Twin Peaks will be having a panel at SDCC this weekend. I'm not sure I will know the links to post to that but I'm sure they will be around.

For SDCC, Bill Mumy wrote about Miguel Ferrer.

This has already been around, I guess, but I also saw this article about a photo shoot featuring "new" images (with actors who sort of look like the actors) of old Twin Peaks characters (Bobby, Laura, Audrey).

Mark Frost says Carl Rodd was an original Bookhouse Boy.

David Warner talks about his career, including Twin Peaks (he doesn't really have much to say about it as he didn't actually work with David Lynch and he pretty much just did the role for his mortgage).

There are two things I do know: It’s shot as one continuous movie that’s been broken up. There are so many times where you have to remember that this plays out over 18 hours. The other thing is, as deep as you think it is, it goes deeper. Whatever people’s hypotheses are, they’re just scratching the surface. That’s a cookie that I will give to people who are curious. Trust me, it’s deeper than anyone can expect.

Nice interview with Michael Horse. There is, however, kind of a spoiler in there:

Part 2 of an interview with Dean Hurley, the musical collaborator, confirms there will be a theatrical release of the series:

Quote

I always thought that with Twin Peaks there would be this moment where we’re finished and we pop the champagne and pat each other on the back. But a show like this just keeps going in a weird way. I’m still working on it, even though it’s being aired. There’s all these other elements like mixes for a theatrical screening that will happen or the soundtrack and yeah, it’s been a lot of work.

Commentary from a Twin Peaks fan who met Sabrina Sutherland, Lynch's right hand, at the TP Fest and learned this:

David and Mark obviously co-wrote the series... to a point. Around the time they handed things over to Showtime, things changed a bit. Mark went off to write The Secret History of Twin Peaks and David directed the whole thing, but the interesting thing to note here is that, as you all may recall, the series Showtime announced was going to be 8 or 9 episodes. There was that whole drama where David announced he quit, Showtime caved, and now we have 18 episodes. This was NOT a case of the existing material simply being stretched out. According to Sabrina, David actually continued to write. So this seems to have shifted the level of writing involvement more heavily to Lynch than Frost. EDIT: For clarity, it's not that David wrote nine more episodes. It's more like he wrote more scenes interspersed throughout the existing material.

More here, including Jan D'Arcy talking about how Eamon Farren was so upset by the assault scene in Part 10 he called his own grandmother.

Les Moonves raves about TP boosting Showtime subscriptions.

Additionally, there's this bit of interesting news out of the TP Fest per a NeoGAF poster who was there and spoke to the aforementioned Sabrina Sutherland:

There is a desire on the production side, but the show needs to finish airing before discussions can begin with Showtime.

Followed by this Deadline article, with Showtime execs saying there haven't been discussions (yet) but:

UPDATE: It took more than 27 years for Twin Peaks to return to television. With the 18-episode followup season nearing the end of its run on Showtime, could there be another installment of David Lynch’s cult series?

“It was always intended to be one season,” Showtime president and CEO David Nevins told Deadline at the Showtime TCA party. “A lot of people are speculating but there’s been zero contemplation, zero discussions other than fans asking me about it.”

That said, “The door’s always open to David Lynch, whether that would lead to another season, I don’t know if he wants to do it,” said Showtime programming president Gary Levine, who was ABC’s executive on the original Twin Peaks series and played a key role in bringing the revival to Showtime. “This was a Herculean effort. I’m not sure if any director has ever done 18 hours in a row of a series… It’s remarkable what he achieved, fans are liking it and for me that’s what’s satisfying.”

For now, at least, Nevins isn’t expecting another season of “Twin Peaks,” which was a tremendous, four-year undertaking for Lynch, who directed all 18 hours. Nevins hasn’t shut the door on the idea of another round of episodes, but admits he’s not racing to approach the auteur.

Asked if he’ll wait until Lynch calls him, Nevins admitted, “yeah, probably.”

It sounds a bit like they put words in his mouth, but I can see where this would be enough for them unless Lynch wants more and approaches them.

At the very least it makes me think there's a shot if Lynch does want to do something, which I'm happy about as I think there's still some good things they could do with the material and overall I've enjoyed this season a lot.

You already mentioned this but here's another short article about the quarter and how it beat projections.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/cbs-earnings-boosted-by-twin-peaks-final-four-2017-08-07

At the very least this tells you the talk from some about how it was a disappointment for them and they just want to be done with it, etc. doesn't hold much water, as they're happy to credit it with some of their success.

I'mI not David Lynch, sadly, it must be fun in his head, but I wonder if we could get a movie? I think it depends on how it ends, if anyone is left standing.

That was so horrifying it is hard to remember it was flanked by other things that were equally as horrifying. Yikes!

I really enjoy reading these articles and I appreciate someone finding them for me, since I'm not nearly as good at it (apparently). Thank you for this.

