  1. I hated the slapping. Especially because Dennis made it clear, when he got caught taking the photos, that he was trying to clear Michael's name. I get that she shouldn't be expected to be particularly logical or clear-headed in that moment. But no way would it take three years to clear that up, unless she remained completely obstinate the entire time, and refused to even consider an obvious explanation.
  2. He was dismissive of the way some of the women went on and on (like the woman who was ranting about how her car heater blows cold air when she first starts her car - or maybe it was that the air conditioner blows hot air into the car, whichever.) But I don't think he was completely dismissive of AA. At least, not once he realized that it was extremely important to Bonnie. Adam should have been more sensitive with how he handled his use of substances around Bonnie. But so far as we saw, Bonnie never communicated to him that it was an issue for her sobriety, so there's blame to go around. Especially considering how badly Bonnie treated him whenever she went on one of her crazy spells. I have a hard time believing he's really gone, because there's a whole lot they never directly addressed about his drinking/pot smoking and its effect on her.
  3. My take on it was that he wasn't thinking. He liked the comforts available in the retirement home, and he likes having his wife around, and he never stopped to think that she would be way too young for it to make any sense.

I thought Brian Bedford was almost too good. He seemed so sweet and sad, I just felt terrible for him. Am I the only one who was really disturbed that Niles was being romantically pursued by his own cousin? They treated her like any other overly amorous character, and disregarded the incestuous nature of the whole thing.
  5. People who have been through that typically still have to deal with the record of their arrest appearing in print. I guess there might be enough Rebecca Bunches in the world that it wouldn't be easily searchable, but it doesn't strike me as all that common a name.
  6. I absolutely think Harvard would have wanted to deal with the issue quietly. But from what we saw, Rebecca must have been arrested, and once it's been reported that you were arrested for arson, it's pretty tough to get into Yale Law School, or be admitted to the New York Bar (unless you can prove that nothing ever came of the arrest).
  7. I don't think the writers were trying to depict Dr. Akopian as a particularly professional therapist. It seems like she pretty much gave up on helping Rebecca. A while back, she accepted that Rebecca only heard what she wanted to hear during their sessions, but she was willing to see her anyway in order to pay for a speedboat. When Rebecca was close to making a breakthrough, Akopian was thrilled. But that was thwarted by Josh's proposal, and it looked like she gave up again. As for the realism of Rebecca being accepted to Yale Law, and (presumably) the New York Bar, after committing a major act of arson? I have my doubts. Even if it was expunged from her record, a Harvard student being arrested for burning down a professor's home would have to have made the papers. And they check on applicants' backgrounds quite seriously.
  8. Definitely not. It's very rare for a law school to require interviews, period. We can fanwank it by saying he requested an interview with someone at the law school, to help him figure out if law school is the right fit. But that would be putting more thought into it than the writers did.
  9. When Sophia said something about her mother having the hair removed from her lip, I thought the joke they were going for was that she misunderstood what that Russian woman was doing to her mother (ie, Heather was having hair removed from...other lips.) Clearly I've watched too many filthy sitcoms. Anyway, I enjoyed this one a lot. I loved that Tyler and Clementine's mail gets accidentally delivered to Sophia's playhouse.
  10. If he got them from a dispensary, yes. But if he got them from a friend, or made them himself, it would be a different story. I think the writers' justification for the characters' cluelessness (in not realizing they were high) was that they didn't have Marjorie's common sense to guide them. But I still don't buy it. Jill may be spoiled and self-absorbed, but she's not stupid - no way would she watch Bonnie and Christy acting like that and not put two and two together. This was a funny plotline that required a huge suspension of disbelief. It would have been a lot more believable if the characters hadn't been established as experienced drug users. (And if they lived in a cave.)
  11. Law school sounds like a horrible fit for Michael. He hated desk work, he doesn't test well, and he wants excitement. What the hell is he thinking? He wasn't right to blow up at Jane, but I completely understand why he did. If you're going to use the printer all day, say so, and I'll find a different room to do my work in. But if someone keeps saying, "This will be the last time," and does it over and over again, I'll lose it, too.
