostly-off-screen-happy-couple while others get the meat of whatever storylines they come up with. Especially if Rumbelle doesn't survive and Regina currently has no love interest anyway since Sean's alternative Robin Hood won't stick around. I'm no shipper so really don't care on that level, but if JMo resigns I'd rather not have her suffer through the Ginny Goodwin treatment since that's just a waste of everyone's time and her talent. (I know GG had to two children over the course of the show, but I honestly don't think that's an excuse for how her character's been written since basically the beginning of season 3.) -

It's not like it'll have to be 11 full-blown musical numbers of 2-3 minutes each. It might indeed just mean 11 scenes featuring any type of musical feature, be it signing or dancing, of whatever length. But honestly, if the wild mix of locations is anything to go by... yeah, I'm still preparing myself for a giant, hot mess. -
Thanks for the news regarding the Funko Pops. I was starting to wonder whether they were still going to release any for this show at all since it felt like quite a lot of time passed between the first announcement and the concept art preview. Obviously not a fan of the skin tone mishaps either, but other than that they turned out well. The level of detail is pretty great and makes them rather unique compared to some of Funko's other tv show Pops. I appreciate Lincoln in grounder garb and the costumes of choice for Lexa and Ocatavia. Didn't expect a variant/chase version, but it's a bit of a no-brainer that they'd pick Lexa for it from a business pov. If sales numbers lead to the release of a second wave, I wouldn't be surprised to see more variants of popular characters along with a few selected new ones like Kane and Abby.

I wonder... for how many casual viewers the "star" of the show is actually the concept, Disney/fairytale characters meet modern world, something along those lines. I don't know if I'm convinced that a vast majority of viewers outside of fandom would drop the show without second thought over a (particular) character's fate. I mean, again, think Grey's Anatomy and "McDreamy". If ABC's looking at this from the pov that Kitsis/Horowitz wasted tons of potential in terms of mere story concept and there's more to be done with that still, I can see why they'd entertain reboot ideas or continuing with or without some of the original stars. -

RedKeep replied to regularlyleaded's topic in Once Upon A Time
That's what I'm thinking, too. I'd guess it's somewhat similar to the circumstances under which the Grey's Anatomy musical episode was produced in the sense that you've got a few professionally trained and experienced musicians and the rest of those actually willing to sing is on very similar levels of doing fine with a certain amount of training. The question is how much time and money is this show ready to invest in order to come up with something that's at least... bordering on professional. -

I imagine it's not just a matter of which characters the writers would want to keep, but rather also which actors would even consider sticking around beyond season 6 and either a shortened or a full season 7. If I were Jennifer Morrison or even Ginnifer Goodwin, I'd really think at least twice about signing on to whatever experiment they've got in their heads for any potential episodes beyond 7a. And I don't think splitting up a popular couple is a huge issue for ABC at this point as long as they think they remaining character is enough of a draw. Grey's Anatomy literally started out as the Meredith and Derek story and does just fine without the latter these days. (And yes, various factors play into that, but M/D was still arguably the entire network's most popular/well-known couple for many, many years.) -
No one is arguing that it's harmful for bisexual characters to fall in love with men. I honestly don't know where you're even trying to pull that from. It should be possible, however, to discuss how popular media representation deals with bisexuality and lasting happiness. I can't claim to be an expert on that front in terms of numbers, but I understand where the concern comes from that m/m or f/f relationships are still, ultimately, more likely to be treated as a short term detour or a stepping stone towards the bisexual character then finding their "endgame" or long-term happiness with a partner of the opposite sex. As long as viewers still have to worry about gender-coded happy endings or higher mortality rates among queer characters and dynamics, we still have to worry about the harmful messages put forth by such skewed or imbalanced forms of representation. It seems rather obvious and simple to me and I'd honestly like to know how exactly that's supposed to be a form of biphobia. And if Rothenberg and his staff writers want to cash in on and draw attention to the fact that they have a bisexual protagonist, they simply need to start paying attention to the nuances and the messages they send out on that level as well. Instead of treating Clarke's sexuality as a carte blanche to just do whatever the hell they want without giving it much thought beyond their own levels of experience, consequences and cultural/social context be damned. Their show doesn't exist in a vacuum, after all, no matter how much they still seem to assume that's the case.

