Athena February 22, 2016 Share February 22, 2016 Among the guests on Graham's sofa are Matthew Perry, talking about life, work, being Chandler Bing in Friends and his West End playwriting debut The End of Longing, British actress Gemma Arterton, taking the role of the 17th century royal mistress in Nell Gwynn, and actor Miriam Margolyes, talking about new documentary series The Real Marigold Hotel. Plus music from Jack Savoretti, who performs Catapult. Link to comment
Quof February 22, 2016 Share February 22, 2016 I'm no prude, but Jeezuz Miriam is crass. I'm getting tired of her "doddering no filter old lady" bit. I thought Matthew was going to have a stroke. 1 Link to comment

The other times she's been on it's the same thing - so I knew what to expect. Matthew looked like he'd been hit by a bus. Link to comment
SmithW6079 February 24, 2016 Share February 24, 2016 (edited) Matthew Perry sounded extremely nasally. Did he have a cold? The reviews for his play have not been kind: http://variety.com/2016/legit/news/the-end-of-longing-reviews-matthew-perry-1201704879/ I liked the discussion of the accents between Miriam and Gemma. I worked for British firms early in my career, and some of the ex-pats with "posh" accents looked down on others with more working class ones or they picked out who had put on a more upper class accent. attica February 24, 2016 Share February 24, 2016 I love Miriam without boundary. I wish she were on the couch more often. She always works up genuine rapport with the other couchers, with such good nature, even when what she's saying may be disagreeable. She has a way of being really encouraging to younger performers, too. (Plus she's Phryne Fisher's Aunt Prudence, so: all the points for that.) I view her more outlandish pronouncements as a confirmation that old ladies aren't asexual creatures with asexual pasts; I applaud it. Matthew Perry sounded extremely nasally. Did he have a cold? I thought so too, but my conclusion was far less generous than yours. Didn't he used to have a cocaine habit? 2 Link to comment
theatremouse February 26, 2016 Share February 26, 2016 He was also doing something weird with his jaw. He sounded extra nasally but he was talking awkwardly beyond just that. 1 Link to comment

Mumbles February 26, 2016 Share February 26, 2016 Matthew Perry sounded extremely nasally. Did he have a cold? Yeah, there was something off about how he was talking. Not only the nasally part, but the dragging out of the words. He sounded a bit like Dr. Evil (or Mike Meyers' Lorne Michaels' imitation, upon which Dr. Evil's voice was based. I loooove Miriam Margolyes on this show! She just doesn't care. The last episode I saw her on before this one, she called out Lily Allen for being a bitch, right on the show. I wouldn't have watched this episode without her - not a Friends fan, and the Gemma Arerton was very bland. 1 Link to comment
ChicagoCita April 9, 2016 Share April 9, 2016 I'm apparently terrible at lip reading. What did Miriam say she did in her knickers that completely flummoxed Matthew Perry? Link to comment
Quof April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 Lip reading? Did they bleep out Miriam saying she creamed her knickers? Keep it classy, Miriam. Link to comment
ChicagoCita April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 I believe that's it. Yes, it was bleeped. I've noticed BBCA seems a lot more prudish these days. Used to be that only word that got bleeped was fuck. Now it's filtered down to creamed? Wow. Link to comment
