I agree. Its very in character for Dean to go with the option that will leave the person alive and deal with any potential negative consequences later time. He's seen Garth and Benny as examples that you can live as monster. Also Sam isn't really in a position to judge Dean here since he lied to Dean for weeks about where he was getting cases from. He took away Dean's choice about whether or not he wanted to work for the men of letters. So IMO, the show needs to address this if we're supposed to see this as character growth for Dean, otherwise its a double standard. There are only two explanations I can think of. Either Sam really didn't care about the werewolves and he only said it to placate Dean since he knows Dean doesn't really want to be there and is looking for an excuse to bale, or its because werewolves are more personal to Sam. He doesn't know any vampires so he's not all that bothered if they're gone, but he is friends with a werewolf. Wipe them all out and you wipe out Garth too.

I don't think Dean was trying to deny Claire's right to choose. I think he was just scared of losing someone else he cares about. Living as a good werewolf can be done whereas the cure Mick was offering was unproven and also coming from a source Dean doesn't trust. A very high chance of death. I think it was more about him wanting Claire to choose the option that gave her a greatest chance at survival. When we're scared its a natural reaction to want to attempt to want to regain control, even it means saying or doing something in the heat of the moment. Dean backed down fairly quickly. Which we've seen him do before. It reminds me of the situation in Bloody Mary when Sam wanted to play bait. Dean was no, I don't like it it. Then Sam points out its the best way, Dean backed down and Sam played bait. So its not like Dean is a brick wall in these situations or has never changed his tune before. Dean doesn't like to see those he loves in danger or hurting. I think it was far more about that than simply trying to control Claire.

One of my favorite things about Dean is his ability to find pleasure in the simple things. Him stuffing his pockets and making Sam deal with the car, so Dean. Thank you Meredith for showing Dean's quirks in a way that isn't about laughing at the character. Hopefully, this clip plus the other is the Dean was see all episode and Dean's not swimming when all the action goes down.

This is the way I feel too. Dean's contributions and past experiences are so rarely acknowledged I'm at a point where there really is no acceptable excuse. As for Crowley, I can understand why they keep him alive. He's the devil they know. Sure he's a slimey little toad and a weasel but he has no plans (it seems) to want to take over the world or if he does, he doesn't seem to want to destroy it. Kill Crowley and you never know who is going to rise up and take his place. I find when they work with him they expect to be double crossed so they keep him at arms lenght. As much as I love the Dean/Crowley bromance even i can admit that its completely one sided. Crowley' has proven useful in the past, especially if there is something in it for him. I think Crowley made a mistake intercepting Lucifer in the first place. It was a dumb move not to let him go back to the cage. Because no matter how good Crowley is, Lucifer will probably get the better of him and escape. Because I imagine that is what Lucifer is trying to figure out. I can see him getting out of the the Nick meat suit and looking for a new one.

I'm still DVRing. Go for a swim- probably means Dean trips over his shoelace and falls into a swimming pool. When he finally manages to climb out, Sam will have already killed all the werewolves with Mick's help. Dean will thank him for being there for Sam when he couldn't.

Dean being ornery and surly is my favorite part of that clip. Sam lied to him for weeks and Dean knows that no matter what he says Sam won't listen, so he's doing what he does and keeping the peace. But I'm not sure it will last. I'm sure at the end of this ep, Dean will be made to thank Mick and apologize to Sam for not trusting his judgment.

How do you avoid making Mary look worse if you show her willing to act like a mom and dispense motherly advice to teenagers she barely knows when she won't give her own sons the time of day. If there wasn't talk of 300eps I would almost think the show was ending next season the Dabb was setting up the Winchesters to retire

For once the old joke isn't aimed at Dean. (Thank you Meredith Glynn). But it still seem odd and out of place. Sam and Dean usually don't have trouble getting info or interviewing witnesses on cases. I wish they would come up with other reasons than bring out the old jokes. It makes me wonder if Dabb really does see the Winchesters as having to retire and let the next generation take over. Dean getting in Mick's face is good and the Dean I know and love. I just hope he's not put back in this place by at the end of this episode since we know that Mick will be tagging along on other cases. If Mick gets Claire infected why are they still giving these guys the time of Day? Unless at the end they both decide that the Brits need to be sent packing and that is why they continue to work with them. The tease does sound like this is setting up for a backdoor pilot or another outright attempt at a spin off. I think this was the episode where Michaels gave us the script tease with something about heading towards the future.