Not sure if this is the place for this, but I was reading some of the speculation about Audrey and thinking that it wouldn't be surprising if Audrey, with or without evil Richard Horne as her adult son, had become an fbi agent and one of the blue roses, maybe it even would have been likely if she hadn't been in the explosion. Her encounter with Cooper was a life changing encounter even if it didn't turn out to be a romantic one.  So I can see her arguing for that outcome with Lynch and losing the part to Chrysta Bell, for whatever of Lynch's reasons.

The whole FBI agent Audrey thing has been fanfic from one line of dialogue for like 25 years. I respect people's feelings, but I just never saw her going there, it felt like wish fulfillment. As much as lots of folks at the show (including Fenn) have critiqued this turn,* I found her role as her father's business heir - and using his empire for social activism and shaking up the status quo, as she did in the late episodes of S2 - much more in keeping with who she was.

(* - Ironically enough I'm pretty sure Sherilyn Fenn had a hand in the metamorphosis in Audrey she now complains about - in Brad Dukes' oral history book, either Harley Peyton or Bob Engels, the two key staff writers below Lynch and Frost, says that many of the actors wanted changes in their characters in between seasons. I think it was Peyton who said Fenn was tired of Audrey's schoolgirl image and wanted her to be in power suits and "more like Katharine Hepburn", while Lara Flynn Boyle, of course, wanted Donna to be more like Audrey, whose role at that time had supplanted her in popularity.)

On another note: Be careful out there. Potentially legit synopses of the final four eps may have leaked online from - yes - a Russian broadcaster.

Is there nothing they don't want to ruin this year? Jesus.

I didn't even think Twin Peaks aired in Russia. The Game of Thrones leaks (I know that wasn't Russia - I don't think?) I could see because that show is so huge but I never thought anyone would make that effort for Twin Peaks. It's a shame because I enjoy looking for discussion about the show yet now I'm going to be wary of going to most places.

Ain't It Cool News (apparently that's still a thing in 2017!) has the spoilers and there were some posted on a Reddit thread I was reading that, fortunately, were deleted by mods before I saw them.

My Twin Peaks Twitter follows are all fan sites, writers, and actors. I guess I won't be checking #twinpeaks from now on though. Most people are very insightful and fun but it only takes one shitlord to ruin it.

Many years ago there was a comic book miniseries called Siren that was sort of a noir crime set in a world where superheroes and the supernatural are real. It was good but not great, and eventually Powers did the same thing better, so I don't know anyone else who remembers it. I was reminded of it because something about Tammy reminded me of the main character from Siren. Not that they look alike but that they come from the same archetype. Pics:

Not sure it was deliberate. IIRC the leaks in this case are from a Russian broadcaster which posted some episodic synopses of the final four in brief paragraph form - bullet points of plot. The synopses were screencapped and promptly translated by 4chan and reddit.

I think it was probably some incompetent staffer at the Russian network or cable outlet making a mistake. Still: classic Russia.

I never saw Ben giving up the business, as indeed he hasn't!  I also wasn't sure I saw her as a minion of her fathers empire. There was that period when it looked as if he would just batshit off into the sunset, though.

I think the FBI was a real possibility for her but unlikely because evil  coop would have gotten to her one way or the other

I'm glad you're enjoying it.  I tuned in at the beginning out of curiosity because I was a total 'Peaks freak' back in the day (heck, I even put up "Join the Lynch mob -- watch Twin Peaks" signs around my college campus), but it hasn't grown on me, and I'm really just watching the remainder out of respect for Lynch (and I have this personal need for completion).

PS:  Some may find the Dougie character endearing and Kyle MacLachlan's acting top-notch here, but I just find him utterly wasted.

It wouldn't have been as bad had it not been so drawn out or if his entire character was just reacting to everything else and repeating some words from time to time.  That and we don't even see the real Cooper struggling to get through or Dougie even attempting to head to Twin Peaks (which is most likely being drawn out til the end).

This is actually really sad since prior to being on TP, he was a major part of the fandom community.  Sadly, even before this incident he had begun acting very strangely in various groups resulting in him being banned from them.  Something very wrong happening there.

The moral to the story though is that sometimes you don't actually have to drink the Kool Aid first before going batty.

Interview with James Marshall.

Thought this was interesting:

Quote

Did you ever think about what James did in the 25-year gap between the old and new Peaks?

Kind of. David had already told me that James had a motorcycle accident, so he’s a little bit different now, but not much. And he’s different in ways that we’ll find out later.

That's how I felt for a lot of season 2. For me it's been a career-best for Kyle.

I respect your opinion, and that you're still posting here in spite of people praising the show, whereas a lot of people who hated the show (including the recapper presumably) left months ago. Usually when I am not into a show I either ragequit or just complain all the time so I respect that you are much more mature about things like this than I am. It's a good life lesson.
