  1. Maybe it’s because I saw the amazing British show Black Mirror recently but (I’m putting the rest in spoiler tags for those who have not seen Black Mirror)
  2. Just got back from seeing The Theory of Everything and I have to say I was more struck by the performance of Felicity Jones than I was Eddie Redmayne. I did think Redmayne was terrific and would have no problem with him winning but I felt that Jones was the backbone of that picture. I've seen Wild and Gone Girl and don’t think either Reese Witherspoon or Rosamund Pike can touch with Jones did. I have not seen Still Alice and it’s my understanding that Julianne Moore is the front-runner but I wonder why Jones is not getting more hype? Is Julianne Moore just that much better? P.S. I rented Boyhood the other night and had to turn it off after 40 minutes because I found it so unengaging. I have enjoyed Linklater before (particularly the "Before" trilogy) but this seemed to be a series of vignettes with little to no purpose. I'm truly shocked by the critical acclaim that it's getting.
  3. I'm the exact opposite and thought it actually got one nomination too many. I love Fincher but thought this was his weakest movie in years. The only acting nom I would have been okay with would have been a supporting nod for Kim Dickens who was excellent as Boney.
  4. I’m right there with you on Russo. For me, I would kick out either Laura Dern from Wild or Emma Stone from Birdman and put Russo in their place. For the record, I have seen all three performances and think Russo tops them both. Also, about Wild...was anyone else distracted by the fact that Reese actually looked OLDER in the flashback scenes? I think it was the hair color and the clothes but it completely took me out of the movie. I have to say my biggest disappointed is Jake Gyllenhaal not getting a nom for Nightcrawler. I actually thought he deserved a Sporting Actor nod for Prisoners last year as well. He is just getting better and better with each film. I hope he gets his due someday soon.
  5. Did I miss something? How did Carol clean all of the zombie gook off of her prior to meeting everyone in the woods? It was all over her face and hair and she looked all fresh and clean when she hugged Daryl.
  6. The scene with the clown and the couple having a picnic was reminiscent of a scene from the movie Zodiac. I was wondering if it was a nod to that film and I looked up the actor playing the clown and lo and behold it is the same actor who played the main suspect in Zodiac! Small things excite me...
  7. From the way it was edited, it also looked like John was spurred on by Jeremy screaming something like "your woman got rocked" right after Julie got knocked in the face. The editors quickly cut to John and he did not look happy. I think his turn was next and he took his aggression out on whomever he ran into.
  8. I usually love all things Fincher but this felt like his first “miss” to me. I really did not take to either Affleck or Pike in their roles. So much of their scenes together felt like script reading sessions and I did not believe for a second that they ever once were a loving couple. Fincher is usually so good with tension and mystery but I felt nothing throughout this thing. The ending didn't bother me because I didn't care about any of these people. The plot itself reminded me a bit of Side Effects with Rooney Mara, Jude Law, and Channing Tatum which, while certainly having flaws, had a much better pace and feel to it. Also, did anyone else find the music used in the flashback sequences to be distracting?
  9. Was anyone else bothered by Mommy Fetish scene between Jax and Gemma and how almost carefree Jax seemed? His smile was beaming throughout it and they had this joking dynamic going on that just seemed so out of place given the time frame of Tara’s death. I just remember how deeply Opie was effected by Donna’s death and how the man seemed to carry the weight of her loss so heavily. I could be wrong, but I don’t remember one “playful” scene Opie had so soon after the loss of his wife. I guess we are to presume Jax didn't really love Tara as much as he said?
  10. Honestly, I hated Carter for 98% of the episode but I did love that she finally called Elizabeth "Mom" and she reconciled a bit with her sister. I still think this show is a mess but I continue to watch it (mainly cause I'm still in love with Kathryn Prescott from her Skins days). So for the final we get Lori in a ridiculous blond wig? Yippee!!
  11. I usually cringe-watch this show but I thought tonight's episode was actually pretty solid. I desperately hope this will be the end of Crash but I doubt we will be that lucky. Prior to him getting shot, I thought Max had a really great line to Carter when he was referring to Lori and said something like "you ought to think about that apple not falling far from the tree thing...she's not your tree." I'm hoping this leads to more Carter and Elizabeth time because, to me, not only are they the two best actresses on the show but I actually do feel the connection between the two of them. I don't feel that way with Carter and anyone else, even her siblings.
  12. Mine would be Mysterious Skin with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I actually saw it with MY FATHER!! Somehow we were under the impression it was a sci-fi movie about aliens (I still to this day have no idea how we thought that) and were QUITE surprised when there was a very violent male on male rape scene and then an excruciating scene with the sexual assault of a child. I was shaking during that scene and actually thought I might pass out. That movie haunted me for days after.
  13. As a non-feed watcher, thank you for this thread. I no longer have BBAD (thanks a lot U-Verse) so you guys do the work of saints by watching and reporting back to us. Also, the random names for Victoria remind of the season Porsche was on and people would refer to her as other car names like Subaru, Audi and Kia and I died every time. I do the same when I see Venezuela or another random names for Vicky.
  14. This is a random observation but is anyone else distracted by the horrible music choices on this show? I realize that MTV uses their shows to promote new music (notice the constant Song and Artist scroll that runs on the bottom of the screen) but honestly who is picking this stuff? I was particularly distracted while David was digging through his wife’s underwear drawer while a catchy diddy was playing in the background. I mean what? Kathryn Prescott’s old show Skins was THE BEST at matching the music to the scene. Here is just seems like they are randomly throwing songs in to meet some sort of quota and it’s not working.
