  1. I'm disappointed Rami isn't there.
  2. Every time Charles was transported to the White Room, all I could hear was the song of the same name by Cream. If we're putting in our wish list for a Broadway star for next season's cast (assuming there is a next season), may I suggest Raul Esparza.
  3. It seemed to me that the judges abandoned the whole double-bind thing and just went with the outfits they liked. Brittany's outfit had no modesty component, Rami's dress didn't really have an oversized component, and Laurence made another jumpsuit. I'm OK with the way things turned out (Rami is still my favorite, and he definitely benefited from the loose interpretation of the challenge), but, to me, the two outfits that best fit the challenge were Korto's and Bishme's. They were far from the best outfits on the runway, but they met the brief, unlike some of the top outfits.
  4. I felt as though two of the judges were watching a different runway show than the one I watched. Elaine was . . . well, Elaine. And I have no idea who the guest was (I'm old), but I didn't think much of her comments, either. Only Brandon and the guest designer got it right, IMO. I'd have selected Bishme's outfit for the win, because I though the jacket was fantastic. Plus, as amazing as Laurence is, she's done the cone bra thing twice now. Anna should have been on the bottom. Didn't Brandon say he could see the crotch on Anna's model? Shouldn't that be disqualifying? Yes, we all knew, if Rami were ousted, Christian would save him. I, for one, am glad he did. I think the guests are getting worse each week. One of the Real Housewives next week? Blech.
  5. I'm happy to see so many nominations for Succession, but I fear that the categories with multiple Succession nominees might result in the award going to a non-Succession nominee. For example, Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, and Kieran Culkin are all nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series. I think they were all magnificent, but I would give the nod to either Kieran Culkin (my personal favorite) or Jeremy Strong (who is always, always good). But I think what will happen is that the award will go to someone else, probably Pedro Pascal. I didn't watch The Last of Us, although I understand that he was very good, but my heart belongs to Succession, and I really want to see Kieran Culkin or Jeremy Strong win. Same for the Best Supporting category. I am all in for Matthew Macfadyen to repeat his win. But he has heavy competition, including among his own castmates. (I did see The White Lotus, which I thought was just OK.) I'm happy to see Alan Ruck nominated. He really did shine in the last season. Fingers crossed for multiple wins.
  6. I agree with many of you that the right person won and the right person was eliminated. But, to me, the rest of the judging was crazy. Anna's being in the top elicited an out-loud NO from me. Not only was the dress a repeat of the Unconventional Materials one, but it was just unattractive (to my untrained eye). And who would look good in something like that? Yikes. I found it interesting that the judges were defending their decision to put Anna in the top. Didn't one of them (Brandon?) even say he knew the other designers wouldn't understand the decision? Was this segment taped after the meltdown in the waiting room? I am puzzled by Rami this season. He was one of my favorites in Season 4, but he seems to be struggling. I wanted to like his dress, and I did like the zipper idea, but the dress didn't fit his model very well and it wasn't flattering. I'm just happy he wasn't sent home, and I hope he ups his game. What was the point of the shopping trip? I'm sure it was fun for the designers, but was it really just a commercial for the credit card?
  7. On the clearance rack.
  8. I definitely would have picked Anna over Viktor for the auf. The most surprising result to me, though, was that the judges like Kara Saun's dress. All I could see was a Standard Poodle who'd just come back from the groomer.
  9. I too remember the contestants from the earlier seasons but can't remember some of the more recent ones. The first four seasons were (for me) the most memorable. I remember Nora, although I was confused by her blonde hair and thought she was Alexandria. I also recall the wedding dress challenge and how Nora designed what her very young model wanted. The model was thrilled but the judges were not. I'm happy to have the show back. I have watched both Making the Cut and Next in Fashion, but neither stacks up to PR.
  10. I'll admit that I misinterpreted Roman's smile. My immediate thought was that he and Shiv had conspired to wreck Kendall's dream, and his smile was a "We did it!" But, of course, that makes no sense given all that transpired in the board room and during the big fight before Shiv cast her Yes vote. I would not be surprised if Succession swept the Emmys this year. Everyone was great. The only bad thing is that Kieran Culkin will be competing against Jeremy Strong. A tie, maybe? Succession is also among my favorite shows of all time. But I watched two of those favorites (Breaking Bad and The Wire) after they'd originally aired, and the endings didn't feel quite so sad to me. When you've been watching a show in real time and that show finally comes to an end, it seems like more of a loss. I remember how sad I was when Mad Men ended (even though it was time). Same with Succession. Sunday nights just won't be the same.
  11. I just listened to the Succession podcast. Jeremy Strong mentioned that this was the final scene that they filmed. He also said that he actually drank that concoction in the blender (several times) and that, yes, it really was awful.
  12. What a rollercoaster. I'm not entirely sure what happened (for the second episode in a row), but the whole thing was stunning. And the veins on Kieran Culkin's forehead deserve their own Emmy. Mr. Darcy for the win.
