Flash Crossover Wish List

About the musical crossover -- hearing the word "musical", most people think Broadway and/or Disney -style song and dance numbers (spontaneous singing and dancing, fantasy-like), but I'm hoping we get a more 'Scott Pilgrim' tone, were music just happens to be integral to the plot and action. This clip from the movie (a literal music battle) illustrates how they combined music, action, and special effects: (*SPOILERS* if you've never seen the film)

Obviously, there would be a (much) smaller budget for effects, but I'd like it if they aimed for something as ambitious as this.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's not going to happen. First of all, without context, that scene makes absolutely no sense.  Second, it wouldn't be a "musical" episode -- it would simply be a regular episode where music just happened to be an incidental part of the plot resolution.  That's not what a musical is.  A musical by definition means that the music is the plot, not just incidental to it.

It would still be a musical because there would still be singing (and dancing?). I think there's room for both approaches.

According to this interview with Candice, the musical crossover will be episode 15 (#14 for Supergirl?).

You’ve also got the musical episode coming up this season. What can you say about that?

Nothing! We’re shooting episode eight right now, and I think the musical episode is going to be 15. I still don’t know very much about it so I’m super anxious, nervous, a little bit terrified, all of those things, to see how we’re going to pull it off. We’ve had bigger episodes, and I’ve always wondered how we’re going to get through it and somehow we always do. It’s going to be amazing.

Let me get this in before the real crossover airs:

1. Kara and Iris as reporting buddies. Hopefully lamenting all the great things they can't report on.

2. Kara and Caitlin freezing stuff together. (I have a sneaking suspicion Caitlin won't get to use her powers at all)

3. Kara stands next to Felicity with glasses and a ponytail. Similarities are noted.

4. Some kind of Superman reference in regard to Ray.

5. Kara burns stuff with Firestorm and/or Heatwave. Supergirl gets Heatwave's seal of approval.

6. Someone from Team Flash or Arrow comments on the whole other Vixen thing and confuses Amaya.

7. Some kind of acknowledgment of Heatwave previously kidnapping members of Team Flash.

8. Iris speaks with any member of Team Arrow or any member of Legends besides Firestorm (since we've seen them together since learning their identities). Lyla counts!

9. Captain Lance/Captain Lance confusion.

10. Barry doesn't make anything worse.

ETA: Bolding the things I get.

Was anyone else really underwhelmed by the crossover?  It just ... fell flat... to me.  Totally not worth the hype.

I just fail to understand why the writers don't know how to weave a story - maybe it's because the shows operate independently so they don't really share much?  Unlike Marvel shows, where they write to fit into a larger cohesive story that's bigger than them?

I kinda want to create another wishlist for next season but I'm just so non-motivated by the lackluster crossover.

Although I laughed when I got Ray's Superman reference.  That was cool.  And - did I miss something?  Felicity and Kara look nothing alike apart from the glasses and blonde hair (which one can buy)?  Their bone structure is totally different?  I don't get it.  Is that a thing in fandom?  I was confused it even was brought up in Fe's dialogue unless she was basically being self-deprecating of herself?

Oh I have a wish list item?  If they decide to have Barry sacrifice himself to an alien race - don't have him walking off to his doom without saying goodbye to Iris/Joe/etc..  That was piss poor writing.  These damn writers.

So far, and it seems the crossover really is on this show and LOT, because diddly squat happened on Arrow except for Berlanti stealing from Batman: The Animated Series' "Perchance to Dream" for 95% of the show last night.  Because he can't get Batman, he and his team are determined to steal as much of Batman's history and plots and use them for Ollie.????

At this point, I'm hoping we'll have more substance in the musical episode.

At this point they can keep the musical episode and all of these gimmicks.  If they would concentrate on better writing that utilized more characters to their strengths, they could do crosssovers better.  Just like last season's crossover - they could have easily utilized Iris' skills by having her stumble across something that would foretell the Dominators returning, etc.. and then weaving in bits and pieces all season to lead up to this and then show the fallout.

As it is, these writers try to trick fans into watching the other shows and getting hooked on them and hoping that's enough to keep them on those shows.  It's not.  Out of all 4 of the crossover eps, I enjoyed Arrow the most and that was ONLY because it didn't feel so much like a crossover show - it felt like an episode of Arrow with guest stars.  The only problem is that the characters I like are all dead, lol.  So I won't be watching Arrow again - I know the show I liked in S1 and S2 isn't there anymore.  Like Ollie said to Laurel, the show isn't the show I fell in love with and I deserve better.

Flash could have been better - it just felt like they just wanted to give something to Iris to do, but I just don't get why it had to be that when it could have been her investigating something that led to them finding the Dominators.  Hell I would have been okay with HR, Cisco or Caitlin discovering that - but them just showing up like that just felt weak and really poor plotting.

Can we find the DC Justice League and JLU animated series writers?  They understood long term and surprising plotting better.

HAH! @phoenics! The Arrow episode is the one I liked least because it was such an obvious rip-off!?

Other than Cisco's passive aggressive dickishness, I really liked it's crossover.

And I had to laugh at your comment that the writers should have had Iris find something on the Aliens last season, because that's giving them too much credit. I doubt they even thought about this last season-they've been fixated on the FUCKING Flashpoint since season one.

