  1. Feel free to add any old quotes here! Quotes from S10.E17: Do You Know? Alex: You got a dog? Cristina: Yes. Alex: That thing's going to be dead in a week. Ross: You named your dog Mrs. Rodriguez? Cristina: When you meet him, you'll understand. Alex: Meet him soon before he dies. Cristina: So now we're back where we started. I never give you anything so the terms under which we're together are that your dreams die. Cristina: Do you know who you are? Do you know what has happened to you? Do you want to live this way?
  2. Yes, this is one of my favorite aspects of the show. I hate when the Project Runway judges justify keeping a designer by saying, "I still want to see what they'll do next week." I prefer the GBSB judges using only what I sewers did this week. I like that they don't even take into account what the sewers have done in previous challenges. It seems fairer.
  3. It's actually pretty fitting since they make the winners sing horrible songs. I guess the theme song was a warning.
  4. Oh, yeah. The AI theme was embarrassing even back in its first season, but now over a decade later it's even worse. I can imagine kids asking their parents twenty years from now, "Did people actually think that was cool?" and the parents saying, "Gawd, no! No one ever thought it was cool - except maybe the producers."
  5. For me, it's maddening that they do things like fly two actors to San Francisco so they can shoot a 30 second scene of them driving across the Bay Bridge (because the show wants to be authentic in their locations) but then shoots establishing shots that show the Solano Avenue street sign (don't get me started on the fake cable car that went by) or lingering for several seconds on the Chez Michelle sign before Julia entered. Locals will know they're fake and non-locals don't need to see the signs in order to believe that yes, they're still in San Francisco. If they just left out those establishing shots, I wouldn't question where they were (and I wouldn't complain, I swear!). Adding them is a pointless waste of time, especially since they're only doing it to lend authenticity. Like New York, San Francisco is not a large sprawling town so if you start making up street names, anyone who is familiar with the area is going to know.
  6. Which later became the best answering machine message of all time: "Believe it or not, George isn't at home!"I love the theme songs for both Buffy and Angel because they manage to capture the energy and tone of each show. Buffy's is frantic and frenetic with a driving beat while Angel's is slower, moodier, and slightly more mysterious. I also liked the theme to Dharma and Greg for the same reason (and because it was so short, which was very unusual back then). It was airy and light hearted like Dharma. For expositional theme song, I love the one for Psych. It not only gives you premise of the show ("I know you know that I'm not telling the truth") but the song itself is like Shawn: silly, repetitive, and fun but slightly annoying if you're exposed to it too much. I love the theme song to So You Think You Can Dance. I know it's ridiculous but I can't help it. I love the theme song for the British series Some Girls. It's so cute and catchy! I, too, hate the theme song for Homeless. It's just jazz plus noise (which I realize is a redundant description to people who don't like jazz). I'm sad that so many shows these days either don't have theme songs. I used to love singing along to them. Family Ties, Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, Three's Company, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley - I still remember the words to all of them! I must confess that I used to think the theme song to each show was sung by the cast. I blame the Brady Bunch for that.
  7. Two of my all time favorite tv moments wouldn't be the same without the accompanying music: (1) The episode of The Wonder Years where Winnie starts hanging out with the older kids and gets into a car accident and Kevin climbs up to her window while "We've Got Tonight" plays. (2) Jordan asks Angela if she wants to go somewhere and takes her hand while "Late at Night" by Buffalo Tom plays. Honorable MSCL mention ones to Rickie and Delia dancing to "What Is Love" at the World Happiness Dance (before it was used on SNL!). Sheena, I still tear up thinking about that episode and I cry whenever that song comes up on my playlist. Dougal, for me the two big musical moments on Veronica Mars were "Momentary Thing" by Something Happens (when Logan kisses Veronica after punching that Home Improvement kid) and "Lily Dreams On" by Cotton Mather (after Veronics figures out who killed Lily and dreams about her).
  8. I'm not a sewer (but my mom and some of my friends are great sewers) so I can't imagine trying to sew something on an 80 year old machine! Interesting to see that half of the sewers had experience with the old ones. When Heather said she used one back in school, it reminded me of when I took a typing class in middle school and they had manual (non-electric) typewriters and we all longed for electric typewriters. I loved that Lynda explained how to create a placket to both Tamara and Chinelo. I know I always compare this show to Project Runway, but it's because I used to love PR and I feel like the focus has gone from design and construction to finding contestants who will cause drama. I love that the sewers on The Great British Sewing Bee want to win but still don't hesitate to help each other. Hee, I loved Lynda telling herself to calm down because it's only a blouse. She seems to have a good attitude. Once again, I loved the judges explaining to the camera exactly what the sewers need to do and what will happen if they don't (like gathering only between the points on the pattern). And I like that when something is done incorrectly, they don't just point out the flaw but they explain why, like Dave's collar. We can see that it's popping up, but as a non-sewer, I have no idea why, so I'm glad that the judges explained it was because the seam on the inside was too tight. As an American, the British judging is hilarious to me. They are so nice, even when they're being critical. Instead of saying something is bad, they say it's not good. "The level of finish is not terrific, I'm afraid." "I think we've seen you do better work and we'll just leave it at that." I felt bad that everyone had to bundle up to have coffee outside. It must have been so cold! The 1930s blouse they made was adorable. I loved the navy and white polka dot fabric that David chose. Heather's blouse looked beautiful. She deserved to win this challenge. I always wonder how the judges prefer a finished product that isn't done as well or an unfinished product with better technique. This week, they chose the latter. Poor David was in last even though he finished and Lynda squeaked past him even though her top still had pins in it. Her cheekiness with Patrick continues to amuse me. Love their attitudes about finishing so low. David refused to blame the equipment because he knew it was his performance. Lynda said she talks too much and messes around too much (which is true, but it hasn't been as much of a problem in the past as she often finishes before everyone else). Chinelo looked really miffed that she came in second even though they pointed out the problem with her collar. Loved the make do and mend challenge - practical and fit with this week's theme. The judges specified that the finished item had to be a women's article of clothing. I wonder if that's a result of some of the sewers making child sized garments for the repurposing challenge in past weeks. I liked that they couldn't use extra fabric or trim from the habberdashery this time. Interesting to watch the different approaches (Chinelo taking the entire suit apart first vs Tamara deciding what to make and then only using the jacket). Glad the judges could see where the parts of Chinelo's dress came from. It fit the mannequin well and looked very flattering. Heather's top looked a little too loose/sloppy in the front but I liked the back. When David said he might make his top into a dress, I laughed because it reminded me of Paris Hilton wearing dresses that I think should be shirts. Lynda's pinafore was simple but I liked how she used only the pants for everything but the straps. Tamara's looked interesting but it had too much going on for my taste. Heh, I didn't know "jacketness" was a word. I love coats so I was excited about this challenge. Interesting that the judges let the sewers bring their fabric precut. Sweet to see Lynda tear up about her mom. I was worried about David as soon as he said he was making a police coat. The sketch looked like the design would require perfect tailoring and show any imperfection. I felt bad that the fabric he bought over the phone was so thick. Interesting to see Tamara stick to 60s methods while Chinelo used fusable interfacing. I liked Lynda's coat in theory and it looked well sewn, but it looked better in the sketch. David's buttons were a bit crooked to my eye which was distracting. Loved Tamara's yellow coat. When I first saw the fabric I wasn't sure about it, but it was perfect for the 60s princess seamed coat she made. Great that she covered the buttons with her silk lining! Heather's swing coat was like Lynda's for me - good in theory but I didn't love it. Loved the pattern Chinelo chose (great shape, great fabric drape, great fit) but the hem was really obviously uneven. So sweet to see everyone with their arms around each other during judging. It was time for David to go. I'll be interested to see who is eliminated next week.
  9. I knew that Bob Little on Parenthood was creepy but man, I didn't think he was THAT creepy. He went from sexing up his intern to killing the bailiff and almost killing Hannibal! Poor Beverly. I knew she was a goner at the end of the previous episode but I had hoped against all hope that she somehow got away. That was brutal. And poor Jack. He's in the middle of dealing with his wife and then loses Beverly in such a terrible way. That guy can't catch a break.
  10. Because we need the snark! I will admit that I prefer the quotes from previous seasons, so feel free to add those here! From S05E17: Rescue Me: Enzo: Atlanta Assassination Squad. How may we be of service? Damon: Tyler Lockwood's now a life coach despite running his own life into the ground. Liv: Bottle of gin and let me see you break the seal. What can I say? I got issues. Damon: Well, pull up a chair, girl, and talk to the professionals. Just make sure to talk slow and use small words. Liv: Never. Ever. Enzo: Modern women - all bosom, no mystery. Present company excluded. Caroline: Dear God, please don't tell me that I'm the real reason that you're here. Enzo: Why not? From Damon tells me, I am your type: well traveled, charming accent, dodgy morals. Caroline: Arrogant, tactless, completely unable to take a hint. Enzo: Precisely. Liv: Turns out Elena's friends are right. The world actually does revolve around her. Damon: I saw [Liv] and Jeremy sharing a top shelf bottle of inhibition killer at the Grille this morning. Elena: Jeremy wouldn't [cheat on] Bonnie. Damon: Need I remind you he once had an affair with a ghost? The only thing that was missing was a sappy love song and a pottery wheel. Enzo: Seventy years in a cage, you think I'd learn to pick a lock by now. Damon: Little tip: if you're gonna show up to kill someone, don't waste time feeling bad about it. Damon: You do not get to tell me what to do anymore. We broke up. Elena: This is exactly why we broke up. Please tell me you understand that. Liv: Oh my GOD, just kill me already. Luke: Who are you? Matt: Friends of Jeremy and Elena. Tyler: Even Damon. Sometimes.
  11. Ahhh, TV land, where girls put their bras on their chests and then reach behind their backs to fasten them. And you can talk about killing doppelgangers at full volume in a restaurant without the people at the table next to you overhearing. And you can talk about how you broke up with your boyfriend and then boned him while standing in line for your brother's parent-teacher conference surrounded by parents and no one hears a word! When Caroline said she couldn't kill Tom, even to save Stefan, all I could think was oh gawd, now they're going to give Caroline the Elena treatment with the "I'm such a good person and my humanity is my weakness!" She even told Enzo that she's a good vampire (which made me think of Glinda asking Dorothy if she was a good witch or a bad witch). Never mind that she has killed before, but she just can't kill someone who has Stefan's sweet little face. Ugh. So her solution was to let Tom run away to live somewhere else and then let the travelers kill her BFF Stefan? I'm not saying she SHOULD have killed Tom, but if she can't live with the guilt of killing Tom herself then how could she live with the guilt of knowing she let her best friend be murdered by the travelers? Also annoying - when Elena told Damon, "It's not just that we're bad for each other. It's that when we're together, we do bad things for each other. And I can't live like that." Oh, so it's okay for everyone else to do bad things to save Elena? Just not Damon? I'm at the point where I feel like everyone on this show is a big fat hypocritical jerk so there's no one left for me to root for or side with. If the show had the balls to kill any of them off, I wouldn't care. which is sad because in S1 i would have been gutted if any of these characters had been killed off. Now my reaction would be more along the lines of ehhhh, they had it coming (plus I can't believe that any of the main characters stay dead on this show). Maybe I'm just still sad about TWoP closing and I can't think straight. Actually, I'm sadder about that than I would be if TVD got canceled or half the main cast got killed off. I don't know if that says more about how much I loveTWoP or how much I don't like TVD anymore. Of all the people who are left, Jeremy is the only one who I want to live no matter what. I'm not clear on why he was so set on Damon not killing Liv, believing Liv when she was clearly still keeping things from him, etc. but I can at least understand why he's moving out given that his alternative is staying with Damon and Elena at Mossy Manse while they continue to fight/break up/have sex, And hey, he's just moving into a different mansion so it's not like he's downgrading to some crappy shack. Plus he's moving into a mansion with two other dudes and no adult supervision! Now Elena won't side eye him every time he drinks! I wasn't crazy about Liv during her first few episodes but if she's going to keep snarking on the NSDR, then let's keep her! I loved when Damon told her to pull up a chair and talk to the Mystic Falls amateur therapists and she said, "Never - EVER." But even better was when Damon took a break from torturing her to have another spat with Elena and Liv just said in the most exasperated tone, "OMG, just kill me already!" She reminds me of S2/S4 Spike on Buffy, totally annoyed that he has to put up with these idiots even when they're about to kill him. It actually took me almost two hours to watch this episode. I kept stopping it because I was bored/annoyed/exasperated with these dummies. When Enzo snapped Tom's neck, I thought FINALLY, now can we be done with this "Caroline is too nice to kill the doppelganger" plot? What would happen if Caroline had to choose between killing Tom or her other BFF Elena? So mixing Stefan and Elena's blood together is the traveler equivalent of drinking the kool-aid? I loved Liv's anti-eavesdropping spell. It's about time someone used one of those, especially since everyone on this show insists on having private conversations about top secret/supernatural stuff in public and/or within earshot of supernaturals with extra super good hearing/whoever isn't supposed to hear their top secret info. Her big hair reminds me of Natasha Lyonne and Fauxmanda Clarke on Revenge. Maybe Liv's hair is so big because it's full of secrets. I couldn't believe that Elena was comparing Jeremy ditching school to, well, pretty much every decision she has ever made on this show. It wasn't even a matter of the pot calling the kettle black. It was like the pot calling the kettle a big dumb stupid refrigerator. It made no sense at all.
