I had the JATPC movie soundtrack. I feel like the songs in that movie were ridiculously catch. The actual movie was meh.

I'm not sure what was more disappointing for me the actual re-interpretation of the song or the least enthusiastic cheerleading routine ever filmed.

I unashamedly love the original "Sugar, Sugar" and the Semisonic/Mary Lou Lord cover. I was totally excited for this, but wow, that was terrible!

1969 per the Youtube title.  Per WP, the song was released in May of that year and spent 4 weeks at Number 1 in September-October.  I am guessing the video (which would have been part of the Saturday morning Archie cartoon) aired early in the fall season.

The original, the 1969 one , is way better. 

I also felt that the other two members of the Pussycats are WAY better singers than the Josie actress. The small portion of the song in which only those two  sing was easily the best part of the song.

I don't know...those Smells Like Teen Spirit cheerleaders could give the River Vixens a run for the money :)

The part of the cover where they actually singing the real song is the best part of the performance.
