'Instinct’: Sharon Leal To Co-Star On New CBS Drama Series

Quote

EXCLUSIVE: Sharon Leal, who toplined the untitled Jenny Lumet drama pilot this season, is staying in the CBS/CBS Studios fold with a major series-regular role opposite Alan Cumming and Bojana Novakovic in the new drama series Instinct, which is set for a midseason premiere.

Leal will play a reconceived character which, in its original form, was played in the pilot by Khandi Alexander who is leaving the project.

Carl Lumbly, who has a guest role in Season 3, has also been the voice of J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter in several DC animated series and movies.

(I was watching one recently, and his voice was so recognizable!)

Melissa sings in an ad for Minecraft:

Quote

Recently, she took to using those super vocal chords in an ad for MineCon, the annual Minecraft convention hosted by developers Mojang. While the musical ad does a good job of promoting the upcoming graphics update to the blocky building game, it’s also just an entertaining watch in its own right, as Benoist takes a pleasant tour of a digital world and performs a few super stunts on the way.

It's pretty cute:

Brit Morgan (Live Wire) is a guest star again on this week's Riverdale (#2.07).

I'm enjoying here there even though I hope Live Wire comes back for her annual appearance in the second half of the season.

It may not, strictly speaking, be "another role," but Melissa is voicing Overgirl in the animated The Ray series on CW Seed.  For some reason, I'm finding her more effective there than she was playing the role in the crossover.

A couple of articles on the benefit reading:

'Charity Reading of ‘Terms of Endearment’ Sends Star Cast Into Tears',

Inside Stand Up to Cancer’s All-Star Script Read of 'Terms of Endearment'

Quote

The special performance reading sprang out of a conversation that Benoist and her on-screen co-star and off-screen partner Chris Wood had with their Supergirl boss Greg Berlanti over dinner while he was visiting the Vancouver set. The uber-executive television producer had recently lost his mother to cancer, and his desire to help raise funds to fight the disease suddenly dovetailed with a pursuit the couple had been enjoying.

“Chris and I read plays together out loud in our spare time. Greg was like, ‘Oh, well would you ever want to do that in front of people?’ And I said, ‘Sure,’” Benoist told THR. “And he said, ‘Well, do you you want to do it for a good cause?’ And we were like, ‘Of course.’”

Benoist shot off a text to Flockhart, who was instantly on board, and suddenly a project began to take shape: Belanti’s production company would team with his collaborator, TV writer-producer Jessica Queller to stage a benefit script reading.

'American Son' Coming to Netflix:

Quote

Rather than taping one of the final performances — the play wraps its Broadway run on Jan. 27 — Netflix will reassemble the cast, director and producers and tape the production without an audience present.

From playwright Christopher Demos-Brown, American Son centers on interracial parents who reunite in a Florida police station to search for answers about their missing teenage son. Washington will be joined by fellow Broadway stars Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan and Eugene Lee, who will all reprise their roles. Director Kenny Leon will return to direct the Netflix performance and produce alongside Jeffrey Richards and Rebecca Gold. Washington and her Simpson Street exec vp development and production Pilar Savone will also produce. Production on the Netflix take will begin in New York in February.

David Ajala Joins Season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’:

Quote

Former Nightflyers star David Ajala is boarding CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery as a new series regular for the upcoming third season of the sci-fi drama. Ajala, the biggest new cast addition for next season, will play a new character, Cleveland Booker (aka Book). He will be introduced Saturday during the Star Trek Universe panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. ...

Smart and capable, Ajala’s Book has a natural charisma and devil-may-care attitude that tends to get him into trouble as often as it gets him out.
