I think if we just exchanged his personality for Alan Kaye's we'd all think his wooden spoon was cute. I've tried to ignore some of the personality quirks of Sam and Larry. They can both be a little off putting, but that doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. Britt seems to be the most camera friendly of the 3 remaining people, but had Larry lost 3 hooks doing what Britt did I think people would be harder on him. Similar to what you note about how viewers might be more sympathetic to someone like Alan. IMO Sam is doing projects like the cup and spoons to keep his mind occupied. There has to be a lot of down time and you can only sit around for so long doing nothing. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/73179-s05e09-starvations-shadow/page/2/#findComment-4582445

Don’t whine about supporting your family. Winning a game show isn’t an entitlement, nor should it be seen as the pillar of your life plan. He reminds me of bushcraft video guys who say “hey guys, we did it” all the time and craft wooden spoons using a $400 knife. If he wins it’s because of all the lard he smuggled under his sweater, which continues to look like the best strategy for victory. Yep. What you said. I have come to despise Sam for his sense of entitlement. Dude... my father and mother worked in textile factories without looking up because they had a small apt to pay rent for, me, and later my sister and brother. I’m sick of people like Sam. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/73179-s05e09-starvations-shadow/page/2/#findComment-4583089

If you followed Sam since the first season you'd see that he is a natural doughboy. Witness he was checking out his double chin in the mirror. He still has it. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/73179-s05e09-starvations-shadow/page/2/#findComment-4584972

I guess that is a point into the theory that an Alone/Biggest Loser crossover would really produce both dramatic weight loss stories and people who could stay out there much longer. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/73179-s05e09-starvations-shadow/page/2/#findComment-4585809

All the Biggest Loser candidates would be early tap outs because they miss the pizza/donut shop company and needed to return to society. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/73179-s05e09-starvations-shadow/page/2/#findComment-4585898
Charlesman August 16, 2018 Share August 16, 2018 I was listening to a podcast about Alone and they made a good point that was a good reminder... We saw Larry go foraging up the mountain. He identified the puff balls, so he knows stuff about plants and when they're edible and when they're not. He said, for maybe the second or third episode, that he's been eating a lot of dandelions. But we haven't seen him eating dandelions. For all we know he's been having a dandelion and mushroom salad every day. It's 35-something days in and we're only now seeing him looking for plants, but he must have been foraging all this time. But we always see him yelling at the wind and cursing at the sun and dancing over tiny fish. That's what the editors want us to see of him. We wonder why Sam "wastes" time with spoons and mugs after 30 days... but maybe he's been hunting and fishing and foraging this whole time but we never see it. It makes us think that's all he does when that's all we see, but, there must be tons left out that colors our opinion of him. Anyway, good to keep in mind. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/73179-s05e09-starvations-shadow/page/2/#findComment-4593513
writbest November 26, 2018 Share November 26, 2018 they are all inept and lazy. If they'd read some of these forums and channels, they'd know how to feed themselves much better, and Larry could have gotten rid of the mice, easily. In fact, he should have baited them in and made them a regular food-source. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/73179-s05e09-starvations-shadow/page/2/#findComment-4870118