If the CW is following its usual pattern we should get a sneak peek sometime today.

Looks like Sam and Dean have a new bestie

Is this the episode Eileen (The deaf hunter from Into The Mystic) was rumored to be in? That's why I never believe that Jensen's limited time available was the reason why he didn't factor into The Raid. The writers can usually manage to work around this issue when its Sam

The whole Bat joke make me think of this scene from Galavant
-
Agree. The exchange between Jensen and JDM was funny on twitter but it didn't work in show. As you pointed out where has the bat been all this time? We've never scene it before. Plus, the last episode the show made a big point about Dean intervening after Ketch started torturing the vampire of Dean stepping in and showing mercy by promising to make it quick. Then this episode of Dean going all Negan on monsters makes it seem like Perez really thinks Dean is just a killer and no better than Ketch. It completely made the scene in the previous episode irrelevant. If it was Dean in a bad place mentally and taking out his frustration on monsters and that is why he was more aggressive then usual and why his hygiene slipped than I could almost reconcile that opening scene, but IMO if that was what I was was supposed to be seeing the writing and acting failed to highlight it.

It looks a little like this scene, posted by Sam Smith I forget who is green and who is yellow

A fight between Mary and Ketch? MCU= Mary close up?

This was posted by the director of the episode.

I was wondering why this sounded familiar It's basically the ep description of American Nightmare. I wonder where Dean is going to wonder off to this week.

This is what I wanted too. I've really been missing badass Dean since he lost the mark

This doesn't work for me because while I can believe that Dean doesn't mind getting dirty on hunts, I don't believe he'd wouldn't shower in the hotel rooms, or even on the off chance he they couldn't get a hotel room and he had a blanket to cover Baby's seats, I don't believe he wouldn't have headed right for the shower when they got back to the bunker. Since all indications are that Dean cleans it, I don't see him flinging monster guys around. I could almost buy he knew Sam was lying him and doing it to irritate Sam, but the show didn't go in that direction. I don't think it was anyhting other than Perez trying to be funny and that for me it wasn't. I found that scene full of contempt toward Dean.

I feel like this show has lost the focus of not just Sam and Dean but also on hunting. I don't want to watch the brothers use ray guys and bug bombs. The blue collar aspect was a huge appeal of the show in the beginning. I'd like to see other hunters. I really liked some of the ones they introduced in the Asa Fox episode. I thought an interesting episode would be to bring back Bucky. I don't think he was horrible, he was a coward. Imagine an episode where Sam or Dean is in peril and for....reasons....Bucky is the only hunter around for back up. How would Sam or Dean handle knowing their brother's fate was in his hands. It would be an episode where you separate the brothers, still showcase their protective instincts toward one another and allow Bucky to redeem himself (or even fail again if the writers really want to throw a wrench into the plot). I wouldn't even mind more flashback episodes. (I still want to see an episode where Dean has to deal with child protective services). A flashback to John's first hunt. I adore Matt Cohen if JDM isn't available. IMO, if the writers put a little more thought an effort into things there are still lots of ways to focus on the Winchesters and compensate for their time off.

Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
ILoveReading replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
I liked Meg 1.0 much better too. I was never a fan of the kinder gentler Meg. Not every character on this show needs a redemption arc. -
They constantly joke around saying that a particular episode is their favorite because they were off while the other is on set. They're professionals and I'm sure they'd be fine with it for an occasional episode. Jensen himself even said he would have liked more purgatory and Demon Dean. Storylines which sperated the brothers. When I say separate the brothers, I'm not talking about one ep where we barely see Sam and another where we barely see Dean. I'm taking about them working different aspects of a hunt. Kind of like they did in The Chitters last season. Where we saw Sam with one hunter and Dean in another. You can introduce new hunters for them to work with. I'm talking maybe 3-4 eps per half season, which works out to be 6=8 ep, which is about a 3rd. Because right now the brothers are attached at the hip and the show really isn't focusing on them at all.
-
That's why I think they should have had the brothers going their own way in this men of letters storyline. The boys on separate hunts would give more Jensen or Jared throughout the episode. I'm not saying it has to be every ep or multiple eps in a row. They could still even showcase how in step the brothers are by having them show up at the same hunt on eps where they're not seperated. I know some are opposed to this, but as it stands now, neither Sam or Dean really matter to any storyline. Sam's a little more attached then Dean is, but you at this point you could write either of them out and the season doesn't change. Unless the writers can come up with a more creative solution but they don't seem strong enough to compensate for the leads time off.