And I've just finished rewatching Young Justice and am now watching Justice League-"The Savage Time" so I KNOW the finale of the crossover will be lame after watching such awesomeness and AWESOME Barry Allen, Wally West, and Iris West-Allen.

At least I have season two to watch after!??

Re:  Iris, I meant that just like last season where I thought she could have been used to be finding out something weird with Vandal Savage, she could have done the same with the Dominators this season.  I wasn't clear enough in my anger, lol.

Oh - did you hear they are gonna do a Young Justice S3?  I'm so happy!

Re Iris- Ohhhhhh.

Young Justice- YES!!! I posted about it in that forum and Weisman better as fuck bring back Wally! I still haven't forgiven him for what he did, even if I'm convinced Wally would have come back if we'd gotten that third season with the Darkseid arc.

It was sort of weird to me that this Legends episode took place in Central City yet we didn't see the Wests at all. You know, if Iris was a TV reporter they could have easily shown her in clips reporting on the alien invasion, the president, all that stuff. They should go ahead and make her on TV journalist instead.

I can easily imagine material for that- she gets exclusive interviews with The Flash, who'll only talk to her. She's the way to have him reach out to the rest of the city. If she's a local celebrity it would be a way to incorporate the rest of Central City more instead of cooping everything up in Star Labs all the time.

I'm surprised there hasn't been many (any?) teases or spoilers for the musical crossover by now. I think they should have a script by now?

Anyway, I thought of someone who would be good with directing this: Marc Webb. He has experience with musicals, music videos, and superheroes; and is a producer for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

EW write-up on the musical crossover;

I was hoping they were farther along in the process, I thought it would be episode 14 for Supergirl and 15 for The Flash, but it seems like it will be a little later? I'm more concerned about the writing/songs/performances than casting. I hope they can schedule extra time (for rehearsals, etc.) to make this project decent -- sometimes an extra week can make all the difference.

Still hoping that they can snag Andy Mientus (Pied Piper) for a part. Grant, Jesse, and Carlos I think are guaranteed to have their own numbers; Keiynan and Tom F. have some musical talent so they might get featured, too. It's the women who might get shortchanged here... typical! But I hope not.

  • Iris gets to cross over to another show,
  • Iris gets to have conversations with other characters not from Flash.
    • Iris and Kara get to talk about their similar careers.
  • I know they have several large casts to juggle, but more, or at least better interactions and/or team-ups between the characters. Not everyone has something in common, but at lot of them do, and the writers should take advantage of that.
  • Girls vs. Boys  ?
  • A little bit of downtime outside of whatever crisis is going on.
  • More interactions/conversation between the female cast in general.
  • Don't resolve any major story arcs of a show on an episode of another show.
  • They should mention the crossover events/characters outside of the crossover episodes.

Starting with things I still want from last year's list:

1. Kara and Iris as reporting buddies. Hopefully lamenting all the great things they can't report on.

2. Kara and Caitlin freezing stuff together.

3. Some kind of acknowledgment of Heatwave previously kidnapping Caitlin and Cisco. Ditto for Slade Wilson attempting to kill them, especially the part where they won, before they had their powers.

And for the new things on the list:

4. For crying out loud, can Team Arrow please remember that Cisco has powers and at least ask him to help solve problems when his skillset would be useful? Kidnapped Oliver, they didn't call him. Oliver and Felicity trapped inside the lair that he designed, they didn't call him. And I'm almost positive they won't have Cisco opening a breach to evacuate Lian Yu, no matter how much I wish it.

5. Crossover wedding. Or double wedding. But I want Westallen/Olicity to have guests that know secret identities and this seems like the easiest way to have them. And a good target for any time-traveling villains.

6. Following up on that, I basically want the The Hangover-inspired Smallville episode "Fortune" for their bachelor/bachelorette parties, with drunken superhero shenanigans. I realize that ripping off a ripoff is about as cliche as it gets, but I just love the idea of everyone interacting and having fun.

I want this SO BADLY! They just have to figure out a way to get Barry drunk....

-----

Thought of another one:

  • Similar to the Legion of Doom, a supervillianess team-up: LiveWire, Killer Frost, and Black Siren.

In the category of Never Going to Happen, But I Can Dream:
• The Flash/Powerless crossover, in which we meet Green Fury - same actress same costume. Maybe she can be from another city, or we met her when Cisco or Gypsy visit another earth.

I'd like Oliver and Iris to have a proper conversation. I don't think we've seen them talk since the first crossover and that was more of a joke than anything else. If they're going

Spoiler

to have a double wedding

it'd be nice to have at least one conversation there.

Especially since she's made no secret of the fact that she thinks he's hot -- much to Barry's annoyance!

Does one of Oliver's patented shoot an arrow at the sky and swing on nothing super extra jumps count?

This post made be realize I really want a scene of Oliver shooting an arrow at seemingly nothing and have people comment on it, only to cut to either a) Kara catching the arrow and allowing him to swing on it or b) Cisco's opened a breach in the sky, allowing the arrow to connect to something on the other side.

I think Joe West would also be a good candidate to cross over to Black Lightning. He has some things in common with the characters over there; his police and crimefighting experience, but also being a father to a headstrong daughter, and father to children with powers.
