Perhaps it was to show he was moving on. Then again considering he had been crushing on her for a decade or something, I'm guessing his love is more of a festering wound rather than anything healthy. I wish we knew how Eddie and Iris were doing so we knew how messy this was supposed to get.
  2. So she gave up without a fight and had the Glee club lesson hijacked and she is a grown adult who is supposed to be teaching these kids adversity in times of struggle how to perservere and I'm supposed to find the Rachel support group endearing ?
  3. Because at any point she could say "NO Let's focus on the students who are still in this Glee Club and Highschool and focus on getting ready on Sectionals, I can deal with my own life thanks." No one pointed a gun at her head to make another Glee Club week about her and her issues.
  4. This show continues to get worse Upside Sue saying the school is 100% anti bullying before going off to fat shame a student was hilarious in a "You've got to be shitting me" kind of way. The songs were okay Downsides Samchel is dull, Klaine is dull Rachel requires her 5 new students to help participate in an exercise to get her to act like an adult AGAIN? That they don't seem to be bothered finding new students to participate in Glee That Mr Schue is heading back to McKinley as an alumni consultant (like Kurt, Rachel, Mercedes and Artie) Blaine runs the Warblers and yet is always at McKinley That nothing on this show has any continuity or relevance

Seemed like Iris ignored Barry's love confession and Barry moved on to someone who basically did all the work to get the relationship started. Iris is the one being passive aggressive about her jealousy when she's got a boyfriend she's living with. Barry doesn't need to hide his new relationship from Iris because Iris never professed any feelings about Barry's love life and shouldn't care if he's dating someone. That said. I think they're both acting like teenagers and it makes me frustrated at the both of them. Barry because he's coming across as some kind of lame creeper and Iris because SHE HAS A BLOODY BOYFRIEND and she's flirting with a super hero in a skin tight costume and hiding Barry's love confession from Eddie.

He comes across as a very young 20 something... I aged him up because he's a CSI with no oversight which implies at least a few years of actual experience then again it may just be laziness regarding researching CSI positions.

How old is Barry supposed to be ? I'm assuming he's like 24 ?

I think of the red light like being like some people with alcohol it brings out the worst in them . I don't necessarily blame the alcohol for them acting out badly, it's a factor but it's not necessarily a complete excuse. I don't know if Barry is actually growing, he seems to be regressing. He returned back to his childhood home (or at least between the ages of 11 to 18?) , he's indulging in a 12 year old fantasy fighting crime in a silly outfit naming all the bad guys ridiculous names, he's not thinking through the consequences of any of his actions and he gets cranky if someone steals his spotlight. I haven't really seen much in the way of actual growth. He may be trying to run faster and train harder with missiles but it doesn't seem like any of it's actually improving his combat thinking at all. Should Barry need more motivation to take things seriously ? Doesn't he want to free his father from prison legally and avenge his mother's death? Shouldn't that motivate him to take the training somewhat seriously over the last 4 months. Shouldn't he be spending more time training than watching NetFlix alone at nights? Or at least track down the loose ends of Captain Cold, Pied Piper and Reverse Flash?

The formula is repetitive and ridiculous. I find him waiting for approval after he saved that woman from a car fire shows that while Barry may have a big heart *cough cough* he also wants the validation of hero worship even though it puts him at risk of being captured by the police for vigilantism. Then again it's not like the police are putting any effort into dealing with the metahuman issue that's been ongoing for the last 13 months apparently. Also the metahumans influence only brought out the inner frustrations of the person involved as far as I could tell. Barry said a part of him meant those things. He does find Eddie a threat and he didn't like Oliver getting attention from Iris. He also doesn't think he should have to do his actual day time job answering to mortals. He's a jealous insecure man child who hasn't grown up properly but noone touches those issues because "he means well."' That said. I like that Barry has flaws I just wish that people would stop ignoring them and think it's sweet... It's deeply frustrating.

I don't expect him to be the bestest hero ever immediately but it takes him up to 3 fights usually to overcome humans with weapons or metahumans with obvious weaknesses and the only person to call him out on his continual ineptitude was Oliver who he basically ignored. Then there's everyone giving him free passes for nearly killing Eddie (and Oliver) and engaging with the stupidest super prison ever and having no curiosity about the motives of Dr Wells and I'm like UGH with the hero propping. It's like how they showed he was super smart in the first episode and then made a point that he could process information faster than any human ever and yet... He just spends every other episode bumbling around fighting petty crooks and thugs. Even the genius supervillains come up with the stupidest plans ever, lure Flash onto a bridge with equipment you don't totally control; or lure Flash to some random office buildings with cops all around the place. None of which makes much sense for a 12 year old to come up with, let alone purported genius level villains.