This. Saw a RT of the trailer on my Twitter timeline today and didn't even make it through the whole thing. I'm not even mad anymore, I was just... honestly surprised by how emotionally unaffected I felt while watching it. It does seem like a complete repetition of stories they've told half a dozen times before on every single front. I admit, I did laugh out loud (well, more like snort, really) when they had Bellamy of all people say something about not wanting to sacrifice innocents, though.

I think in some ways it might actually be a relief for me if the show does end this season. The more I think about it, the less I am convinced that a shortened 7th season would really make much of a difference in terms of how Horowitz and Kitsis would set up the series finale. They've mentioned again and again that they know and knew from the start how they want the show to end and while they must have made certain minor changes to that scenario after some time, to include new characters like Hook for example, I have no trouble believing that they want to go with something that essentially has to stand on its own, the type of gimmicky episode they seem to love, going by their season finales. I don't trust them to use any additional 10-12 episodes that a shortened last season may provide to write proper build-up for whatever their series finale idea is. Chances are they'd just waste them (or most of them) on weird new, ratings stunt guest characters or they'll suddenly decide Mulan now seriously needs a centric devoted to giving her a happy ending or whatever. -

This is the way I understood it as well. It wouldn't make any sense to me if someone wishing for a world in which the curse never happened ended up creating some sort of hellish alternative timeline in which the characters are all terribly unhappy. There'll be some obvious, steep consequences the characters won't be able to accept - like Henry not being born - but that doesn't mean literally everything that could come out of such an AU would be terrible. -

I believe the press info announcing his return always said Sean Maguire/Robin would be in a couple of episodes. If I remember correctly, we have spoilers of him on set for episodes 11 and 12 so far and I wouldn't be surprised if he's around until episode 15, maybe even 16 or 17 if he's not in every episode after 12. I'm still completely confused as to what they think they're doing with him if that's not even the "real" Robin, but I think Maguire also mentioned that Kitsis and Horowitz didn't tell him how his little arc would end when he signed on again so who knows if that's not yet another thing they're at least partially making up as they go along. Honestly, I'm starting to think they should have just brought Robin back from death and made a heartfelt attempt to fix at least some of the mess they've created before he could join Belle by fading in the background again. The show's very likely going to end with season 7 anyway so this whole thing just seems so completely pointless on so many levels. -

This. The idea of an AU like that as such is not at all bad, but with Horowitz/Kitsis writing it and squeezing it into a single episode on top of that it's bound to be yet another great bit of potential completely wasted. I expected zero emotional depth and certainly nothing substantial as far as the Charmings are concerned. Ideally, the three of them (assuming Henry and the baby aren't part of the AU) should have the opportunity to deal with many of the family aspects that the show has happily ignored/skipped over for years now, but I expect most of their scenes will be devoted to Emma's love life and making sure she ends up with he "right" partner at the end of this. Which, frankly, I really couldn't care less about. Same goes for Regina. I guess there's still the question how Robin Hood ends up in Storybrooke later on, but since it's likely not the Robin Hood we know and the characters know I'm also not sure how exactly Horowitz and Kitsis plan to give the Robin and Robin/Regina dynamic they screwed over again and again since they brought Marian back and then turned her into Marilena closure with this. -
That's pretty big indeed. He's been fairly unenthusiastic about the show in his review articles and even more so in the comments on said articles for quite a while, but I also tend to think something else must have happened if he's indeed planning to just drop the show in the middle of the season. And this tweet sounds like that's what's he going for too:
