Spoilers and Spoiler Speculation: Benchmarking
Deanie87 replied to stopthestatic's topic in Grey's Anatomy
I didn't watch PP and Amelia isn't one of my favorite, so I probably don't pay as much attention to her as I should, but is her drug use the reason why the baby developed without a brain? Is that why she said that Owen will hate her? I thought it was because she was glad that she wasn't pregnant. I guess I am yet another one with questions. I think that the Greys writers assume that the majority watched PP and they shortcut her character quite a bit. Its one of the reasons I didn't warm to her when she was added, I didn't want to have to go watch another show just to "understand" who Amelia really was. If they can't show us a characters motivations (and lets be honest, they really can't these days see: Jo), why should I bother doing their work for them. -
Yeah, like the party host said, "They're together, but like, they're not really together, know what I'm saying?" LOL! It seems to be their pattern, and while I wouldn't say it necessarily works for them, I understand it. But they're going to have to get their shit together as Lottie gets older, because that kind of relationship isn't really fair to her, not knowing if her parents are together or not, its just too confusing. I thought this was a great season finale, and not only because I knew more than one song! ("Ride wit Me" IS Beyonce's best song!) I loved the Chik Fil A (?) inspired cows walking around for Free Chicken Sandwich Day, but how did Earn get one with no costume? No fair! And as always, Darius is the idiot savant that we all need in our lives. "How do they catch the curry goats?" And one thing is clear, I don't spend near enough time hanging out on a couch in the middle of a field. Paper Boi is hit or miss for me, but I liked him in this episode. From the washcloth on his head during the couch time to his secret spidey sense that something was about to go down at the Uber driver's house. I am not really sure how to take all of the non-reactions to the guy getting shot in the back. Either by the cops or by Earn and friends.

I need all secrets to be spilled, like, yesterday. Psycho husbands, secret car banging, dead, brainless babies....ENOUGH! Everyone in every scenario looks stupid and immature at this point (that may be a bit too harsh when it comes to Amelia), and their secrets, however necessary or well intentioned, are making everything worse. So hopefully, the finale will just be people sitting around vomiting out all of their deepest, darkest, dumbest secrets and we can deal with the fall out finally. And by finally, I mean 2-3 months later. Blergh. -

It's possible that DeLuca's feelings aren't reciprocated. The absolute last thing that Jo needs is to get entangled in another relationship. I'm hoping that they aren't going there and it's more just a one-sided thing. -

Maybe Arizona's new love interest is some how connected to Alex's trial. I assume Stephanie's refers to Chief Resident, although JH gave an interview seasons ago about Stephanie having already won it. -
Alex and Maggie would be just as bad as Alex and Meredith for me, maybe worse. Maggie looks at Alex with barely concealed disgust and I can't possibly imagine her being able to handle any part of Alex's dysfunction and darkness. I also can't imagine him having the patience to deal with her emotional immaturity for more than 5 minutes. At least with Mer and Alex I could believe it, as much as I wouldn't like it. Maggie/Alex would be completely unbelievable to me. What makes me feel a little better about the Mer/Alex situation is that I didn't see any kind of sexual undertones or passion in that last scene, and that is very unlike Grey's. It seemed to me more like resigned settling for companionship than any kind of great passion. And I do think that would be how it would turn out if they went there. That would be great if they were 65-70 years old and had raised families of their own, etc., but they are both young and Alex hasn't had a family yet. So while it wouldn't surprise me if they were laying the groundwork, I don't think its a done deal.

At the risk of sounding like a whiny Alex fan (I know, too late!), its kind of a "Be Careful What You Wish" situation for me. He screentime has been great and I have enjoyed most of his storyline thus far (though would love for it to go a bit deeper), him being a leading man to nearly every single female on the show other than his years long girlfriend, isn't really what I had hoped for. I'm hoping that will change by the end of the season. I kind of think that, like Jo and Alex as a couple, its like they never existed. I would love to hear him refer to them every once in awhile, but I understand him wanting to keep his distance from people who will only drag him down, as mean as that may seem. -

Not sure what decisions Alex will be making, but I have a feeling it may concern Mer's kids and their future. Maybe he will leave his hospital shares to them, even though they are already richer than God and his biological family could sorely use the money. I would love it if they get mentioned at all, but I doubt they will. Or if it somehow involves paying off DeLuca's medical bills or paying off the loft mortgage. Maybe it won't involve money at all. I also hope that this doesn't mean that the trial won't begin until after the hiatus. -
I think that they will slide Maggie place for Riggs, Jo and DeLuca will get together and then Alex and Mer. Its the laziest and easiest way to do it, so why not? I agree about the Alex stuff. Whatever kind of "redemption" they are trying to pull off isn't working because we already know that he is a great doctor. We've known for years. And apparently he is great with Meredith and Amelia, but who cares? That's irrelevant to what his supposed "storyline" is about. He has gotten pissy with Bailey and Arizona, gave a half-assed apology to Jo that didn't even address the awful stuff he said to her, and hasn't even looked in DeLuca's direction at all. I know that they aren't supposed to talk about the court case, but I wish he would focus his regretful gaze on someone besides himself and that lady's hand rash. At this rate, Jo's husband stuff will come out at trial and he will come off as more of a victim than ever before, without ever having been sorry for what got him there in the first place. If he isn't ordered to go through some kind of anger management or therapy and have real personal growth, then this storyline is a fail to me, no matter how perfect and saintly of a doctor and friend they make him.

I don't actually think that the writers or Shonda hate anyone, but I do think that they have their favorites and Jo has never been one of them, and Alex is now only one of them because Cristina, Derek and Callie are gone. All of his decent scenes are centered around Meredith and the sisters. I think that Justin is pretty laid back and takes the storylines as they come, but Camilla seems really, really invested in her character. She has mentioned calling the writers and questioning them about things numerous times and even mentioned reading books on domestic violence in preparation for an arc that may never come. For her sake, I hope she gets to use some of that. You would think that after dealing with actors who acted out and disrupted things because they just wanted off the show so badly, that Shonda would appreciate, if not reward, this level of enthusiasm, but apparently not. At this point, I am starting to think that they will drop the bombshell about the husband at trial, Alex will decide that he can't forgive her (making her the bad guy), and it will all get dropped. She will move on with DeLuca and they will lay the groundwork for Alex and Mer to discover their "feelings" for each other in the finale. Oh my god, my fingers cramped just writing that. Its a long season, so maybe I am just being paranoid about it, but they aren't really planting any seeds for another outcome, at least not at this point. I thought for sure it was going to be that April was going to start dating again and trying to move on while living with Jackson. Once again, Jackson and April seem so far removed from everyone else. -
*Sigh* I have never, ever, ever really believed that they were going to go there. Until tonight, and honestly that thought bums me out so much that I couldn't even really enjoy this episode, as great as it was for Alex and as much as I did like their friendship scenes. Between the complete lack of any kind of Jo/Alex development after all the build up, this new DeLuca angle and Alex's conversation with the soon to be dad in the clinic, where the dad goes on and on about his best friend and how she has always been there, blah blah. *Sigh* I think it may be happening and it is just a deal breaker for me. NOW Alex is getting good screentime but I feel that its just to get him ready to step in as the Leading Man for all of the sisters, until they move on and its just he and Meredith settling for one another. He can forgo having a family of his own because he has Maggie(!) and Amelia(!!) and Meredith, and oh yeah, he can raise the kids of a guy who never respected him and thought so little of him. Awesome. He defended Amelia of all people, who he barely knows, yet allowed Meredith to call Jo a hoodlum, a tramp and basically dismiss their relationship for years. I would desperately love to be wrong about this, (and am willing to be talked out of it if possible) but the writing seems to be on the wall here. I am bitter and unhappy. *Sigh* Also, Leah is apparently the second coming of Maggie who is the second coming of the one and only Cristina Yang. What a shock. Also, I like Jo's hair better curly and DeLuca with scruff. Thank god Alex looks better than he has in years, so there is that. Just in time to bang Meredith. UGH SORRY I CAN"T HELP IT! And now they're coming for Richard. Is it too late to go back and never start watching this show?

Yep. Penny was the new Maggie and Leah will be the new Penny. An unnecessary character brought in/back for no discernible reason, who shines like the sun (but not nearly as bright as The Sun) and sucks up screentime and storyline, while other characters who have been there twice as long molder in the background. Before you know it, Alex will be cracking up at her jokes and defending her to Jo and Steph. I have no doubt. Can't wait. -
I didn't hate this one, but I am missing the whole ensemble together. Jimmy is my favorite character and at this point it seems like every other male on the show has gotten more screentime and more to do this season, which really bums me out. My absolute favorite part was Vernon saying, "I've seen The Grey. I ain't bottle fightin' no wolfs!" (Pronounced "woofs"). It was in all the promos and made me laugh every single time.

There was a BTS shot of Camilla and JCap and the clapper thing said 13.13. They were in a car, so its even more weird that they would be filming early if it was to hide the pregnancy. Of course, more could have been going on in that episode and that was the only scene that they showed. -

I think that the only one was Bailey's when Chandra Wilson was pregnant. I believe that CL's contract may be up this year (if she signed for 5 years) but I don't think that she's leaving unless it was decided a long time ago. From everything I've read, Greys is an incredible place for working mothers and I can't see Camilla wanting to leave that atmosphere. Plus, if her leaving was already decided upon by both parties, Grey's probably wouldn't want to risk "firing" or not renewing the contract of a pregnant woman. My guess is that the pregnancy won't be written in and she will just film things early (like that scene that CED9 mentioned). I'm happy for her, and selfishly I hope that this gets her storyline moving! -
Well, maybe he didn't mean the part about not being able to look at another woman, since clearly... And the cheek kiss right after that was the icing on that cake. But I do think that he meant the stuff about how hard she works, taking care of their kid and having a job (or did anyway). Its true, he would be blind if he didn't see how much more she puts into their co-parenting than he does.

Ew, and I kept thinking about the fact that he hadn't showered. Well, at least Van had all that vodka to sterilize some of that. I agree that I hope she is on the Pill at the very least. This episode did cement my love for these guys and I think that Earn meant every word that he said about Van to those women. But I don't think that Van believed he did and that's why she said he was mean. Aw. That's what I thought too. So I'm glad that he told her that he wouldn't be back. I didn't care for her at all. I had to fast forward the Slam Poetry stuff because I was so mortified. I loved that his name was Craig and I loved that he looked so much like Gary Cole, because that was Gary Cole role if I ever saw one! Now I want him to meet Paper Boi and Darius LOL! "Put some smiles on your face. This is a party not an orphanage." HA!

Sorry for the double post! I see what you are saying here and if things hadn't been going on for so long already, and if they hadn't had so many storylines started and then drawn out/dropped already I would be okay with this. But as it is, its just starting to bore me, and if its boring ME, I can't imagine how others must feel about it. The only way that would be logical for the husband to appear after the trial is if it somehow makes the national news, which I don't know why it would. And even then, Jo has changed her name, so unless the husband or his minions see a picture of her it won't make sense. As far as Jo having lied about her name (in other words, if she hasn't changed it legally), I just don't think that this is something that the character can withstand. As it is, they are making her extremely unlikable by having her lead Alex on about marriage (regardless of why she did it), giving her absolutely no point of view or context for her actions, and then having her do nothing but complain nearly every time she is onscreen. I like Jo, but her "redemption" needs to start sooner rather than later, and since they are apparently not interested in showing her as any kind of real surgeon or giving her a mentor, then they need to get her past and personal life cleared up quick. Giving the whole hospital a real reason to distrust and or dislike her (even more than the nonsensical reasons they all apparently do now), will be the final nail in the character's coffin. I think that her character has a lot of potential, both alone and with Alex, so that will be real shame, IMO. -
Who is your favorite couple?
Deanie87 replied to project90's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
Okay, I am now fully on board the Frank and Bonnie train, which is crazy because I didn't even really like either one of them until the last episode. I don't like Laurel for some reason and I hope that she is not carrying Frank's baby for many reasons, but mainly because now I want Frank and Bonnie to be together in dysfunctional Bonnie & Clyde fashion. I also like Connor and Oliver, but my secret "it will never happen ship" is Connor and Michaela! In season one I was hoping that Connor was bisexual because I think that the two actors have incredible chemistry and I often found myself yelling "Make Out" at them when they would fight. Asher just bugs the hell out of me and is so below Bonnie and Michaela its not even funny. I have no idea what two grown ass women, both of whom Have Seen Some Things, see in him at all. -

You know, the Originals. *Rolls eyes* I have no problem with Stephanie getting something to do and I am glad that Richard, especially, will get some more backstory, but this season seems to be shaping up like the last two and I find that greatly disappointing. Once again, having the mid season finale so early in the season screws up the natural flow of the storytelling. I know that I've mentioned this before, but seriously, Alex "proposed" to Jo for the first time back in season TEN! This bullshit has been going on for nearly three seasons now and is still not fully fleshed out. They get the beginnings of some kind of story, it gets ramped up, then dropped, then a cliffhanger, and then usually nothing, and then a few stand alone "gimmicky" episodes are sprinkled in right as everything is getting going again. At this rate, I assume that Alex will find out about the husband at the trial, which I thought would be in the mid-season finale, but I'm not so sure now, and then nothing will happen about it until the finale when the husband finally shows up and we start the whole, drawn out, boring process again next season. And another thing...there are promo pictures of all of the residents and DeLuca and Leah together. So I assume that DeLuca is now just going to be part of the Resident class and they STILL haven't even mentioned the Boards. -

I haven't been too impatient because I assumed that the Jo and Jo/Alex stuff was going to come up in the mid-season finale (episode 13.09). But from the descriptions/info that I have read for the episodes it doesn't sound like that storyline is happening in the mid-season finale. I thought for sure it would be the trail, but maybe not. I mean, this husband/marriage/Jo's past stuff has been going on for over 2 seasons now. WTF. -
As of right now, I am okay that the domestic violence stuff hasn't been broached yet. Yes, we are 5 episodes in already, but that is 5 out of 24. They have a lot of time to fill. My biggest irritation is how they are writing Jo in the meantime. I will begin by saying that I do like Jo and I think a lot of the criticism is over the top for the "crimes" that she actually commits. But outside of her scenes with DeLuca, I am just not enjoying her character that much lately. At this point, the majority of her scenes are just her looking annoyed and being negative about something. I would say that 80% of the dialogue that she is given is her complaining about something. Sometimes its warranted and sometimes its not, but when that is ALL you get, then the character suffers a lot. And I know that this is on the writers, but at some point, it doesn't matter why I'm not enjoying a character, I'm just not. Eventually I'm just not going to care enough to do the work of trying to figure out her point of view or her motivation for something when you get one out of nowhere snippet of information and then its never mentioned again. At this point, I would rather she just not appear in an episode than for her to get a little bit of something that just makes her character seem unlikable. If they would just give her a small scene of her being a competent doctor, being funny or being a good friend, then it would balance out some of the negativity, but they just don't. I thought that she was good in the first episode, and I totally got where she was coming from, but each episode after that has been disappointing. I totally understand why people don't like her, though you would think that she was the anti-christ the way some people and media go on and on about it. Having said all of that, I am liking her friendship scenes with DeLuca and hope they continue, because it is the only time that I have enjoyed her scenes for the most part. Yes, she was complain-y in this episode, but DeLuca at least called her out on it and she laughed about it didn't deny it. She was introduced as a funny, snarky, tough character and she needs to get some of that back in order for me to start really enjoying her like I used to. She has some of that with DeLuca right now and I just hope that the upcoming drama with the lawsuit, etc., doesn't ruin it, because she needs to keep that side of her. I don't think that I would be so hard on her this season for being unhappy and negative if we hadn't just gone through two seasons of her being that way. And again, I understand that its the writing, but that's all we have to work with right now.
