@MattMitovich: Stana Katic Ponders Her @Castle_ABC Future: 'For Me It's About Art Over Finance' http://t.co/2l0tSAybUr

But a steady pay cheque helps too and that's what Castle provides them with.

Sounds like she's waiting for various things to fall into place and of course this includes Nathan.

They're going to have to work together to get the best deal.

Stana Katic talks life, career, and all things Castle

I love listening to Stana interviews when she's given the chance to talk and share her art and love for her work. Great job, once again, by Larry.

If  I were running things:

I'd offer Nathan and Stana $200,000 per episode for an 8th and final season. 14 episode 8th season and I'd air it in January as a winter premiere.

I'd also stipulate in their contracts that there must be final season press .. joint interviews, photo shoots, and individual interviews. Give it a final season w good schedule, press, and story.

Thanks for the info. Well they need to get them out to do interviews. Though if it's only 2 minutes than keep that! Stan's interview w. Larry was longer than both of her appearances on GMA and The View combined! I like listening to her talk about her career and her passion. Let her! Yet we get 2 segments of Nathan talking about his moving scalp, his pets, vacations, and BBQs.

Well, equal or not, I guess Nathan is still seen as the "bigger draw", what with his cult sci-fi fans along with Castle and Dr. Horrible and even his soap days...  Maybe it isn't fair, but I get why more time and focus is on him.

Who is to say they aren't already talking about their options with each other? My read on both her TVLine and Sirius interviews is she's speaking similar language to what Nathan also has said recently (about going out on top and on a high note), which tells me there's a conversation at least beginning between them. Because they'd both be silly to think that either of them can stay or leave the show without it affecting the other (& the show in general). This fandom wants to believe that they never talk to each other because we don't see it on TV or on Twitter, but I seriously doubt that's the case and her interviews released today kinda suggest that to me. Just my opinion as always.

I wasn't meaning to imply they were refusing to talk to each other be it about future contracts or other matters, we're already near Christmas and decisions need to be made by everyone involved.  I agree that her interview sounds the same as the one Nathan gave a while back when he was asked the same question.  Obviously one can't stay and the other go so they have to figure out what kind of deal they're both going to be happy with, they may have different goals and requirements which might make things more protracted.

Whatever happens, I hope when the time comes and they reach the final season they announce it good time and everyone can be prepared and they can go out on a high note which is what the actors (and fans) want.

Somehow after every Stana interview I see comments about how there should be fewer Nathan interviews. Is this an either or deal? I'm sure if Stana went to night talk shows she would have to tell funny stories too, not talk about her acting goals or career intricacies.

I don't think any of these talk shows, day or night, are designed to discuss one's life goals. It's about promotion, inane chitchat, and a few lame stories and jokes along the way.

Kinda seems to me like both Stana and Nathan are open to renewing for another season, but that they're really not the ones to make that call at the moment. Stana makes it sound like it's in ABC's hands (which ... it kinda is) if they want another season, but provided ABC is in and Marlowe has a plan for the character (that moves beyond "they're married now, so there's no wt/wt ... now it's just procedural"), she'd be down for more.

At this point it's up to ABC, but even in the high 1s Castle is still in the top half of ABC's scripted dramas. So unless they've got the utmost faith in the pilots for next season (doubtful, based on years past), it's unlikely that ABC won't give them one more season.

And who in recent memory has walked away from a contract? Steve Carell, I guess, but he had a pretty successful movie career to bank on. Cote de Pablo, but I'm not sure why, except to say NCIS could go on (and has) without her. I'm fairly certain ABC will be in, so it's going to come down to Nathan and Stana ... and I"m not convinced either one of them will walk at this point.

The recent one that come to mind but it in terms of walking away from contracts after they've finished so not reup was Sandra Oh for Grey's. Anytime I think of contracts I always think back to Julianna when she didn't reup on ER. Knew the time was right even though she was a main character, an example where you can throw a truckload of money at someone but they in the end said no thanks.

But in those situations they weren't the main character of the show so their leaving didn't make or break the show in the end.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Sandra Oh. Good point.

I think this is the key. Fact is, there's no Castle without Nathan or Stana. They know that.

