Haleth March 24 Share March 24 Excellent start. I was interested as to how they would characterize Mary. It may change but this Mary is quite demur and contrite. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152322-s2e01-wreckage/#findComment-8615329
DanaK March 24 Share March 24 Given everything they had to cut to afford to make it, it looked pretty good and I could actually see things during the night scenes. Poor Mary but at the same time, it’s hazardous to go against your dad the King 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152322-s2e01-wreckage/#findComment-8615402

I don't know, that pomegranate was a bold choice. Methinks Mary might be playing long game. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152322-s2e01-wreckage/#findComment-8615827
Driad March 24 Share March 24 Our PBS station aired "Lucy Worsley Investigates: Bloody Mary" just before this episode, so I was well briefed on Mary. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152322-s2e01-wreckage/#findComment-8615851

CeeBeeGee March 25 Share March 25 Her heartfelt tears with Cromwell and that embrace with Henry--Henry loved his children (as long as they toed the line) and until the split started emerging between Henry and Catherine, Henry was a very loving, indulgent father who was very proud of Mary. I'm not crazy about the fairly recent Marian revisionism I see (burning to death hundreds of people for their religious principles is absolutely cruel, no matter how many people want to say "well, this person killed more!" Burning is one of the cruelest ways to kill people--I'd much rather be beheaded) but it can't be denied that Henry did a number on Mary. I can't imagine experiencing her incredibly privileged childhood--she was the acknowledged Princess of Wales, the heiress apparent at one point--and then processing the betrayal she experienced during her teens. He didn't even allow her to see Catherine when she was dying. Loved Mary's talking about her (full) brothers and sisters--she had a bunch of them, she was the only one who survived. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152322-s2e01-wreckage/#findComment-8616361

Damian really does make a believable Henry. Damien Lewis is the best Henry we've seen in a long time. He has the perfect bit of sinister right below the surface all the time, even when he's in a good mood. And, he actually looks more like Henry than so many others. Mark Rylance is absolutely amazing. He really shows the dangerous world Cromwell lived in with just his face. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152322-s2e01-wreckage/#findComment-8622116
