Kevin probably didn't take any vows not to steal cars, but he still knows it's wrong to steal. If he slept with Sophie they both contributed to the break-up of the marriage. It takes two people to commit adultery and only one has to be married. It drives me crazy when someone sleeps with a married person and claims innocence because they didn't take a vow. They may not have stood at the front of the church and taken a vow to forsake all others, but they were probably part of a congregation that was told, what God has joined together let not man separate.

And spoiled and smart-alecky. That time she kept putting the stair covers on crooked and he kept telling her to stop and she kept right on doing it until he blew up at her? Yes, he got overly angry and frightening, but rather than burst into tears and run off for a minute like most kids would do, she shut herself in her room and both she and her mother didn't forgive him for weeks. Now she's back to being sassy with him so I guess she thinks he's learned his lesson. -
People are on Survivor eating bugs and raw fish and Drea skips PB&J because she, "doesn't like it?" I like my peanut butter on whole wheat with lettuce and mayo, but I'd do the jelly in a heartbeat if I was starving. I think she just remembered Sarah policewoman finding an advantage under that bench. Drea is my eye candy this year, what a lovely heart shaped face. Whoever said you can't win Survivor being paranoid and running from person to person must not have watched Adam's season. Romeo doesn't seem that irritating to me, maybe he'll settle down and win. Maryann's crying about being "on the bottom" and left out would have touched me more if Lydia hasn't just been coldly blindsided by the group without doing anything wrong at all. That's left out. Tori's grit and focus during the challenges is great to watch. She can always say she beat Jonathan!

My biggest worry is how young Rebecca knew that porn stars all had big mustaches? Did they even have VCR's at that time? Was she slipping into Art Theaters in the afternoons with her pound of ham festering in the car with her Cornish hens.?

Oh Gallimaufry, you argue such a good case for Kim. Get thee behind me Satan! ;) Kim is playing God with her machinations and feeling perfectly justified because those old people need that money before they die and she's not hurting Howard all that much. Maybe. The thing is we don't know on what shaky hat stand someone like Howard is hanging his self esteem. The 'he's a drug addict," whispers may follow Howard forever and make him think he himself is as permanently tarnished as his reputation. I don't think Jimmy ever realized how much he hurt Chuck when he worked all night ("Nobody ever called Jimmy lazy") changing that address to make it look like Chuck misread it. Chuck had prided himself all his life on his meticulous attention to detail, even Howard mentioned it and now, at the end of his career he had publically been called out on a huge mistake. On the other side we saw how unhappy one old Sandpiper lady was when she suddenly had lots of money and all her friends shunned her. Those Sandpiper residents aren't poor or they'd be in Medicare provided nursing homes. They're comfortable and having fun with friends. A huge windfall might just send them out doing crazy bucket list things and stroking out the first week. It's just not Kim's job to manipulate lives and twist ethics because she thinks she knows who is most deserving. -
The first time I came home with really short hair my four year-old burst into tears, but he didn't say anything mean. I don't think Beth and Madison were wearing identical bridesmaids dresses, they were just similar. I imagine, since they've back slid into high-school girls, one called the other and said, "I'll wear my white dress with embroidery on it if you wear yours!" My money's on Sophie, too. Kevin and the three suspects probably stayed up late drinking and sharing TMI, as you do, and Sophie said she and her husband were getting divorced, just didn't want to tell Kate and put a damper on the wedding. As if that could get any worse. Kevin must have paid for the engagement party as well as the wedding, and all their friends must be rich, too, to want to spend so much time and money celebrating for Kate and Phillip. The custom in my family is to get two of your best friends to go to the Justice of Peace with you and then out to dinner some place nice.

