Yeah if you check that picture of that last link I posted you can see it, it's obviously not her engagement ring but another one. I don't get that, unless this is the AU version of him putting a ring on and then they decide to get married for real?

I don't think the show could survive another fake out, like promoting a wedding episode for it to only be an AU dream wedding.  So, yeah, maybe we get two.  They'll really need to explain going from the Maldives to a dude ranch for the honeymoon though.

Is it weird that I'm disappointed AU Beckett doesn't have shorter/different hair?

Thanks for that - I'm at work so couldn't check the images out - but just wanted to make sure I wasn't losing it when I quickly looked during my break.

Oh no I quite agree they cannot go there and I'm sure they are fully aware of that, they have to get married for real no matter what story they do in the AU version.

Yeah pity about the hair.

In that clip, seems that Castle may be knows who Beckett is but she doesn't recognize him?

Looks as if Castle gets sucked into that alternate world and is the only one knowing about his real life. They better not have him stuck there for episodes with that wedding happening.

Episodes no since the Western is the next ep and we know from the leaked call sheet that's in the real world. But I'd speculate that the AU will go for a few days before he's zapped back out of it.

When I saw TV Line originally put the idea out about this episode, my mind immediately went to The Matrix in terms of going in and out of an AU. Not sure if it'll go that way though. Since my antennae has been off the past six weeks.

So in this AU promo, kinda sad that Beckett never read any of Castle's books and isn't a fan. If they do get married in the precinct, I still think Juliana's visit to the set was a cover so that Jenny can be there.

Agree. Since that would have been the day they filmed the wedding, etc.

I'm guessing that since she hasn't read his books in the AU world there won't be any pre-conceived notions that she would have had in the real life  - so whether that perception will change when the two paths do collide in the AU world I have no idea. But that is all pure spec by me more than anything else.

That's the one @RobKyker tweeted about getting cleaned. https://twitter.com/RobKyker/status/522201246002712576?s=09

He had it cleaned at the beginning of August which wasn't even when they were filming the wedding (that was done the first week in September - going by the 706 filming dates).

I figure like cappuccino he gets sucked into the AU world and the most predictable way to go is that he realises over the course of the episode what his life would be like without Kate by his side and at the end he comes back out of it and they get married at the end. But really anything could happen with this episode, promos can be misleading as we know.

I feel like this is most likely. What I want to know is how he ends up in this alternate timeline.

Well that's a given - what I meant above was in terms of how he gets into the AU world and how he'll exit it, etc.

There's this weird cut they do where you have Castle and Beckett talking about getting past something (kind of angsty) and then cut to them seemingly in the same position with him saying "marry me, right now." I wonder if those are actually from two different parts of the episode, cause otherwise it doesn't really make sense.

Link to comment

I wonder if those are actually from two different parts of the episode, cause otherwise it doesn't really make sense.

Yeah, I think they have to be.

I figure Castle tells AU-Beckett that he's from a different timeline - or at least there has to be a reality where they know each other - and tries to bridge the gap that way, especially if it gets to the point where he thinks this new AU is now his reality, which leads to the "how do we get past this" conversation.

But when he does get back to his reality he realizes that he wants to marry Beckett now because he can't imagine being without her, especially because he thought that that might be a very real possibility if he thought he was stuck in his AU forever), which is the "marry me, right now" conversation.

All of this hinges on the idea that they can conceivably set up a scenario where Castle (semi)realistically ends up/gets out of this AU, of course. But who am I kidding? I'm going to like it anyway, provided it ends in a real wedding.

And also, a dude ranch honeymoon? Not my idea of a great honeymoon, but I'll be damned if I said I wasn't looking forward to seeing Castle and Beckett at a dude ranch. Just from the promo, I'm pretty sure it's going to be hilarious.

I don't think many fans will care how it happens as long as they see Beckett and Castle slipping wedding rings on their fingers by closing credits.

And Castle in a cowboy outfit? Bring it on.

I know he won't be riding a horse for safety reasons (or Stana for that matter) but I want to see him dressed up playing cowboy. I bet Nathan had a ball that episode.

A friend just gave me the heads up that Nathan's going to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday. So looks like ABC's sending at least Nathan out to do some promotion for the episode.

I wonder if "It's complicated" from the promo means we might be getting some s4 not amused Gates cause it kinda looks like he's probably trying to explain to her how he knows Beckett or possibly he could be explaining to the boys. I'm looking forward everyone's reaction to him.

