S04.E06: The Calling Back

I cried during the sweat scene. It was both horrible (in that this particular type of sweat exists on regular basis) and beautiful in that there was such support for Gab/Morning Star.

I did find myself frustrated though - as a kidnapping would indeed be Federal jurisdiction and seem like something they'd absolutely investigate and prosecute. The frustration was that no one even mentioned that the kidnapping was a different - and more prosecutable - crime. Not to mention, one with far more severe consequences. But I assume that this is not the end of the story. There were too many threads left dangling.

BTW - I know the Rez is big - but how is a party like that on the rez something a bunch of white guys can do regularly without being evicted?

I'm not sure what to think about Ferg vs the new guy. Is he jealous of the new guy, threatened by him, resentful that he isn't Branch? Whatever his reasons, I do appreciate the new, more physical Ferg. As for the new guy (whose name I forgot and couldn't place him in IMDB credits) - does he remind anyone else of Shia LeBeuf?

Vic's eviction and general failure to do anything at home seemed a little out of the blue.

I very much appreciated the introduction into Mathias' world. We've only really seen him operate with Walt - and the window into the politics and relationships he has on the Rez was revealing, and made him far more interesting than before (and I always thought he was interesting).

On a shallow note, concerned, upset, suppressed rage Henry is incredibly attractive.,

I agree with this! Vic never seemed like the type to get so distracted as to let her bills and responsibilites lay around on the front porch.

But I am enjoying this season and seeing all the characters get a chance to shine.

This was a very powerful episode.  I agree the sweat scene was powerfully sad....and that this specific sweat existed to begin with.

I think the "stranger" white men had access to the Rez via the Casino which is on the Rez.  They pick up a couple of Rez girls at the Casino and find a quiet spot nearby to party, etc.?

Oh my, Henry is displeased....what to do.....what to do....(yum)

On another shallow note - it is always welcome to see Callum Keith Rennie on my screen.  (my favorite cylon)  :-)

I always like to see Callum Keith Rennie appear on a show.  He was a nice surprise.

I don't know what Netflix has done.  But I am really enjoying the show more now than I did when A&E did the show.  The writing and everything just seems improved to me.

Ferg does seem upset by Zach.  I expect if the new deputy gets his name replaced on the board where Branch had his that Ferg will explode.  It will mean having Zach's name above Ferg's.

Barry Sloane is probably suppose to be the new stud to replace Bailey Chase.  I have to quit thinking of Barry as Aiden on Revenge

That was powerful. I felt the mother's rage and how hard the victim tried not to feel, because what could she do with those feelings? Nothing can ever fix anything for her.

I thought this was going to be the usual L&O:SVU-type sex crime drama with the perps being hauled to justice and the victim getting a few minutes of closure at the very end of the show, but damn. That was just a little too real and it's going to stick with me for a very long time.

Clearly the show runners are using the extended platform Netflix provides to give stories more content and better characterization. Henry, Mathias, Cady and Ferg are all being used to great effect and the show is much better for it. An epsiode like this really brings home how bad life on the reservation can be and how badly the government can drop the ball. You really felt badly for Gabby and then the horror of how commonplace rape is was really brough home by the sweat at the end. Just really well done.

I think that may have been the first time we saw Walt and Matthias have a conversation where neither of them was mad at the other. It was nice to see them cooperating to try to bring Gab's rapists to justice.

So sad to see that enough rapes occur that there is a monthly sweat for them, but glad to see that the girls have the opportunity to deal with it together and support each other.

How is Vic too busy to pick up the mail piling up on her porch? I am not criticizing her for having a messy house (lord knows mine is nowhere near spotless) but leaving your mail out where anyone could steal it seems like terrible idea in this day and age where identity thefts don't need much information to wreak havoc.

Keep in mind: Walt was on a voluntary leave of absence for something like a month after Barlow's death while the FBI conducted its investigation, during which Vic had to function as acting sheriff during the lead-up to the casino's grand opening.  I could easily see Vic letting the job overrun personal responsibilities - although I don't think it realistic to expect her corporate landlord to legally execute a full-scale eviction process in that short a time frame.

This was such a good episode and it set up an arc with far reaching repercussions for the main characters. I really enjoy guest actors on Longmire. The actresses who played May, Gab, and Gab's mother are talented actresses. When Gab said her true name andbroken down in the sweat, I felt the depth of her pain and teared up. May's anger and determination that it couldn't end like this and that she would write a letter to Hector finished me off.

Julia Jones, who played Gab, did such a remarkable job.  She barely said 10 words in the first half of the episode but said volumes with her face.  It was just heartbreaking.

I wish that Henry would hook up with May.  I love her and they have so many of the same goals for people on the rez.  And Henry is incredibly attractive 100% of the time in my book. I prefer his stories and those of Mathias to Longmire (I know, I know, but I do!).

I love May also. I would have loved to see May with either Henry and Mathias. This was a missed opportunity.
