  1. Wow! Ben is, once again, the Comeback Kid! I hope he wins it all, but I like Troy almost as much as I like Ben, so I'd be fine either way.
  2. Week 27: 0/5. I'll bring some tortellini in pink vodka sauce; A comforting plate of cheese stuffed zeroes. 😋
  3. Moving this discussion over from the 96th Academy Awards topic: The general public certainly considered Henry Fonda to be a beloved, iconic actor. I don't think it's a given that the Academy did. They didn't award him a competitive Oscar until he was quite literally on his death bed, and had only given him an honorary Oscar the prior year when it became known that he wasn't well.
  4. I'm going to move this discussion over to the General Discussion topic in this forum as we've ventured away from the 96th Academy Awards for a few too many posts.
  5. Georgie was in a short scene with Missy where she asks him to buy her some beer for the party. Georgie informs her that not only is she too young, but also that he's still not old enough to buy beer! (Mandy later, and amusingly, reinforces this point!) Georgie does make a contribution to the party, supplying Missy with a bunch of good quality fireworks that he had in the garage. So, if you were wondering where Missy got the fireworks that hit Mary in the tush at the end of the episode, now you know!
  6. Yes, plus $100,000. You can find all the info about the tournament here.
  7. Well, according to his interview today he claimed he "has a master's degree in Cinematic Arts Critical Studies" which in the context of that Pretty Little Liars story, would seem to be yet another of his attempts at humor that fell flat. I hate that he won tonight. It was very enjoyable to have been two games into the TOC without a win for Yogesh. Now we're three games in and it's, in essence, a wash. 😕
  8. This is the funniest YS episode I've seen in a long time! All of the plots were hilarious. 👏
  9. I had to post the portrait of the Godzilla Minus One VFX team as I fell in love with all of them from the video that was released of their reaction to their nomination on announcement morning. I love the Godzilla action figures they carried on the red carpet and at the ceremony. I'm so glad they've been immortalized here!
  10. Sadly, even the full gallery only has portraits of the six Best Actor winners and the Six Best Supporting Actor winners. The women in the two acting categories are not posted at the Oscars' site. 😢
  11. The Academy has released its official portraits from the 96th Oscars. I'm posting 12 of the portraits here, which I'm assuming will require 3 or 4 posts based on file size. The full gallery, which includes all the below-the-line winners, can be viewed at this link: https://aframe.oscars.org/news/post/gallery-96th-oscars-winners-portraits?photo=0 More portraits.
  12. It would seem that they're really not allowing Buzzy to play. 😢 (We've had the Jeopardy! adjacent discussion here before.) I'm very disappointed. 😞
  13. On O'Toole/Robertson, we are in complete agreement. I adore Katharine Hepburn and The Lion in Winter may well be her greatest performance. It's certainly up there. That said, I sort of like the tie. I love Funny Girl and Barbra was amazing, carrying the entire two and a half hour movie at 26 years old. If I'd been an Academy member voting that year, I think I'd have been praying for a tie!
  14. Much better episode. The newly deceased obituary subject was the main plot. He was an interesting character and the interrogation scene along with the garbage scene were funny. Importantly, the writing for Lexi was better this week. They still have a way to go but this was definitely a step in the right direction. They bought themselves another chance with me, because after the last episode, I had one foot out the door. Bonus points for a (much-too-short) Cricket sighting.
  15. I disagree with a bit of the logic here. Jane Fonda--one of my very favorite actresses--has two Oscars! (Klute, 1972 awards and Coming Home, 1978 awards.) There's no doubt John Wayne's Oscar was a sentimental one, but Hoffman and Voight likely split the Midnight Cowboy vote, and Wayne then cruised to victory over Oscar's (sadly) perennial bridesmaids, Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole, neither of whom ever received what should have been their sentimental awards. 😢 (At least O'Toole received an honorary Oscar.)
  16. Agreed. Yogesh's FJ embellishment, "I for one welcome our new Troy overlord," didn't sit well with me at all. It's a passive aggressive "compliment" to Troy while also insulting Ben's ability. Not to mention, completely inappropriate. I thought the rule had always been not to include anything but one's response to the clue, but that seems to have gone out the window this season in general. 😕
  17. I'm delighted that Ben won! I may have fist pumped. 😉 He's definitely the one I'm rooting for, but I'll still be very happy if Troy wins the TOC. Meanwhile, Yogesh is still a pompous ass.
  18. I have to disagree here. 1982 was one of the strongest years in Oscar history in the Best Actor category. Ostensibly, the award could have gone to any one of these legendary actors, for some of their very best roles across the board. That said, I think the Academy got it right. Kingsley, the "new kid" at the time, up against a Murderers' Row of multi-nominated and/or previous Oscar-winning actors, gave the best performance that year. Also, calling it Newman's swan song is a bit of a disservice to the actor, who continued to work consistently over many years, and of course, winning the Oscar four years later for his work in Martin Scorcese's The Color of Money. Was Newman's performance in The Verdict stronger than his performance in The Color of Money? If I were ranking them I would say yes, but that's just the way it goes with the Oscars. Was DiCaprio's performance in The Revenant his best? Was Pacino's in Scent of a Woman? Definitely not, in either case, but that's the Oscars for ya! According to this enjoyable Oscar-hierarchy article, Paul Newman is quantifyingly one of Oscar's Five Kings. Fun read!
  19. Honestly, we should all ease up on ourselves just a little bit for the entirety of Season 40 to date, because the show has been in Tournament mode most of the season. (Maybe ALL of the season? Have we had ANY regular games since September? Second Chance, Champions' Wildcard; didn't it start right from Week 1?) Anyway, everyone who has competed has minimally appeared on at least one episode of Jeopardy! As all the contestants have already had some experience with the game, I think the clues overall this season have been just a cut above, with the highest level of difficulty left for the TOC.Be kinder to yourselves! Seriously, when was the last time the board wasn't cleared? It's been weeks, (maybe even months) already!
  20. Also, on the alleged "snubs" by Emma Stone and RDJ: If people are going to give a pass to Emma (which I do) for heading over to her good friend Jennifer Lawrence in the heat of the moment, you'd also need to give the same pass to RDJ, because he and Sam Rockwell are also good friends IRL, and also worked together. If you read well upthread, about five of us here all posted at the same time that Justin Hammer was extolling the talents of Tony Stark/Iron Man, which made for a special moment!
  21. Look, I enjoy RDJ as an actor and have going all the way back to the '80s, but there was NO doubt that the man was the perfect choice to play Tony Stark because it wasn't much of a stretch for him to play!
  22. I don't know why people are thinking that Emma Stone's win was an upset. She and Lily Gladstone have been neck and neck for all of awards season. Lily wasn't even nominated for the BAFTA! Lily's chances increased after she won the SAG Award, but Emma was still within striking distance odds wise. I wanted Lily to win, but I was definitely not surprised to hear Emma's name called, especially since Poor Things won quite a few below-the-line awards. Speaking of the Best Actress award, I LOVED the introduction that Jessica Lange gave to Carey Mulligan. Everything she said was true. Carey's performance was the very best part of Maestro. She was brilliant. The Academy MUST reward her one of these years; sooner rather than later. (I knew it wouldn't be this one. 😕) She--and Marcus--seemed really moved by Jessica's words. I was, too. Oh, for anyone who hasn't had enough red carpet for the night, there's live coverage of the arrivals at the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party online.
  23. Ludwig Gorenson will win this deservedly, but my heart wishes it could go to Robbie Robertson.
  24. Obligatory mediocre Diane Warren song. Check.
  25. He's so right about the importance of documenting history.
