newsjunkie December 21, 2024 Share December 21, 2024 (edited) https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/blue-bloods-tom-selleck-donnie-wahlberg-canceled-1236234226/ "“It feels like, I read a movie script, I’m negotiating to do a deal for the movie, and I’m walking to my agent’s office, and I keep looking back over my shoulder, hoping someone from ‘Blue Bloods’ is chasing me down the street saying, ‘Wait, we’re going to do one more season,’” he says. “A lot of times in television, 14 years in, people are running for the exit. We’re all trying to move forward now onto what’s next, but I think every one of us has that feeling of just turning back, hoping someone’s there to say, ‘Don’t sign that contract. Wait a minute!’”..... Plus, would a spinoff really work, focusing on one or two characters and not the entire family — the heart of what “Blue Bloods” is about? “It’s going to be a very delicate dance to keep that integrity. Where’s the family going to be? They can’t be in New York. I would probably drive to New York from Ohio, if I was Danny, to go to every dinner and back,” Wahlberg says of his character. “Until we know that there’s absolutely no way this show can be resurrected somehow, I think we’re all walking forward… but taking a peek back.” Edited December 21, 2024 by newsjunkie Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/17841-blue-bloods-in-the-media/page/5/#findComment-8538202
Sake614 December 22, 2024 Share December 22, 2024 Selleck tried to convince the network to renew and CBS said no. I have a hard time believing they have any interest in a spin-off. I certainly have no appetite for it. This show should have ended a good 7 years before it did. As much as I like the cast, IMO the show grew more stale every year. It had a good run, now it’s time for everyone to move forward. The younger cast can focus on school and what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Selleck can retire or maybe do another Jesse Stone movie. Donnie and Bridget should be able to find lead or at least supporting roles elsewhere and the character actors can continue along that path. I think there have been enough comments by Donnie Wahlberg and in a more limited way from some of the CBS executives to suggest there have been initial substantive discussions about a possible spin-off probably primarily focused on his character, possibly along with Baez, and occasional appearances by other Reagans (if there is no shock revival), probably along the lines of the "alternate ending" scenario he suggested in Entertainment Weekly. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/17841-blue-bloods-in-the-media/page/5/#findComment-8538615

DanaK Tuesday at 08:27 PM Share Tuesday at 08:27 PM CBS orders straight to series spinoff "Boston Blue" with Donnie Wahlberg playing Danny Reagan in Boston. I would have thought the character was ready to retire https://www.givememyremote.com/remote/2025/02/18/cbs-orders-blue-bloods-universe-expansion-with-new-drama-boston-blue/ 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/17841-blue-bloods-in-the-media/page/5/#findComment-8584614

Without the big family dinner scene in every episode, is it really Blue Bloods? Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/17841-blue-bloods-in-the-media/page/5/#findComment-8585366

I think if you gave me a dozen crazy spin-off ideas (flashback, Baker PI, President Erin Reagan, Joe Hill, whatever whatever), Danny goes to a new city would be low among the ones most interesting to me. Yes, he should be retiring soon, and while I'm sure they'll have a perfectly reasonable explanation, Danny is such a 'this is MY town' guy... 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/17841-blue-bloods-in-the-media/page/5/#findComment-8587247

The series was originally pitched as more of an original series about an LAPD officer moving to Boston, but because its 2025 and very little gets made that isn't tied to an existing franchise/IP, CBS decided to turn this into the Blue Bloods spin-off by changing the lead character (making it Danny Reagan instead of a new original character and moving from New York to Boston) 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/17841-blue-bloods-in-the-media/page/5/#findComment-8587469
newsjunkie 2 hours ago Share 2 hours ago Deadline updated their article after the fact with the following little detail: The original pitch was called "Jamaica Plain" after the Boston neighborhood and this timeline detail: "By early December, Jamaica Plain, named after a Boston neighborhood, was heating up for a pickup with Wahlberg in talks to join." https://deadline.com/2025/02/blue-bloods-series-boston-blue-donnie-wahlberg-danny-reagan-1236293667/ 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/17841-blue-bloods-in-the-media/page/5/#findComment-8587919
