I'm torn on this one---I agree that the majority of it is mediocre, but the scene where Dean holds StabbedSam is still easily among the most powerful and memorable of the whole series for me, so I haven't been able to vote against it...yet!

Good point, that was an amazing scene, and the first death! There are so many really enjoyable episodes in Season 2 though, the bar is set so high! It's going to SO tough to have to vote against some of my favourite episodes in the series later on.

All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 1 -- (I suppose this episode wasn't SO bad... I was just really bored by the special children arc. Couldn't bring myself to care about any single one of them).

 

I actually liked most of the characters there. I liked Andy. I liked Ava and was surprised when the truth came out about her. And I even liked Jake and the dynamic between him and Sam. In some ways - including the scene of Sam's death - I liked this part better than the second. Both brothers were involved in the plot - unlike the second part (for me) where Sam was mostly turned into a plot point for Dean to react to*, and then he didn't really have much of a role in the conclusion of it (he wasn't even in earshot of the action).

 

I liked what we learned about Sam and what Sam learned about himself in this episode: that he (Sam) could take a leadership role if he had to, but when push came to shove, he really missed Dean and the guidance that Dean provided, and Sam was able to admit that to himself and others with no reservations or regrets. And he had complete faith that Dean would find him. Jared's portrayal of Sam's utter relief on hearing Dean calling his name made that final scene all the more powerful for me. In some ways, it was Sam's downfall - in that he let it distract him - but it was still so very Sam and so very understandable. "Dean's here. Everything's going to be okay now."

 

So that's why I like that episode so much.

I must take a moment of silence for Everybody loves a clown, the lovely brother moments and the heartbreaking action of Dean destroying the car that he had worked so hard to rebuild.  I also loved the introduction of Jo and Ellen and Dean being captured so easily by a woman and then thinking Sam would come to the rescue only to be in the same situation....

A moment of silence for Playthings, who couldn't love Sam's dive for the save, the begging of Dean to save him and being a easy drunk.  The creepy Inn and the Ghost that wins...rewatched recently and it really had a great creepy feel all the way through.  Also I thought the grandmother trying to save the family wasn't that over easily to figure out as you think it's someone else, the butler did it comes to mind.  LOL.  Oh and who could forget the continuation of the boys being gay.

 

Simon Says, sorry just had to put you out of your misery.  You had some really great moments, nothing personal.  Poor Dean having to give up his baby just because the guy told him to do it.  So anyone else that wants to join me in the sorrow of this show moving on...know I understand your pain.  :)

I was rather indifferent to Playthings, but that was a nice send-off 7kstar! I'll just add to your Simon Says with: you were smart and fun and I loved your Barbarian Queen van, but alas you were just not as great as some others on the list. I will morn your passing though.

"Simon Says" did have some great moments. Many of the one-episode character actors were very good. The opening scene had me very intrigued. That scene at the dam with the evil twin brother, Weber, and Andy's potential girlfriend, Tracy, was one of the creepier moments of the season with her almost heartbreaking answer of "I think so?" to Weber's creepy "You can fly can't you?"

Okay before I rewatched Hunted, I remembered it being stronger than it was.  I loved poor Dean tied up and every emotion that crosses his face when he really believes Sam has been and killed and the ending.  But the Ava part dragged it down for me.  I think because of just too much talking, so putting it out of it's misery so it can go to a better place in this world.  I liked Ava's as a character but it just isn't one I will fight to keep and if I have to vote one down, well I like helping out my fellow fans.  Dittydotdot just honoring your request.

Gonna futilely fight for AHBL, pt 1 a little more for all of the reasons I mentioned above. I liked "Bloodlust," but it got a little tainted for me once they brought Lenore back to have her succumb to her monsterness and then be unceremoniously ganked by Castiel to "hurry things along," so I remember AHBL, pt 1 more fondly.

I liked Ava's as a character but it just isn't one I will fight to keep and if I have to vote one down, well I like helping out my fellow fans.  Dittydotdot just honoring your request.

Wow, a lot of progress while I was incommunicado

 

Some of those that have moved on have some scenes I really enjoy... so I'll just provide a few fond memories as my eulogies this time:

No Exit - I had to look up what it meant to 'clean the pipes' the first time I watched this (doh! I can't believe he SAID THAT)

Heart - Tearjerker and I liked Madison but later episodes make me really mad she died

Croatoan - REALLY?  I loved this one.  It's very big on the creepy factor and we have a cool car stunt.

CSPWDT - Single Perfect Tear sitting on the Impala, and Jensen's voice goes "southern" when he's emotional! Slide into the grave -- I love when we can see J2 do there own stunts.

ELAC - Except Sam. Sitting on the tiny clown chair! Impala smash.

Playthings, Simon Said. & Hunted  - meh, I could live with these shuffling off although "you're bossy" is always funny IMO and I really like Ava

I forgot to give tribute to "Hunted." Even though it was mostly talking, I loved that opening montage. I loved the use of "White Rabbit" and the building tension as Scott describes to the psychiatrist what his problem is and the doctor is reluctant to shake his hand. Is it because he doesn't want to indulge what he thinks is Scott's imagination? Or is it that he's a little scared to shake his hand? And then as Scott later walks down the street to his ultimate death, I didn't quite see it coming and that small scene made me feel bad for Scott and what he was going through, and that he ultimately didn't get to see if he could redeem himself or overcome it. Loved that whole thing.
