I would have liked to see this too. How did Dean get away from those gorilla wolves? With some out of the box thinking they could have left them seprated and still pleased those who like Sam and Dean attached at the hip. Say Purgatory is more dangerous during the equivalent of night time. Dean and Benny are holed up somewhere. Dean starts telling Benny about a Sam. Topside, we see Sam in a bar meeting someone for info. He starts talking about Dean. Show the case as basically a flashback. Set it in between cases in s8 and they wouldn't have to worry about Sam or Dean looking too different. It also showcases the bond because they would have both picked the exact same case to talk about.

It's from the sneak peek. If you go to their tumblr they are releasing more pics.

Discuss Dean in episode 8 Season 1- Bugs Season 2- Crossroad Blues Season 3- A Very Supernatural Christmas Season 4- Wishful Thinking Season 5- Changing Channels Season 6- All Dogs go to Heaven Season 7- Season 7 Time for a Wedding. Season 8- Hunter Heroici Season 9- Rock and a Hard Place Season 10- Hibbing 911 Season 11- Just My Imagination Season 12- LOTUS Looking at this list, it seems ep 8 really is mostly 'Meh from a Dean POV. Bugs- I know this often gets tops worst episode lists, but I always kind of liked it. I thought we got some great insights into Sam and Dean. I feel for both Jensen and Jared having to work with the bees. Crossroad Blues- I loved this one. The guilt of his dad's deal is weighing heavily on Dean's shoulders. I especially liked the end scene with Dean confronting the demon when she offers to give him John back. You can see that Dean was really considering agreeing to her terms. I liked the way Dean had the dual devils traps, anticipating she'd see the one under the car. Smart Dean for the win. On a shallow note, we get Dean reading Latin. (I think this was for the first time). A Very Supernatural Christmas- I have mixed feelings about the episode overall. Jensen was great as usual but my heart really broke for Dean in this one. He just wants one last Christmas, and it was good to see him get it, but it loses something when he has to spell out in no uncertain terms why it was so important to him. It also ruined Dean's amulet for me because I never liked the back story. It comes across as Sam giving it to him out of spite. (Back in s3 I was very much still a brothers fan, so was extremely disappointed). It also showed another aspect of just how hard it was for Dean growing up. I always wondered if the main reason why Dean stole Christmas was so that Sam didn't lose faith in John. If Dean was just doing it for Sam to have a holiday, I think we would have seen more signs. Sam and Dean didn't seem to have gotten anything for each other. Wishful Thinking- Okay ep. I did like the scene at the end where Dean tells Sam that he remembers hell. Changing Channels- okay ep. I did like Dean figuring out that the Trickster was Gabriel. All Dogs go to Heaven- I'm drawing a blank mostly on this one. I do remember Dean with the sniper rifle and that it made me want to see Jensen in a war movie. Season 7 Time for a Wedding- One of the worst eps. But shallow note- Dean in a sweater vest. Hunter Heroici- Been a while since I watched this, but I don't remember any real stand out Dean moments. Rock and A Hard Place- kind of 'meh. I did like the scene at at the end where Dean was trapped with everyone. Leadership is one of my favorite Dean characteristics. (I'll missed this characteristic so much). Dean taking charge and keeping everyone calm, and putting the jerk in his place was a joy to watch. It made me want a whole episode based on the concept of Dean being trapped with a bunch of people in a haunted house and him having to lead them to safety. Hibbing 911- I did like this one since I'm a big fan of Donna. But no real stand out Dean moments. Just My Imagination- This was a complete failure of an episode. All it did was leave me feeling bad for Dean, and showed just how impossible his childhood was. He was supposed to be in two places at once. The fact that Dean didn't get a imaginary because he was never a kid is heartbreaking. Plus, the zanna seemed kind of creepy. There was nothing funny about this ep, and they didn't seem very good at their jobs. . You don't encourage 9 years olds to run away. I never understood why they didn't set this. Given that John was worried something was after Sam, and given what Dean and John knew of the Supernatural, I can't see both John and Dean just blindly accepting that Sam is suddenly has an imaginary friend, especially given his age. I think the concept would have worked better in Dean's early childhood (like five or 6) and the Zanna coming to both Dean and Sam to help them cope. LOTUS- I don't think this one has a single redeeming feature. Dean was completely irrelevant. Best ep- Crossroad Blues, Worst ep- tie between LOTUS and Just my Imagination

