The Neighborhood in the Media

The article says this would be the 2nd spin-off from the show. What was the first one?

They gave Tracy Morgan (who played Calvin's brother in a few episodes) a show "Crutch" although he is no longer Calvin's brother, but is now a cousin of The Neighborhood’s Calvin Butler.

The show is currently filming episodes.

Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, who goes by “Crutch,” is a brash, yet beloved Harlem shop owner whose world is turned upside down when his highbrow son and free-spirited daughter move back into the family home.

From executive producer Cedric the Entertainer, Tracy Morgan is joined in his new Paramount+ sitcom, Crutch, by the supremely talented Jermaine Fowler (Coming to America 2, Superior Donuts) and Obie Winner Adrianna Mitchell (Fat Ham, Snowfall). An expansion of Cedric's very popular CBS series Neighborhood in it's 7th Season, Cedric was quoted as saying "Morgan plays Crutch, a ‘say-it-like-it-is’ widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home, and let’s just say there will be several comedic complications.”

So Marty and Malcolm would move far away from Tina & Calvin. How does that make sense with Marty owning the car business with Calvin, and the mother of his daughter also living in the area?

But even beyond that, how would the original The Neighborhood work without the brothers in there? They are a big part of the show.

They would have to expand Marty and Malcolm a lot to make this work.

There are plenty of ways to migrate M+M to a new city.  Courtney could get a Dream Job offer elsewhere and Marty would need to follow in order to remain close to his daughter. He sells his interest in the business (hmm, to Dave?) and works remotely for JPL again.  Malcolm can also be offered a coaching position elsewhere, or even decide to pursue a higher-level degree at another university.

What I fear is that suddenly, "Cousin Oliver" shows up on the Butler doorstep.

Oh I just read something shocking: The sitcom’s seventh season finale will serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off revolving around Marty and Malcolm’s move to Venice.

What are they planning?

backdoor pilot for Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears spinoff
Marty (Spears) and Malcolm (McKinney) Butler as they embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents’ nest to start the next chapters of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that’s both close by yet worlds apart: Venice Beach.

Justin Long as Bruce, a tech millionaire who is a mix of unjustified confidence and social ineptitude. Cerebral, impulsive and a genius, Bruce has no boundaries or filter when it comes to saying what’s on his mind but deep down there’s a sweetness at his core and his sincerity ultimately wins Marty and Malcolm over

Kara Royster as Matisse. A child of privilege, Matisse is Malcolm’s new neighbor and a would-be influencer. On the surface, she’s spoiled rotten but she’s also smart, interesting, sharp and analytical. When her father stopped bending to her every whim, she took it as a wake-up call and is now selling her own fabulousness.

Hunter King as Bellamy. Dark, sardonic and often under the influence of edibles, Bellamy works generating content for the coolest cannabis boutique in SoCal. Despite her jaded outlook, she’s also hilarious, fun and a fiercely loyal friend. Bellamy does have secret dreams of doing something bigger, but for now, she’s content in her carefully curated world of detachment and irony. content creator

Angelique Cabral as Lisa. Impeccably dressed, high energy and unpredictable, Lisa is a fast-talking book agent who seems genuinely passionate about Malcolm’s writing talent and hopes to represent him and take him to the top of the literary world.
