S07.E04: The Big Camel in the Room

(edited)

The episode begins with Amy's camel bite being infected, to the point of leaking green pus.  (How on earth did she not tend to this before it got to this point?) Brian says that the first antibiotic had apparently not worked, so they go to the ER and she is put on another antibiotic.  Amy describes the drugs in their vehicle as a small amount of weed, but

Spoiler

she doesn't mention the mushrooms.

She says she has a card for medical marijuana but the card doesn't transfer to another state.  If it's really medical marijuana, that would explain the situation, but

Spoiler

it wouldn't explain the mushrooms.

She says that jail was lonely and she had a mattress on the floor.  (Chris bailed her out for $10,000.)

There's a producer-driven scene with the pharmacist where she tells the pharmacist every detail of the camel bite.

Amy is not answering her phone because she doesn't want to talk about the camel bite or the arrest.  The family makes a plan to talk with Amy in the park about the seriousness of her situation.

Tammy's friend Steven from high school, who we met last week, comes to Tammy's for dinner along with his boyfriend and two friends.  Steven asks her to ride on their float in the Corn Festival parade.  The boyfriend later comments on Tammy's dry boiled chicken, saying he couldn't eat it.

The family meets at the park a week after the arrest to talk to Amy.  Amy is reluctant to come but finally shows up.  Amanda opens the discussion with, "I'm pretty sure that you already know that we need to have a discussion."  Amy stands up and says, "I'm done!"   They argue for a bit and Amy storms off.  Amanda gets mad and leaves.  Chris calls after Amy and tell her to come back.  She comes back for a minute, but then leaves again, repeating, "I'm done!"  She claims they were doing an intervention.  (I guess they were, but they just didn't call it that.)  Tammy decides to talk to Amy alone later.

The family goes to the Corn Festival and Chris tries working in a food truck, saying he'd like to have his own food truck.  Tammy enjoys riding on the rides as it's the first time she can fit in them.  Amy shows up at the parade wearing a ribbon that says, "Hot Mess," which the family frowns upon because it shows she's not taking her situation seriously.  Tammy and Amy talk, and Amy realizes she could have lost her kids.  During the parade, Tammy almost falls out of the float.  (The sides were much too low to have anyone standing up.  Tammy should have stayed sitting down.)  Tammy later briefs Chris on her talk with Amy.

Chris picks up Amy at Brian's house, which is a pretty nice brick home.  The episode ends with Chris driving Amy and Tammy to Amy's court appearance.

Medical Marijuana wasn't legal in Kentucky until 1 January 2025.  So not legal in Kentucky by Labor Day 2024 when she was arrested.   Still not legal in Tennessee, especially for out of state 'visitors' who were using it in the car with her kids.

What was her excuse when she looked so out of it on previous shows?

Brittany is diabetic I believe?  Or at least pre-diabetic?  She said something last week but I guess I don't pay very close attention.  I wonder why she isn't on Ozempic or Wegovy.  You'd think it'd solve both of her problems.  She also looks like a good weight for a weight loss drug as she's not morbidly obese.  It sounds like she's looking at surgery though.   It was nice to see her personality come through a bit this episode.

I had a thought while I was watching this episode.  Could Brian be a BBW loving guy?  Amy, bless her heart, is not as slim as she thinks she is and could possibly attract that kind of guy.  Nothing wrong with that as long as it's not harmful and it's great that Amy has a positive body image.  I just don't think she has the loose skin problem that Chris and Tammy have except in her arms.  I noticed how thin Brian is and that made me think of Tammy's skinny ex Jerry and I wondered if some thin guys like a bigger gal. Also, in the previews it looks like Amy puts on weight this season.   No judgement here.  It's just something that popped into my head.

I loved seeing Tammy having a social life.  Whether it's production driven or not it's great to see her out and about and interacting with others.  I hope we see more of Bart.  He's a hoot.

That poor pharmacist.  Why did Amy wear her Halloween costume to the pharmacy?

Regarding Amy not being as slim as she thinks she is, I do agree.   But then when they show flashbacks of where they started, you are reminded how far they have come.  All of them.

I also don't think that Amy is doing anything to try and lose more weight or shape up.   If she is happy how she is, that is her business.

Tammy looks like if she got rid of all that loose skin , she would be  absolutely tiny and petite.    Carrying  as much weight as she did for as long as she did, took it's toll on her but if she could get rid of that loose skin, she would be more mobile.  I think she looks like some weight training would be really good for her to build some muscle.

Someone has mentioned if Chris having a food truck was a good idea.  But he does love to cook and maybe being creative for others is a good outlet.  Remember the show Cheers -- Sam, the alcoholic , owned the bar.  lol

The thing with food though, is that you can't just quit.   We all have to eat.  I think though, when I think about Chris' collection of grills and smokers, that he has it in his blood and if he was cooking for his food truck he would  be able to enjoy these foods, without being faced with having so much of it for him and his family to eat.

I question every week why I watch this show. Then in doesn't take long for Amy to fart or talk about farting, and I question myself even more.     I can laugh at a fart joke but she grosses me out.   But I've watched it for this long,  I'm invested in them.  And there are some things I  hope they continue .   More on their quest for  loose skin removal and Brittany's  surgery.