So for the last 8 years of their lives they sublimated their desire for romance with each other and I'm supposed to think that's healthy and sweet? I think not. Barry was in love with her for all that time so highschool and college must have been weird, being so close and yet not actually being in a relationship. Do we know that Eddie is Iris first serious boyfriend ?

Barry may have not considered Iris like a sibling but Iris might have... Which might explain Iris's obliviousness to Barry's crush if she considered Barry a mix of younger brother and best friend. They spent at least 7 years living in the same house where Joe would have been his surrogate father and presumably his guardian if he didn't outright adopt the parentless young Barry. I keep picturing Barry wandering around the house for 7 years crushing on an ever growing Iris and it creeps me the hell out. It might just be me though. It wouldn't be the first time. I didn't find Barry super speeding past Iris's work endearing either, just creepy.

I was thinking more of Clark Kent crushing on Lois Lane in the tv show with Dean Cain or Clark Kent with Lana Lang in Smallville or Peter Parker over his next door neighbor. I think Iris appreciates Barry as a friend but I don't think she really notices him as a male or she would have noticed what even Barry's dad noticed from prison. Perhaps a certain kind of obliviousness is in play. Then what usually happens is when the 'hero' moves onto another female, the original love interest starts acting all passive aggressive and jealous about the unattached male looking around for other options so he doesn't have to die alone or stay celibate indefinitely. Meanwhile the love interest ignores the fact that she's usually in a relationship with someone else so it all comes across as everyone sucking. YMMV Then again we've seen little of Iris POV since the confession so it's hard to tell how much she appreciates Barry as an adult male instead of goofy best friend from childhood and that guy she grew up in the same house (and that will never not be creepy to me )

Bring on the pills :P Sometimes I feel like I have to shut down my brain to enjoy a lot of action adventure type tv shows because the main character keeps doing dumb things repeatedly while being praised for how big their heart is. *VOMITS* It's not as bad as The Tomorrow People since Grant can act whereas only 20% of Robbie Amell's scene were bearable and that was usually when he was paired with Astrid who allowed him to ditch the tortured superhero nonsense. Barry comes across as a lazy dater more often than not. What is it with super heroes just attaching themselves to someone who doesn't appreciate them or notice them for years ? Are they supposed to be gluttons for punishment? or is it supposed to endear them to the audience?

That's part of the reason I get so frustrated watching this show. Barry is always told what a great guy and hero he is and I'm like STOP TELLING ME THAT AND START SHOWING IT. Between the creepy crush he has on his faux foster sister with his foster father's approval (GROSS) and his epic flails stopping the villain of the week it just grates on my nerves so much. If they wanted to prove that Barry is manning up and taking being The Flash seriously then he needs to read a book or ten about fighting/combat/military strategies/ crowd control. Running at super speed is not enough to make him a hero in my book nor does saving the random civilian for the sake of being praised for it. Being a hero is taking the concept of civilian casualties seriously and stopping the bad guys from getting away with murder. For instance Captain Cold actually murdered someone and kidnapped one of his friends/coworkers or however you'd like to describe Caitlin and noone seems like they care about tracking the guy down. They all seem too busy nicknaming the villains and engaging in dull love triangles. And on that note I think I need to take a chill pill ... lol

Well now that Iris has taken a picture and it's ended up on the front page I'm sure her job as a photographer at the Newspaper is safe... Iris can be a reporter but it seems like her reporting arc has jumped from 0 to 120 mph with barely any buildup and I for one have whiplash.

Regarding the X rated stuff... Barry also has a super fast recovery rate so I'd imagine it'd be like one of those massaging chairs that just buzz for a second infrequently between long gaps and gets into a really GOOOD LONG vibrations session and I've now officially spent too much time thinking out the logistics of The Flash's future sex life. Speaking of. Has Barry ever had a girlfriend ? emphasis mine but hasn't Barry been reckless more or less every episode? Rushing in half cocked for most fights? I haven't noticed any significant improvement since he lost the bet with Arrow.

I forgot about Iris eyeing up Oliver. I couldn't blame her for that, he is a well built millionaire, or former millionaire. I stopped watching Arrow a while back so I don't know whether Oliver is still rich or not. I think Barry was beating up Arrow because he was being eyed up by his non GF. I thought that was Barry at his worst. Barry's jealousy is unwarranted and gross but that's a different subject entirely. I miss Barry and Iris BFF scenes because they actually seemed like friends. Now they just seem to prop each other up when they do stupid things which I guess is a BFF thing too but it feels tiresome.