  13. I am going to have to watch this episode again, maybe with the closed captioning on. I'm honestly not sure what's going on with all the alliances and schemes. But I am sure of this--if I were handing out Emmys: Best Actor - Kieran Culkin Best Actor in a Guest Starring Role - James Cromwell
  14. I haven't been able to get this episode out of my mind. I don't recall any other episode of this show in which I felt so deflated afterward. I listened to the official podcast but didn't enjoy it as I usually do. My initial reaction to the ending was Go, Shiv! because a) I was totally POed at Roman and Kendall and b) she seemed to be the only member of the family who was horrified about what a Mencken election would mean to the country. But I've read a few views (here and on other sites) that Shiv is doing this for no reason other than to screw over her brothers. I've never been a particular fan of Shiv, but I actually do think at least some of her motivation is about the country, not just a power play. I hope we find out in the next two episodes.
  15. That might be the most depressing hour of episodic television I've ever watched. I am now solidly Team Shiv.
  16. I am late to this show. I resubscribed to HBO when "Succession" Season 4 started, but I forgot to look for other HBO shows of interest. Duh. I watched the first episode of Season 2 and thought that most of the characters were kind of awful. I wasn't sure I'd watch the rest, but I recently started the episodes up again. To my surprise, I find, like many of you, that I'm enjoying this season more than the last. Yes, Season 1 had Murray Bartlett, and no one quite stands out in this season the way he did in the first. Still, the scenery is stunning, and the mystery of who's zooming who is keeping me very entertained. Plus, Tom Hollander! I know he's been in a ton of things, but he'll always be Mr. Collins in "Pride and Prejudice" to me. He's terrific in everything. After the first episode, I thought Harper was humorless and controlling. And, well, she still is to some extent, but I've grown fond of her. Plus, I love her wardrobe, even if it isn't all that resort-friendly. I have no idea what's going to happen in the next three episodes. I do hope the ending is more satisfying than the Season 1 ending, but that's probably wishful thinking.
  17. Same for me. All the actors on this show are great, but Matthew Macfadyen is my favorite. As awful as Tom can be, I can't help rooting for him. I think it's because of how much I enjoy seeing MM's performance. I did fear for Tom, as he stood on the balcony. I thought the brutal argument with Shiv might literally send him over the edge. And now, I wonder what all the "tired" references mean. Show, please don't go all soap opera-ish on us and have Tom come down with some dreadful disease.
  18. In the Succession podcast, J. Cameron-Smith talks about doing multiple takes of this scene, with some improvisations, such as Gerri throwing a water bottle. She said as they did subsequent scenes, it "got uglier and uglier' and felt dangerous. The scene was probably the highlight of the episode for me, and hearing her talk about it was fascinating.
  19. I was confused or misinterpreted several scenes. For example, I thought Shiv's grieving room was an excuse she gave to Tom and Greg and that she was using it for some other purpose. And I thought there was a chance that Kendall was going into the rough surf to (possibly) kill himself. It was only after I read some comments on Twitter that I realized many people saw it as a rebirth. And when the camera panned in on Tom with this hand on Shiv's waist (in the crying office), I thought he figured out that she was pregnant. I seem to have been 0/3. On the bright side, I learned a new word--interregnum. Thanks, Gerri. Maybe it's because I live in FL, but the whole Living+ thing reminded me of The Villages, where Tom would have lots of fellow ATN citizens.
  20. The most recent episode, "Along Came Sarah," was one of the craziest I've ever seen. This is another one of those "if this were a movie, no one would buy it" cases. It would seem too far-fetched. How she was able to get away with all those crimes for so many years--it's really hard to fathom. I hope some of the officials who let her get away with things/chose not to investigate are feeling some remorse.
  21. This was my favorite line of the night. The writers are terrific. I foresee Emmy nominations all around, with one possible exception. I agree with the posters who think Nicholas Braun/Greg seems off this season. I don't think his presence would be missed if he weren't there. OK, I have a question. I have always been a bit squigged out to see a whole animal roasting on a pit, and so I tried to avoid watching the spinning meat. Were those goats? Lambs? Deer?
  22. Most surprising moment of the episode--Logan did Sudoku.
  23. This show is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to acting. Everyone was great last night, as usual. In particular, I thought Peter Friedman (Frank) did a marvelous job of trying to make Kendall believe that his father loved him. I'm not sure whether Frank actually believed it himself, but it was a great kindness to say what he did in the moment. Frank showed the same compassion in the previous episode when he talked Kendall down from his demands to speak to the pilot of Logan's plane. I've seen Peter Friedman in many parts over the years but I only recently discovered that he played Tateh in the original cast of the musical "Ragtime." An immense talent.
  24. Wow. That was amazing. I had no clue that this was the end for Logan. In fact, it took me about half the episode to believe it wasn't some Logan Roy fakeout of his kids. The episode was brilliant. The actors were so freakin' good. The cinematography was outstanding. I'm using too many adjectives, but I really was blown away by this.