I agree Kim is just being mean, and the sad part is that she thinks she's being good and noble, because she believes ruining Howard will make the Sandpiper deal work out and Poor People will benefit. Something happened to Kim when that stubborn old man who refused to move for Mesa Verde called her a bunch of names she didn't deserve. He must have hit some sensitive spot in her that made her feel like she had become a terrible person and now she's had to go to the other extreme in order to like herself again. Only now the "good" pro bono, social servant Kim is actually much harder and more ruthless than the old corporate Kim. When she was describing her new case, working for the young guy who was innocently "just driving" the getaway car for the horrible, guilty, thieving rich kid, I kept wondering why she was so sure her client wasn't lying to her. All while she was talking Jimmy seemed to be just humoring her. I'm not looking forward to Kim's big let down when she finds out that all rich people aren't bad and all poor people aren't good.- 202 replies

I think I read somewhere that the twins aren't actors at all, but just two guys hired for their looks. Good for you for noticing. That's why we almost never hear them say anything. In fact I think, "alive!" in Spanish was their first spoken line. They said something to someone who was in the back of their car one time, but we didn't see either face while it was said so I expected it was dubbed in by an actor. So now, I not only don't fear them, I worry for them. I was afraid Nacho was going to run over their snake boots this time. ETA: I just looked at their IMBD's and they've both done a bit of TV work since they were discovered for Breaking Bad, Maybe they've learned to act a little bit since then, so now they get to say words! I'll always like them for that iconic scene in BB, where the truck blows up behind them and they don't break stride or look back. -
My BFF in high school (and to this day) would always turn green on our 40 minute bus ride in to Charleston to shop. We would always have to stop for a coke, while she recovered from the diesel fumes, before we could set forth to giggle for the entire day. Come to think of it, she always became severely constipated when we went to camp. Some people just don't make good travelers and if they're uncomfortable it's hard to enjoy anything much. I'm hoping Nurse Crane comes back with a good idea of what to do with her money after she secures her old age with a savings account. Think of all the horrors they've witnessed. One thing must have struck her particularly hard -- maybe the need for little boys to have a safe place to play ball. She could fund a little park!

Yes my mother (and I) cared for her aging mother, 24/7 in our home, for her final 15 years, and my aunt and cousins would come once a year and act like visiting royals. Speaking of which, I was so mad at Princess Diana when she ruined the timeless look of her wedding, (golden carriage, teams of matched horses, massive gown) with that soccer mom cut. At least Mandy Moore looked prettier with it. I felt like this whole episode was a trailer for, "Who does Kevin choose?" and I don't really care.

Yes, I thought the whole, 'You don't want me because I'm Jewish!" act was just to make the club manager so embarrassed and apologetic that he wouldn't hesitate to let Saul go into the locker room unaccompanied.- 202 replies

Was Saul's tacky toilet mansion the same house we once saw Kim and Saul looking at, and taking an accidental shower in? The mansion seemed much bigger, but I never did get a good feel for the size of the one with the angry realtor. -

Sigh. You two are right. The tequila stopper and Jimmy's "World's Best Lawyer" thermos were both seen discarded this episode, casting off their value as romantic good luck charms. Then we saw Saul muttering about wolves and sheep as they drove away and it wasn't clear if the wolf was Mrs. Kellerman or Kim, or all of them. -

Now why do they do that? AMC has very few original shows, they usually have short seasons, we wait for years for the new season -- and then they want to run two episodes together making the season even shorter. Plus, I usually go to bed at nine so this is going to be painful for me.- 202 replies

There's something very touching about all Lucille's scenes even though I only understand about half what she says. I've decided that if I was having a baby I would chose Lucille as my midwife. I think it would be nice to be called precious. Who would you all choose?
-
I remembered she cried like that when she accidently hit the little boy with the car. I was very moved by her then, but I thought it was a little too much over Lucille's miscarriage. I know they're an empathetic bunch, but even so, I was afraid for a moment that she thought Lucille was going to die. When Nurse Crane was telling Sister Julienne that the money was a burden to her, I felt Sister J's temptation to say, "Well, I guess you could give it to us." The violent mother was terrifying, I was scared of her from her very first scene when I just thought she was controlling.

