Spoiler Discussion: The apple was poisoned?!
Katherine replied to regularlyleaded's topic in Once Upon A Time
Is it possible that they're setting up a moment where it's necessary for Regina to kill Emma but she can't do it because she now cares about her too much? I hope not, but the writers really seem to enjoy their friendship. I much prefer the speculation that this will culminate in a big scene where Regina does in fact try to kill Emma. -

My positive feelings toward this show almost entirely revolve around Hook scenes, but l'll also throw in my second favorite character: Young Baelfire. His Neverland flashbacks with Hook have already been mentioned, but I pretty much adore all of his scenes. I think the actor does a great job, and the Rumple/Young Bae relationship is one of my favorites on the show. While the writers have spent a lot of time and energy showing us Regina's descent into evil, I actually find Rumple's story with Bae a lot more compelling. -
I got Graham. He was never my favorite but I guess it could be much worse...

I didn't realize Rumbelle was nearly this popular. I know these things aren't necessarily representative of the opinions of the general audience, but still...

Good point! Yes, Sirius' treatment of Kreacher was wrong. But Hermione, Mrs. Weasley, and Dumbledore all pointing out Sirius' flaws throughout OotP seemed like a bit much to me. I really liked Harry's attachment to Sirius. No matter how flawed Sirius was, I totally bought Harry seeing him as a father figure and being completely crushed by his death. It's mentioned throughout the books that Sirius wasn't a great godfather--I think Harry himself even refers to Sirius as having been a reckless godparent--but, considering Sirius spent almost his entire adult life isolated in prison, IMO he did a pretty decent job. Sure he had his issues, but Harry was always his priority, and in the end he laid down his life to protect Harry.

I completely agree! It's sad that one of the most loyal characters of the series died with everyone thinking he betrayed his best friend.I keep hoping we'll get Sirius' complete backstory on Pottermore. I was always interested in the dynamic with his family. I think one of the reasons I found him more compelling than Snape was that he chose to actively fight against death eaters, even though he was raised in a family that believed in their cause, and even though he was protected by his pureblood status. Snape, on the other hand, loved the dark arts and seemed to fully support Voldemort, up until the point that it meant someone HE cared about could die. I loved Snape's character and his backstory, but I really never saw him as a hero or even as a decent person. In contrast to this, while Sirius was definitely a bully and was flawed in many ways, at least he recognized that Voldemort was wrong and spent his life fighting the death eaters.

I've been a diehard Harry Potter fan since I was 10, and surprisingly, the romantic relationships were always the part that interested me least. I guess I was kind of rooting for Ron and Hermione, but I wasn't overly invested in them. As for Harry/Hermione, while I can definitely understand why some people ship them, part of me always really appreciated that they remained just friends. I found it refreshing. Ginny/Harry is the relationship I had the biggest problem with. I'm actually glad JKR didn't spend more time on them because I felt like Harry's friendship with Ron and Hermione was far more important, but at the same time, it did make it difficult to get invested in them. Their relationship felt forced (and, as has already been mentioned, very rushed). When I was reading the books the first time around, I mostly stayed away from online fandom. It's only recently that I've started following HP blogs on tumblr. One of the biggest surprises for me is how big the Sirius/Lupin fandom is. Sirius is my absolute favorite character (to the point where I will never get over his death). I can see why people ship him with Lupin and it definitely would have been compelling if JKR had gone that route, but for me, Sirius' (possible) romantic relationships were the least interesting part of his character. His story was always about his friendships (mostly his friendship with James). I find it interesting that many fans consider Snape to be the most tragic character of the series. Obviously a lot of the characters experienced serious tragedy, but for some reason, it's Sirius' story that really gets to me. No matter what his flaws, he got a pretty raw deal. I also felt like JKR's writing for him in OotP was a little unfair. He was clearly depressed (understandably so) and the only character who really sympathized with him was Harry. Everyone else just kept pointing out how reckless he was. I mean, he definitely wasn't being a great godfather to Harry, but you would think people might be a little more sympathetic to someone who spent 12 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, and therefore never had a chance to grow up. Anyway, it's interesting to see fans' varying reactions to different characters, and which stories really strike a chord with them.

I'm a little embarrassed to say I got 20. Do you think this is a sign that I need to take a step back from the Gilmores?

The Writers of OUAT: Because, Um, Magic, That's Why
Katherine replied to Souris's topic in Once Upon A Time
I could be wrong but I get the feeling that Adam is more prone to trying to accommodate all sections of the fandom, maybe because he's the one who interacts with them on Twitter. I think Eddy is a little more blunt with fans - like his Swan Queen comments at Comic Con a couple of years ago. However, in interviews it's usually Eddy's comments that annoy me most (for example, his comment about not being able to give CS fans 40 minutes of kissing). IMO sometimes he comes across as a bit condescending or arrogant or something - I can't quite put my finger on it. Again, I could be totally wrong - interviews aren't the best way to get an impression of someone. As for the show's Plot!Plot!Plot! style, I suspect that comes from both Adam and Eddy. -
Past Seasons Discussion : Tales From The Crypt

