  1. I don't think it is that there is a shortage of dogs to rescue; it is that, as Almost 3000 said, the rescue groups take the highly adoptable dogs and leave behind the less adoptable dogs (pit bulls primarily). I have found that to be a the case at the shelter I volunteer at. Almost all of the small dogs get taken by the rescue groups. People will come in and want to adopt the dogs but they can't, because they have already been reserved for a rescue group. One person asked me, isn't the goal to get the animals in a permanent home? I had no answer for her. Why hand over a dog that someone wants to adopt to a rescue group just so they can charge more to adopt the dog out? Meanwhile, we have pit bulls sitting in the shelter for 6+ months. That being said, there are some rescue groups that do specialize in less adoptable dogs and do help dogs with behavioral or medical issues that cannot be addressed properly in a shelter. I am curious as to what type of dogs that Lisa has in her shelter and if she only has the breeds that would be easily adopted anyway.
  2. My personal opinion is that it undermines the cause. It makes it seem like she comes from a place of cultural insensitivity. Saying torturing all animals is wrong presents a clear message. Saying torturing some animals is wrong, but torturing others is ok does not.
  3. That is not the same thing. It is not like she is a vegetarian, but she choses to focus her time protesting Yulin and not the US farm industry. She supports the US farm industry through her consumption of meat products and owning and running restaurants that serve meat products.
  4. I would expect if she served humanely raised meat in her restaurants you would see it on the menus, websites, etc. Restaurants that go to the effort and expense to keep humanely raised meat generally use it as a big advertising point. I would also expect her to have mentioned it at some point. Why would she be so vocal in other animal advocacy areas but keep this a big secret?
  5. Exactly. In general, the animals that become meat that is consumed in the US is not treated well either. If LVP only ate humanly-raised meat, which we have no indication that she does, I would not say she is a hypocrite. I agree that the Yulin dog festival is terrible. That is not the question. I am asking, why is it ok to torture a cow, if it is not ok to torture a dog?
  6. What bothers me about LVP's vocal condemnation of the Yulin dog festival is that she is not a vegetarian. I took a look at Sur's menu and it is filled with animal products. So I guess the torture and murder of pigs, cows, and chickens is totally cool? It makes her seem culturally insensitive - it is ok for us to torture the animals we have deemed can be tortured, but not for you to do the same. I know that most people in the US eat pigs, cows, and chickens, but not dogs, but I think if you are putting yourself out there as an advocate, you should be held to a higher standard. She should at least recognize the hypocrisy.
  7. There was a new episode last night?
  8. Not to mention, Pedro is not fluent in English and probably had a minimal understanding of what the document actual said.
  9. Seriously. No one is that obvious about smelling him/herself
  10. Hmm, I wonder who will last longer, Patrick and Julie or Matt and Alla? Julie seemed pretty embarrassed by Patrick's behavior.
  11. I thought it was interesting at that meal that Nicole's sister was sitting next to May and Nicole was at the other end of the table. You have not seen your daughter in over a month! I wonder how much parenting Nicole does even when she is not overseas.
  12. The flowers seemed so Etsy to me. I think there are 2,000 people on Etsy selling the same thing. Sorry Meagan, there are people on Etsy selling bouquets of craftsy flowers. Etsy used to have a wedding blog where they showcased people who bought a lot of stuff on Etsy, and they all had the same look. The craftsy non flower flowers - flowers made from books or maps are especially popular, also bouquets made from broaches - mismatched plates, vintage suitcases, and the bride wearing a non-traditional short dress.
  13. Re the joint bank accounts, when my husband and I were applying for his green card, our attorney told us to put all of the bank accounts in both of our names. He said it looked better to the immigration authorities. That could be why Melanie and Devar have a joint bank account despite her not trusting him with money. (But I think the preview for next week is just Melanie faking Bev out.)
  14. Alex's comment to the defending champ that she probably does not eat the food she cooks because she is skinny was so rude. I could not believe that comment.
  15. I was so confused. They were acting like she was permanently infertile.