Oh it looks like Beckett isn't wearing a wedding ring in the western shootout scene while Castle is. Case of the disappearing prop again?

Well Nathan got to ride and shoot a horse over 10 yrs ago, so it would be funny if he convinced someone that can he ride again since it's the same set that Firefly used.

I definitely saw a glimpse of silver when Castle carries Beckett across the threshold but I don't see anything here. Maybe the scene is just too dark and the band is so thin cause Castle wedding band is easy to spot.

Hope they keep the wedding rings on and they stay on after they're married, none of this here one minute gone the next. It's not difficult to sort out so do it it right.

Kind if disappointed that by the looks of things we're not going to to see how they envisaged Castle's life panning out if he hadn't met Beckett when he did, I was looking forward to seeing how MilMar (this may be Terri's episode but he still calls the shots ultimately) would have handled that.

Don't they have to go to the ranch because some evidence is leading them there or the victim has been killed there ? So my guess is that they just pretend to be on their honeymoon to blend in.

Oops gotcha.

Yeah they go there since the evidence leads them there and they're supposed to be heading for their honeymoon when it happens (well that's the gist I got from TV Line info and the leaked call sheet).

If they really want to do the AU thing, should Gates even be there? If Beckett never met Castle she wouldn't have reopened her mom's case, and Montgomery would probably still be alive.  Not that Castle's to blame, but reopening that case made a huge difference on a lot of people.  It seems boring to just have Gates there by some other explanation.

Montgomery might still be dead. Castle reopened Beckett's case originally, but even if he hadn't it might have been reopened when Jack Coonan was killed (Lanie is the one that noticed that the stab wounds were the same as in 3 or 4 other murders). Or if that hadn't happened, Raglan presumably would have still gotten cancer and sought Beckett out to come clean. Both scenarios were independent of Castle and could have reopened Beckett's mom's case ... ehich would have caused Bracken to want to tie up loose ends, which includes Montgomery.

It's fairly plausible Gates would still be Captain.

A MURDER INVESTIGATION LAUNCHES CASTLE INTO AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE WHERE HE AND BECKETT HAVE NEVER MET, WHICH INSPIRES THEM TO TAKE A TRIP TO THE ALTAR, ON ABC’S “CASTLE”

"The Time of Our Lives" -- A murder investigation launches Castle into what seems to be an alternate universe where he's never met Kate Beckett.  Castle has to convince Beckett, Esposito and Ryan -- now complete strangers -- to let him participate in their investigation so he can find his way back to his own world.  This inspires Castle & Beckett to finally take a trip to the altar, on “Castle,” MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

“Castle” stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers, Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle, Penny Johnson Jerald as NYPD Captain Victoria Gates, Tamala Jones as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, and Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan.

Guest Cast: Julian Scott Urena as Renzo Conrad, David Francis Harris as Mathias Gensler, Jeffrey Nordling as Marcus Lark, Scott Paulin as Jim Beckett.

“The Time of Our Lives” was written by Terri Edda Miller and directed by Paul Holahan.

I guess it really is happening this time! :D   Episode description doesn't say that the altar's going to burst into flames (and Jim's there!) so hopefully it's all good. ;)

Thankful that Castle's AU doesn't seem to involve him having forgotten to divorce Meredith or any more drunken fiascos. ;)

The AU premise is intriguing but I hope it doesn't fall short of its potential like TM did with Cuffed.  Caskett should be front and centre in a wedding episode with the relationship as a central focus, so hopefully it'll be delved into in a meaningful, non-superficial way.

I wonder if they'll promote the wedding doubly hard this time considering they know they lost a lot of goodwill with fans the last time around...  wedding photoshoot, anyone?

Still not really feeling a precinct wedding, to be honest, if that's where it happens.  It's just they spend so much time there already (and it's so damn dark there!), it's their workplace and I'd rather the most personal, romantic day of their lives takes place elsewhere.

I would go with speculation thread if you want to speculate but since it's a press release I figure it goes in the media thread.

