S07.E06: She's Got This Mantality

That pool🤢

Loved Tammy’s expression of joy on the zip line! Can’t wait to see her before and after sugery. She lost so much weight, it blows my mind.

Lol @ Chris saying, “we’re fat people-we stay on the ground!” He was kind of a jerk for pushing Misty tho.

Amy wants to go to all 50 states plus Hawaii🤣

I'm so happy for Tammy!    And I like how she explained why she didn't want to do the plunge.   I think well meaning people can try to push others to face their fears or step outside their comfort zone, but they do not always understand the reason for the hesitations or refusals to do something.    I'm just saying there is an art to knowing when to nudge and when to back off.

Tammy made me laugh when she could not even attempt to go along with her doc's little joke.   She could not wipe that smile off her face.

Amy and  her fiance can plan whatever wedding they want but they can't be mad when people don't want to go because it makes them  uneasy.  This is not just about them not liking the venue. This goes deeper.  I don't know anything about this place they chose but just because Amy thinks it's cool and all in fun doesn't mean others don't take it more seriously.

So is Amy going to ask for another surgery? I think just getting her diet on track would help a lot.

And I'm glad to know that Amy's kids are geniuses.  Because I am not a genius, I had to looked up how to pluralize genius.  I also checked to make sure pluralize is a word and I am using it correctly.

Why in the world wouldn’t a surgeon at least inquire if a person who has diabetes has tried medication for high blood sugar and obesity before approving for surgery?  That’s outrageous, imo.   At least discuss it!  For some people it works just as well as bariatric surgery.

I'm sure there's a lot that's recreated for filming, and virtually nothing that's not dramatic is included in the show.

About things like the pool being shown, you can tell when the camera crew dislike someone, when they show the scenes like that, or the filthy conditions that Amy's children live in.

I can't imagine Amy watching the kids close enough to keep them safe by a pool, either.

This times a million @auntjess. We have a pool, it is fenced with a locked gate. Plus we have chimes on the door to pool and a child resistance lock on door, plus a bolt on top of door. Amy has busy young children, limited vision and is lazy AF. Recipe for tragedy.

I can't put my finger on exactly why, but I am SO skeeved out by Brian.  Is it because he's so clingy and touchy and needy?  Or maybe because he gives off some meth-head vibes?  And how does he afford that half decent house?  There doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it that a good bottle of bleach and some fungicide wouldn't cure.

Me too!  There is something so off about him.    He does not seem genuine at all.   Amy can do what she wants but it is hard to think of those kids living there with him.

I agree about the pool too.   Amy talks about having family get togethers, but there is no mention of how badly the pool needs cleaned up and I'm sure there are plenty of issues with it.  Obviously  it is not maintained.   I think Tammy said they should just fill it in.   I agree.    I would not trust them to put up a child proof fence.  Well even if they don't fill it in, it needs to be drained.  Still dangerous though. I just don't trust them to keep an eye on 2 very active little boys.

The inside of the house needs some TLC, and it would be ok but I guess they just think putting locks on the cabinets is all the childproofing they need.

The whole situation makes me nervous. And it's because I think that Brian will be a distraction to Amy.  Not sure what he is in to - but he made a comment about just wanting to get something to help Amy.  I took it as he got her the pot to help with the stress and pain of the camel bite but that pot and mushrooms were in their vehicle before that happened. I think.

Eh, I am far too invested in this show.

I had a surgical consult in conjunction with being prescribed weight loss meds.  The argument they give for surgery is largely that the benefits are immediate. Many folks can leave the hospital *off* their diabetic medication.  Various cancer risks are also reduced immediately.  So in some cases it comes down to "you can fiddle around with the medication and lose as much weight as you manage to lose and stay on it for life, or you can have immediate results and benefits."

For someone like Brittany with uncontrolled diabetes, surgery could be truly lifesaving/extending.   On the other hand, Amy should absolutely be on a GLP.  It's now considered the backup for weight gain after surgery, and they begin it long before you've regained the amount she has.  Of course she may have contraindications to taking it or simply not be able to afford it at this time.

What does Brian do for work? I wonder if the house is his parents.  I ground pool homes are pricey, even green swampy ones.  They’ll definitely need a fence. A tall one. Those boys are climbers.

He was a nurse, but his license expired a few years ago.  He now supposedly writes sports for an online newspaper.  (I don't know how lucrative that could be.)  He's been married previously and has a couple of kids, so maybe he got the house in the divorce.

Not only was Chris a jerk for pushing Misty off the platform, he was even more of a jerk for talking about the worst-case court outcome over and over and over. This family claims to want to support Amy, but they've confronted and complained while making zero useful suggestions. Being mad at her because she didn't handle stress the way they wanted her to is not what a loving family does. I'd cry, too, if I had to depend on these people.

That said, while I understand Amy the horror lover's desire to get married in a haunted venue, I also understand why her family members don't want to attend. I think some of it is concern that Amy is making a mistake by marrying Brian, but I believe most of it genuinely does have to do with their own belief systems. Still, they were very judgmental. There was no need to act like this was the ickiest, most disgusting undertaking ever. Just say you're uncomfortable because of your beliefs and maybe do something nice, like offer to celebrate with them at another time.

I never thought I'd say this, but in this episode, Amanda was responsive, reasonable, and helpful. Hell has requested a shipment of ice melt.