Wow, that's a good story. My bank got in trouble for not seeing the red flags! Now her "house arrest" is on a luxurious 80 acre horse ranch partially funded by her stolen money. She's living her passion! I know. We never got to hear exactly what the step-daughters said about Russ on the stand. If they made him sound like an abusive monster after he had loved and raised them as his own, I can understand his inability to forgive them. I think "bearing false witness" is one of the worst things you can do and if those cops talked teenage girls into doing that "to get justice for your mother" then they really should pay a big price for that.

Crimes You'd Like To See On Dateline: Calling Keith Morrison!
JudyObscure replied to cooksdelight's topic in Dateline
We've been talking embezzlers on the episode thread and it reminded me I've always wanted to see the true story about Brian Malony that the film, "Owning Mahowney" was based on. He a banker who stole over 10 million from his bank to fund his Atlantic City gambling habit. The late great Philip Seymour Hoffman was fabulous in it. -
One of the loan officers in the credit union where I worked was caught after the low level person who actually cut the checks noticed the signatures on a lot of loans looked similar. The loan officer was a woman in her forties who always dressed beautifully and swanned around like she was far above us lowly tellers. Imagine my surprise one day when a couple of FBI men came in and walked her out in handcuffs. Taking this to "Crimes we'd like to see"...

Sorry @Himela, I don't have a specific article in mind. I just remembered it wasn't that big a number from articles I've read over the years. I did ask Google for lifespan info to check it before I said it here. I read health articles about weight loss all the time. Like I think the knowledge will make me thin without having to do anything. All I know for sure is it seemed like the day I quit smoking and I started getting fat was the same day doctors quit saying smoking was the number one preventable cause of death and changed it to obesity. Still my doctor always assures me that it's far better to be fat than to be a smoker.

You reminded me of a last season episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show where she and Mr. Grant, both sick of being single, go on a trial date and during their first kiss both burst out laughing.

I usually avoid all movies, TV shows and books about divorce, but I didn't want to lose continuity after watching every episode of this, so I watched -- and broke into ugly crying both times little Jack said, "You're both here!" Depressed now. I thought Kate was rotten for letting Toby give up his job in L. A. when she must have known, deep down, that she had already given up on the marriage. As evidenced by her being the worst therapy patient ever. On the other hand, I do see the attraction between Kate and Phillip. Something in Phillip makes him want to be a white knight for his woman, the type of guy who would marry a blind woman or one who was very obese. He also clearly loves children while doubting if he is capable of making a woman pregnant so Kate, who already has two adorable children, would be ideal. I didn't think there was anything overly quick about their first date either. They've been friends at work for years and Kate is a very different happy, enthusiastic person when she's teaching those kids. As for future Kate still being alive. Morbidly obese women have an average shortened life span of five years. So. Death at 75 rather than 80 would be average. The diet industry has been trying to make us believe that if we don't lose weight we're going to drop dead next week, but it just isn't true.

I'm with you, 100%. I want to see how the housewives of Poplar reacted to things just as much as I like seeing how they did laundry and where they kept the baby carriage. It's history! They might have had a lot of sex in Poplar in the 1960s, but if the girl got pregnant the boy almost always, "did the right thing." Even if it meant going AWOL as we've seen. The unmarried birth rate was 3% in the U. S. at that time and I figure it was about the same in England. Compared to unmarried births being about 40% now it is without a doubt one of the biggest, fastest social changes in history. It wasn't until the 1970's that most people began to sympathize with the single mother. Before that all the sympathy was with the "poor child being raised without a father," (sometimes called "without a name") and it was assumed the child would be outcast and called a bastard. I would like to see Dr. Turner and some of the midwives notice the social change and talk about it, at the very least.

This just in -- Lori Daybell has been declared competent for trial. Chad and Lori Daybell’s cases are set to be tried together in Ada County in January 2023. I needed something to look forward to. I sure hope Court TV gets to film it all for us.
