I finally watched this.  Bailey's role seemed to be that of social commentator.  Arizona and Jo's roles seem to be that of internalizing the events to their own parent-child perspectives.  Jo might be starting to realize that she might have been wanted but not able to have been kept.  Arizona seems to start to feel discontented with the distance between herself and her daughter and how it is difficult to be a present parent from afar.  I don't really care what the patient did.  Arizona did come of harsh with her mother though.  It will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes out of the bottle(s) as the season progresses.

Considering this and future episodes where we meet other's parents, it seems that the second half of the season will have some parent-child relationship themes.

Just catching up on this on Netflix. I realize it was a narrative device to not say what she did, but it bugged me. I don't want to be so distracted by the story that they're not telling that it takes away my enjoyment of the story they are telling. In my imagination, it was one of those "murdered the girl that her boyfriend cheated with" kind of situations.

ETA: Bailey should have hired Eldredge to run the Denny clinic. She clearly knows how to manage with few resources!

Interesting angle, for Grey's to address the treatment of pregnant prisoners and the issue of shackling while in labor, as well as the lack of healthcare resources there and the tough choices the healthcare staff must make in allocating resources.  I liked the episode for the fact that it was something different, but there was much that was just so unrealistic.  Like them all being admitted to the prison without showing ID, just because the lawyer walked up and demanded they be let through.  The lawyer and then Arizona suddenly being called away so first the doctors, then Jo, were alone with the prisoner.  Jo doing an ECV alone on a high risk patient with no one to assist.  Having Bailey wander unescorted around the prison hospital showing up in random rooms treating patients.

I thought it was most likely that she was pregnant by a stepfather or uncle or close family friend (I’m sure if you ask her mother not only was it consensual but she seduced him, and I’m sure in reality there was nothing consensual about it) and she killed him in a way that took a lot of other people with him and didn’t see a problem with that due to youth and trauma. The vulnerability, attachment to the baby, and genuine love for her mother expressed in the cartwheels on the beach anecdote and desire for the comfort of her presence during childbirth show a normal girl in a hellish situation. Of course she is warped. I cannot believe you expect this young girl who is incarcerated and has gone through everything that entails to be some kind of picture of poise and composure and rationality and social grace. The Mother indicates that she was normal until she wasn’t and choosing a man she loved over her daughter is an echo of Ellis and this show plays with echoes a lot. You people have remarkably limited understanding of trauma for fans of a show that deals with it so thoroughly and gracefully and you should probably call your kids and apologize.