I don't know if Dean ever really forgave Sam because he was never really given the chance to. The shows MO when Dean is suffering from PTSD, or is hurt by how his family treats him is to use "shock" speeches where he's told repeatedly he's whinging or they boo hoo him. Time and time again he's given the message that his pain, trauma and suffering doesn't matter. He told to shove it down because he's not a person, to just deal with it, Sam is his responsibility. It doesn't matter what he's been through, its not supposed to effect him. If he shows the slighest bit of hurt or anger the show turns it into a lesson or outright dismisses it. If you shove something down rather than dealing with his or you get told to suck it up, it doesn't go away. It festers. We saw this in Southern Comfort where it just came out of Dean. (Of course the end result was Sam's double standards that if he says something while possessed, Dean is supposed to write of off as "not Sam. If Dean does it, Sam gets to be angry). Then Dean's lectured by Garth about how lucky he is to have Sam. So it's not surprising to me that these things might still be bothering Dean. Sam was standing in the middle of leviathan headquaters. It seems to me that would be a really good place to start looking for info on them. Plus they had the leviathan tablet, and Sam knew Kevin was still alive. He could have started by looking for Kevin. So I disagree its revisionist.

If I was Dean I would have given Sam the mother all major league hypocrite speeches since Sam did the exact same thing. He went behind Dean's back and lied, when Dean told him not to use the book of the damned because bad things would happen. Sam did it anyway. While saving Dean he sacrificed innocents to get what the wanted (Lester, and Oscar), and he said he didn't want to be alone. (The Prisoner). The exact same things he accused Dean being selfish for. This is why I lose sympathy for Sam, because he has no issue lying or going behind Dean's back or manipulating him when something he wants is on the line. He did it last season with the brits.

Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
ILoveReading replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
This is how I felt. Bobby used to be one of my favorite characters, until he became a writer mouthpiece. Unfortunately, the more they turned Bobby into a father figure the more they turned him into John, who only saw Dean as a blunt instrument whose sole purpose was Sams' body guard. I had no feelings left for the character so when they killed him off, it didn't bother me. For that reason and the fact that I knew he'd be back. I saw ghost Bobby a mile away and that whole abominable snowman movie didn't fool me. I knew he was filming SPN -
Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck

I guess I don't see that Dean was really wallowing in self pity. It's not like he was complaining or moping for weeks or even hours. It had literally just happened. Sam strangled him and chose a demon over him. Dean was reacting to a situation that literally just happened. He did not deserve to have the words boo hoo, princess or whiny brat thrown at him. Bobby was completely dismissive of the trauma that Dean just suffered. And he gave Sam a free pass by acting like it was all Dean's fault for not reaching Sam. He could have tried a softer approach first. Another alternative- Dean, I know your mad son, and you have every right to be. But you can kick Sam's ass later. I know you son. I know that if there was a chance to save Sam, no matter how small and you didn't take it, you wouldn't be able to live with yourself. After Jo was fatally wounded and Dean was about to fall apart, Bobby didn't go for "shock value", he used the sympathetic approach and it worked. He didn't need to right to "shock value." This may be an upopular opinion but Bobby was a first class asshat toward Dean in that scene. As for s7, I never understood why Bobby even asked Dean how he was doing. Because no matter what Dean's feels are Bobby's response was basically suck it up. Why bother asking if you think he's just moping or feeling sorry for himself. He just have just issued the boo hoo princess speech and saved himself some time. -
They showed all the pics the CW released. Dean was only in a couple of them. The majority of them were Sam.