I do like AU premises, when done well.  This is actually reminding me of a fanfic I read recently about an AU where Castle lands in a universe where Johanna Beckett's alive and Beckett is happily together with Josh (ugh!), and it's about letting the one you love go (sob!).  At least they can't be going that angsty in a wedding episode!  Looking forward to seeing how Castle woos and wins Beckett over in a world where they have no history together (not so interested in how he wins Ryan and Esposito over!).  I miss seeing Castle chase Beckett.  I think Beckett would be a tough nut to crack in any universe, but especially one where she also lost her mother and Castle hadn't helped lighten her up.  I don't think she'd be an easy believer in magic or in Castle telling her that they're fated to be together or something like that so Castle really has his work cut out for him!  I'm also sad that Beckett doesn't seem to have read Castle's books.  And it would be so cool if Beckett had her S1 hair here again!

Fingers crossed for a second proposal but it's probably nothing more than the "Marry me, now", in the promo.  I would really love to hear some heartfelt words worthy of their relationship to date from both Castle and Beckett.  Something meaningful to them and not generic.

Still hoping the wedding's not in the precinct like I said in the media thread.  Because they are in there so much already, and it's just not a special wedding venue to me despite their relationship having grown from their workplace partnership.  Not feeling the loft either.  Guess I'm still hankering for an outdoor venue like the Hamptons, which will never be!  Wherever it is, please let it be well lit and let them be well dressed. ;)  And sufficient screentime for us to actually enjoy the event rather thank blink and miss.  It can all be done in any number of ways but it needs to come across as being romantic and about them

Hope we'll see more of sexy cowboy Castle than bumbling, tripping over his own 2 feet Castle in the western episode, but the promo hints at the latter, alas.  Looks like Beckett will be the ballsy one as usual and shooting at a snake or something at Castle's feet while he screams like a girl. ;)  Just to be clear, I like that Beckett's an alpha but it would be nice to see Castle be an alpha too, once in a while. ;)  On the bright side, looks like Beckett's unbuttoned to show her bra and Castle's unbuttoning his waistcoat.  But, I fear this is going to be another case of sexytimes interrupted. ;)  Let's hope we actually get to see some romance and bedroom action considering it's their honeymoon and not just fade to black.  I must say I never thought I'd see Castle carrying Beckett over the threshold with both dressed in cowboy duds heh.

Why wouldn't Nathan be riding? He's from Alberta and pals around with William Shatner, who raises horses. Riding and swordfighting are among his skills.

Yes! Bring back Season One hair for Stana! If Kelly Cuoco can cut her hair, why not have a cop with real cop hair?

I doubt these two would want to spend their time being forced to spend their honeymoon at a ranch, hopefully after the case is done they get to take a trip to a slightly more exotic location. Although of course we will never get to see that but we may hear about it if we're lucky.

I sense the new proposal is just what we saw in the promo and that's your lot.  I do wonder if the precinct is going to be the preferred option as a quickie venue but I could think of better places than work to get married.

madmaverick. I fear bumbling Cowboy!Castle too although TPW is one of my favourite writers so I'm hoping he doesn't let me down but it seems to come from the top so may be they have little choice in the matter.

I have no issues with Kate being portrayed as an alpha woman but I do have problems when they make the guy she's with look weak and ineffectual and not even in her league to amp up her alpha status even further. It really bugs when they do this on TV shows - make the men look like a bunch of clowns and often incompetent in comparison to the women who puts up with them - and it doesn't make either party look remotely attractive and I find it insulting for everyone.

Tbh, I like the longer hair better. But at the end of the day, it's up to the actor and/or actress whether they want their hair cut.

I'll talk the flippy end of S1 hair or the shoulder length hair of the end of S2, if anything. I don't mind where it's at now, though. (I was not a an of the pageboy of the pilot.)

Well ... Espo did for awhile, with his cropped buzz. Or still does, I guess, even if it's not so buzzed anymore. It's harder with the guys though - in general, short is professional, which they all have. It's not like anyone is rocking a ponytail or something. I wouldn't say Ryan, Espo, or Castle look unprofessional.

I thought Raglan had said he was reached out because what happened with Coonan made him feel guilty? But, you're right that he might have done it anyway.

He prefaces his story with the fact he has cancer and he wants to absolve himself of his guilt over his past actions, and then he mentions that he knows she was the one to kill Coonan. I figured that he was coming to her not because she killed Coonan, but because when that news broke he knew she was still actively investigating both her mom's case and following up on anything that could potentially tie back to him and he had a lead she could use. Also presumably he knew the details of Beckett's mom's murder and that Beckett was a cop under Montgomery, so it's not like he he had to work hard to find Beckett.

