  1. I got it, but it was circular thinking. I went, Xanadu? Shangri-la? Somehow I remembered that Shangri-La was its original name, and from there I remembered that Camp David was named after David Eisenhower. I think it was parenthetical information when he married Julie Nixon way back in the day. I did not realize it was in Maryland.
  2. I love Joy, but most of her jokes, not so much. I did belly laugh today, though, when she said that Kellyanne Conway had already reported that there had been two terrorist attacks on one of the newly discovered planets.
  3. I know that there are intelligent non-Foxbot conservatives in this country who can articulate why they feel the way they do and who can make their points in a calm and logical manner. (I'm related to at least one.) Why The View cannot seem to locate such a person for the panel vexes me. Jed is a knee-jerk oppositionist whose main debate talent is to talktalktalkwithouttakingabreath, thereby drowning out all other conversation. Paula, I believe, thinks out why she feels the way she does, but she is a poor debater, always falling back on repeating the same phrase over and over, despite the fact that it does nothing to convince anyone. Elisabeth "Word Salad" Hasselbeck was just a mess, bless her heart, with neither the convictions nor eloquence to defend her views. On the liberal side, Joy, at least, can explain why she feels the way she does and has the knowledge to back it up, as well as strong convictions that she is correct. I have learned from her, particularly from her other shows that featured political discussions and guests with whom she actually disagreed. Lively and informative conversations were had, without malice. Too bad The View has no one but Joy who can defend and intelligently discuss, well, their views. Real conversation needs more than meme-talk!
  4. Dr. Blue Eyes always gives me a thrill. A little balder, and a little heavier than he was in earlier seasons, but he's my all-time favorite. JudyObscure and I will have to have a catfight over him. ;-) He's so soothing and so honest without shaming anyone.
  5. I have a great-nephew named Anakin. It's one of those instances where I just tell the parents how cute he is and literally hold my hand over my mouth to stop saying more. Because I have a lot of opinions about it (that don't need to be heard by family).
  6. Jedidiah is intolerable. How does she even breathe when she's spewing any sentence that come into her head the very second Joy opens her mouth? it's like she's playing a tape for minutes at a time and doesn't even pause for air. And it is Joy. She lets Whoopi, Sunny, and Sara speak. But the second Joy starts speaking, AutoSpeakJed goes into action. It's really annoying. As I've said before, she must think that the person who says the most words while someone else is speaking wins the argument. I loathe her. At one point today, about the third time Jedidiah pulled this annoying little trick, Joy threw her hands in the air and gave up.
  7. Talk loudly! They get frustrated with quiet contestants. They'll ask what you would do with a lot of money if you earn it. Come up with something fun. So many people were boring - droned on about college funds and paying off bills. They're looking for other stuff. I said, and I am completely serious, that I would buy heated sidewalks for my building that would melt the Chicago snow. Someone else said a facelift. Have fun!
  8. I agree that shunning Tiffany Trump is mean and unnecessary. Yeah, we hate her dad. But she's not her dad. She's just barely an adult, and doesn't make policy and doesn't seem to be much on her father's radar at all. FFS, most people have to sit next to someone they can't stand nearly every day. Yet we all manage to do it, and that's part of being mature and gracious. You can sit next to someone whose family annoys you and be polite. I hate to see the so-called "big tent" party turn as petty as those they despise. Good for Whoopi.
  9. I saw the names and immediately turned on the close-captioning. Robert Carlyle in particular, though he's one of my favorites, required it!
  10. Jedi apparently thinks that if she yells loudly over the facts being presented and never takes a breath, that constitutes winning an argument. #factswin #sooverher
  11. Didn't they JUST talk about Guy Day Friday coming back?
  12. I'm so sick of hearing Whoopi bitch about Black History Month being in the shortest month of the year. Like that was a deliberate slight. Woman, stop looking for things to be pissed off about! Now, if she actually cared enough to read black history, she would learn that it started out as Negro History Week, and was the brainchild of Carter G Woodson, who chose that week because it included the birthdays of Frederick Douglass (someone the POTUS apparently just found out about and thinks is still alive) and Abraham Lincoln. There is so much to be genuinely concerned about these days, and I get annoyed by Whoopi's running commentary that she's somehow personally being slighted about BHM being February. BTW, my lovely friend Joe was in the studio audience yesterday and posted a photo on Facebook of Keke's book that he received on the way out the door.
  13. I'm only saying this to be devil's advocate. Apparently in German, a "z" ending a name is pronounced "tz." When you see a name with a TZ ending, it was probably written phonetically at some point. So to a German-speaking person, Schulz and Schultz would have the same pronunciation. (I don't speak German, but yes, I have one of those last names -- spelled ending in Z and correctly pronounced like TZ... not that any of us do. My aunt was once reprimanded in a college class by a German professor who scolded her for ruining "your beautiful German last name" by leaving out the implied T.)