The only way its makes sense is if Dean's grief is so intense he becomes catatonic, but as we see that isn't the case.
-
Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant was that if Dean's grief manifested as anger, I can't see him sitting out of the action, but rather jumping in head first almost to the point of recklessness. I can see him wanting to throw caution to the wind with Mary too. This whole Dean doesn't want to look for Mary isn't something I can't wrap my head around.
-
According to Jensen, Dean's grief is supposed to be locked behind walls and he's looking for something to hit. It seems to me he should be jumping into this head first. A s2 mind set makes more sense than a s7 one. I'm not really seeing much evidence of grief or any that should take Dean out of the action. It's like I predicted, Dean's mindset seems to be like he was in ep 12.10 where his worry came out more as anger. This is what I predict what will happen here.
-
I'm not really sure the writers are going to put much effort into it. At comic con, which was based on the first few episodes, Dabb just mentioned that Dean thought Mary was dead and he wanted Jack dead. It was Jensen who talked about Dean shutting down. Jensen tends to put more thought into these things. There wasn't much evidence of of it in the preview. Maybe we'll see more once we get a longer one. But I'm mostly expecting grumpy Dean rather than grieving Dean.
-
I don't really see these as the same thing. In s5 the situation seemed hopeless. They experienced the loss of one battle after another and Dean become convinced that that saying yes was the only way to win the war. In s7, Dean saw Cas die. He also kept the trench coat as a sign of hope so he didn't give up completely. All he saw was Mary disappear into a purgatory like world. He knows its possible to survive something like that. The very core of Dean Winchester is "you don't give up on family." So for Dean to just give up on family strikes at the very heart of of who the character is. As for Jack, I'm pretty sure he's going to be the key to ending both Michael and Lucifer mostly thanks to Sam's influence.
-
I find Dabb equally guilty of this. How many plot points is he bring back that have been dealt with multiple times already. Lucifer being the most obvious. From the sounds of it Last season The Brits were new, but no one was on the same page with them. I find all showrunners also equally guilty. With Kripke he took a chance and sent Dean to hell and made Dean a torturer, but very little follow up was done with it. Sam going dark was really more Sam being beige. The phone call, the nurse, Sam attempting to strangle Dean were all controversial and none of it was ever brought up again. It was just swept under the rug. Dabb had Dean kill Death in the s10 finale. That should have been a big deal, but he ran and hid behind Billie. ( I know Carver was still in charge officially, but as I said I'm one that believes that Dabb was unofficially in charge most of the season. Because Dabb was at Comic con that year, not Carver. So I put this one one Dabb. Bringing Mary back, was another example. Rather than actually take a chance and change the dynamic Dabb pushed Mary off screen as soon as possible rather than commit to that storyline. I would have liked more Demon Dean, and from an interview (I wish I had the link) it sounded like Carver did too. He said he originally wanted Demon Dean to be around 6 episodes. I wonder how much influence Singer had here. Singer seems to be stuck in the brothers must be attached at the hip mentality. With Sera, there was Sams' hallcinations. She didn't really commit to those. Because after 11.02 there is no way Sam should have trusted with a gun or as back up on a hunt until he could prove he was stable. So Sera took a short cut with the hand squeezing. I think this is a large problem since Kripke left. To me, it seems like there is very little communication. I'm not even sure they read each other's scripts. There is someone that throws a vague idea, like The Mark of Cain or British Men of Letters and the writers all take it in their own directions. Souless Sam is a good idea of this. He changed every single episode. Same with the Mark of Cain. Instead of a clear mythology its kept changing to suit a particular writer's whim. It was obvious no planning was done with it. Under Dabb there was the Brits. Their motives kept changing. They don't lack ideas what they lack is someone with a clear vision to be able to execute those ideas. Which goes back for me, of SPN having someone in charge but not really having a leader. All my opinion, of course.

I can't see it being the amulet. With the direction they're supposedly taking Dean's character it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. He's supposed to have his walls up and be freezing everyone out. Putting on the amulet seems contradictory to that. When we see Dean he usually has a round neck black t with an unbuttoned shirt over it. It that photo it looks like an open neck Henley so its possible the camera caught a bit of Jensen's necklace. It happened in Children Shouldn't Play with Dead things, when Dean had the v-neck tee-shirt on. YOu could see a glimpse of the chain.
-
There was a rumor that Jack is supposed to get away from Sam and Dean. Maybe this is after they catch up with him again. The chain. Maybe its Jensen's necklace. He said Danneel gave him one that he wears all the time when he travels.

My first thought was that he was throwing it at Jack, but Jack's powers stopped him from releasing it

For me the best show runner was Kim Manners (okay, not technically a show runner), but I give him a lot of credit for helping to establish the tone of the show and characterization of Sam and Dean. I will always thank him for being able to recognize Jensen's talent and the value of Dean as a character outside of Sam. The further this show gets from his death the more convinced I become he was a major reason for the success of the early years of the show. That's why I give 2nd place to Carver. He at gave Dean a myth arc out side of Sam. Even if it fizzled out at the the end, at least I'll always have s9. Which is my favorite after s4. We also got purgatory Dean. How i miss him. Sera had some good episodes but she treated Dean as a Sam extension. There was just too much limp/sick/something wrong with Sam for my tastes. My favorite being The Mentalists. I really wish Ben Blacker and Ben Acker how been given another episode. Last and certainly very least is Dabb. He, IMO is the worst thing that ever happened to the show. *my apologies if some of this sounds like bitch/jerk, its not meant in that context but its just to explain why I feel the way I do about certain show runners.
