This was without a doubt the best episode of the series. This is what I expected from the entire show: a behind-the-scenes look at fashion. But it left so many threads hanging (pun not intended, but it's a good one). From the beginning, the show was set up as a duel between Dior and Chanel in 1955, but we never go back to 1955. Chanel is arrested in Switzerland for being a Nazi, but obviously nothing serious comes of that because in 1955 the students at the Sorbonne aren't even aware of that. A couple of facts about Chanel I got from Wiki: 1) the deal she re-negotiated with the Wertheimers did make her the richest woman in the world, and 2) when she closed her couture house during the Nazi occupation she put about 4,000 people, mostly women, out of work.

I couldn't even listen to it. Once she said "She died in front of me and she died horribly" I fast-forwarded to the next scene.

That was Charlie Berens, you should check out his YouTube stuff, he's really very funny. He plays into the Wisconsin/upper Midwest tropes, like being super polite, hating people from Illinois (like me) and shopping for every occasion at Farm and Fleet. However, he disappointed me here, he seemed really out of his element. Maybe he was just there for the beer, although based on his videos I'd say he was more of a Leinenkugel's guy.

My sympathies to Sunny on the death of her grandmother. I really thought she was going to complete this leg and then leave. Colombia is beautiful.

Who the heck did the casting for this season? I would prefer some more teams that are actually capable of competing in this race.

And the Amazing Yellow Line makes a dual appearance! First with the flight and then with the water taxis. The statement that they have to choose a water taxi and cannot switch makes me think something is going to happen. That's a lot of damn food for one meal. It looks like the Colombian version of a full English breakfast.

What I don't understand about the mold apartment is what exactly those workmen did to suddenly fix it. I thought the family would be getting a new apartment, not that someone was going to nail paneling over the moldy walls and that would make everything OK.

I haven't had a DVD player (or a computer that could play them) in years.

I don't know why they're deleting so many scenes. It's PBS, if they need an extra few minutes they can bump the schedule. Personally, I could certainly do without the second reminder of how wonderful it is to travel on a Viking longship.

I'm with you. I tuned in for an interesting look at fashion. I did not anticipate a WWII drama involving Nazi concentration camps, torture and survivor's guilt. I've begun to wonder if this is more than a single season show because we're 8 episodes into a 10 episode show and we're just now getting to what the show was advertised to be about. Fun fact: I've been reading Dior's autobiography and scene about the model applicants coming from the closed brothel houses is true.

This is probably a safe bet most of the time.
