I agree! I (vaguely) remember watching this last summer. I recently saw an ad for the upcoming season & got sort of excited, but feel like I need to go back & rewatch the entire series because it seems details have faded in my old people's brain.

I caught a glimpse of a defiance ad when ff'ing through the commercials on Jim henson's creature shop, but when I did a search on direct tv, it just said "coming soon" so guess it's not coming that soon lol. I wonder if they are still trying to do the video game tie ins. From what I understand there aren't many players these days.

I saw an ad again & actually paid attention at the end. Season 2 premiere is scheduled for June 19. Still a little ways off. I'm definitely going to have to rewatch because just reading the possible upcomings makes me realize the characters aren't firmly fixed in my mind at all.

Howdy, I have started my season 1 re-watch in prep for season 2. With the Being Human Finale last night this is my only "must see" in Syfy. I am glad to have a new place to discuss the show and looking forward to all of your insights (TWOP refugee here).

I agree that he has those things going for him. Also, he's got the whole oversexed swashbuckler thing happening.

But could he cheerfully smoke cigars all day while playing with model trains? Rafe could.

If yo go back to the original Chas Addams cartoons, the trains were merely a way of enjoying mass carnage.  So which would enjoy role-play in which thousands died just for the observer's pleasure?

Also, Gomez was always spiffily attired -- something I associate more with Datak than Rafe.

(This is fun!)

I caught Christie's "Mom or not, you done fucked with the wrong Mrs. Tarr" look when Pilar talked about her baby girl being all grown up.  Yeah, I think there's going to be an interesting time at camp next season.

Discussion of Tommy moved from the episode thread:

I thought Tommy was far less one-dimensional and boring than Nolan, especially when Irissa came back. He loved her and she was gone -- as far as he knew she was dead. Along comes this cute Law Keeper from the E-Rep and sparks fly. Then Irissa comes back and he's conflicted. It doesn't help that the bully of the show makes him his personal punching bag just because he feels like it. I didn't have much respect for how Nolan treated Tommy in the first season; I positively hated him in the second.

I hate to be cynical, but there is a good chance that the folks on this and other boards have done more thinking about the possible structure, ramifications and meaning of Omec family/sexual bonds than the writers.

Almost certainly!

I should preface all my comments by saying that I don't have children - my attitude might be very different if I did.

I know the ancient Egyptian nobility did and the fictional Targaryans do.

However father /daughter or any parent/ child pairing is harmful because of the power differential as is adult pedaphile/non familial child.

Any race advanced as the Omecs will certainly have some kind of genetic screening, and probably genetic repair as well.  With our current level of technology, we can determine if two people both have the Taylor-Sachs dene, and advise them not to have children.  As said, we don't have insane, hemophiliac cows and chickens, so I don't buy the genetics argument.

I believe that parents should teach their children, from an early age, that their body belongs to the child and no one else -- including the parent.  And that other people's bodies belong to those people.  If a child (or anyone of any age, actually) feels uncomfortable with any touching -- some people hate tickling, for example -- they should know that they can say so and the touching stops.  No questions asked.

The teaching should not be because Mommy or Daddy are perving on their kids, but with the goal of creating strong, responsible children -- a child who knows that "No means no" because they've seen it; they've experienced it.  But all of this presumes parents who want to love and nurture their children, which far too uncommon, alas.
