  1. Sure, different generations are going to have different pop culture references, but I guess I’ve never understood this idea of people being totally clueless to music/film/tv if it was before or after their time. I’m 38. Donny and Marie were big before I was born. I only know of Donny’s work peripherally. I may not have followed his career, but I know who he is. I may not have remembered exactly what his singing sounded like, but a quick listen of his Mulan song confirms it’s him for me. Gladys Knight was before my time, but I mean really, do people really not know “Midnight Train To Georgia”? I admit, I’m a music lover so it may be more obvious to me than others. I just don’t buy the judges are that dumb. I could kind of buy that maybe they’re not positive if it’s Donny and Gladys, but to not even mention them as an option is a joke. I also think maybe they gave away too many clues too early. Donny’s clues-singing at five years old, your mom had posters of me, Vegas. I mean, who else could it be?? Especially after seeing him perform. I think this could have possibly been more fun and not as obvious if they had not given so many giveaway clues.
  2. Here’s Donny singing in Mulan, I think this is a good example of his singing style on the show, kind of theatrical and pop at the same time. I’ve also wondered if they are singing live, because I could hear auto tune (especially on the non-singers). However auto tune can be used live, and I’m pretty sure I hear some of the real performers like Donny catching their breath sometimes.
  3. The singing voices aren’t altered, which was my point. Actually, I do think a lot of them are auto-tuned to keep on-key, but not altered in a way that we won’t recognize them. The speaking voices are definitely altered to be unrecognizable, but you can hear inflections, cadence, accents, etc. At first I though the Lion could possibly be Kelly Rowland, but she speaks with a Texas accent, and the Lion has no accent while speaking.
  4. The problem with this show is that if the celebrity is famous for singing (as opposed to being an athlete or actor), we know their voice. The Bee is Gladys Knight, there is no question about that. I mean, she is a legend and her voice is iconic, recognizable and unique. Surely, the judges are not that clueless. It drives me crazy for them to sit there and pretend they have no idea who it is. Just like with Donny Osmond. The fact that they haven’t even mentioned him as a possibility is ridiculous and shows how useless the judging segments are. As professional musicians (especially being over 40), Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger should be ashamed if they don’t recognize Gladys Knight’s voice I actually don’t think they’re really that clueless, so that makes the dumb bimbo act all the more annoying The Monster and Lion can really sing. Again, if they were famous for singing, we would recognize their voices. If The Monster is T-Pain, that makes sense because most of the world knows his singing through auto-tune; most haven’t heard him sing like this. Lion is Rumor Willis. Here’s a video of her singing (it’s the last few minutes). It’s the same voice. The Rabbit is not JC. His voice is very distinctive and IMO, he’s the best boyband singer ever. The Rabbit is definitely someone whose voice we don’t know very well, so someone who didn’t have solos. The other one I’m sure of is Unicorn-Tori Spelling. You have to listen to the inflection and cadence of their speaking voice in the interviews. That little giggle is totally Tori Spelling. The same with Donny-the speaking style very much sounds like him. The only thing about Tori that gave me doubts was she was in a Christmas TV movie a few years ago and she sounded really great! I think I recall an interview at the time and she said it was really her singing but a lot of auto tune. However, I am sure The Unicorn is auto-tuned too (the notes are all on key, the voice tone is just horrible) and she sounds totally different from the song I linked above. I’ve come to the conclusion she was just lip syncing in the movie. I do think the show is enjoyable, but damn the judging panel is just about ruining it for me. “Lady Gaga?” “Justin Bieber”? It’s just ridiculous. Guessing Cris Angel for Donny Osmond...it’s so annoying.
  5. Wouldn’t Magnolia have ran straight to the police after she escaped? It seems Patty (and Bob) would have been worried about that.
  6. Exactly! This idea that she is never supposed to utter Bryn's name, is ridiculous. We all know what "talking about" means. Mentioning you have to pick up your daughter from school, for instance, is not "talking about" her. What, is she supposed to pretend like she doesn't have a daughter? Ridiculous. She doesn't have Bryn on the show or social media, and she only speaks about her in general terms. BTW, what the hell happened to Jason, looks-wise?? He used to be hot.
