Season 7: Info, Casting and Spoilers (News Only, No Discussion)

It's that time of year again: information has started to trickle out about Season 7, the next season of GOT.

What we know:

D&D have said that they're thinking of doing a seven-episode Season 7, followed by a six-episode Season 8. Jack Bender stated in a recent interview that GOT would only have seven episodes in Season 7, although he doesn't seem to think he'll be back as a director.

Canary Islands is being considered as a location for Seasons 7 and 8, and GOT scouts have looked at or will be looking at Teide National Park, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. Meridian reports that GOT scouts are looking for temperate climates.

Javi from L7R has some more news about Season 7 filming:

1. GOT is not coming back to Girona (Oldtown, KL, Braavos) for Season 7. (Javi from L7R, who is in the know about Season 6 plot points, comments that they could have suspected this based on the ends of some Season 6 plots.) Javi says that Oldtown can be filmed elsewhere, warns the reader not to expect much of Braavos in Season 7. Javi also says that HBO's headed back to Dubrovnik for KL filming.

2. Javi suspects (and remember, he knows a lot more about Season 6 than he's telling) that similar to Girona, almost all the Season 6 locations will be out: locations used for Horn Hill, Dothraki Sea, and Meereen are all out. Javi warns that it's unlikely that Sam will return to Horn Hill, that Dany will return to the Dothraki Sea, that we'll get another flashback to the Tower of Joy, or that Meereen will be as relevant in the future. Almeria might be reused, due to the diversity of the landscapes there.

3. Looks like GOT will be back in Spain for Season 7, though, and not just for the Canary Islands.

4. Season 7 will have a number of battles either in castles or next to them. HBO is on the hunt for castles, which is great, because Spain has more than 2,500.

5. Fresco Films has been scouting locations in Galicia, but L7R can't 100% confirm it's for GOT. L7R says that Galicia is similar to Northern Ireland.

‘Game of Thrones’ Confirms Season 7 Has Been Delayed:

According to creators David Benioff and Dan Weis, Season 7 will not debut until later in 2017. Ordinarily, each GoT season launches in April, but as it stands, “We don’t have an air date yet, but this year will probably be a little bit later,” the two disclosed on the latest UFC Unfiltered podcast.

They also went on to say that “We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here’ – and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”

WOTW has been hearing from their sources that no major roles have been secured or leaked yet for Season 7, but casting continues.

Several young performers will be cast, apparently, so more than the two Northern children characters we already knew about.

YAFTA UK announced on Twitter that two of their young actresses, Lottie Cheverton and Hannah Waring, would be auditioning for GOT on July 9th. Both actresses are blond, blue-eyed, in their teens, and on the short side according to their YAFTA bios (5'3" and 5'1", respectively). YAFTA is a Yorkshire talent agency, and both actresses have Yorkshire accents.

HBO has confirmed a seven-episode Season 7, to begin in summer 2017.

Spain, Iceland and Northern Ireland have been confirmed as filming locations. Spanish filming locations include the following: Sevilla, Caceres, Almodovar del Rio, Santiponce, Zumaia, and Bermeo.

WOTW reports some more information:

Zumaia and Bermeo are in the Basque region.

Zumaia: Zumaia filming starts October 26th. The Zumaia filming location will be Itzurun Beach.

Bermeo: Bermeo filming starts in October as well, and filming will take place only on the shores of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. A technical team of more than 400 people will be needed for the Bermeo shoot.

Caceres: Filming in Caceres city and in Malpartida (a city in Caceres) starts in November. The filming location for Malpartida is believed to be Los Barruecos. One source is claiming the filming of water scenes there that will require many extras.

Almodovar del Rio: L7R confirms that the filming location will be the Castillo de Almodovar del Rio, with filming to take place in November.

Santiponce: GOT will be filming in the ancient Roman ruins of Italica.

How many different "cities" shoot in Belfast? There is a whole lot of nothing between Riverrun and Winterfell for Brienne & Pod. There's no logical reason for Jorah to search the North for a cure.

All of them. If someone's indoors (or doing an exterior mostly-CGI scene, like the WW attack on the cave), they're probably shooting in the Belfast studio. They go to other countries to shoot exteriors they can't shoot in NI: TOJ, Vaes Dothrak, Dorne, etc. The Meereen exteriors were all shot in Spain for Season 6, but the pyramid scenes were all shot in Belfast. The exteriors for Vaes Dothrak were shot in Spain, but Dany's scenes inside the temples were all shot in Belfast. To answer your question, then, Iain Glen's presence in NI doesn't tell us anything about where Jorah's going to turn up. If he turns up in one of the non-Belfast filming locations, locals will probably snap pics and report his presence on Twitter or Instagram, which might help pinpoint Jorah's "location" in Season 7.

Sources tell us that we can look forward to seeing Daenerys at the Dragonpit in season 7.

In the A Song of Ice and Fire books, the Dragonpit is a massive old building on a hill in King’s Landing. Years before the story as we know it begins, the Dragonpit was used to house the dragons of the Targaryens. Ultimately it was destroyed, with only the ruins remaining.

After seeing some of the new Spain locations for season 7, we speculated Game of Thrones might be using one for a dragonpit. There is no word yet if that site, the Roman ruins called Italica found in Santiponce, Seville, is the place where the Dragonpit will be filmed.

Besides the fact that we’ll be seeing another intriguing site, the larger takeaway from this news is that based on the Dragonpit’s established location and what our source told us, we can confirm Daenerys will be arriving in King’s Landing in season 7.

What comes next, well that we don’t know yet. But I don’t imagine Queen Cersei will be thrilled to find a Targaryen outside her doors…if Cersei still has her crown by this point.

Maisie Williams was snapped in a Northern costume almost identical to Lyanna Mormont's new costume (brown instead of grey, though): pics. The pics appear to have been snapped by the same paparazzo who snapped a number of other actors coming out of the makeup trailer in Corbet (Kit Harington, Maester Wolkan's actor, Gwendoline Christie, etc.).

New pics posted show that Isaac Hempstead-Wright was in the makeup trailer at the same time as Maisie.

Sophie Turner apparently told one of her fans (andiniria on Instagram) that she will start filming tomorrow.