And honestly, the way they talk about their crew and fellow cast, I still think it would take a much better offer for them to walk away. Or for either of them to be so fed up or burnt out that they just can't take it anymore, and I've never gotten that impression. They know that their decision has greater repercussions than just themselves. Whether or not that's a good reason to make a decision on to stay or not is up for debate, but I'd be really, really surprised if it didn't factor into their decisions at least a little.

Was there as much money thrown at Clooney to stay when his contract was up as Julianna? Because at the time, some thought he was crazy to give up ER for a movie career (which wasn't that successful for awhile after he left the show).

What's funny to me is if Stana says it's not about the money, then, aside from story, what might entice her to stay longer? More time off like we sense Nathan likes (Julianna M. is said to have asked for this on TGW and I think Ellen P. and Patrick D. have it too on Grey's)? If that ended up being a dealbreaker, then we'd still have the show on TV, but might have more Castle and/or Beckett-light eps, which I sense the fandom doesn't like as much. But it would be on the air. So what would the fandom ultimately want more? Just throwing spec out there... ;)

My first thought was ... 20 in Los Angeles? It never gets that cold in LA. Is it really 20 in LA right now? I'm surprised I haven't heard on the news how everyone in LA is literally freezing.

And then I realized you probably meant 20 degrees Celsius, which is like 70 degrees, and it all makes much, much more sense.

Hee, i thought the same thing.  But people in LA are wimps about weather (no offense). I was there in May and it was maybe 72 degrees, so I went to the beach.  And all these people were there with winter hats on.  But Stana and Nathan didn't grow up there, so maybe they can handle it .

I don't know if the ABC promo is more heavily Castle/Beckett. I'm afraid that little bit is all that'll be in the episode.

I'm afraid that next week will be a disappointment, going back to the seriousness after the two lighter, fluffy episodes. I know I tend to like the fluffier ones in general (but there have been some better serious ones. I like Cops and Robber a lot. And The Wild Rover). So we'll see how it goes, but it's definitely going to be a change in direction.

Link to comment

Yeah I think filler too, not that this means it's necessarily a bad thing, sometimes filler can be pretty entertaining stuff but I'm going to keep my expectations low (again) to avoid disappointment.

The Wild Rover was one of the best serious episodes in my opinion. Not only did it allow us to see a harder side of Ryan, but it didn't drag on and on and on.

OT, but, what's with the Irish Mafia ? Does it exist? Or is it just a way not to be too ethnic? They use it a lot.

Mega Buzz: The Mentalist's Coupling, Parks and Rec's New Reality and a Homeland Standoff

What can you tell me about Castle's midseason finale? Will it deal with Castle's disappearance at all? — Caleb
Executive producer David Amann suggests that the writers won't be picking up that mystery again until probably February, during this season's big two-parter episode. But the midseason finale should pack plenty of punch. Because it serves as this season's Christmas episode, it has a bit of a lighter touch...right up until the end. "We're looking at a bit of a game-changer for Castle at the end of the episode," Amann teases, although he promises that Castle and Beckett aren't getting a quickie divorce. "The events of the episode will cause a shift...in Castle's life in a fairly significant way." Bah humbug! (Also, guesses?)

This is a rehash of what was said before so nothing new, a "game changer" on Castle? I don't believe that it will be at all, these writers despite some of the dramatic sounding words they like to drop into interviews are not wanting to change anything much from what I've seen.

My guess? Something involving Martha or Alexis. May be their living arrangements finally get discussed since it has to involve Castle and if we're not talking mythology then that's all I can think of unless it's involving his writing career now that would be a shocker if they touched on that!

Link to comment

My guess is that either 3xk is back or something happens that threatens Castle from being at the precinct for a few episodes. At first I thought they might have Gates retire/die/transfer, giving Kate the decision of whether to be captain, but that's too close to what they already did it DC.

What really bugs me about the "change the shape of the show" stuff is that it's all too reminiscent about what I disliked so intensely about 623 -- an episode promoted as light but taking a schizoid turn at the very end for the sake of show-changing direction. I would have hoped that they would have learned a lesson from the bad reactions, but it appears that if they did learn a lesson, it was the wrong one.

Thanks for the up-date.