  7. By the way, I thought we were done with Brandon since we haven't seen him in a while (maybe a couple of years?) But how disappointing was it to hear him on the phone. UGH. I can't stand him. He is always SO extra, SO thirsty. The little "impromptu" song and dances he and Kenya used to do were so cringeworthy. And just his ten seconds on the phone, he had to be so extra with his "Sunday" line. God.
  8. LOL. And there it is. If all else fails, let's go back to Mama Joyce and Kandi's employees. As if that is in any way comparable to the shit Phaedra pulled. What the actual fuck.
  9. Wait a minute...are you serious? If a man had done the same thing, he would be the very definition of a DEAD BEAT DAD. So yeah we most definitely would be having this conversation. If anything, Erika has been given a pass on being an absent parent.
  10. I'm glad she finally got some layers in her hair and went a little lighter with some highlights/balayage.
  11. Okay, so I am a little obsessed with Erika's "music" "career". I've been looking things up and watched her videos And I have so many questions. First of all, I kinda dig the idea of Erika Jayne. I like that she's over the top, I like the whole glamour sex kitten vibe. And I like that she's unafraid to do dance pop music being over 40. However, her songs are awful. And with her new exposure on RH, why would she put out a song like " Xxpensive"? She needs a universal club banger, something people want to sing along to, something like yes, "Tardy For The Party". Nobody wants to sing or relates to "it's expensive to be me". But anyway, back to my questions about her "career". It was my understanding that this is basically a vanity career entirely funded by her husband. But she was on the cover of Billboard magazine in 2012 and 2013. Can you pay to be on the cover of Billboard? And okay, she's had several number 1 singles on Billboard's Dance Club chart. But what does that even mean? From Wikipedia: "The Dance Club Songs chart is a weekly national survey of the songs that are most popular in U.S. dance clubs. It is compiled by Billboard exclusively from playlists submitted by nightclub disc jockeys who must apply and meet certain criteria to become 'Billboard-reporting DJs.' " So..does she get any money from that? It's just fascinating to me because she pays people like Flo Rida and Maino what I'm sure is a huge amount to guest on her songs, her videos are pretty high quality, she only does a few shows a year but she employs an army of dancers and a glam squad. A few of her videos: Party People (Ignite The World) - This is probably her catchiest and most mainstream type of song, but it's single handedly ruined by the Auto tune on literally every single note. She looks super hot. There's a point in the video where she and a bunch of girl dancers are leaning against a wall and it looks like they are about to tear up a dance break...but then nothing. Get It Tonight (with Flo Rida) - This is also ruined by all the auto tune. I'm talking Rebecca Black levels of auto tune. And take a shot for every time she flips her head in slow motion. Crazy (with Maino) - This could almost pass for like a legit music video. It's trying way too hard though. And the song is not great. I can't though with her house/trance or whatever songs, like "Painkiller". Those are even more terrible. But I'm just fascinated how this woman has basically bought this career. A career that would seem semi legit to an outsider. Aren't they referring to her as a "singer" or "pop star" on DWTS? And it seems her only "talent" is posing, swinging her hair, and trying to emulate the dance moves of a stripper
  12. Yeah we thought Kandi had let it go, but remember on Kim's last reunion, it was just a couple of years ago, Kandi had filed something for TFTP to be taken down. She said at that point, she was going to let it go with regards to all the money Kim owed her, but she wasn't going to allow Kim to continue to profit off of her work. So I wonder what came of that.
  13. I wonder if it's gonna be awkward if Kim comes back. When Kim left, Kandi was serving her or suing her or something. She wanted TFTP to be taken off iTunes. TFTP is still up on my Spotify; I'm assuming it's still on other services as well. I guess Kandi was unsuccessful in getting it taken down.
  14. I don't really hear the similarities with "Shape of You" and "No Scrubs" and it's just one line, in particular. That line is rhythmically similar but not melodically. But whatever, good for Kandi. Nene was such a dumdum when she tried to downplay Kandi's wealth. I remember one reunion when Kim said Kandi is probably the richest one. And Nene got all defensive "well how do we know that?" It's like girl, come on. You must not know how songwriting royalties work, do you? Kandi will be getting paid the rest of her life.
