  1. I'm hearing you. But I freely admit to being older that dirt, so that's why I prefer my music to come with singing and instruments and some kind of melody! Having said that, the rapper was not as bad as others I've heard and he was a nice guy (and OK, yeah, kinda hot - I'm old, not blind!)
  2. Yeah, I agree. I mean, he essentially came across as a nice bloke but he did not need to keep belabouring that point.
  3. I loved Kenny too, and another reason is that he was American/Croatian. I'm Croatian on my mum's side of the family (we are Aussies, though) and the other day when I visited my parents, Mum and I watched Kenny's episode together and she was testing her Serbo-Croatian skills to try and translate the Croatian proverbs they put up between each part of the episode. :) He was a lovely man.
  4. I haven't read it but I'd really like to. His story intrigues me.
  5. It's almost as though he didn't have a choice, really. May Pang says in her book that the amount of control Yoko had over John was extremely powerful and it was always only a matter of time before he went back to her once she decided that's what she wanted. But I agree that May was as good an influence in his life as she was able to be during that Lost Weekend period.
  6. So I finally finished watching 'Get Back' a week or so ago and as pretty much a lifelong Beatles fan, I have to say I really enjoyed it. Still trying to gather my thoughts but here are a few random observations. One of the more enjoyable Beatles books I've read is 'Waiting For the Beatles' by Carole Bedford, one of the famous Apple Scruffs, and it was good to see the Scruffs represented with a couple of interviews in the documentary. I've always believed that by the time The Beatles were working on 'Let It Be', they were mostly at odds with one another and sometimes could barely stand to be in the same room, so I was quite shocked at how much camaraderie there still was between the four of them, but I was especially surprised to see how John and Paul could still strike sparks off one another creatively. No wonder poor George had started to feel like the third wheel - because he really was, and he probably would have always been if they'd stayed together a few more years. This is a tough one because the documentary obviously required her consent to be made, so there may have been some quite selective editing going on, but...I didn't find Yoko terribly objectionable at all, apart from the interludes of caterwauling which were so brilliantly imitated by little Heather! After seeing just how much Billy Preston was able to galvanise the Beatles into action once he started showing up to their sessions, it makes me wonder whether they would even have got as far as they did on that project without his input. In recent years, while I haven't ever lost my love of the Beatles and their music, I've been listening to and concentrating on other things, but seeing this documentary has reignited my interest and I am listening to some of their stuff with fresh ears and wanting to seek out any new books I haven't caught up with. Random note - I know everyone smoked in those days, but with the sheer volume of it, can you imagine how dreadful that studio must have smelled with 15 people puffing away constantly all day, every day? EWWWWWWWW. It's a wonder only poor George got lung cancer. Last but not least, I was blown away by the quality of the footage, which looks like it could have been shot yesterday.
  7. George was always my favourite Beatle and it's probably quite timely that this mega documentary has come out around the 20th anniversary of his tragic death. I am getting towards halfway through the second instalment and what I find so ironic is that the songs John and Paul (but most likely, mainly Paul) "allowed" George to put on this album were actually not amongst his better work. I don't mind 'I Me Mine' or 'For You Blue' but it's hard to see why they would have chosen those over 'All Things Must Pass' or 'Isn't It A Pity'!
  8. Jeez, Thorpey's lucky he got sent home last episode. In that keeping up with Jock challenge, I'd estimate at the speed he worked, he might have managed to get the stock into the pressure cooked in that time frame, and that's presuming about 10 minutes to julienne each vegetable.
  9. Coming late to all of this stuff about Jock's book being a load of lies according to many - wow! I saw it the other day when in a bookshop and thought it might be a good read...until now!
  10. Bit quiet on this thread! I just came here to say that for such a fast swimmer, Thorpey is one of the slowest veggie choppers I've seen on Masterchef. I would say of the work in that teams challenge, he did about 20% to Tilly's 80%! I thought Nick and Rebecca deserved to win the challenge but a part of me hoped that the Navy team would win because Matthew Le Nevez... sigh...
  11. Totally. I'm not quite caught up with all the episodes as I had to go out tonight but I was crushed to see Chrissie go first. She's absolutely a national treasure and one of THE most likeable people you could ever come across and she took all of her various kitchen disasters in such good heart. And Thorpey was so sweet to her after her elimination. Dilruk really didn't need to play that pin as it turns out but I can totally see why he did.
  12. I'll be watching! It will be a good replacement for my guilty pleasure The Masked Singer AU.
  13. Another field medal in the women's high jump! Australia hasn't done this well (relatively speaking) in track and field for many years. We expect to do well in swimming but we've gotten used to never even making finals in track or field events. It's a nice change.
  14. OMG! Finally, a basketball Olympic medal for the Boomers! After four 4th placings even a bronze is sweet!
  15. Wow. Sifan Hassan is a machine. I so wish she'd managed to pull off the triple gold but even two golds and a bronze across the three events is incredible.
  16. Me too, because many years ago in Australia, someone did. 😔
  17. I felt so sorry for their last runner. He looked absolutely gutted because they only lost by 0.01 and I'm sure he blames himself on some level. :( But what a great effort from Italy. They were on fire. And to be honest, again, no offence to the US forum members but when one team always wins, every time like the US men's 4x100 teams used to, it's not as exciting as tonight's final was when three teams could realistically have won it if things had fallen into place. And yes, I recognise mileage may vary on this one!
  18. Amazonian Aussie javelin thrower Kelsey Lee Barber.
  19. The beautiful Averina twins, rhythmic gymnastics. And yes, despite their very youthful appearance they are 23!
  20. I never thought the Boomers could actually beat Team USA but if we leave with another fourth placing, that is gonna suck. I hope they can scrape themselves back together enough to beat Slovenia and at least get bronze.
  21. So an Australian kid won the men's park skateboard gold medal and opened his mouth to speak in his post-victory interview...and he sounds totally Anerican. Turns out he was born in San Diego and moved here when he was young, but his accent remained intact!
  22. Oh, I see what you mean! He looks like he would be a nice bloke, too. 😍 And here he is cooling off in a pool!