But presumably Lanie still would have noticed the knife wounds on Jack Coonan and linked his killer with Beckett's mother's killer. I supposed there would've been no reason for Beckett to kill Dick Coonan in the precinct (she wouldn't have had the money to front for a chance to get her mom's killer/she wouldn't have figured out that it was actually Dick Coonan/he wouldn't have taken Castle hostage and forced her to make a decision). But I think it all still makes sense if Raglan's cancer was the catalyst for him to come forward (he certainly makes it sound like it is, considering he mentions he "just" got the news from his doctor and the hostage standoff with Coonan was "about a year ago") and Dick Coonan's death was just a convenient segue to do so.

But I agree, I don't think they'll spend much time on it. For all we know, in this AU Montgomery is still alive but had decided to retire (like he was planning before he was killed) and Gates came in and took over. They could play it either way. (But I kinda like the idea Montgomery still ends up dead (sorry Roy!) because it makes the whole Johanna Beckett arc much less dependent on Castle himself and more just fated to happen anyway.)

I got the feeling it's AU as in Beckett's life is exactly the same...but without Castle.

That would be kind of disappointing though, on a couple levels.  Because it is nice to think that Castle and Beckett had an impact on each others' lives (in a good way). If they were going to end up exactly the same without meeting, what's the point?  It's not very romantic. It also would make it kind of a boring episode.  Wasn't the spoiler that it would show what their lives would be like if they never met?  Just seeing everything the same but with Beckett not knowing Castle doesn't show anything new.  I also don't think that would give them the push to get married.

I think it would have been more interesting if it wasn't Castle waking up in an AU, but I will reserve judgement until I see the episode (in two weeks.....sigh).

Oh, I don't think it will be all that complicated either.  And like I said, I think they will barely touch on her mom's murder.  There's no time, and they seemed happy to close out that storyline last season. It would be cool if they did though.

mad maverick.I figure its the media thread because press releases, promos and sneak peeks are not considered spoilers so if you're speculating on them then it should be okay here.

I wonder if they'll promote the wedding doubly hard this time considering they know they lost a lot of goodwill with fans the last time around...  wedding photoshoot, anyone?

I doubt we will get a photoshoot due to time constraints, normally doing things like this happens before filming commences because they're all on such an insanely tight schedule once they get started but I hope I'm proved wrong, the fans do deserve something after what happened.

That's my fear that it will turn out like Cuffed which I thought had so much potential but was one long series of massive missed opportunities to explore Castle and Beckett's relationship.  But they managed to do a great job of avoided Caskett completely which was saying something given they were cuffed together!

I hope they don't try to pack too much into this episode after reading that press release, they often try and get far too ambitious and frankly they don't have the writing chops to pull it off and every time they try it usually ends up as one big hot mess.  The more straightforward it is the better although that does limit their scope on the AU side to really explore as much as I would have liked when this premise was first mentioned. However, I prefer to get a decent wedding out of this and not something squeezed in around all the AU business that makes it seem like an afterthought.

I can see a massive eye roll from Beckett if Castle suggests going to a cowboy ranch for their honeymoon.  As big as when he said they should be married in space. Unless she has some secret obsession that we don't know about.  Gosh, are they going to try out accents in the episode?  Seems like something Castle would do!

I think they are going to fly off to some tropical island we'll never see and may never even hear of ever again (boo!) for their real honeymoon at the end of the episode.  But they've kind of ruined tropical island references for me what with Castle supposedly having a big fear of tsunamis and Beckett not believing him and the whole mythology thing.

But I am hoping that we find out AU Kate actually does read Castle's books but was pretending not to in the promo scene to not seem to fan-girly at work.

One can only hope that the secret fangirl exists in any universe.   She might not find him to be such a jackass from the beginning in the AU because he won't be acting like one.  Doesn't mean she'd fall for him quickly though.

Noticed that Beckett's wearing a black turtleneck.  Is that code for closed off and not particularly happy? ;)

Oh, that's so sad.  I hate angsty fanfics.

The angsty ones with the sad, realistic endings are the worst in terms of ripping your heart out.  There are a few that touch on Castle and Beckett parting ways forever due to miscommunication, and it's all too real.

I fear this is going to be another case of sexytimes interrupted

That should be the show's tagline.

For some reason, I know have that darn tune from Castle's webmercial in my head except instead of "spine tingling, bone chilling adventure...Raging Heat", it's "spine tingling, sexy times... INTERRUPTED" on endless repeat.  Someone talented should make a vid of all their interrupted moments in that webmercial style and see if Castle writers get the joke. ;)
