I feel bad for Max, you can see in his eyes that he's lost right now.  In the pic on the top there is still life/light in his eyes.  In the pic on the bottom, he looks like he feels hopeless.

Back when that first picture was taken, it was when was saying that having a child as a teenager was going to be a shortcut to becoming a millionaire by the time he's 25, or something like that.  If that's what made life/light in his eyes, then good riddance.

Personally, I don't put much stock in random photos like that.  Anybody can look hopeless for the length of a shutter click, and anybody can look hopeful when he's delusional, not to mention happy that his plan to knock up his girlfriend worked.

Well...that is a common form of babytalk, so I won't hold that against her.  That's probably the ONLY thing.

Thanks for saying that.  I've heard the "Granny says her can" as babytalk at some point, but was shuddering to think that it was someone of Alex's mom's ilk, and who have I known who's of Alex's mom's ilk?  I'm now comforted by the belief that it's more widespread than that.

I do feel bad for [Max's] dad, but the dad needs to buck up. He has the demeanor of a 15 year old boy talking to his grandma about sex.  He is so meek.

I think he's way over his head in this.  For all we know, he did with Max's mother what you're suggesting he do with Max, and I could see him being terrified to do that again, even though they're obviously two different people.  And even if it's not that exact case, I'm sure he's wracked with guilt about Max's mother's overdose and death, and no doubt has a list of the mistakes he made that he's sure contributed to it, so he's pussyfooting around.

None of this excuses his inaction with Max, because Max is going to end up dead if nothing changes.  But I almost kind of feel sorry for him...until he talks about what a smart kid Max is, and I just can't.

Every photo of Max from current day, and in fact even on the show, he looks dead in the eyes.  If I had to really search for that one photo where he looks hopeless, I wouldn't have included the photos as a point in my post.

Those women were complete jackasses to Tyra. She was beyond kind to go straight from the hospital to take the baby there, when they couldn't even drag themselves to go see her. Then they were rude the whole time. She's a better person than me, for sure because I would have cut the visit waaayy short. I think Alex has potential to be a great father. He seems to want to be. It's hard being stuck between your mother/grandma and girlfriend. He's young. Hopefully he will figure things out.

I just watched the clip on YouTube - holy hell are we serious?  Give her to me!  Giver her to ME!  Hurry up and be done so I can have her, followed by:  Geez you need some supports for breast feeding - YA THINK?  How about a comfortable place and NO AUDIENCE!!!  And no peanut squad yammering at you?  The MINUTE my mom in law, or ANYONE tried to wake up a baby I would have been, "Honey, pack the car back up, we are leaving."

Screw Van Vonderen.   I have zero respect for anyone who makes a lot of money lecturing people about their drug and alcohol abuse and talking about his own recovery when he's going home and getting drunk at night. Hypocritical asshole.

Wow!  Relapse is sometimes part of the overall recovery.  He's an alcoholic, a sick man, not a hypocrite.

WAIT WHAT????  This is common??  Where?  I refuse to believe there are people speaking like this.  I cannot wrap my head around it at all.

Max has legal residence at the house.  His Father can't simply kick him out.  He would need to go through the steps to evict him.  That's if his Father owns the house, I don't know how it works if he's renting.

Well Max is certainly the king of denial. I feel sorry, to a point, for his father. A restraining order would work just fine for Max. Clean drug tests every other day or get out. My sister had to get one for my 28 year old heroin addict nephew. The judge asked her for a list of unacceptable behaviors (drug use, foul language, refusing to do chores, etc) and she included every one of them on the order.  He lasted 3 days before he screamed and cursed at her. He was arrested that night for violating. He’s been in jail for 3 weeks bc no one would bail him out. Chloe is an idiot if she can’t see there’s way more wrong with Max than meets the eye.

I think Tyra may be the most mature person on the show, parents included. The women in Alex’s family are Neanderthals.

Someone needs to smack ungrateful, bitchy McKayla right in the mouth. What a spoiled little brat!

Chloe and Max. They seem to get worse and worse. Her parents are jerks and she's acting as though she's not all that committed to him. Worse yet, she doesn't seem all that committed to acting rationally. She doesn't think he needs counseling? She doesn't think they need counseling?

The only sane one in the bunch seems to be his poor father.

Max is in so much denial it isn't funny. The best thing his dad can do is get him off tv and get him into residential treatment asap. And Chloe is so naive to not see how troubled he really is. She thinks everything will be perfect when they get their own place. She is in for a rude awakening.

This is what happens when everyone manages to deflect who is really responsible for a bad situation. By constantly pointing the finger at her parents Chloe gets to recreate her reality. She is convinced that she and Max will be ok if they get away from her parents.