24 Nov: 7.08 ~ Kill Switch - Amann/Jeannot Szwarc
01 Dec:  7.09 ~ Last Action Hero (previously Role of A Lifetime) - Roum/Holahan
08 Dec:  7.10 ~ Bad Santa (previously Have Yourself a Mobster Little Christmas) - Creaseys/Roe
Christmas break
05 Jan(?)7.11 ~ Woogie Woogie (?) - Hanning/Milan Cheylov
7.12 ~ TBA - Frost/Hanelle Culpepper
7.13 ~ TBA - Winter/?
7.14/7.15 ~ two parter

7.12 according to TV Line "will make like Jane the Virgin and revolve around the cast of the telenovela Santos Desperaodos, begging the question: Has Kamar de los Reyes already guest-starred?"

Sounds like 3XK is going to make an appearance too in one of these episodes after the Christmas break.

And my curiosity about when newbie writer Amanda Johns pens her first episode continues... ;)

As a newbie on the team I can see them giving her a filler episode to see how things go, may be after February sweeps?

I also just realized we haven't gotten promo pics for this Monday's episode yet. Though I imagine most are of Espo and Ryan (since Espo appears to be the focus), but you'd think we'd have something by now, either promo pics or a sneak. Weird, especially since we're still in sweeps.

verdana, that's decent speculation about Johns. I seem to remember other newbies writing their first episode sooner than the 15th ep of a season, but they might have had more experience than her. I don't recall her bio being terribly extensive when I looked her up after she joined the writers this season.

I have just said the same thing in the other thread. Great minds! When is 7x09 airing though, as they usually release episode stills 2 weeks before the episode airs.

That link was playing up for me so here's a youtube version if needed, although I think this is of another sneak peek since it doesn't match up the description in that article.

You still remind me a little of Hooch... like the playful push she gives him.

Isn't it a little strange that ABC have not released any episode stills for 7x08 yet? Usually they release them 2 weeks before said episode and we have not had anything unless I have missed something?

They have now check out the media thread, may be they realise a lot of fans aren't too bothered about an episode concentrating on Esposito and another one that screams filler before the Christmas "cliffhanger" episode.

It seems like they always take all their stills on the same day/same location, so you can't really tell what an episode is going to be like based on the pictures.

My guess from them is that that woman is not a real cop though.  Not sure why I think that.

Second sneak peek here:

I'm hoping this will be a little bit of Under Fire, an episode I really liked for Castle and Beckett,  and a little bit of Wild Rover, even though I like Ryan much more than I do Esposito.

I do understand that Stana and especially Nathan would need a bit of a break after two episodea heavy on them.

I hope we get to see some supportive moments between Beckett and Lanie over what's happened to Esposito.  If they can't manage it this episode then it'll probably never happen.  I'd like to see visible signs of their friendship rather than hear about it in interviews. Conversations between them about things other than lividity were almost non-existent last season aside from a few very brief moments.

Link to comment

Nice to see a bit of newlywed banter before they dive into high stakes (yawn) COTW.  I tend to like locked room scenarios so maybe I'll like the episode more than I expect even with the Espo focus, but it does feel like a rehash of C&R and Still.  And some of the tired dialogue in that sneak peek at the precinct was making me cringe already.

No idea about the cliffhanger.  Last time they threw in a left turn was FBFW so count me as not overly enthused about cliffhangers/game changers/mythology.

Because it happens all too often in these sorts of setups?  There's always someone who turns out to not be who they are presented to be. ;)

I hope to see some good Beckett/Lanie, but the line about Espo having been in worst scrapes than this was already making me groan.  That kind of dialogue didn't work for me episodes like Under Fire and it didn't work for me here.

Today in Edmonton AB: 1 Celcius (Edmonton gets 184 frost free days a year)

Today in Victoria BC (where I now live)  9 Celsius and I’m wearing a poncho, no coat.

Am I the only one here who likes Esposito and his cynical attitude to Castle?

Link to comment

I like Espo, in part because he is snarky and suspicious.

But then so am I.

I also can understand Jon Huertas' imagined backstory with a short relationship of some sort between Espo and Beckett. it kinda works. He's older and more experienced (military + police+ 'the streets"). Her relationships we have seen have run to other cops (Demming, Sorenson, maybe the older mentor ) as much as non-cops (Rogan, Dr. Josh).