On a more positive note I did like when Iris was doing Game Night with Barry when she was trying to get Barry to date Felicity. Eddie even got to be likeable as a non nerd who didn't know the name of a fictional ship on a movie that came out 30 years ago. I want more of those interactions rather than Iris complaining to Barry that her mentor doesn't take her seriously because she has no journalism experience. Characters complaining all the time are boring. I want her to do something. Do you think they'll do something with that photo of The Flash sometime soon ?

Well Team Flash could use her to create psychological profiles of their metahumans to find out their hideouts, their next targets and their threat levels to the community. That would be a way to integrate her into the A plot at least some of the time and at other points she could be at school. That's another problem I have with Iris, is she still at school while also having a full time job as a reporter ? Or she could treat the prisoners for their various psychosis's or personality flaws. In the case of Peekaboo perhaps try and treat her for all the psychological issues inherent in being locked in a mirrored room. There's lots of things they could do with Iris, she could also give Barry boxing lessons like she did when she was 12, maybe she could even talk about the psychological ramifications of a messiah complex. They don't need to make her a reporter in the first season because so far none of the reporting sub plots had anything to do with any of the main plots. It's not like they're actively trying to hide the information from her for low stakes drama. It's just Iris not noticing that Flash looks sort of similar to her BFF in the facial and body type region and should even sound somewhat like him. *sigh* I could go on but I'm depressing myself about the wasted story potential of Iris.

I just had a quick look at the Laurel thread over in Arrow and wow, she has 43 more pages than the main character. That's kind of hilarious. I stopped watched Arrow at the start of season 3 or season 2 whenever Summer Glau first showed up. Wasn't Iris studying a diploma/Masters? in something ? She could be good at that, whatever that was. I can't get behind Iris's journalism because of the way they introduced it in the second episode where Iris invited Barry around so she didn't have to do her own research and then just went "I'll just make something up" combined with her lack of curiosity about who Flash is or how he got super powers and I just can't. Seriously the Flash has super powers and no curiosity at all? The whole journalism sub plot/characterisation has been clumsy in its execution. On a barely related note ... Has Eddie disappeared into a black hole ? I can't even remember the last episode he was in.

I don't think that would cover all his actual work obligations, like visiting the crime scenes, collecting samples, testing them for DNA and trace elements; he may go super fast but if you mishandle an expensive piece of equipment you're going to end up breaking it. Also the CSI lab he works in should have tonnes of cameras as it's above a police station for whatever nonsense reason. If he's worried about living wherever he used to because of all the coming and going at superspeed I find it hard to believe he does CSI stuff at super speed in the police station. Then again he stole a sandwich from his boss just for laughs so maybe he doesn't care that much about compromising his alter ego. Perhaps he netflix really quickly but his internet connection probably wouldn't compensate for his high speed brain. That said for a genius with supposedly super fast mental processing, his plans always suck.

They keep mentioning how Barry is a great hero but other than haphazardly and ineffectually taking out the Villains of the Week he doesn't seem overly burdened by his double life of rescuing everyone in Central City? from random disasters. Barry seems to have a lot of spare time for a guy with a full time job and being the lab rat for Star Labs and crimefighting all hours.

You know what I find most interesting about this conversation is that the Iris thread is 6 pages long and the Barry thread only has 20 replies so far. She may not be getting her own plot or backstory or characterisation but she at least is getting talked about. Poor Barry being the good guy is so dull . As long as Iris doesn't become the next Lana Lang I'll be happy. There's nothing more frustrating than a character becoming an expert in a dozen different things that make no sense for their background.

So far all I'm getting from Iris is that she's a mediocre wannabe reporter and is destined to be with the main character. Neither of which interests me. I don't hate her, I just don't find anything exciting about her yet. I can't help thinking of Galavant the tv show where the squire for the knight got basically half an episode in the THIRD Episode for his character development and that was a musical comedy parodying the medieval genre. It's been 10 hours at least of this show and I still don't know much about Iris and I'm not invested in her at all and I want to be. I want to understand why Barry has loved her forever and so far all I'm getting is hormones or psychological transferrance . She has no other friends other than Barry, she has a somewhat strained relationship with her father because Barry seems to hog all his attention, her bf is often offscreen and her hobby tangentially revolves around Barry's alterego. Half of my issues with Iris could be solved if she was A) a competent journalist or B) had a friend who she could talk about her feelings, her backstory or anything, she feels way off in the distance and I'm like meh.