  14. My dad didn't pay child support when I was a kid because he was devastated by the divorce. My parents are both dead now (whimper), but managed to remain friendly while I was a kid -- FOR MY SAKE. I didn't know about the child support situation until I was in college and my mom sued my dad to try to recover some of it. I am so glad that they remained civil because I wasn't used as a go-between and neither of them said anything bad about the other until I was grown. I wish Sherri had the same maturity as two 25-year-olds did in my case. I never felt torn. Poor LJ will have to contend with knowing that Sherri has said publicly that God knows LJ is not her child in any way, shape, or form. The immaturity of this woman is jaw-dropping... she's got to be close to 50 by now?! LJ will be the one with the psychic scars from her inability to shut up and/or grow up. I'm not on Team Sal or Team Sherri, but I am on Team LJ.
  15. I think the IRS counts child support as the income of the custodial parent. Legally, I think Sal has to claim it as income to him, since LJ can't file tax returns yet. The intention of child support is to try to ensure that the child has the same financial advantages s/he would have had if the parents had never divorced. So if Sal can only provide a one-bedroom apartment on his salary and Sherri is living in a 10-room villa with staff and a swimming pool (I have no idea where or how either of them is living, this is hypothetical only), then the child support could and should go into a better living situation for LJ, and it leaks over into Sal's living situation, since he's the custodial parent. It can go for LJ to have better schooling, a place to live in a better school district, live-in care, and good clothes. It can't go toward Sal's entertainment, or things that will be used by Sal alone (say, a really nice cell phone or computer). The custodial parent will nearly always have the side advantage of things that go for the child being shared by the parent. If Sherri thinks she is being taken advantage of and/or that Sal is using child support payments to buy things that are not for LJ, she can always go back to court to dispute how Sal is spending the child support. Unfortunately, she does not have the ability to let things go. She will be in and out of court forEVER over this. She simply doesn't have the ability to see that she made an error and it's time to pull up her big girl panties and live with the consequences. She simply cannot see that she is causing irreparable harm to her professional reputation and to the child whose birth she engineered.
  16. Omarosa did that thing that the RWNJs have learned, they play the victim card. "I'm not going to take what you're throwing at me." Just like "you're lying about the numbers of the crowd." Unhappiest, most bitter "winners" ever.
  17. Why in hell is Sherri fixated on what Sal says in his dating profile? Get over it! This is "conduct unbecoming" anyone. This is not junior high. The intention of child support is to ensure that the child has the kind of financial support that he or she would have had if the parents had stayed together. I am hardly a Sal fan, but if Sherri has had a huge bump in her income, then that should be reflected in what she pays for LJ. I cannot believe she is now saying that she had nothing to do with instigating the birth of LJ. Does she think we didn't see her saying so on The View for years?
  18. She seems to think that if she rattles off the same information over and over again, non-stop, and drowns out anyone else speaking, that somehow makes her right. I know that cross-talk is one of this show's hallmarks, but sheesh! Take a breath and let other people talk! I am not a fan of Whoopi, but when Whoopi was visibly disgusted by Jed a few weeks ago and threw her hands up in the air because Jed wouldn't stop the flow of words to let anyone else speak, I was firmly with Whoopi. Which is something I rarely say.
  19. Well, now someone else said it's not doctored and that there is a long shot showing the same thing. I don't know, but it's going viral. The look on her face makes me so sad.
  20. And that is, pro-choice. Acknowledging that there are different circumstances for different women, and giving every woman the freedom to choose what is best for her in her own circumstances and heart. One can be anti-abortion and pro-choice. A friend ran this on Facebook and then retracted it because he said he had gotten information it was run backward, and the audio track had been put over the doctored video. I hope so. No matter who they are, and what my feelings are toward Trump, it rips my heart out to see despair like that. I hope it is not how Melania is treated.
  21. Isn't "The Moonies" an alternate name for the Unification Church? And why did the champ look down instead of at Alex during the interview portion? I like Sean, and look forward to seeing how he will do.
  22. Cristela and her laugh on Monday. Fake journalist Gretchen and reality star political appointee Omarosa on Friday. Two hours more "me time" this week.
  23. That's nuts. She was half the reason that LJ was born. Morally, ethically, she has two sons. What a kick in the teeth because that little boy will know, at some point in his life, that Sherri does not consider him "in God's eyes" to be her son. Her hatred of Sal is bleeding over into questioning LJ's very existence. (1) He was created at her request. (2) Therefore, she is responsible for him. Lord have mercy, I get furious when animal owners treat their pets like possessions they can dump when they get tired of them. I am appalled that a mother is doing this with a human child.
  24. I loved the Betsy Tacy books! And I got most of my geographical knowledge from Bobbsey Twin books (the later ones, written in the 1960s, where they traveled all over the world).
  25. On its Facebook page, Jeopardy ran a video of Cindy explaining her cancer and her Jeopardy experience. She broke down a bit when she mentioned she was dying. So I broke down a lot. What a charming, generous warrior she was. Given that it was Greek gods, I don't know why they accepted Bacchus. In the Hephaestus clue, they mentioned he was married to Aphrodite (not Venus), so I figured that was why Vulcan couldn't be the correct answer. I was shocked that Alex didn't go all accent-berserk when he was the chance to do so in pronouncing legerdemain. I hate when game shows leave me sobbing.