This is really difficult because almost every character I love has gone downhill in the last few seasons. On the flip side, there are characters I used to dislike who are now growing to be my favorites. Overall, in no particular order: Favorites: Caroline Katherine Bonnie (mostly S6 Bonnie) Damon (when he's not with Elena or talking about Elena) Stefan (in later seasons) I was going to add Alaric to the favorites list but things I've heard about the actor kind of ruined that for me. I really did love the character in S1-3 though. Least Favorites: Klaus - I can't stand this character. I find him whiny and annoying, I don't think he has much chemistry with anyone, including Caroline, and I don't particularly enjoy the acting. He's the reason I haven't given The Originals a chance, even though I've heard it's really well done. Rebekkah - mostly the same reasons I don't like Klaus. Elena - I liked her in the early seasons but she became unbearable in the later ones. Damon (whenever he is around Elena or talking about Elena, which is more and more frequently as the years go on) Enzo - I think sometimes Julie Plec's love for certain actors clouds her judgement on whether the character is working. -

Sorry! I did read your post - mine was meant in agreement with yours :) As for how many times Marty pops up...I would guess maybe a dozen?
-
I always wondered what the writers' intentions were with the character of Marty. Was the plan always for him to have an unrequited crush on Rory? Or was he just supposed to be a college friend for her? Was there any potential for him becoming a serious love interest--maybe even endgame potential, depending on fan response?

Katherine is probably the character I would most want back. I thought they could have done a lot more with her storyline after she took the cure. I wouldn't want her in every episode, but I liked how she would pop up every now and then. -
This is painful. I'm gonna have to go with That Damn Donna Reed and Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days (I'm not giving up on this one ;) ).

Past Seasons Discussion : Tales From The Crypt

I love discussing this show and hearing everyone's thoughts :) Amensisterfriend, I agree the writers didn't intend for us to see Elena as selfish. But in the last few seasons it seems like she manages to make absolutely everything about herself, to the point where it's hard to believe that the writers themselves couldn't see it. I remember in season 4 (I think?) they tried to hit us over the head with Elena's "compassion", but IMO Caroline and Bonnie were much more compassionate characters (and maybe S1 & S2 Elena as well). As for the best season for each character, I think S1 was best for both Damon and Alaric. S1 and S2 were best for Elena, IMO--she was proactive, she wasn't struggling to decide between the brothers, and she seemed to be a good friend and sister (excluding the speed with which she forgave Damon for killing her brother). Stefan, on the other hand, I prefer in the later seasons, probably largely because he finally starts to move on from Elena. It's interesting. I always used to prefer Damon as a character over Stefan. Mostly I just found Stefan really boring. It wasn't until later seasons that I started to appreciate him more. His most consistent trait is that he always puts Damon first. Damon, on the other hand, tends to put Elena first. I was really hoping that S6 would end with Damon choosing to stay a vampire to stick with Stefan, and Elena leaving town as a human. As for other characters: I think Caroline was definitely at her best in S2. I enjoyed Bonnie the most in S6. Jeremy has always been a bit of a bore for me. I found Tyler's S2 story really compelling and I really used to root for him and Caroline. I loved the development of their friendship. Unfortunately later seasons ruined their dynamic for me, so now I'm more interested in the Caroline/Stefan relationship. I like how it's been slowly built up over the seasons. It's a nice change compared to the epic 'soulmates' feel of the other relationships on this show. I also appreciate the fact that Caroline is not a Petrova doppelganger. -

The relationship between the Salvatore brothers is the only relationship I really care about. I do enjoy Bonnie and Damon's friendship (and would probably ship it romantically if they went there, even though Bonnie totally deserves better) and I actually like Caroline and Stefan a lot more than I was expecting to, but my ideal ending is for the brothers to walk off into the sunset together. IMO their relationship is the heart of the show, and I feel like that often gets overlooked in favor of ships. One couple that I absolutely do NOT want to end up together is Damon and Elena. I used to love the idea of them, but their development has been so poorly done, to the point where I really have no idea what they see in each other and what the basis of their relationship is, other than physical attraction. The fact that the writers seem to be writing a lot of Delena moments to pacify certain vocal fans kind of makes me dislike the pairing even more. But maybe my perception of that is completely wrong. -

I have trouble picking between seasons 1 and 2. On one hand, season 1 had a slow start, whereas season 2 was solid all the way through. Season 2 also had a lot of great Caroline and Katherine moments. But season 1 was the best Damon season - 2 was when he started to go downhill, IMO. For now I think l'll give a slight edge to season 1, in large part because of the finale. 1 2 3 6 4 5 -
One is the Loneliest Number: Unpopular GG Opinions
Katherine replied to mstaken's topic in Gilmore Girls
For me there are a few main reasons the Rory/Logan pairing always irked me, many of which have already been articulated here: -the lack of chemistry. I just saw no spark whatsoever. Contrast this with Rory/Jess, who had amazing chemistry, IMO -- chemistry that led to me overlooking the obvious flaws in their relationship. -the pairing happened to coincide with Rory becoming less and less likeable to me. I just felt like her relationship with Logan contributed to her behaving in a way that seasons 1-4 Rory never would have. I get that they were trying to show that Rory was being exposed to a new world, but I just didn't find it to be realistic character development. I guess the poor writing is a lot more to blame than the character of Logan. -I'm sure MC is a lovely guy but his acting just doesn't do it for me. -I find the whole rich bad boy character cliched and overdone. I know, I'm a bit of a hypocrite with this one, seeing as how I'm a huge fan of tortured bad boy Jess. That being said, I do much prefer Rory/Logan to Rory/Dean.