  12. Once again, Max gets to call all the shots AND show no respect for other people's boundaries. Yup, just barge into your parents' bedroom and announce that you're never going back to school. Yes, bullying is a serious issue but OMG. I understand Kristina and Adam's frustration but at the same time, they are so one sided, defensive, and accusatory about everything that concerns Max that it's hard to take their complaining seriously anymore. When Max told Amber he doesn't need to go back to school because he is smarter than all this teachers and the Luncheonette has better snacks, Adam just stood in the back smiling like this is something to be proud of. NO. When Amber tried to relate to him by saying she had a rough time in middle school too, Max just said, "Not this rough." How would you know that, Max? You didn't even give her a chance to tell her what happened when she was in middle school. But of course he doesn't need to hear that. He knows he is such a special snowflake that no one has ever endured the pain of what he has had to put up with. Why would Adam have Max bring a bag with a wetsuit down to the beach instead of having him change in the van or at the Luncheonette? As a long time resident of California, I know how to change from regular clothes into a bathing suit (and vice versa) in public while holding a towel around myself, but I'm pretty sure Max doesn't know how to do that yet and there is no reason why he should be getting naked on public beach (no matter how deserted it is) when he doesn't have to. Adam taking Max surfing is just another example of the crappy parenting that Max gets. Kristina was right to be upset with Adam. Even Max knew he was supposed to do schoolwork until 3pm. Why not let him keep working until 3pm and then go surfing afterward? The Luncheonette must be doing dismally if Crosby can take off for a few days to road trip with Zeke while Adam leaves in the middle of the day to take Max surfing. Drew's inexperience babysitting was laughable. It's obvious that Haddie and Amber were the only cousins in that entire clan who got stuck babysitting. I can't believe he got paid $40 to babysit though. I remember when I was in middle school, I got paid $2/hr to babysit the three kids across the street. Like an idiot, I thought that was good money. The only good thing he did was yell at them to stop fighting. After that, his complete lack of authority was obvious. I don't understand why the show goes out of its way to show specific signs to establish locations that don't exist. According to google, there is no Solano Avenue (where Amber ran into Mr. Cyr) or Chez Michelle restaurant in San Francisco. Joel is an idiot. He offered to pay but didn't know how much it was going to be? You saw the menu when you ordered, right? If he is paying for the house and the apartment, does he really have an extra $468 to spend on dinner? Sarah, ugh. She said hi to Mark FIVE TIMES when she arrived for dinner. Please STFU with the awkward stuttering. Edited to add line breaks. Now it doesn't look like one giant paragraph!
  13. S02.E07: Semi-Finals There's sewing! And it's British! It's like the complete opposite of Project Runway - but in a good way!
  14. I'm going to imagine Lady Eloise purring, "Maaaaaaarcuuuuus," until his inevitable demise.
  15. This show has been just okay to me this season (and last season) but this episode reminded me that when the show is firing on all cylinders, it's capable of being really good. Once everyone started running in and out of the three hotel rooms, they did the kind of comedy they're good at.