  12. Sorry, Juliette, but if a man tells you that he's unwilling to have a monogamous relationship, and you decide to be with him, then you're in an open relationship. "He slept with other women during our open marriage!" is a pathetic excuse for abandoning your husband the moment he (magically) regains lucidity after years of dementia. I can see why you and Noah got along so well, though - you both have a knack for displaying the worst judgment possible.
  13. Of course it's possible. But TV writers generally seem to find it a challenge. It's probably why Xiomara and Rogelio haven't stayed together - keeping them together, and happy, would have eliminated a lot of the storyline possibilities. If Michael is indeed being killed off, my guess is that it's something they planned from the beginning. That "until the end of his life" line from season 1 isn't something writers just throw out there for the hell of it.
  14. But with Christy not knowing for sure if Nick was aware of his aunt being in AA, she shouldn't have said anything about it in front of him.
  15. No matter how lovable and well-behaved Aiden might be, he isn't going to be able to deliver lines or understand blocking to the extant that an older child can. That's generally the issue with toddler actors - even when they're cooperative, they're almost never directable the way that slightly older kids are. Regarding the writers' ability to come up with plotlines for Jane and Michael as a happy couple, I agree that they should be able to do it. But it's something that TV writers struggle with constantly.
  16. I can understand why the writers would want to do a 4-year time jump. It's an absolute nightmare dealing with toddlers on the set of a TV show (or a movie). Lots of series have had characters go straight from being babies to being in kindergarten. As for why they'd kill of Michael - if that's actually happening, and it isn't because Brett Dier wanted to leave (or needed to leave), my guess would be that it's a lot harder to come up with juicy, soap-tastic plotlines for a main character who's in a happy, healthy relationship. I also wouldn't be surprised if Michael comes back in a "shocking" twist.
  17. It reminded me of Michael on Arrested Development asking his mother, "Why are you squeezing me with your body?" I could see someone in Gunther's position choosing not to call the police for well-meaning reasons. This was someone he knew from his childhood, and from what we saw, it was clear that Noah was motivated by fear rather than malice. Calling the police would have been the safest thing to do. But someone in his shoes might take pity on Noah, and encourage him to get help rather than sending him back to prison.
  18. Tyler was supposed to be quite smart when the series began. He was accepted to the University of Michigan (from out of state, no less), wasn't he? I guess one could argue that he's book smart and just dumb about real world concepts like financial responsibility, but I'm not buying it at this point.
  19. Prior to her saying it was early to tell people, what was telegraphed about her miscarrying?
  20. I have to wonder why they chose to throw the "I'm not supposed to tell anyone yet because it's early, but I can't help it" line. Why telegraph the miscarriage so blatantly? Maybe they thought it would be easier on the audience if they were clued in what was about to happen.
  21. I don't buy for a second that Manny would choose his safety school just to be with Luke. That's the exact opposite of his personality. I really wish the show would just stop using those characters after they graduate high school, except for when they're home for holidays or special occasions.
  22. If you take them every day, you'll get addicted pretty soon. If you don't take them every day, and only take them when the pain is bad, you should be fine. (Although there are people with addictive personalities who start out convinced they'll only take them as necessary, and end up taking them every day.)
  23. I'm not completely convinced that Noah raped Helen, only because I don't believe a single thing we see from his perspective. He's such an unreliable narrator that I wouldn't be surprised if he also thinks he shot Archduke Ferdinand.
  24. I'll say this for Adam - as much as he has some major issues, I don't think he's any worse than Bonnie. She stole his wheelchair and kept it away from him. She copied his handicap placard so that she could use it for herself. And she's been wildly irrational and spiteful at times. He should be more considerate with his drinking, but if he's endangering her sobriety, it's up to her to say something about it. The only time we saw anyone confront him about his use of substances was when Christy went berserk because he drank in front of Roscoe - and there was no indication that she'd ever previously asked him not to do that. And we don't know if he's ever done it again. Whether he's an alcoholic or not is almost besides the point when it comes to their relationship. Bonnie's been in AA for years; she has to know that it's bad for her to be around someone who binge drinks. If he's that oblivious, she needs to speak up for herself.
  25. In the episode when we found out that Greg was technically born a bastard, I think they said he was born in 1981.
